Ma chef

Ma Chef is one of those places that look like any ordinary place from the outside, but the food they serve here is so delicious, and very decently priced that I for sure have to come back here. I ordered the tonkotsu with rice and gravy, and I got 2 huge pieces of pork, plus rice and a salad that all came on one plate and it was delectable. My partner had the cold noodles and they very much enjoyed their experience as well! We both left feeling very satisfied and making sure we remembered this restaurant. We can't wait to come back again! Update: Came back again, this time to provide a photo of my meal, this time I also got the Yukhwe which was a raw beef salad with apple wood smoke, but came back again for the Korean Style Pork Cutlet

I have tried kimchi jjigae in Toronto, Banff, Calgary and Vancouver but ma chef has the best in my opinion. The kimchi has been fermented and tasted very authentic similar to true korean stew. The chef's cooking technique is impressive too, he removes a layer of oil that gathers at the top of kimchi jjigae. He is very detail oriented with his cooking, he has a culinary background.

Best and most authentic Korean restaurant in Edmonton. Just went there with my friend and the Ahjussis gave us free drinks. The naengmyeon was amazing! Very kind and friendly service!! Highly recommend if you're looking for a proper korean dine-in experience.

HANDS DOWN BEST BOSSAM in the city and it isn't even close. Must try. Pork has a great smokey flavour and it's so damn tender and juicy. The Rocky Mountain stew was perfect on the chilli day and soul warming. The rare beef salad was also tasty. Just make sure to let it warm up at your table for 10 minutes or so, as it's partially frozen when it arrives. Probably my favorite Korean restaurant in the city. Will definitely be back.

The raw beef (yukhwe) was excellent. Starts off a little bit cold but as it warms up to room temperature it's essentially like beef sashimi. The dressing is also excellent. The fried cutlet was a generous portion and fried very well.

Its our first time coming here and i was impressed with the service! I love the short ribs its falls off the bone and perfect pair with the salad it came with! The chef specifically came over our table and showed me how to eat it, so good! I love kimchi jigaes, i always try this dish when i get a chance. Definitely comforting, good serving too! 3 people can share! it was def a lot for the 2 of us. I wish people will come visit more! I cant recommend this enough!

Ordered takeout and this is by far the best Korean in the city. Their meat dishes are a large portion size and flavourful. Great amount of heat. Chicken wings are cooked perfectly. Super crispy on the outside and flavourful and tender on the inside with a Great amount of meat. We are always pleasantly surprised by their fried tofu. My partner and I aren’t big tofu fans, but this is actually one of our favourite dishes from Ma Chef. We’re big fans for life!

Chef Jackie was cooking up some amazing food! He showed us how to eat Bossam. Can’t forget the amazing service too. I would recommend this place if you’re looking for elevated Korean food in Edmonton 🤜🤛

I've tried food from Ma Chef a couple of times after people recommended it, including the Korean-Style Pork Cutlet and CN Tower Gamjatang Jeongol. The pork cutlet was really crispy, had good thickness and flavour, and the sauce made it really stand out. The Gamjatang was really good as well. It was a bit more spicy than most other ones I've had (which I liked), had quite a bit of good vegetables, the meat was really flavourful and tender, and the udon was a good inclusion. Overall, it was really good value for the quantity and quality of the food so I'd rate them 8.8/10

Love this Korean restaurant and love the vibe and interior decor. I really enjoyed the K-Pop music that was playing while we enjoyed our meal. The owner was very nice and friendly and the food tasted amazing. We enjoyed everything that we ordered, but my favourite was definitely the bo-ssam. Here's what we ordered. - Korean Fried Chicken Wings (with side salad) - Ttukbaegi Gamjatang - Korean Style Pork Cutlet - Bo-ssam

Again a little pricey but well worth it in terms of flavour and portion size. Pretty minimal in design but functional. Not a place though that makes you want to linger at. It is not too comfortable. Food was amazing. We had the yukhou (beef tartar), a whole fried tilapia fish which was a special, and the other special which was a spicy stew. Everything came out hot and bursting with flavour. I liked how the chef took the fish off the bones for us. Spicy stew was delicious and did have quite a bit of seafood in it. I also loved the taste and presentation of the beef tartar. We didn't have room for dessert but we did have a delicous wine. It was berry flavoured and surprisingly good. Love this place and can't wait until I can try something else on the menu.

