The Best Coffee Bars in Los Angeles, According to Eater Editors | Eater LA

"This Sherman Oaks spot is a favorite among locals for its laid-back neighborhood cafe vibes. M Street offers a full slate of espresso drinks, drip coffee, and cold brew, plus a signature mocha and a sweet Caramel Royale. Keep an eye out for seasonal drinks, including a pumpkin spice latte for fall. For those not in the mood for coffee, M Street also offers tea and fruit smoothies." - Mona Holmes

Google
I’d give them 4.5 if I could but rounded up to 5 because I like them a lot. The ambiance and service are outstanding, as is the mandlebread. The coffee is also good, but last time I went it was somewhat burnt. Will go again and give them another try!

Google
Great coffee and great vibes. I loved spending a morning here and was happy that they have a power outlet available, so I could also do some work on my laptop while enjoying the coffee ☕️😊

I was lucky to have this very fine coffee shop just down the street from the place where I stayed with my family while visiting universal studios. The place had a great atmosphere, a great selection of coffee and latte specialties, and plenty of those pastries to choose from. Plenty of nicer on the wall, see the book inside and outside. The style of seating was quite buried with a small upper loft area, and a lower area next to the very studies, and various tables outside both in front of the shop and along the side. The baristas seemed very friendly and attentive, and readily gave advice on the choices that they had to offer. The strawberry latte I got was quite enjoyable, which I enjoyed along with a little gluten-free loaf - quite tasting with pretty star sprinkles on top. I went here twice over the weekend not bothering to look for another place because this one was just what I needed. If you are staying in Studio City, I recommend a stop by here for your coffee here

Google
The coffee? Meh. Average — nothing to write home about. If you live around the corner, sure, I get the loyalty. It’s convenient, it’s local, and hey, habits form fast. But let’s be real: it’s not the kind of brew you drive across town for. Now, the vibe? That’s a different story. The crowd’s chill and eclectic and gives the place some character. I haven’t touched the food yet, so there is no judgment there. But if you’re chasing great coffee — keep chasing.

Google
Several of our friends highly recommended M Street Coffee and it did not disappoint. We really enjoyed our almond milk latte and americano. The staff was also very friendly and ambiance was great. Definitely a new favorite in the area and can’t wait to come back!

Google
This place feels very community-oriented and open. I tend to get almond milk capuccinos and lattes and my husband gets oat milk. They have amaaaazing decaf to the point that you can hardly tell you're missing the caffeine. We have tried the gluten-free almond cookie twice and that was very enjoyable.

Google
Went for the first time for a morning coffee on Sunday morning. Had quite few people in front of us at 10am, but the wait wasn't too bad. Got cappuccino with almond milk. One of the best I've had. Decent price, too, at least for the quality. Will probably make it my go-to coffee shop. Good thing we moved close to this place :) Update on 5.18.25: still come every now and then and remains one of my favorite cafes ever. Coffee still amazing. Brought my parents and few friends and everyone loves it. Photos of the menu are from today :)

Google
This is my first visit, and I must say, I am incredibly impressed! The coffee is truly exceptional, and the friendly atmosphere makes it feel like I am among old friends. I will certainly return, and I highly recommend it.

Yelp
Because I keep asking them and forgetting the answer: the M Street Latte is a latte with muscovado sugar. The M Street Mocha is just a regular mocha. I usually order my mochas half sweet at other places, but here I enjoy it at their full sweet. It's perfect for me, so if you want sweeter, be sure to ask for that! If other places are always too sweet for you, you might love this one! Parking is always easy, service is friendly and fast. They always have cool art on the walls from a local artist that changes every so often.

Yelp
A delightful little neighborhood coffee shop. Friendly, helpful staff - took my iced latte outside and sat at little tables next to the building watching others come and go and just enjoying the fresh air. I also love the little street that the shop is in, filled with palm trees, its like scene out of a movie. Definitely worth a return visit when we are back in the area.

