The Best Hotels in Lisbon, From Bairro Alto to Chiado

"For the local experience In up-and-coming Cais do Sodré, once the red-light district and now filling up with hip bars and clubs, this is ideally located for those who want to be amidst Lisbon’s buzzing atmosphere. The 18th-century powder-blue building has five themed floors highlighting different aspects of the capital: guitars cover the walls on the fado floor, books line the shelves on the floor named after the poet Fernando Pessoa, and so on. The 61 rooms are functional but fun, with iPod docks, clothes rails (no cupboards), and showers (but no baths). The hotel’s restaurant Confraria, a branch of the famous restaurant in nearby Cascais, serves up a superb selection of sushi and sashimi, temaki and nigiri; the house assortment of 30 bite-size dishes is culinary gold. Address: LX Boutique Hotel, Rua do Alecrim, 12, Lisbon, Portugal Price: Doubles from $82" - Abigail Malbon

Great location near the river. Very polite staff who speak English, among other languages. The room (401) was a nice large room and very clean that overlooked the street. There was a little hallway noise but good sound proofing from outside. |The hotel is an easy walk to the Time Out food market, about 4 blocks. Lots of other restaurants and bars near by. Good public transportation access near by. Easy walk to Praca de Comercio and Rua Augusta and beyond. Pretty easy to get around to other sites.

Exceptional hotel, extremely clean and wonderful decor. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Only a one night stay between transit flights but I would definitely stay here again if visiting Lisbon. There are lots of things to do in the surrounding area and plenty of quality restaurants.

This hotel will forever be in my heart. On the day of the blackout in Portugal, we checked out. Our flight was cancelled and we needed somewhere to stay. The staff took us in and gave us priority as we were guests that already stayed. Everyone was trying to book but the hotel stayed loyal to it's existing customers. They provided exceptional support during the unprecedented event that took place. They didn't overcharge us or take advantage of the situation. A very honest hotel. Even before the blackout, our stay was exceptional. Amazing location, great minibar selection and the rooms were lovely. Unique décor and the bed was very comfortable. All hotel staff were very welcoming and a special thanks to Ana for checking us in. She was truly lovely! Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking to visit Lisbon.

I had a great experience at the hotel. It was nice inside and the room was spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable and a good size. The place is well-located; near to the train station and close to the Bairro Alto. The staff were nice and the pasteis de nata in the reception was a nice touch!

Best location in the center of old town and on the river bank, as such, great view of being facing the beautiful river, excellent morning walk along the river bank (effectively next to the river bank), convenient to public transports (neibourghing a major public transport hub including train/tram/bus) and lots of shops/restaurants/bars etc. Great service and very friendly and helpful staff, in particularly Tiago, who is excellent and very attentive to us. The room is very clean and have all required amenities, we asked for a kettle, and they straightaway provided. When we inquired if we could have a larger room, they upgraded our room for free as soon as it was available. Their breakfast is very good, very fresh, but only cost $16. I highly recommend this hotel, which is definitely well worth the value. Thank you LX Boutique Hotel, we had a good experience in Lisbon!

I stayed at LX Boutique Hotel for a short city break and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the amenities. The shower in my room was excellent, with strong water pressure and complimentary toiletries that felt a step above the usual hotel basics. The room itself was well-appointed, featuring air conditioning, a minibar, and free Wi-Fi, which made for a comfortable and convenient stay. One thing to note is the hotel’s location, right in the heart of Lisbon’s lively entertainment district. There are plenty of restaurants and pubs just outside, which is great if you want to explore the local nightlife, but it does mean there can be quite a bit of street noise, especially in the evenings. My room faced the road, and while the windows helped block some of the sound, the music and crowds from the bars below were still noticeable. However, the hotel was thoughtful enough to provide ear plugs in the room, which was a courteous touch and helped me get a good night’s sleep. If you’re sensitive to noise, I recommend requesting a room away from the main street when you book. The staff are friendly and accommodating, and the quieter rooms make a big difference for light sleepers. Overall, LX Boutique Hotel is a stylish and comfortable base for exploring Lisbon, especially if you want to be close to the action, but it’s worth planning ahead to ensure a restful stay.

Cute spot, excellent location for walking to main sites, drinks, and food in the city... but I would not stay here again until they've sorted out their relationship with the bar below the hotel. Loud base that reverberates through your earplugs and into your chest all night long. This experience occurred on both a Saturday night and Sunday night, and the staff, though empathetic, could not resolve the issue, nor were we offered any alternative options or solutions through the experience. We understand it is out of their control, but we also feel like there should be some upfront warning regarding the base and noise issues, because it continues well beyond what any reasonable person would assume.. 4am was the earliest it stopped.

Overall this is an excellent place to stay in the heart of downtown Lisbon. The only downside and I dinged a star on location is the noise at night - there was a club or something making noise well past midnight and it was obtrusive even with windows locked up tight. The hotel even provides ear plugs so they really can't do much, it was just a bit frustrating when I was tired and kept hearing and more feeling the best of the music. Room was excellent, bathroom very modern. Staff was friendly at check in .

