Lydgate House Hotel and Cottage, Dartmoor

We felt at home as soon as we arrived. The rooms were just what we needed. It's such a great location within the moor (mind the animals wandering around). Very central for travelling around. Kelly, Sarah and John were so welcoming and helpful - giving us bits of advice for our day trips out. The breakfasts really set you up for day. We chose to have dinner there twice and the meals were excellent - lots of choice. All in all, we had a really great stay.

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary and we’re so pleased we chose to stay at Lydgate. We don’t live far away but the beautiful surroundings made us feel like we were a million miles away from the normal stress of life. ||The relaxing and laid back nature of the house and the way the wonderful staff run it make it feel like a home from home. Yet they also manage to make it feel like a luxurious break away where no request is too much or too troublesome. It’s a real skill. ||We loved the surroundings and our huge room with wonderful views. Due to the size of our room it was difficult to keep it really warm (although it may have felt cooler after sitting in the lounge by the amazing wood burner), but we loved the fact the staff were clearly aware it could feel a bit cooler and provided hot water bottles. All the little touches throughout the house were fantastic.||And the food! It was absolutely outstanding. A varied menu and all cooked to perfection! We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend a stay here. We look forward to coming back later in the year, especially when it’s warm enough for a dip in the river.

Lydgate House is the best place to relax and to enjoy walks on the Moor. It is very beautiful, idyllic and peaceful. The hosts are amazing, so is the food, which is carefully cooked, using fine ingredients. We have been several times to this hotel, and each time is a treat. Looking forward to the next trip.

This was our third year running at Lydgate Cottage and we are already booked for next year. Of all the places we have stayed on Dartmoor this is the only one to which we have returned. The staff are so friendly and helpful . The kitchen has all the utensils you need including recipe book (very useful). It is like home from home, so comfortable.

How could you find fault or ever want to with Lydgate House Hotel, when John, Sarah and Kelly do everything possible to make your stay so enjoyable and memorable.|It was, without doubt, one of the most tranquil and peaceful short breaks we have ever had and we cannot wait to visit again. |For us it was all that we could have hoped for in every respect, truly delightful.

Very nice setup and most friendly. This is a small, cosy, family run hotel. The food was faultless. The room we had was nothing exceptional but you don't go to Dartmoor to stay in a room.

We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at Lydgate House Cottage. With walks and cycle routes direct from the door, it was ideally positioned for us and our son. The cottage was cosy and very well equipped, although anyone over 6ft would find the upstairs bedroom/bathroom a bit of a challenge, but this is mentioned in the description of the property. Despite its position in the middle of Dartmoor, local towns and villages are easily reached by car (or on foot!). John, Sarah and Kelly were most welcoming. We hope to visit again soon.

Lydgate house is a beautiful property situated in the heart of Dartmoor. It is the perfect place to unwind which has direct access to various walks on the Moor. The rooms are very clean and stylish. The breakfasts are delicious, freshly cooked with high quality ingredients, served in the conservatory which has stunning views. The dinners are also delicious and healthy. The hosts Sarah, John and Kelly are all very friendly and attentive, and cater for any diet requirements. This was our 4th time here, and won't be the last, as each visit is a very special treat. Thank you all for spoiling us, and we look forward to seeing you all again.