Yelp
The coffee here is just straight up good. I have loved to watch M Street explode in popularity over the years. Anyone in the Sherman Oaks area knows M Street! My most recent visit, I got the pumpkin chai latte and added two espresso shots. It was perfect! I loved that I could actually taste the pumpkin spice and it wasn't overwhelmingly sweet. Pastry selection is great if you need something to munch on with your coffee. I love their blueberry scones the best. This place gets pretty crowded so expect a line out the door on weekends. There is limited outside seating, but I usually end up being able to snag a table for two. Sometimes there are large groups that use up like half the seating outside, so I wouldn't recommend coming here with like a group because you likely won't be able to find seating. Though the inside seating is usually more available! Great people watching here and dogs galore! Service is good and I like the variety of seasonal drinks they offer throughout the year.

Yelp
A very nice little neighborhood coffee shop in Sherman Oaks. Friendly staff and plenty of places to sit inside & out. Free street parking on Moorpark and the side streets. We came on a Sunday morning and found a spot two doors down. We had a Pumpkin Pie Latte & Flat White. Both were good, not great but good. They were busy, coffee shop on a Sunday morning busy, the order line moved quickly and the drinks came out quickly too. The shop does have a comfortable vibe and that goes a long way :)

Yelp
Tried this spot for the first time today and it was BUSY. Parking is basically all residential so good luck! We got lucky and got one right up front. It's a small little coffee shop with a couple of seats and tables inside and outside but for the most part, they make drinks real quick and people are in and out in a heartbeat. Parking shouldn't be too bad! Line was basically out the door when we got there but it went by really quickly. I went for a medium iced pistachio latte since I haven't had one in a good year or so! Not many places offer it so I knew I had to get it. We also grabbed an organic dark chocolate hazelnut bar with pink sea salt which was just okay. Wish it had more salt, then it would be perfect! Absolutely loved the pistachio latte tho! Got my drink quick and snapped some photos outside. They're along this really pretty residential street with a row of palm trees on each side. Beautiful and perfect for photos! Looking forward to coming back to try their pastries and other drinks. Also, they have GREAT prices! There are so many coffee shops that are way overpriced but this place has great prices and super delicious coffee. Love it! IG: @ammysalamii

Yelp
Cool little coffee shop, reminds me a lot of one in my town. I stopped by here on a Saturday morning and although it was very busy the baristas kept the drinks coming. Between three of us we ordered a matcha, ice vanilla latte and a chocolate croissant. Everything was great and the prices were pretty low. Plenty of parking down the road in the residential area. If you're in the area, definitely stop by.

Yelp
M Street Coffee popped up on my radar, and I'm glad I gave this local cafe a try. Parking is available on nearby residential streets and only a one block walk during busier hours. Despite being a weekday afternoon, I was surprised with how packed it was. What made it so good? Upon walking in, I noticed their community shelves for small businesses to advertise themselves. The interior is spacious, and there is a sectioned area for tables. There are even standing table options by the wall and outdoor seating when those are filled. I ordered an iced latte, and I found these to be bolder and darker - though not bitter. The milk provided a hint of sweetness, but it barely peeked through, not quite my preference but not unbearable. Free Wi-Fi is available for two hours, and overall it is a nice low key place to hangout with friends or get work done. Looking around, there are also a few artists and students in the area - nice local cafe!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite Valley coffee shops. Located on a neighborhood corner in Toluca Lake, this spot is always packed with regulars. The staff are lovely and the space is rotating different art collections by various visual artists. The coffee is great. Matcha comes pre-sweetened but it isn't so sweet you'll regret the order IMO. They've also got an array of pastries, but come first thing - they sell out pretty quickly. Their tea list is vast and they've got specialty drinks as well, such as lavender honey lattes, smoothies, or pistachio lattes. Bring your laptop to get some work done using their free WiFi, or hang outside with your friends or doggies. Parking can be tricky, but it's free if you can snag a spot nearby. Take home some of their merch!