The portions here are of great value and the food is super tasty! I would recommend this place to others :) Ordered the korean style pork cutlet (rice, house salad,and house made gravy sauce) $16 - and it came with two pieces. I enjoyed the sesame oil that came with the fresh salad (with cabbage, carrots etc). The gravy reminds me of Japanese brown sauce (soy sauce, brown sugar, worcestershire sauce) and it was super tasty. It went well with the rice!!

This is latest restaurant that's opened to join the Edmonton Korean scene. It is located in a small strip mall near Southgate mall. I've been here twice now and it's fantastic. I've been to many Korean restaurants and this one ranks very high in Edmonton. Machef has better portions and quality than other Korean restaurants I've visited. It is also reasonably priced since the portions are pretty big. The menu is small but food is good. The inside is modern and clean. For the food, I've tried: -Bo-ssam $37 (boiled pork belly lettuce wraps): It comes in a plate with a steam lid and is a share dish. It's a great dish for pictures and is delicious. The pork belly is tender and soft. It goes well with the soybean paste and the other add ons (I really liked the Kimchi). The only con of this dish is that the lettuce is too small to wrap but as long as you take bites of the ingredients together...you would not be disappointed! -Spicy Pork Bone Stew $13: this is more of an individual dish. Stew is spiced perfectly and very flavorful. It come with a bowl of rice and Kimchi. Great comfort food for a cold day. I find this dish is better value for the portions you get compared to other Korean restaurant stews. -CN Tower Spicy Pork Bone Stew $37: this is a bigger share plate version of the individual stew above. The difference is that this one has noodles, spinach, significant increase in the amount of pork bones with meat and is initially presented with a tower of spinach and meat. It also comes with two bowls of rice. I shared this with three other friends and we all enjoyed it. The service was friendly and welcoming. The owner was interested in our feedback of the food for both of my trips here. For my second trip, he even gave us a plate of complimentary corn chip snacks he made and it was tasty as well. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants good Korean food and I'll definitely be back to try the other items on their menu.

Officially my favourite Korean restaurant! They haven't been open long, but boy oh boyyyyy every item on the menu is seriously BOMB! If you're up for an adventure, I'd definitely recommend the yukhoe (beef tartare). If there's a special, get it. You won't regret. I tried a deep fried fish special when I went, and it was the most amazing deep fried whole fish I have ever had. Perfectly seasoned a bit sweet, salty and tart. I normally don't enjoy fish dishes much, but I couldn't stop eating this one.

Amazing food and staff are really friendly and helpful. I recommend bbq chicken and bibimbap. :)

Love their beef kimchi soup and bone soup. Nice staff with great service. Korean food is one of my favorite.

Machef is a new Korean restaurant that has opened in southside Edmonton! It is located in the same strip mall as Sunterra Market and Sushi Wasabi. The restaurant gives off a very homey feel and the menu is what I would consider Korean "comfort food". At Machef, the menu is small. The owner, Jacky, told me that he wanted to focus on quality, rather than quantity. Unlike other Korean restaurants that have a large number of menu items but only a few outstanding ones, he wanted to ensure every item on his menu was delicious! We started off with the Steamed Tofu. It was a simple dish - the tofu was topped with mixed greens and a soy garlic sauce. I liked how the sauce added a lot of flavour to the tofu but wasn't heavy. The other appetizers on the menu are Panfrying Tofu, Avocado & Shrimp Salad, and Yukhoe (Korean style raw beef salad). This was actually my second visit here. I ordered the same thing as my first visit because I had been craving it. The Korean Style Pork Cutlet is very filling and satisfying (look at how big that cutlet is!). It's topped with a housemade gravy sauce that isn't too savoury but has a slight tang. If you don't like to get lost in the sauce like me, you can ask for less sauce or have it on the side. The cutlet comes with a scoop of rice and house salad. If you think there's too little rice, you can always ask for more. I had to because I like my meat to rice ratio to be even. The house salad reminded me of coleslaw with a sesame sauce. My friend had the Seoul Seolleongtang which is a beef bone soup with rice noodles and thin slices of beef striploin and brisket. It's served with rice and radish. She really enjoyed her soup and said it was hearty. I had a bit of a taste and found the broth to be on the lighter side. The owner gave us samples of his special feature that night to try. It was Spicy Pork Belly, which I hope will become a permanent addition to the menu. I didn't order it originally because I have a low tolerance to spice but I really liked it! The sauce wasn't burning and the pork belly was very tender. We shared Patbingsu for dessert, which is Korean shaved ice. Here, the shaved ice does not contain milk in it like at other places. The owner wanted to make it as traditional as possible. He said that the Patbingsu served here was reminiscent of what he used to eat in Korea during his childhood. The shaved ice gets its sweetness from its toppings: red bean paste and condensed milk. We really enjoyed this dessert and liked how fresh the housemade red bean paste tasted. Overall, I found Machef to be a very welcoming Korean restaurant. The food was delicious, the portions were above average, and the pricing was fair. I will definitely be frequenting this restaurant as I do love Korean food!

