"If Stockholm epitomizes cool, then the 19th-century Lydmar Hotel has somehow managed to improve upon that ideal. How many hotels give each floor its own distinctive living room—a private lounge away from the bustling lobby that buzzes with a stylish city’s most beautiful and well-connected denizens? And how often is that lobby also an art gallery, a worthy destination in itself and a gateway to rooms where the likes of Damien Hirst would feel right at home? Surely it’s rare to find a rather small hotel like this—home to three of a city’s hottest bars, including two with unobstructed waterfront views of the Royal Palace and surrounding harbor. Few are bold enough to acknowledge that the best spa in a city that celebrates wellness is located next door in another hotel, and that it would be better to get its own guests unfettered access to that luxurious haven than to try to build its own. The Lydmar is a hotel unlike any other."

Lydmar Hotel

"It’s no small feat to open next to the illustrious Grand Hotel and promptly steal the crown of Stockholm’s best hotel. The Lydmar feels like a country house in the heart of the city. The 46 neutral-toned rooms are wonderfully spacious, while the dining room/bar, with its walls lined with books and the sort of artfully arranged clutter that can be achieved only by a lifetime of luxury travel, feels like a living room. Public spaces are decorated with documentary photos, while the views of the harbor and the Royal Palace are superb. In 2005, owner Per Lydmar closed his first eponymous hotel—a property known for its live music and wildly decorated rooms. What sets his second venture apart is faultless style and an atmosphere of relaxed comfort that’s made it the talk of the town."

We just finished our time in Stockholm and it was greatly enhanced by our stay at the Hotel Lydmar. From the first moment of arrival the staff was gracious, friendly and accommodating to our every need and request. They grabbed our large bags with enthusiasm not shown at many of the hotels we have visited. Each room at the hotel is unique which we found to be enjoyable. While not overly large there was more than enough room. I found the room to be very thoughtfully designed in its use of space and support for our devices with a power strip available. ||The bathroom was large with a spacious walk in shower. It would have been nice to have a shelf or stand in the shower for soaps or shampoos. ||For a small boutique hotel we were surprised by the quality and breadth of choices at breakfast. I have seen some reviews commenting on the staff availability, that was not an issue for us. They were friendly, responsive and engaging during our stay,||The location as many mentioned is TERRIFIC. There is a nice bar area in front of the hotel which we enjoyed sitting at on our one sunny day in Stockholm.

This has to be the best place to stay in Stockholm! Perfect location, lovely views across to the old town and all the staff couldn’t have been nicer with great customer service. It’s so refreshing to stay somewhere which has a great atmosphere, with jazz on Saturday and has its own style. Rooms were spacious, luxurious and so quiet. Highly recommend!

Just stayed for 2 nights. This hotel is exceptionally exquisite. Beautiful artwork and luxurious. Has homey feel. The service was awesome. I think i found my home i Stockholm after a long search. Well done guys. Everything is to the T. We stayed in the large king room. The views are also great. Its just a walk away from Palace and part of old town. I am so speechless on how perfect everything was. This was a gamble that paid off for me as I like it safe and usually choose common hotel chains but after going several reviews of hotels in Stockholm I took a leap. Beautiful 😍

’ve stayed at Lydmar regularly over the past 15 years, and it truly feels like a home away from home. The service is consistently 100% – warm, discreet, and always professional. For me, great service means someone is there when you need them, and invisible when you don’t. That’s exactly what you get at Lydmar.||The rooms are spacious, the bathrooms are fantastic, and the beds are honestly some of the best I’ve ever slept in. And the food? Absolutely outstanding. I’m a big fan of room service, and there’s simply nothing better than waking up to one of the best breakfasts in the world delivered right to your door.||Another big plus: you can work out at the Grand Hôtel gym right next door – a world-class fitness center just steps away from your room.||In my opinion, this is hands down the best hotel in Stockholm. Actually, let me correct that – it’s one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at, period.