Yelp
Great drinks and service. Normal coffee shop vibes. I like how it's not in a congested area and you can find easy street parking.

Yelp
Found this coffee shop on Yelp and was drawn in by the strawberry latte, but I ended up getting the ice caramel royale! Very happy with this choice. But this shop is situated on the corner of Moorpark and Longridge - lots of street parking When you walk in you're greeted by the fresh smell of coffee grinds and the friendly welcome from the baristas. They're super friendly and was super helpful with suggestions as it was my first time here. The shop is small with about 8 tables that seat 2 people and a few seats outdoors. Perfect to get some work done on the laptop

Yelp
I love finding good quality matcha latte spots! Much more one kind of hidden mid-Valley. This is on a corner in between Ventura and the Fashion Square mall, so residential street parking is your only option, but never a problem. I've tried the lavendar honey latte as well, it was still good but not as yummy as their matchas, in my opinion. Bonus: they have a cup of random stickers next to the pick up window, some art by the door, staff profiles, etc. There are always people in chill, casual convo or on their laptops. Whenever I'm in the area and have time, I'll swing by.
google avatar

Stacy R.

Yelp
I am now a regular! I LOVE their coffee. Fruit Smoothies are heavenly. The staff are fantastic. Tons of ambiance, very vibrant, very cool. Beautiful neighborhood to walk in. It's still busy because it's soooo good, but as a regular i know exactly when to go, & when to avoid the crowds ... early morning, lunchtime and weekend mornings aren't a good time. Forget Starbucks & The Coffee Bean, they don't come close in taste or price. M Street is an absolute neighborhood gem.

Yelp
This place was great! You can tell the locals love it because there was a short line out the door on Saturday morning when I went. They are very quick to serve and make the drinks which made it nice. There are so many different milk options so suitable for everyone. There was a decent amount of inside seating and I believe a few chairs outside. The traditional vanilla latte was incredible. The pistachio was also delicious if you like pistachio flavored things.

Irene M.

Yelp
Was driving by and wanted to try this spot. The line was out the door, but moved very fast! There's a tabled area where people can work on laptops, etc.. The matcha was great, would love to try a signature drink next time. The only thing is that I ordered a toasted bagel with cream cheese and it came with the smallest packet of cream cheese ever. I wish there had been a little more and it would've been nice if it could've been spread and prepared for me as I was on the go. Other than that, great experience!

Yelp
First time trying this place out. A busy coffee shop with both indoor and outdoor seating. Lots of people studying and working most likely while enjoying their drinks. I got the cold brew but didn't like it much, it was a bit too acidic for my taste. Will try other things next time I'm here. But I gotta mention it was the cheapest cold brew I ever bought, $4 for a 16oz ... they also sell baked goods such as scones and biscotti etc.... Service was friendly and fast. The ambiance is ok.

Yelp
Nice afternoon stop! Was gifted a gift certificate to MStreet! Very cool little neighborhood spot! Staff is lovely!

Yelp
My on going quest to find the very best chai latte took me to this lovely coffee spot on the corner of Moorpark and Fulton in Sherman Oaks. A quick glance around told me I was in a good place...the outside dining tables were all full as were the indoor ones as well. The line coming out the door was moving along quickly as I secured my spot. One inside I noticed how friendly everyone was working behind the counter, answering all the questions and filling the orders of the folks ahead of me. Saw in their pastry case a wide variety of scones, bagels and croissants to name a few of the delicious bites available. Ordered a cold Nitro brew for my hubby and a large chai latte with oat milk for myself. Was going on instinct here as normally I request a smaller size. Not long after placing my order were the drinks ready for pick up. The latte was fantastic, with just the right amount of spice, temperature perfect and it wasn't overly sweet. This one is one of the best , no doubt about it. Only downside, is it's not near our home. My hubby's cold nitro brew was also refreshing. Parking is challenging on an early Saturday morning. Guess the word is our that this place is good! Would I return? For sure!!

