I recently visited LyLo in Auckland, and although I accidentally booked it thinking it was a hotel rather than a hostel, I was genuinely impressed by how fantastic the place is. After taking a walk around with the manager and viewing the pods, I realised it wasn’t the right fit for my family — mainly because my son didn’t want to stay somewhere without a pool. I want to give a big thank you to Frankie, the manager, who made my experience with LyLo absolutely fantastic and completely trouble-free. She was polite, kind, and incredibly generous. Even though I had booked through Booking.com, Frankie offered me a refund straight away with no hesitation. That level of customer service is rare and deeply appreciated. The hostel itself is very clean, modern, fairly new, and perfectly located in the city centre. The vibe is great, and the pods looked comfortable and well-designed. If it had just been me and my wife, we definitely would have stayed. Even though we chose another place this time, I honestly can’t recommend LyLo enough. Amazing staff, spotless facilities, and a welcoming atmosphere. Frankie truly made all the difference — thank you again!

This is without a doubt the worst accommodation I've ever stayed in, including the time I slept on the floor underneath the seats at Hong Kong airport. The pods are sweltering hot (the loud exhaust fans do nothing) and the bright room lights cannot be turned off; the door slams every time someone comes in or out. I don't think it's possible for me to sleep here. No toiletries are provided which I was not aware of. The kitchen is overcrowded. For $70/night it's not even that cheap. This is the first of 6 nights I booked, I feel like just packing up and going home. Very upset Edit: the staff are very nice, no complaints there but unfortunately confirmed that the lights are seemingly unable to be turned off. There are some good things about the place like the community feeling in the common areas, very nice and well behaved guests. The shower facilities are also good. The hot conditions in the room are probably not very easy to solve. But providing a dark room is a low bar for a hotel.

Great hostel - bright and clean with good facilities especially for the really affordable price. I liked the extra privacy of the pods. I stayed in a 10-pod room and slept really well. Having read comments about it being quite hot in the pods, I was a little worried, but for me it was fine - there was a big air con unit in the room plus a small fan in the pod itself which kept it well ventilated. I would definitely recommend staying here!

Fantastic stay. Miss Lucy’s had a great menus & reasonably priced for the traveler. The staff are very knowledgeable & Simon from the travel agency was helping with the hostel amenities. It hour he was employed by the hostel. Great business partners make a great location. My wife & I are mature & seasoned travels. 5 stars just doesn’t cut it. Love to give them a higher rating. Outstanding stay.

We had an amazing stay here during our honeymoon! The location was perfect, and the staff couldn’t have been friendlier. A special shoutout to Jordan, the travel expert, who went above and beyond to help plan our tours and even surprised us with free tickets to a sold-out bar crawl. The hostel had everything we needed — a full kitchen, a great restaurant with an excellent breakfast and bar, and clean, comfortable rooms. The atmosphere was social yet relaxed, with plenty of spaces to unwind. Truly one of the best hostels we’ve ever stayed at!

The facilities are good & the cafe is great too. However, the room was far to warm to the point I only got 3 hrs sleep on one of the nights. Its an issue that seems to pop in the reviews here too. At night, I noticed a lot of people had propped their door open using a shoe etc to leave in some fresh air. The lights in the room stay on all night so if you open your pod, door its completely bright. The room had a plug in cooling fan set to 25C but did nothing given there was of us in the room.

I have mixed feelings about this hostel to be honest. Obviously a lot of effort has been invested in the facilities which are good besides the tiny kitchen, and the pods/dorms are fantastic, but it doesn't make up for the very odd environment and unwelcoming staff. It seems that they are chronically understaffed and so everyone is run off their feet and isn't able to offer you even a smile, it felt like I was causing immense trouble simply to ask for a towel. Having basically no communal area made it difficult to find anywhere to hang out or socialise, so coupled with the unfriendly reception area it felt quite miserable. I would suggest spending less money on flashy gimmicks and more on supporting your receptionists and housekeepers.

We had a wonderful stay at Lylo Auckland. Would highly reccomend for an affordable overnight stay walking distance to the city and other things. We were a group of 10 adults in auckland for a concert at Eden Park! Lylo had everything we needed for somewhere to stay, eat and drink. Super friendly and helpful staff, beautifully clean rooms cant complain.
