Hands down our favorite dining experience of 2025 so far! This was our first time experiencing Georgian cuisine, and we were so impressed. The staff went above and beyond to walk through the menu with us. The cheese boat was absolutely unreal and beats any cheese bread we had ever had before. The dumplings were great too, and we appreciated that they told us the proper etiquette for eating them. Our meals, dessert, and drinks were all fantastic. Truly an exceptional experience, and we can’t wait to come back with our family so they can try it!

Google
What an amazing find in Norwalk! Absolutely loved their authentic Georgian eggplant rolls, spread, shish kabobs, and dumplings! This is coming from someone who grew up in the country of Georgia, so I would know 😁! So glad to find this hidden gem! Will be coming back for sure!

MaaMa by Cheese and Bread is a truly wonderful place that makes you feel at home from the very first moment. The atmosphere is warm, cozy, and full of charm — perfect for both a relaxed dinner and a special occasion. The food is absolutely delicious, made with high-quality ingredients and great attention to detail. Every dish is beautifully presented and full of rich, authentic flavors. You can really feel the love and care put into the cooking. The service is exceptional — friendly, attentive, and professional. The staff makes sure you are comfortable and enjoy every part of your visit. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates great food, a welcoming atmosphere, and an overall memorable dining experience. I will definitely be coming back!

Wonderful Georgian restaurant. The khachapuri was amazing. A ton of melting yellow cheese, runny egg and a lot of butter. Very nice slightly sweet Georgian wine.

Absolutely loved the fine dining and friendly vibe. The food was amazing. I am vegetarian and I found that there was plenty for me to eat. Loved the magic mushroom. Will come back to try the main dishes. Cheese boat was my favorite dish and the martini is to die for!

Amazing atmosphere went to this spot over the holiday season. The decorations are beautifully designed the staff was very kind and welcoming to me a perfect spot nestled in the heart of Sono it really gave off an ambiance during the season, I highly recommend if you’re here during the holiday to check out this place. You won’t be disappointed. It gives south Norwalk a charm to dine here

If you haven't tried Georgian food before, and you're in Norwalk, here's your chance! If you like melty cheese and soft, warm bread, the Cheese Boat hits the spot. Dumplings were amazing, and the wine selection is great. Best cocktail? Georgian sunset - mango and mildly sweet, but not overwhelming.

I read the other people’s reviews and realized that most of them do not know what the Georgian cuisine is and what to order . The food here is really great! We ordered Adjarian cheese pie ( Hachapuri ) …you can compare it to grilled Halumi in a very light pastry or Greek Spanokopita , also a tomato -cucumber salad with the walnut dressing, super crunchy and good… as a main course we had Beef Hinkali… these are giant dumplings and to enjoy them fully you hold a dumpling by its button and bite at a side to drink the juice first around the minced meat … So , it’s better to ask the waiter’s advice 😄, but it’s worth it The ambiance is really nice. The deserts were really tasty .

Yelp
What a great experience! I heard about this restaurant from our friends and it succeeded my expectations . We ordered Adjarian cheese pie ( Hachapuri ) ...you can compare it to grilled Halumi in a very light pastry or Greek Spanokopita , also a tomato -cucumber salad with the walnut dressing, super crunchy and good... as a main course we had Beef Hinkali... these are giant dumplings and to enjoy them fully you hold a dumpling by its button and bite at a side to drink the juice first around the minced meat ... So , it's better to ask the waiter's advice , but it's worth it The ambiance is really nice. The deserts are creative looking and tasty .

Yelp
I am flummoxed with the high ratings and wonder if something has changed in the recent past. We went for dinner and were excited for the meal considering the ratings. The food was very very very bad. We have been to good georgian restaurants (Chama Mama being one of them). My husband and I realized that we were talking about how bad the food was even 3 days later - an experience we have never had. We have been to restaurants with average passable food and we accept them for what it is, but just the absolutely dismal state of food here left us stunned. Here is what we got and our experience. 1. Veal stew : My husband got this and it was absolutely tasteless. The veal was tough. There was no flavor in a cuisine that has delicious flavors. 2. Potato mushroom dish: I forget the name. This dish was supposed to have portobello mushrooms, potatoes, onions, peppers. I got a dish ($28) with POTATOES. We counted the mushrooms and maybe there was 1 button mushroom split into many parts. It was 100% NOT portobello mushroom and I would have appreciated if they had told us. I am not kidding, but we laughed when we saw 1 strip of yellow pepper. The taste itself was so average that we could not believe a dish like this had been served. I would choose diner potatoes over this. And I would absolutely not have paid the price we did if I had known what the dish was like. 3. Smoked cheese bread: We double checked with the server that it was smoked cheese because we did not taste any SMOKED cheese. I wouldn't be surprised going by our main course experience that they were out of smoked cheese and just made it with regular cheese. Again, I would have appreciated being told that they can NOT do smoked cheese.

Yelp
Finally got to try this restaurant and wasn't a big fan. The ambiance and decor inside is beautiful. Our server pulled out an iPad to show us some of the dishes on the menu. We had one of the cheese bread options which was tasty, but very heavy; that was $22. We weren't crazy about the rest of the dishes. Our salad was mostly tomatoes, and I had the tomato soup already, very acidic for my sensitive stomach. My friend had the dumplings which were okay. The pear Georgian soda was fun to try, super sweet though if you don't like that.

Yelp
Had such a wonderful time here- the fresh cheese bread boats, soup dumplings and beef stew were all off the charts amazing!!! We also really enjoyed the bottle of binekhi. We can't wait to return when we're back in town!