Just ordered Pork bone Korean soup from this place via door dash ... big friggen mistake .. do yourself a favour if you love Korean food like I do DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE .. My 15 dollar soup I get at Korean grill 2 is filled to the brim with MEAT and onions this was all broth with 2 little pork bones lol .. how do you guys think Anyone will be coming back to this place after that rip off ???? TRASH. ILL STICK TO KOREAN GRILL!!!!!

New Korean spots seem to be popping up all over the south side. We decided to try Machef, which is a few doors down from Sushi Wasabi. We dropped in on a Sunday (around 1:00pm) for a late lunch. It was empty but there were a couple other customers that came in. Service is friendly and the chef even popped by a few times to say hello. The menu is small; appetizers, mains and desserts for a total of 15 items. - Banchan - kimchi and radish. Standard. - Panfrying tofu ($7.00) - with chili and sweet & sour sauce. Tofu was light but everyone wanted it crispier. - Yukhoe ($12.00) - Korean style raw beef salad. Turns out it's more like a beef tartare. Nicely marinated and good texture. - Rice ($1.50) - extra rice will cost you. - Rocky mountain bulgogi ($35.00) - marinated thin sliced beef, vegetables, tofu and glass noodles. This comes in a big pot to share. Broth is homey, simple and slightly on the sweet side. - Korean style pork cutlet ($16.00) - pork sirloin cutlet with house salad and gravy sauce. This was my favourite dish that we ordered. Cutlet was perfectly breaded and the texture was fantastic. - Bo-ssam ($35.00) - boiled pork belly wraps with lettuce, seasoned radish and soybean paste. Another dish everyone loved. Pork belly was tender and juicy with the fat to meat ratio spot on. Oddly, they don't give much cabbage to wrap the meat in. The dish also came with raw garlic, sliced jalapeños and an addictive sauce. You will want a refill of that sauce! - Ttukbaegi gamjatang ($13.00) - spicy pork bone soup with potatoes and napa cabbage. The broth wasn't very spicy and we found the flavours subdued compared to everything else. Another solid Korean spot. Make sure you get the cutlet.

Brilliant discovery! Great fresh ingredients, this is now my only Korean restaurant to support! I was so impressed with everything we ordered and the customer service in all the details was fantastic. Very clean quality restaurant. Wishing them much success.

Much smaller menu than most Korean places, which honestly I appreciate so much! Tried the pork cutlets and the Rocky mountain bulgogi hotpot. Wow!! The pork was super thin and perfectly breaded and crispy! Huge too! Great amount of food in the sharing hotpot, lots of sweetness and on a cold day, you can't ask for more. The chef came out and helped us cook our hotpot meal and used scissors to cut the cutlets for us. Great service. Will be back, great addition to the korean food scene in edmonton!

This restaurant was a delight. As a couple we popped in after reading some excellent reviews. The chef personally welcomed us. We ordered the panfried Tofu to start, along with some green tea. For our mains, we got the Bibimbap and the Tilapia (special). Everything was excellent and delicious. The chef personally mixed the Bibimbap for us and showed us how to cut and serve the fish. Beautiful presentation, warm and gracious service, delicious food. We were really charmed and highly recommend.

This is the best Korean food in the city wow !! The Bibimap is soooooo good, also the service was a 10/10. The chef even showed us pictures of each menu item on an IPad.10/10, and the portions are big so it's best to share between a few people. The prices are also super reasonable too. It's a hidden gem and the vibe is so perfect too. I'll definitely be back again .

It's a small place that gets busy quite fast. I honestly wanted to rate this place higher than 3 stars. The food is quite tasty but the service definitely puts a damper on the experience. We were seated and it took quite a while for us to receive our drinks. After we ordered we never got our waters refilled. We had to flag down our server for the bill and the table behind us probably sat for 15 minutes before a server even came to take their order.