Yelp
First time going to Lisbon and after a ton of poking around, I ended up going with Lx Boutique Hotel, which ended up being a solid stay due to the location, the room, and the service. As you'll see below, your mileage may vary depending on where you are expecting to go to and what you consider noisy, but I think it's a great stay. Pros: +Check-in was super smooth / friendly. The elevator was never overly crowded or took too long to get to. +There was nata and port wine available every afternoon in the lobby. Loved it. +I personally love the design of the room. Loved the art style and the design. The restroom in particular was cool / super modern and had a nice contrast against the more classic style of the hotel. The bed too was comfy and all the amenities were there from locks to hangers. Yes, water is like 2.5 euros but for the huge bottle, that's not bad at all to me. +I personally love where this is located at. It's a quick walk to the Tagus and a lot of the coastal sights, restaurants and not too far from other metros. Also easy to hail a taxi. Also, if you like to party/go to Pink Street, its so close and easy to get to. Pro/Con: +/- Noise-wise, I was placed in a room on the 2nd floor near the alleyway. I heard a tiny bit of noise from the busy Pink Street area below, so it wasn't that bad. Would just check in with the lobby to see if you can be placed higher if you think the noise is going to be an issue. Also, if you're not going to be going to Pink Street at all, you may run into both drunken party patrons or the 'drug dealers' accidentally as you try to get elsewhere. Wasn't a big deal and can just ignore them, but just as a FYI. +/- The rooms have a slightly weird card system in which you have to keep your card near the key reader in order to open. The trick (as someone in the lobby taught me) was just to press up the higher part of the card against the reader and hold it there. Cons: -There was only one plug that I could find in the room, so if you need a few items that need charging, you will just have to make sure to change things out. -Super small desk. So if you need to work or want to read/write at a desk, it'll be a bit tough. Love that it was so close to Time Out Market and the metro/train station to some of the other cities. Would def. go back!

Yelp
We stayed 2 nights in August, 2022. We usually stay up the hill in Bairro Alto but decided to give this charming hotel a try. The location is perfect - quick access to Cais do Sodre and Baixa-Chiado stations. The bed and room were both comfortable. Unfortunately our "Classic" room's view had of the backside of another building but we did appreciate the balcony. Breakfast was not included in our rate. Coffee is not available in the rooms or lobby in the early morning and the breakfast seemed to have a late start. Thankfully, there's a pastelaria across the street on the corner. The bathroom was very sleek and modern, but the entire wall and floor (including inside the step-in shower) is covered in some strange fabric. I cannot imagine what the actual floor beneath that fabric in the shower looks like in regard to hair and soap residue. The shower had a traditional European wand option and a ceiling-mounted head, not making it convenient for women who don't want to get their hair wet to shower.

Yelp
Great location for touring in Lisbon's main seaside area. Close to trolley 28 and a special treat - Pink Street!!! Efficient staff, nice, quiet modern room. Elevator. Fair price. Staff arranged airport transfer at 2:30 AM. Definitely would stay there again.

Yelp
Charming hotel in the heart of Cais do Sodre district in Lisbon. Beautiful spacious and contemporary rooms, modern mid-century design, and upgraded space-capsule like bathrooms. Front desks and service personnel were accommodating and hospitable. Would definitely stay here again and highly recommended.

Yelp
Conveniently located just south of Bairro Alto and almost on the water. This hotel had really everything you could ask for. It was affordable what you get, the service was impeccable, the rooms were clean, comfortable, spacious, eclectic and unique. We loved our stay here for 3 nights and would highly recommend it. We had the corner room facing the pink street with a wrap around balcony that was really cute - just beware, it's definitely loud at night if you get "city views" rooms only because you are literally right next to the "Pink Street". As an added bonus, they have a free glass of port and pastries in the afternoons. Will definitely be back if we are ever in Lisbon again!

Yelp
This is a boutique hotel located in the best area of Lisbon. Here you are between Praça do Comércio, Sodré, Chiado and Bairro Alto... So, it couldn't get any better. The reception staff are absolutely the best, they are very friendly and smiley ...lol Today is my friend's birthday and I never told them, but when u check in they ask for your passport and they probably saw the date if her bday, so they sent her a lovely letter whishing her all the best and they also gave her a little bag of chocolates, very nice touch. Our room are very clean and quiet... We stayed on Fernando' s Pessoa floor, who is an extremely important Portuguese writer and poet, and in the past he used to come over to this building to write. So, 5 stars all the way ;)

Yelp
Pros: location, design, price, free dessert and wine. Cons: location (it's very very very loud right below the building due to all the bars. Meaning that you have to keep the windows closed), overpriced breakfast, staff (we left a gold watch in the room and when we called 30 mins after checking out, they couldn't find it. 100% sure it was left in the room).

Yelp
A very nice hotel with clean rooms, excellent location and very attentive staff. Room was on the 3rd floor and very large. Outside becomes loud around 10:30 as it is party central, but after a day of walking Lisbon's beautiful streets you'll have no problem sleeping. I'd definitely stay here again. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Couldn't ask for a better location, it's a quick walk to Mercado Da Ribeira, directly above pink street(if that's your thing), right across the street from Pensão Amor(super cool bar), and a very short stroll to Cais do Sodré station in case you want to head to the beach @ Cascais or Belém.