Yelp
One of my go to coffee shops in the entire SFV! I'm long over due for a visit and will be stopping by soon. Great tasting organic coffee, tea, and smoothies. Impossible to go wrong with anything on the menu. Their cookies and baked goods are delicious as well. Service is excellent and everyone is welcoming. Plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor. Parking is a bit challenging because it's street parking, but worth the hassle.

Yelp
This is my favorite coffee shop in the valley. The drinks are consistently made perfectly and are good every single time. The baristas are so friendly. They even have space to enjoy the outdoors while sitting outside, or you can sit inside if it's cooler to work on your laptop. My personal favorite is the sugar and spice latte with oat milk. Be sure to check them out!
google avatar

Yelp
GO HERE!! If you are in the Valley, you must swing through M Street on any given day for *amazing coffee*, fantastic baristas, yummy snacks, friendly customers, and to enjoy the work of a local artist on display. Truly a gem of the Valley, wave at Andrea (the owner) when she's frequently in. She's magical.

Love this place! all of the people that work here are so sweet, especially Sam! she is so sweet and has an amazing character. this cafe is super cute. they also have macadamia nut mlk which is so delicious and the texture is so similar to regualr milk and dosnt have any added sugars! Will be back for Sam to put a smile on my face w some yummy matcha w macadamia mlk

Yelp
Great coffee and the vegan chocolate chip cookies were excellent! Outdoor seating for those with dogs. Awesome neighborhood establishment.

Yelp
Decent coffee. Terrible, bready almond croissant. Getting it heated up probably would've helped it a little.

Yelp
This review is long overdue! I love this little shop - everybody's always so nice, and their coffee is superb. Long live M Steet!

Yelp
I came here for a study date at around 1:30pm on a Tuesday. Parking on the street was easy to find, and ordering a cup of coffee was quick. The cashiers and baristas were really nice and helpful in customizing my coffee as it was my first time and I didn't want something too strong. I ordered the iced Caramel Royale, half sweet with just 1 shot of espresso per the barista's recommendation. It was really delicious! They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating but unfortunately all seats were taken. I'd still come back just for the coffee as I'm sure the other flavors are just as great!
google avatar

Justine Y.

Yelp
Thank you, Yelp, for guiding us to this awesome coffee shop! We ordered the Caramel Royal and the Matcha Latte, both iced. Delicious coffee made so well! The staff was friendly and kind. I will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
Recently I was in the Studio City area and I made a small detour to give this highly Yelp rated coffee shop a try. [Parking]: Street parking only, but I didn't have too much trouble finding a spot to park on Sunday afternoon. [Atmosphere]: The shop really emphasizes on supporting local artists and you will find various paintings on the wall for sales. In fact there's a section called "Artist's Trading Cards" with some pretty silly index cards. There were plenty of outdoor patio tables available as most customers prefer to sit inside of the shop. Cashier was friendly. [Menu]: They have over 20+ different tea options from black tea, green tea, white tea, and herbal tea. The menu also includes regular cold brew, nitro cold brew, and caramel royale (one of Yelp highlights). *** Unsweetened Latte (medium, $4): I swear that I asked for a medium size drink, but I think ended up with a large size instead. The drink had no latte art and felt like a slightly better version of caffè latte from Starbucks. The drink had light aroma and didn't taste super strong. Not too much to complain given the drink was reasonably priced. *** Would I drive out of the way next time? Probably not, but this is one of those coffee shops I would visit once in a while if I actually live near Universal Studios Hollywood. 3.5-star on coffee, but bump up with the benefit of the doubt.

Yelp
Good coffee. Always consistent with their stuff. Great place to study and customer service is always on point

Yelp
I think this is the best coffee spot i've been to in years! It feels like a hidden gem that the locals only know about. The people are great, the coffee is amazing! The coconut macadamia is to die for! I also love the seating in the cafe. It's a very cute neighborhood spot. I'd come every morning if I could!