We had a wonderful stay at the Lydmar. Staff are very nice and eager to please. We had a nice room with a spectacular view overlooking the water and the Royal Palace. The location of the Lydmar is excellent for walking around central Stockholm. Excellent restaurant as well. There is a buzzy bar scene in the late afternoon with music, but this did not affect our stay.

My recent stay at The Lydmar Hotel was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warmth and impeccable hospitality. The staff went above and beyond to ensure every detail of my stay was perfect—friendly, attentive, and always with a personal touch. The room was a masterpiece of understated luxury—stylish, spacious, and incredibly comfortable with a cozy yet elegant vibe. The attention to detail, from the high-quality linens to the curated art and design, made it feel like a home away from home. The location couldn’t be better, right by the water in the heart of Stockholm, with stunning views and easy access to the city’s best attractions. The Lydmar’s atmosphere is effortlessly cool, blending sophistication with a relaxed, welcoming energy.

The service that we received from the moment we arrived until we left 4 days later was fantastic. The front desk staff were superb, offering excellent recommendations for local restaurants, organising cabs etc - nothing was too much trouble.||The hotel itself is in a fabulous location and the funky feel of the Mr & Mrs Smith ethos was evident with the decor and furnishings - something that both my wife and I really appreciated.

Google
The Lydmar Hotel is a gorgeous maximalist boutique hotel filled with evocative photography and art. It’s perfectly located to be walkable to most neighborhoods, and has great views of the water and of Old Town. They have a beautiful dining/lounging space on the first floor, as well as a balcony area for contrails and dining. The staff is incredible, notably Sanne and Karl (I hope I got their names right), who made fantastic recommendations - and reservations - for restaurants. We felt like we got a true Stockholm culinary experience. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Loved our stay. The staff are so friendly and so helpful. The location is perfect- downtown and walkable everywhere. The room was super spacious. We also loved the breakfast buffet. But the staff really went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful. I even got a fist bump from the staff. lol Definitely would stay here again. Felt like home.

Yelp
Pros: Beautifully decorated Excellent service Fantastic breakfast (order their a la carte items) Location is amazing Great black-out curtains for sleep Beautiful views Cons: The valet has to be very coordinated (must tell them in advance when you want to pick it up) and very expensive No air conditioner and no fan when it's hot

Yelp
Absolutely love this place, stayed her a bunch of times the last five years and the service level has been consistently top of the line. My tip would be that if your planning to visit Stockholm in the summer time make sure to book your room months in advance if you like one of the bigger once. Every room is different and I keep getting new favorites. If you have a dog you can stay on the first floor where they are allowed. If you are not used to the Swedish summer sun going all night long you can feel safe since they have very good blinds in every room I tried, black out, get some sleep and meet Stockholm again well rested the next day. You really got the town at your fingertips here, the sightseeing boats leave just steps away from your entrance, you see the castle on the other side of the water and the hotel itself has a terrace, a cute restaurant with very fresh and well designed dishes as well as a bar outside at the front with DJs playing on a regular basis. Coming back again....and again!! (Extra thank you to George with Doris Carl Ström and Sebastian for good service)

Yelp
Our home away from home. Much appreciate Sebastian and his team at the Lydmar. We recharge our cool factor batteries and detox from the bland at this wonderfully stylish and super friendly hotel with loads of cultural inspiration: books, imagery, eclectic furniture and a restaurant that feels like home. Except your sharing crisp bread and scrambled eggs with strangers. Much appreciated the stay as usual. Highly recommended.

Yelp
As a hotel, this place is well outside my budget but I've really enjoyed the two dinners I've had here. The vibe of the Lydmar is warm and inviting - excellent cosy Swedish design is in full effect: flickering candles, soft blankets, scores of books, yet it feels anything but cluttered. On my first visit the server convinced me of the fish over the cheeseburger. Now having had both, I know she was right to recommend the fish. The cheeseburger's average whilst the fish is remarkable. The Lydmar works equally well for a business catch up meal as it does for a small group dinner. I can also see it being a great date spot.

