12 Best Beaches on Kauai

"Situated at the mouth of the Wailua River on the island’s east side, this family-friendly spot features multiple sheltered shallow pools ideal for children and snorkelers, plus a 2.5-mile paved path popular for walking and cycling. Cultural attractions like Smith's Garden Luau and Wailua River cruises to the Fern Grotto are only a short drive away." - Vanessa Wilkins Vanessa Wilkins Vanessa Wilkins is a travel and lifestyle writer with an extensive background in digital journalism. Beautiful beach with washroom facilities, parking, playground, protected waters for swimming and snorkelling. The shallow waters and protected area is great for families. The sand area is a good depth for keeping an eye on kids in the water. There is a covered areas for group gatherings and facilities for some food organizing. Feels very safe and family oriented. We didn’t plan to stay today but will definitely come back!

A beautiful big beach, the big part has big waves but a small part is protected by rocks. You can swim and snorkel there beautifully. You can see lots of small fish in the water. The parking lot is large, there is no problem to park.

Wonderful! My 1 year old baby brother loves the playground. In the ocean there are different areas blocked off by rocks for less rough water. I’ve heard that you can go snorkeling, but I haven’t-yet.

great beach. lots of parking. Easy to find off main road. Great snorkeling area for beginners (even saw a Barracuda). Lots of wood had washed up when we were there and it was cleaned up in a couple of days. showers are accessible. Only 4 stars because bathrooms are not great, but at least are available. Saw 3 whales off in the distance. Nice grassy area to sit and watch if you aren't a sand-lover. Great park right across the parking area for kids to play in. Very clean beach and has a lifeguards as well.

Smaller, but nice beach. The cove has a sandy bottom. Great for swimming and wading. Okay for snorkeling. Beautiful view. Public restrooms. Will go back again.

Not as scenic as some of the other beaches on the island but the area has an abundance of picnic tables and available restrooms. Towards the end or left side there is a rocked off area for kids to play without having to worry about strong waves or currents. There’s also a rocked off larger area for this purpose. Please don’t use full face snorkel masks which can impede breathing and could potentially result in CO2 poisoning.

This is a Kauai must for family with young kids. The beach has two "pools" segregated by lava rocks from the ocean. Yes, they are connected to the ocean as fish swim in and out following the tides. The colorful variety is unbelievable for a snorkel at a beach so close ashore. The pond appears to be governed by a dozen BIG blue fish. How big? The length of my forearm! lol... They come out to patrol the ponds from time to time, often break into team of 7 and 5 per my observation. They love hearing the Wows from kids, and I could feel them laughing, hahaha. I was so curious where they reside, and followed them all the way to the lava rocks. Apparently, they live outside of the rock rings and only come in several times a day to "patrol". Some locals use the beach as a therapeutic place. Some of them come early in the morning, when the water is peaceful like mirror, finish their laps of the day, then go about their businesses. On the weekend, there's a volunteer who teaches water aerobic. So fun to join and splash for one or two hours. This is a beach where nature and human live in harmony and love, hence I say it's a must visit if you ever come to Kauai.
