The four of us usually dine at St Albans Ivy so for a change we booked into Lussmanns for lunch to compare. Afteral it's only round the corner. We were shown to a round table in the middle, sort of under the stairs. It's was ok but did not feel "cosy". Ok we chose a Starter each and and mains from the Winter menu. We could not work out what was available on the "Meal Deal Locals Menu 2-course £20.95" that was so confusing. We selected a "Terre D'Or Sav Blanc" wine at £28.50 + 12.5% Service The Prawn Cocktail was nicely presented and tasty, other Starters were well received except the Parsnip Soup arrived Cold!! Only discovered after delivery and had to be sent back to the kitchen. It returned so hot as to be silly! Ruined really but was consumed once it cooled down. Later the Mains were served. The Shepherds Pie was delicious but delivered so so hot it was a safety hazard! The Coq au Vin was commented on as excellent. One had the Woodland Pork Collar which looked and tasted lovely. (To our surprise this dish turned out to be in the Locals menu.) No veg with Mains so we added. Roasted Root Veg & a Creamed Mash. Unbelievably the Root Veg was served up Cold!! It had to be taken back to the Kitchen by us and reported we had been served cold food TWICE now! After 1.5 hours we decided to pay and depart. We declined a "Pudding" and Coffee as we had run out of time. The deduction of £13.00 for the Cold Soup & Cold Veg was appreciated but we added Service back. The Manager was so nice we felt that was only fair.

Had a wonderful dining experience at Lussmanns! We were drawn in by their strong sustainability ethos, and they definitely delivered — both in values and in flavour. We ordered fish dishes, which were cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was relaxed yet refined, and we especially want to mention Ema, who was warm, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. A great place to enjoy responsibly sourced food without compromising on quality or service. Highly recommended!

My friend & I came for dinner last weekend on Saturday. We were very lucky to get a last minute booking. Our table was ready when we arrived. The food was Amazing! We had 3 courses with wine & beer. All the food was Amazing! The Steak was one of the best steaks I've ever had, and the sauce over it was Amazing! I had the Seasonal dessert which was the Plum cheesecake, OMG it was like Heaven! And an excellent recommendation from Saba. Our Waitress Saba was very welcoming & very knowledgeable about the food. She was so lovely & always there when we needed her with a beautiful smile on her face. I would say she's the nicest Waitress I've ever met. It was an absolute pleasure to be served by her 😃. I've been to this restaurant quite a few times over the years, and I always have an Amazing meal & experience. Thank you to the whole Team at Lussmans in St Albans. Thanks, Heather. x

We had a lovely Saturday lunch here last weekend. We opted for the set menu, which was amazing value. The food was lovely and the service friendly and unobtrusive in the best possible way. Highly recommended

Lussmans Hitchin was fantastic! I attended with a large party of 8 for a celebration; from the reservations team (via email) to the waitresses and waiters, I could not fault the excellent service. They were particularly attentive which was especially impressive given we were a large party, also notably friendly and welcoming. The food was lovely - not overly fancy, just real, hearty, good food. So tasty and a great variety of options! 10/10 experience for both food and service!

We booked dinner, returning after leaving St Albans some six years ago. The food was excellent, fresh, well presented with warm plates. A few issues with service however. The white wine ordered was not to temperature, cool rather than chilled. No sooner had the first course been cleared, and we were presented with the main course (there was no break). We ordered two ports which arrived a good ten minutes after cheese was served. The waitress was polite but flighty, and seemed to be preoccupied with polishing glasses rather than being attentive. Overall, a somewhat disappointing dining experience with no inter action with the 'manager' in a rather dull restaurant, which was very quiet for a Friday night. We paid the service charge reluctantly, but under the old tipping system I would have refused. The bill came to £200 plus , which did not represent good value for money. Sorry Andrei, but I hope the feedback helps.