Yelp
Lovely hotel and a great place to stay, conveniently located next door to the national museum. Hotel is full of beautiful Swedish woman. I need a Swedish wife. The staff was magnificent and warm with soul piercing Swedish blue eyes. I love Sweden and all it has to offer.

Yelp
I was looking forward to my stay at the Lydmar after seeing the photos of the property and reading the reviews, however after checking in today it has been a big disappointment so far. I booked a Large Street Room (room 112) which was nice enough at first glance in a funky kind of way, but lacks a major basic feature...privacy curtains! Like the room type suggests it is on the street side, almost at ground level and you would think that a basic amenity like sheer privacy curtains would be standard, especially for a room in such an exposed area of the hotel, but for some mind boggling reason the hotel has only provided blackout curtains. The resulting effect is that if you want any privacy at all you need to use the blackout curtains thus blocking out ALL natural light from the room making it feel like an absolute dungeon. I certainly didn't expect a stunning view with a "street view" room, but I don't think it's unreasonable to have a minimal expectation of having some natural light in the room without having to worry about every pervert in the city peeping into the room from outside. I tried to get the room changed with the front desk, but unfortunately the hotel is full so I've resigned myself to spending as much time outside of this dungeon as possible. Update - I won't even get started about the huge bug that's been buzzing around the room for the last hour which adds insult to injury. Update part 2 - Speaking of injury, whoever designed this room wasn't too bright. There's a little raised door jamb on the floor leading into the bathroom which I've stubbed my toe against twice. Why would they have that there? Wait...another injury to report...I just smacked into the wall mounted TV to the right of the bed which allows just inches to get in and out of bed. Not a very smart placement when getting up in the dark of the night to use the bathroom! And yes, I just stubbed my toe on the damn door jamb for the third time. Now that I'm up nursing my stubbed toe and bruised elbow I'm pondering why there is a large chair in the living room area placed directly in front of the living room TV? Who designed this room!?!?!? This place may just be too "cool" for me. Maybe I'll try moving to next door to The Grand Hotel tomorrow because this place has been a disaster for me so far.

Yelp
Disclaimer: Stayed here on work travel, so didn't pay for anything here out of pocket. As you can guess by the $$$, it is pricey, but you're in Stockholm. Situated next to the larger and better known Grand Hotel, the Lydmar offers a great view of Stockholm's Old Town (Gamla stan), including the royal palace, as well as the river between the islands of Normmalm and Stadsholmen. Though during the winter, a tad chilly just like the rest of Stockholm. The staff could not have been more hospitable during my stay, and are quite helpful if you need directions, recommendations, a taxi, or anything else. Rooms are a bit small, but comfortable. Each floor has a common area where people sometimes relax in. The hotel offers free breakfast - I forget until what time. There's a good range of options, including pastries, yogurt (regular or Greek) with toppings, and eggs. It's quite good and a good way to give your wallet a break before heading out to explore the city. The one thing that was a bit strange was the pictures in the room - maybe I'm just being particular, but found it kinda weird to have pictures of strangers surrounding where I sleep. Might just be a quirk of the hotel to add to the swanky, "hip" vibe. Also, be aware that the main entrance (level with Sodra Blasieholmshamnen) requires stairs to go up to the front desk and elevators, if you're carrying heavy luggage or lots of suitcases.

Yelp
Situated on Södra Blasieholmenshamnen Lydmar Hotel is so beautiful you almost feel like you are in a movie set or seeing everything through a muted glass. The hotel lobby bar is the favorite spot for little afternoon champagne or tea and the little restaurant is magnificant. I adore the New England decor and the efficient but not overly friendly service. The hotel reminds me of New York at its best. The downside of Lydmar is that it is VERY expencice and yet always full. If you do manage to get a room there it is worth every penny. The location and views are amazing and the rooms minimalistic in the perfect sense of the word. See also their (very cute and spot on) listing of hip Stockholm on their website. Extra special feature are the design and contemporary art exhibitions they feature in the dowstairs lobby. Love it.

Yelp
Could stay here the whole year! The only thing missing is the Spa/Gym (having to walk is not as compelling).

