I stayed for 4 nights with John, Sarah & Kelly. I could not have picked a nicer place to stay. They are all so welcoming and friendly. Breakfasts and evening meals are great and its certainly a very relaxing place to lay your head. Rooms are lovely and immaculately clean. I cannot find fault and I cannot wait to return in the future. John, Sarah, Kelly, thank you for making my stay so memorable. Grant x

A warm and personal greeting on arrival set the scene for a wonderful stay at Lydgate Hotel. Kelly, Sarah and John are all very approachable and will do everything that they can to enhance your stay. The Hotel is ideally situated for walks on the moors, or short drives to other central Dartmoor areas. The room we had was a double-aspect corner room, giving lovely views of the surrounding areas. The cooked breakfasts were varied and expertly prepared, using local ingredients as well as home-made honey, marmalade and jams, although the fruit selection was tinned produce, perhaps some fresh fruit would have been nice as well. The nod to local ingredients continued to the meals provided for the evenings as well. Again, thoughtfully prepared and accompanied with a small, but excellent choice of wines. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, and it was interseting chatting to any of our hosts about life on the moors, the history of, and how they have developed, the hotel. All best wishes to the three of them for their future aspirations.

I spent 4 nights at Lydgate House at the end of August. It cost quite a lot more than I wanted to pay, but was worth it for the convenience to everywhere I wanted to visit, and for the quality of the accommodation. I had stayed there before on several occasions, but it has now changed ownership. It is in a league above most other accommodation available nearby - a small, extremely comfortable, quiet hotel with a country house feel. I was in the smallest room (Wren), but it had everything I needed; clean, cosy and well-equipped. Nothing is too much trouble for the hosts - they are friendly and keen to help. The food is excellent and includes homemade hash browns for breakfast!

Great friendly staff, who ensured all needs met, including on our wedding anniversary. The grounds provided beautiful views from the outside seating area, dining hall and bedrooms.|We did not use the lounge area but it well presented- along with their own bar!|The dogs, cats and horses topped it off. Breakfast had a number of options including cold and also cooked- all good. We ate in and the locally sourced food went down well after a day on the moor.

This was our second briefer visit to Lydgate Cottage. We returned because we enjoyed our Spring visit owing to the friendly reception , general setting and comfort of the cottage. We found the combination of the cottage and option to eat in the hotel very appealing.|It is an ideal retreat for people looking for tranquility, nature and well cooked carefully sourced food. It is central to Dartmoor so good for touring.(The upstairs bedroom has limited headroom.)|Recommended!

This is a small, family-run hotel in the heart of Dartmoor. Situated next to a small river in a valley, the hotel is perfect to relax. There are lots of hiking trails nearby. The breakfast is delicious, they have homemade marmalade and everything is freshly cooked. We enjoyed our time at your hotel, thank you!

We felt at home as soon as we arrived. The rooms were just what we needed. It's such a great location within the moor (mind the animals wandering around). Very central for travelling around. Kelly, Sarah and John were so welcoming and helpful - giving us bits of advice for our day trips out. The breakfasts really set you up for day. We chose to have dinner there twice and the meals were excellent - lots of choice. All in all, we had a really great stay.

Initially my impressions of this hotel were very positive, but in staying there I encountered some serious issues. I notified the hotel of these issues in my feedback but have had no reply. 1. Two walls of my £200 per night room (Buzzard) were damp with lose wallpaper, due I think to damp penetration from an abutting lean to roof and also a conservatory. 2. Partly due to the damp, the room was always cold. The heating barely operated and did not heat the room effectively in early September. 3. The coldness of the room exacerbated the damp walls and meant I had to sleep with two hot water bottles to keep warm. 4. When I complained about the cold there was no constructive response. I was just told the heating operates from 6 to 9. I heard two other guests complain of the cold in their cottage. 5. For £200 per night my room was very poor value for a damp cold room. 6. I also thought the £35 two-course dinners were over-priced for what they were. 7. There was no power point alongside the bed. The one available socket was across the room and one had to disconnect the TV or kettle to use it. 8. My room had a Netflix control but no Netflix service: it was not connected. 9. Breakfast was excellent but served only from 8 to 9am. The staff were friendly and welcoming but overall was very disappointed with the hotel.