Yelp
BEEN HEE. ALL GOOD. SPACIOUS, friendly. and parking around the place, unlike ventura blvd! Get in here.

Yelp
Here is what you should get: -An Oat Milk Latte -SUPER Hot -With a mix of both HONEY and MUSCOVADO brown sugar And then enjoy. Be comforted. In a world full of uncertainty, this drink is a sure thing. You're welcome.
google avatar

Yelp
10/10 matcha latte!! I got it with oat milk and honey, sooo delicious and reasonably priced. Will definitely be coming back here more often :)
google avatar

Yelp
Great espresso, super smooth and rich tasting. Nice art in the shop , the people working are very nice also. The air outside smells like roasted coffee. Very nice.
google avatar

Jennifer P.

Yelp
This spot was the closest local coffee shop near me so I stopped by and am really happy I did. This place feels like your classic neighborhood coffee shop with indoor and outdoor seating and local art on the walls. Street parking was relatively easy to find. I just got a classic latte and it was sooo good and comforting. The coffee had a full and nutty flavor. Their muffins were good too! The person taking my order was welcoming as well. Great spot to check out in the area!!
google avatar

Kat G.

Yelp
Seriously the best Vanilla Lattes I've EVER had! Friendly and Fast service every time.
google avatar

Scott E.

Yelp
Best mocha in town. Hands. Down. I've been coming here for years, and I'm surprised at myself for not having left a review sooner. It's a small little shop where, eventually, everybody knows your name. Imagine "Cheers," but coffee instead of beer. I come here on weekends now and then to grade papers. I try to get my favorite table in the window, I save 25 cents because I bring my own cup, and I invariably get distracted from work by conversations with people I meet. Great coffee, great people, great environment. Run, don't walk.

Yelp
Very tasty coffee here at M Street. We ordered the Medium Iced Caramel Royale and Small Macadamia Latte with Vanilla. The iced caramel royale is really good, and I would even say is one of my favorite coffee drinks as of now. It was very smooth going down and had a nice caramel taste. The caramel syrup they use is fantastic tasting and does not have that artificial flavoring that other places do. Therefore, when I tried this for the first time, I was very pleased. We tried the Macadamia Latte with some vanilla syrup. Again it went down smoothly. The vanilla syrup they use is also very good and not artificial tasting at all. It paired well with the strong macadamia taste of the milk. I like how both of the drinks were the perfect sweetness. Very tasty drinks! The quality of the drinks is good. Again, I could tell they use good-quality syrups. The presentation is bland. I wish they used cups with their logo on them. It would definitely add to their presentation. When places just write on the plastic cups with a sharpie, it is a little offputting. In other words, the drinks don't make you want to take a picture of them. The portion to price is fair. They charge average coffee shop prices. They don't overdo it with the ice. The staff was just alright. It was a little busy so I could understand the lack of greeting. No small talk, no smiles, just take the order and go. Though, they were quick in making the drinks. The ambiance is really nice. They have a nice seating area, where people were studying. It is a little small, but I still see myself studying here. The place was pretty clean. The parking is a little tough because it is only street parking. M street serves tasty and quality drinks!

Yelp
A valley's hidden GEM!! I've gotten the oat matcha and m street macadamia milk latte now, and both did not disappoint. Both not too sweet, while still maintaining flavor. Although, I do think the drinks could use more ice or maybe bigger ice cubes because I love my drinks to be refreshingly cold esp in this valley heat but that's my personal preference. Nonetheless a 5 star review because this cafe is SO cute for selling little cards, merch, and even books!! I think a cafe's experience is really enhanced by its character and this place does it well. It would be a lovely spot to study at, there are also a few tables outside. The baristas are always super sweet, friendly, and helpful! I see myself being a regular here and nothing but love for this place!