Yelp
We stayed in a medium sized room for about $1,000 per night. it is a beautiful and elegant hotel that has a great atmosphere, and is always full of people. The service was great at all times. Amazing location and views. I really enjoyed the week. However, I would like this place if it were less expensive, especially the restaurants and bars.

Yelp
I stayed at the Lydmar for several nights last August. While the location is convenient for sight-seeing and the breakfast buffet was very good, the loud music played in front of the hotel every evening made it very difficult to sleep. It seemed that the priority of the hotel was to provide a hip night club atmosphere rather than provide a restful location for the paying overnight guests. Furthermore, what was particularly surprising and disappointing was that after approaching staff at the front desk several times about the noise level in our room, there was never any follow-up from management as promised nor a gesture of reconciliation of any kind. We simply left disappointed and would never stay there again.

Yelp
Beautiful, little hotel in the center of Stockholm. It is elegantly and creatively furnished, the rooms are big and quiet, the staff kind and helpful. The food at the hotel restaurant is great and you get a 50% discount on the great Nordic SPA next door.

Yelp
Came here for lunch. Lovely cosy atmosphere and comfortable seating; with all the books lining the walls, you almost feel like you are in someone's living room. Service is unhurried and good. I stayed for a while after the lunch to do some work on my laptop and no-one batted an eye. We had the veal, tuna and I had the scallops. Everything was very good, as were the wine selections. Definitely recommended.

Yelp
As kicking hotel! Great atmosphere, lovely design and close to everything if you for some reason would like to leave the hotel restaurant (living room). It is pricy but the extra skr is worth it.

Yelp
I have stayed in this hotel in February. I can say that it was one of the bests hotels I have been to ever. Nice, clean , lots of art pices in room and very good restaurant. Location is great - just opposit Royal Castel.

Yelp
I'm not really sure how this hotel gets all these rave reviews. Our bill was over $1,100 for two nights. For a very small room. And an incredibly dusty one at that. And no hotel info. I had to go online to find out what number to dial on the weird phone to get reception. Lydmar is like an annoying acquaintance who keeps trying to prove how cool and poignant and in-the-know he or she is by talking about how he or she is cool and poignant and in-the-know all of the time. The edgy war-torn and sexy-times photography, art books about prostitution, and strange knickknacks that look like they came from someone's grandmother's attic (we had not one but TWO old plastic alarm clocks still in boxes that looked as if they'd been submerged in water and left to dry out on our bookshelves) are trying waaaaaaay too hard to be trendy and boutiquey. I've done an extensive amount of traveling in my years and have stayed in many boutique hotels. They usually try to hard but are at least subtle about it. Lydmar isn't . Seriously, we labelled the hallways and floors according to the photography. Porn alcove, guilt hallway, natural devastation corridor, gore thruway, sad-world vestibule. Like I said, I've done some traveling, and I've seen some rather devastating things up close with my own two eyes, and I work hard to try to better our world and help those who have been knocked down by it. We were there when the pictures of dead children from Syria were the headline on CNN and BCC. We were watching. We were affected. I get it. I don't live with my head in the sand. The world is a hard and scary and sad place. But for a two-day getaway to visit friends and have some alone time with my husband, I don't need to constantly be bombarded with the imagery. Two things that also stood out during our stay: 1. The TV didn't hold s signal and kept going in and out. 2. The first morning there as we were trying to sleep in, a BLARING ALARM went off. Like something out of a nuclear bomb drill. For minutes. My husband I jumped out of bed and tried to get dressed and gather up some stuff to take from the hotel, since we figured we were being evacuated. But then it just died. No explanation at all. So strange. Don't get me wrong ... there are definitely things to like about the Lydmar - the bed was comfortable and the staff was lovely - but free snacks int the room and L'Occitane toiletries do not a luxury hotel make. There needs to be a little more. Like maybe regular dusting (I can even begin to describe the cloud that was kicked up when I moved one of the depressing books) and some discreetly place info that explains how to use the phone.
