I have been to the Lyric numerous times and enjoyed the shows I saw. However, I went to Rocky Horror Picture Show Saturday night and came away extremely ashamed I was there. I hadn't seen it before and I was told by several I had to "at least experience it once." I wish I didn't "experience" it at all. I knew it was adult themed, and I knew it would have sexual references. What I didn't know was that in the first 5 minutes, there was hard core cussing and a theme of incest. I put that out of my mind. While I wasn't crazy about the show, I stayed. After the intermission, there was no "reference" to sexual content. It was full on. By silhouette, but clearly seen nonetheless. There was homo and heterosexual oral sex and homosexual full on sex. There was also blatant masturbation by the lead actor, and 2 of the female actors making obscene gestures with their fingers and tongues. I couldn't handle it. I had to leave. Then I find out that the last scene was the character involved in incest was feeding her baby alcohol. There was nothing funny about any of this. It was disappointing that it seemed the majority of the audience liked all of this. The Lyric Theater is supposed to be a classy place with high quality entertainment, yet they encouraged, in writing, the audience to shout out obscenities throughout the show. The fact that they allowed such trash in their theater is beyond upsetting. I'm all for artistic expression, although I see nothing artistic about this, obviously others do. The difference is, the Lyric is not some theater down on skid row. Sadly, you have stooped to that level. My family, friends, and I will never step foot in your theater again. Thankfully, the Civic Center Music Hall has not stooped to your level. You sold out.