Yelp
Great coffee Great staff Quick service This was my first but certainly not my last visit Highly recommend

Yelp
I have been here many many times and I can't believe I haven't written a review for this place! Hands down, one of the best coffee places I've ever been to! I usually order iced honey lavender latte and you can customize the sweetness of any of your drinks. The service is superb, they treat you like family. They have indoor seating and outdoor as well. The line for this place can get pretty long, but their fast service gets the line down fairly fast. Food selection: they have a variety of pastry, which all look good. I personally haven't tried anything because I only go there for their coffee. But I highly recommend this place for any coffee lovers out there!

Yelp
I love Mstreet, my boyfriend & I been going here for the past year. I get a light ice latte w/ a splash of oat milk & cinnamon. I loveeeeeee there everything bagels but the sell out so fast. Pastries, bagels etc sell out fast so I would say get there early. Great service , great staff & vibes. It's only street parking

Yelp
I love this place. My non-caffeinated drink was so good. I hope to come back for the caffeinated ones after I give birth. Service was great. Loved how nice they were and pretty helpful. The inside was kind of small in terms of seating, but there's also chairs outside. Not toooo much of a busy street so sitting outside isn't too bad on a cool day. Make sure you're not doing that during mid-summer or you'll die from the heat in the valley!
google avatar

Tess l.

Yelp
Cute place. I love the white chocolate rose latte. It's very sweet though ask less syrup if you don't like sweet You can create your own coffee with some of their flavors. Very friendly and a place to sit and read. Good energy inside! Quick reviews, just for you
google avatar

Alex J.

Yelp
A small coffee shop off the hustle and bustle of Ventura blvd tucked into a quiet neighborhood. Service is great from the moment you walk in but the shop itself it just a bit too empty and boring for me. There is no seating inside and a few tables/chairs outside, but it seems like they have an "art gallery" of sorts inside? Nothing spectacular or any reason to stick around. They have a great selection of typical coffees as well as some fusions and specials, I went with the hot vanilla rose latte. Smooth but bold flavor, you really get that floral note of the rose without it overpowering the drink or vanilla flavor while the vanilla comes through so nicely and create a vibrant pairing with the coffee and rose.
google avatar

Leah A.

Yelp
The coffee is so fresh here! You can really taste the high quality blends they use. I also love their blueberry loaf, it's so perfect with the coffee. Not too sweet, just right and it happens to be gluten free. It's always busy when you walk in yet the crowd is nice and chill. Parking is not the best, but it is a great neighborhood so very walkable if you happen to park far.
google avatar

Rey M.

Yelp
I happened to be in the area, and craving some coffee. Came across this coffee shop, so my wife and I gave it a try. I really enjoyed my cup. Triple Shot White Chocolate on Oat Milk is my go to. The blend here is tasty. Staff at this shop are nice, and the ambiance is very relaxing. I recommend this drink if you're in need of some caffeine. I definitely will come back whenever I'm in the area.

Yelp
I'm feeling so grateful for M Street and I've felt its been time for an update for a little while now. The encounter and incident that lead to my last update has since disappeared from the place and they've been operating and serving our community through this difficult time, which I'm so thankful for. I typically stop in towards the end of the day now, for my second latte of the day and the service has been so kind. They always greet me with a friendly demeanor. I've been ordering the biscotti and vegan cookies a lot lately and find myself tipping each time because I'm so over joyed with the service. The evening crew (near closing time, 5p) are delightful. I always get a small iced oat latte to perk up my late afternoon, evening hours. I am proud to happily recommend M Street again, and while there are indeed several other great coffee options in the area that I frequent. I'm pretty much back to giving m street nearly 100% of my evening coffee business. Great afternoon/evening crew, the kind that make you happy to support small businesses.

Yelp
The mocha maestros! My all-time fav coffee shop. Try it and you'll understand why there are so many daily regulars here, including myself.
