The Lutheran Guest House offers a relatively inexpensive place to stay in a city that is very expensive. It is easy to find from Jaffa Gate. The rooms are small but adequate, the building and surrounds are quiet. Breakfast is included and is plentiful and excellent (and the cooks are very cheerful and friendly). The Guest House is IN the Old City; a minute or two walk away are the colourful markets, and further on a variety of Christian sites such as the Church of the Redeemer and on to the Holy Sepulchre. It is close to the Christian Information Centre. BUT of course it is not just for Christians: it is a good place to stay for any visitor on a budget. My only complaint: when I booked (by phone) I was told a price. When I arrived I was told a different prices, but the difference was tiny so I didn't bother. However, when I checked out the next morning, I was told yet another price, MUCH higher than I had been told. The receptionist was very argumentative. She eventually charged me the second (middle) price I was quoted, but was very rude in accepting my payment and did not even lift her head or acknowledge me at all when I thanked her and said goodbye. So that was pretty bad.

Excellent tasting and visually appealing food! Clean accommodations and attentive staff. Beautiful grounds and landscaping. Perfect if you want to stay in Old Jerusalem. Walking distance from local attractions in the Old City.

Mine is a review of when this was both guest house and youth hostel. In July of 1978 I stayed here while I was working in archeology. They had a two week limit at the hostel but were kind enough to allow me to stay the full month. It was a wonderful safe place to stay perfectly located being in the heart of the Christian Quarter. If I ever go back to Jerusalem I will stay here! If you stay here you wont regret it.

we spend 4 nights at the Lutheran Guest house with our 4 kids. ||The location is amazing and the view from the rooms is great.||Its not a luxury place, it is simple and this is what we were expecting from such place.||Close to Jaffa Gate, you wont carry your suitcase too long and this is also a very good point. ||Rooms are perfectly clean and tidy, the bathroom were recently renovated, basic and easy. The breakfast is generous and of good quality.||We had a temperature issue on the first night but the lady at the reception desk managed to solve the issue promptly.||it was a bit cold to try the bar in the garden, but with warme weather, we would have enjoyed it for sure !

We had an excellent room with a beautiful view of the old city. The room was rather small, but well equipped with a good bed. ||||The breakfast was excellent, self service in a nice well lighted room. There was a good choice of food with excellent cheese, juice and fresh fruit. Also the coffee was fine.||||All in all a good stay for a reasonable price.||||We will come back here next time we visit Jerusalem.

My husband and I stayed for two nights at the Lutheran Guest House and this gave us the perfect place to explore the old city, especially convenient in the early morning and late evening hours and during those hot hours in the middle of August days. Our room as well as the gardens have a nice view of the Dome of the Rock and the Mt. of Olives. There is also a rooftop terrace from which to view landmarks to the NW and SW such as the domes/towers of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. The breakfast included in the room rate is very nice and substantial. We highly recommend staying at this guesthouse.

We stayed here for 4 nights. It used to be a church and it is beautiful.||My room was a garden room, so apart from the main building. Be warned that the hotel WiFi does not reach that far!||It was close to Jaffa Gate and plenty of shopping. There is a great view from the hotel garden area of the Dome on the Rock.||The breakfast buffet offered was good.

On June 6, 2022 I stayed with a group of my students for several days. The stay was good and the hotel is nice. But, when I checked out, they charged my credit card 61,000 NIS (about $18,000 USD) instead of the 6,100 NIS that was the actual bill. I realized this later that day when I checked my credit card online. I called the hotel and they apologized and said they would fix it immediately - it was a simple clerical mistake. Two months later there was no fix, and so I disputed it with my credit card. Three months later they finally gave me a refund, but it was still overcharged by over $300 USD. Maybe they used an exchange rate for today instead of back in June when the charge occurred. I don't know. But it has been a horrible nightmare trying to get this sorted out, and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and will never stay there again. There are enough good hotels in the Old City that one doesn't have to put up with this sort of nonsense. This is profoundly unprofessional and incompetent behavior.
