A Local’s Guide to Armenia

"You can also head to the former home of painter and ethnographer Lusik Aguletsi, who was the last Armenian to regularly walk the streets of Yerevan in her traditional Armenian dress. I knew her in person and had the chance to photograph her works; now I visit her house, which has been transformed into a museum. With all its decorations and costumes, it feels more like a national gallery. Here you’ll also find the cozy Art Café, which serves tasty regional food."

We had a great visit at the Aguletsi Museum. We took a tour with Tatev & she was a wonderful guide & explained everything in full detail about the story of Lusik Aguletsi & her family. Afterwards we had coffee & their famous Gata in the outdoor cafe which was very cozy. This place is a great gem.

This cafe does deserve the high rating it has. It is a very unique type of cafe and the way it has been decorated is quite amazing. Many antique items and good music is played in there as well. Additionally, the staff were very helpful and nice. We ordered different items and they were all delicious . This place is a bit outside of the town so if you aren’t going to get a taxi it will be a long walk from the centre of town.

Visiting this site is an excellent way to spend your time in Yerevan. The cafe has also amazing food, specially the Ajarakan khachapuri!

I took a taxi to get this museum-cafe, and I was upset because I had a problem with the taxi driver (taxi scam). However, all my anger disappeared the moment I stepped in here. Such a beautiful house!!! The house built next to a tall murberry tree was so beautiful in every corner. Staffs spoke good English helped me with the menu. The food was also great (the best sorrel soup I've ever had in Yerevan). It's a place that combines a museum and a cafe. There's not much to see in the museum, but if you pay 2500 local currency, you can look into every corner of this beautiful house. I want to go back in early summer. They said the end of May to the beginning of June is the season of mulberries. Can't wait to go back!!

We have come here on two occasions. First time was pleasant, we felt welcomed and well treated. However, the second time we came in I can not say the same. I am a guest here from America where we have baby changing stations in 99% of establishments. From day one in Armenia I have been mocked for asking if a restaurant has a baby changing station and been encouraged to change my daughter’s diaper at the table. The one time I didn’t ask for a baby changing station I was scolded and made feel so horrible about my choices. After being scolded I apologized and started packing up as soon as I could. While packing another lady came to me and was looking at me so harshly I honestly didn’t know how else to apologize. I grabbed my things as fast as I could. On my way to my husband, the chef who taught us the classes stops me and tells me its going to be better for us if we could pack our food to go so its easier to feed our daughter outside. I have never in my life been so embarrassed, and ashamed and on top of it getting kicked out of a place, where honestly I couldn’t not bare to be at another minute. I felt so uncomfortable and unwanted after paying, and being as polite as I could possibly be even after I made a mistake. Shame on anyone to make anyone feel this way.

Incredible house museum with a gallery and an art café! It’s a must-do in Yerevan. An incredibly nice woman at reception accompanied my visit and explained some things even though I didn’t take a guided tour ❤️. The art café workers were also super nice 💘. And the place is just so beautiful and important. Just a slight issue: another guide was really unhappy that I was in the same room visiting the museum while she was guiding. I understand that it's her work, and she should be paid for it. But it’s not a reason to be mean and tell me to go away when I was in the room first and she arrived with her clients while I was also visiting with a paid ticket. If you want your content to be exclusive, close the museum for the guided tour and then let visitors without a tour walk freely in the museum without feeling guilty, like they’re bothering someone, or like they’re "stealing knowledge for free." Anyways, I will come back again. The museum is museuming ✨✨✨✨✨🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶

Beautiful, authentic museum and delicious restaurant. Calming ambience. A great way to travel back in time! The doll and puppet collection is exquisite. The jewelry and clothing on display is beautiful. Highly recommended.
