Such a unique place, enjoyed sitting in front of the fire on a cold day. Friendly staff and the food was amazing with good coffee. We found the prices to be fair. Even tho we sat inside, the outside view looking over the Port would be lovely on a nice day. Next time over from OZ will pop in again.

Coffee shop with a nice view of the water. I loved the rustic atmosphere and the old machine inside the cafe. You can have a brunch, or just a snack here. Service was quick despite the busy staff. We came on a Monday morning before noon anf there were many people. Still, we were able to get some seats on the patio area. Coffee was good as well as their smoothies and toast with eggs.

Lyttelton Coffee Company is an absolute gem, nestled in the heart of Lyttelton with stunning mountain views that perfectly complement its cozy, lodge-like interior. The space feels warm and welcoming, with a rustic cabin vibe that’s ideal for relaxing and soaking in the unique charm of this historic port town. Their avocado toast is nothing short of amazing—hands down one of the most delicious I’ve had. I asked to switch the poached eggs for scrambled, and they happily accommodated, which shows their commitment to excellent customer service. The coffee here is truly exceptional—one of the best I’ve had in New Zealand, where coffee can often be hit or miss. What truly impressed me, though, was their commitment to sustainability. Lyttelton Coffee Company seems to promote local everything, and they don’t offer takeaway coffee- I am guessing that they are aligning with their efforts to reduce waste. They had a sign promoting awareness about cruise pollution, which really highlights their environmentally conscious approach. Interestingly, they also don’t serve decaf coffee. While I didn’t ask why, it made me wonder—could it be because certain decaffeination processes aren’t environmentally friendly? The atmosphere here is relaxed yet vibrant, making it a wonderful spot to unwind and enjoy a meal or a perfectly brewed cup of coffee. I left feeling refreshed and inspired by their dedication to sustainability and quality. If you’re in Lyttelton, this is a must-visit destination for great food, excellent coffee, and an unforgettable experience.

Our friend Patrick brought us on a last day tour and this was a wonderful stop. Harbour view, great food and outdoor dining. Best around.

One of the very best coffees I have had. Mochaccino. Eggs Bene with bacon was great. Amazing view looking over from the balcony. We took some lovely photos from there too.

Update Dec 24: Sadly, our second visit was disappointing. The food lacked flavor, and the table's eggs were not cooked to the requested preference, which left us underwhelmed. The service was also worse than our first visit—rude and unengaging, which dampened the overall experience. July 24: On our first visit, we were impressed by the atmosphere—a really cool cafe with stunning views and a lively vibe. My coffee was smooth and delicious, a definite highlight. I ordered the huevos rancheros, and my nan had the scrambled eggs. We both enjoyed our meals overall. My dish was bursting with flavor, with the ingredients working beautifully together, and I particularly loved the hash. However, the tortilla on the bottom became soggy, which was a letdown. My nan thoroughly enjoyed her meal and rated it highly. Unfortunately, the service was inconsistent. While one of the young baristas was friendly and welcoming, the rest of the staff seemed disengaged and lacked the enthusiasm you'd expect in a customer-facing role. As someone in the hospitality industry myself, I understand the challenges, but customer service is a key part of the experience. While Lyttelton Coffee Co excels in coffee and views, the lack of consistently welcoming and accommodating service lets it down. It’s a shame because this cafe has so much potential.
