Lydgate House Hotel and Cottage, Dartmoor

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary and we’re so pleased we chose to stay at Lydgate. We don’t live far away but the beautiful surroundings made us feel like we were a million miles away from the normal stress of life. The relaxing and laid back nature of the house and the way the wonderful staff run it make it feel like a home from home. Yet they also manage to make it feel like a luxurious break away where no request is too much or too troublesome. It’s a real skill. We loved the surroundings and our huge room with wonderful views. Due to the size of our room it was difficult to keep it really warm (although it may have felt cooler after sitting in the lounge by the amazing wood burner), but we loved the fact the staff were clearly aware it could feel a bit cooler and provided hot water bottles. All the little touches throughout the house were fantastic. And the food! It was absolutely outstanding. A varied menu and all cooked to perfection! We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend a stay here. We look forward to coming back later in the year, especially when it’s warm enough for a dip in the river.

We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at Lydgate House Cottage. With walks and cycle routes direct from the door, it was ideally positioned for us and our son. The cottage was cosy and very well equipped, although anyone over 6ft would find the upstairs bedroom/bathroom a bit of a challenge, but this is mentioned in the description of the property. Despite its position in the middle of Dartmoor, local towns and villages are easily reached by car (or on foot!). John, Sarah and Kelly were most welcoming. We hope to visit again soon.

Very nice setup and most friendly. This is a small, cosy, family run hotel. The food was faultless. The room we had was nothing exceptional but you don't go to Dartmoor to stay in a room.

Just back from a week in the beautiful Lydgate cottage which is attached to the hotel, set in a stunningly beautiful and very peaceful location. The cottage is lovely and has everything you need and John, Sarah and Kelly are very friendly, helpful and around if you need them, without being intrusive. You can order from the hotel's menu and have dinner delivered to the cottage, which was a real treat! There's also a pub a short walk away and lots of walks that our two dogs loved. The perfect base for exploring Dartmoor and further afield there's loads to do within 45 minutes to an hour's drive. Highly recommend!

Beautiful location with stunning views. The whole place was very clean. Breakfast was excellent and leisurely. John, Sarah and Kelly were extremely friendly and welcoming. We can highly recommend a stay in this hotel. You will not be disappointed

Lydgate house is a beautiful property situated in the heart of Dartmoor. It is the perfect place to unwind which has direct access to various walks on the Moor. The rooms are very clean and stylish. The breakfasts are delicious, freshly cooked with high quality ingredients, served in the conservatory which has stunning views. The dinners are also delicious and healthy. The hosts Sarah, John and Kelly are all very friendly and attentive, and cater for any diet requirements. This was our 4th time here, and won't be the last, as each visit is a very special treat. Thank you all for spoiling us, and we look forward to seeing you all again.

Just returned from our annual holiday at this fantastic hotel ,|John, Sarah and Kelly are fantastic host nothing is to much trouble for them .we had evening meals every night there is a great choice and so tasty , breakfast was also very good too . The scenery and sound of the river flowing down the valley is just so relaxing, already booked for next year

Great location for numerous Dartmoor walks, very comfortable, clean and warm cottage and excellent staff to greet us and look after us if we needed help or advice. Very enjoyable stay and we hope to return soon, thanks to all involved for your hospitality.
