Zambia’s Psychedelic Zamrock Is Having a Second Life

"The Zamrock Museum, a project by Modzi Arts in Ibex Hill, serves as a living museum to celebrate Zamrock music. It features a library of books on Zambian and African music, a record booth with Zamrock records, and memorabilia. It also hosts residences and concerts with mentors like Jagari Chanda and Rikki Ililonga."

Good place to start with when you visit Zambia and want to know of its political, social, and cultural history and evolution. Had a good guide who took us through the exhibitions and explains to us the stories behind it. Great setup and would definitely visit again.

This past weekend, I finally took some time to visit the Lusaka National Museum, and I’m so glad I did. Walking through its galleries felt like stepping into a time capsule of Zambia’s rich history and vibrant culture. From the fascinating archaeological displays and ethnographic exhibits to the contemporary art section showcasing local creativity, the museum offers a beautiful blend of the past and present. I especially loved how the exhibits tell stories not just of artifacts, but of the people, traditions, and resilience that shape Zambia. It’s not a huge museum, but it’s thoughtfully curated and easy to explore without feeling rushed. The staff were friendly and helpful, making the experience even more welcoming. If you’re in Lusaka, I definitely recommend stopping by whether you’re a tourist or a local looking to reconnect with our heritage. It’s a quiet yet enriching way to spend an afternoon.

Visitors can explore artworks, sculptures, and artifacts depicting Zambia’s journey from ancient times to independence. The museum highlights traditional Zambian life and figures like Kenneth Kaunda. Located in the Government Complex, it offers a well-curated experience with informative displays and a photo exhibition. A must-visit for history enthusiasts.

Just woow. This place was absolutely spectacular 👌. A must visit. It's for all the history junkies and art enthusiasts. It was such a knowledge rich place absolutely beautiful 😍. I would definitely recommend. You will definitely learn a lot. From the history of humans to Zambia fight for freedom to how Zambia grew and flourished as well as about its culture and not forgetting all the wonderful leaders that have ruled over the country and brought it where it is today.

The museum may be small, but it offers a powerful look at Zambia's captivating history from prehistory to nowadays. You'll learn about the struggles and triumphs of its people, the (negative) impact of colonialism, and the nation's journey to independence and beyond. The exhibits highlight the resilience and pride of Zambians, echoing the national motto: One Zambia, one nation! A truly worthwhile experience.

Interesting museum. I was expecting more arts exhibited, however the museum has some interesting historical artefacts and photographs on display. It was nice to learn more about Zambia and the development of democracy in this country.

I like it. The art work on the first floor showcases some great artists and photographers. The History lesson on the second floor was worth it. It is disappointing that you cannot take pictures. It would help get more people to visit.