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time and it was an interesting experience. Wanted to try something new and my family had never had the chance to try Georgian food. The food itself was very good, but there were some other flaws. Since we've never gotten Georgian food before we had a lot of questions about the menu and our waiter was not that great at explaining what everything was, so we just ordered what we thought would be good. Another problem is that every main dish is made to order, so the wait for the food is pretty long. They note this on the menu and our waiter also told us. Some people may like this that their food is prepared fresh but to me it seemed like a tactic to order more appetizers. After we waited our waiter came up to us asking if we wanted anything to start since the food would take about 40 minutes. I think that also nowadays people don't like to wait so it's kinda weird that they wouldn't prepare dishes ahead of time. We got our food after about 35 minutes but the resturant was not busy. I feel like if you came at a peak time you could be waiting a really long time. Not sure I would come back here but it was an okay experience.

Yelp
So much flavor! So fresh. It felt like a nice departure from the usual dinner options while not feeling too adventurous. My wife and I shared the most popular cheese+bread dish, Georgian salad, and kebab chicken - and it was plenty for us both. It felt good to indulge in the cheesy bread while still eating really healthy tasty food the rest of the meal. Service was professional; the restaurant spacious and not noisy even when busy. Looking forward to going back!

Yelp
I really hope this place makes it because Norwalk needs more diversity. However, I could see why it was empty now that I've tasted the food. I was looking for Persian or Turkish kebabs and found this place. The chicken kebabs are OK but they don't come with rice unless you skip the vegetables. The dumplings must be a cultural thing because they're just wads of dough with very little meat in them, but they're interesting. The real reason I'm here though is to talk about the $17 mushroom soup. The menu made it sound like it would be a hardy mushroom stew, thick and filling. Instead, what I got was barely the beginnings of a vegetable broth. It didn't even have a hint of the cheese I was promised. Overall, I spent $100 to get four chunks of passable chicken kebab meat. Everything else is going in the garbage. Very disappointed.

Yelp
The place is great. It's nicely decorated with nice holiday lights set up. The staff were very friendly and happy to help if you were not familiar with Georgian food. They have iPad menus with pictures and even videos which is pretty cool. We ordered a couple of things and they were delicious! Highly recommend it to everyone.

Yelp
Dining at Maama by Cheese & Bread was nothing short of extraordinary. We opted for the Chef's Tasting Menu ($70 per person), and it was one of the most memorable culinary experiences we've had in Fairfield County. From start to finish, this was a beautifully choreographed feast that showcased the depth, warmth, and bold flavors of Georgian cuisine in all its glory. We began with the iconic Khachapuri Adjaruli--a showstopper. This canoe-shaped bread, bubbling with gooey sulguni cheese, butter, and egg, was served piping hot and mixed tableside. Rich, creamy, and indulgent, it was the perfect opener and truly set the tone for the meal. Next came a beautifully curated cheese and spread platter that could rival the best European boards. Featuring traditional Georgian cheeses and vibrant pkhali (vegetable and walnut pâtés) in stunning hues of beet, spinach, and eggplant, it was both visually stunning and deeply flavorful. The textures and herbs were spot-on, and everything tasted fresh and homemade. A crisp Caesar salad with grilled cheese croutons provided a refreshing contrast before more traditional fare arrived, including dumplings, and a hearty stew--all prepared with precision and seasoned to perfection. The portion sizes were generous--come hungry! The grand finale was the Napoleon dessert, and it deserves its own standing ovation. Light, layered, and topped with fresh strawberries and a dusting of powdered sugar, it was creamy, flaky, and impossibly delicate. Easily one of the best Napoleons we've ever had. The service was warm and attentive without being overbearing. The staff were genuinely proud to share the richness of Georgian culture and cuisine, and their hospitality enhanced the entire experience. The atmosphere was modern yet cozy, with soft lighting, tasteful decor, and an inviting ambiance that made it ideal for both intimate dinners and lively gatherings. Whether you're familiar with Georgian food or discovering it for the first time, Maama delivers a rich, authentic experience that's rare to find. This is a place where food is a celebration--of tradition, flavor, and hospitality. We will absolutely be back, and I can't recommend Maama Bread and Cheese highly enough. A must-visit for adventurous eaters, food lovers, and anyone seeking something truly special in Norwalk.

Yelp
Everything was at the highest level. Very tasty dishes, service. I am very pleased that I chose this place to celebrate my birthday. I will come here again, because I really like this place.

Yelp
Good experience all around at Cheese & Bread, the place makes for a fun and unique dinner date. Also, great place for a holidays dinner as the restaurant is nicely decorated with white Christmas lights, a big tree, and there's even a fire place. Highly recommend the Adjaruli (bread, egg, and cheese) which they bring out and then finish preparing right at the table, the pear soda, and the tiramasu.

Yelp
Fantastic introduction to Georgian food for my boyfriend. My mom used to make some of these dishes and it was a wonderful reminder of her cooking. The Lula kebab and dumplings bright back memories. And loved the kachipuri. Can't wait to come back. And the lychee martini was delish! Really cool space and decor very nice for a date night!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I have been seeing this place in passing for months and have been talking about eating here for a while. I'm glad we finally made the choice to dine in! The restaurant itself has a lovely ambiance of dim lighting with the seasonal holiday lights to add for a touch of intimacy. The servers were very observant of the placement of customers, and so everyone was thoughtfully placed evenly away from each other. The Christmas tree was beautiful and placed in a location that is observable to all regardless of where you're seated. The servers were very kind, helpful, and fast when it came to noticing when we were ready to order, when we were finished, and when we were ready to leave. What I did love the most about the servers were their knowledge in the menu. It's Georgian food (I've never had this before, but I'm now glad I have) and so I was super glad that the servers were patient in letting us know what their favorite dishes were and which were the most popular. Although the names of the dishes may make one feel apprehensive because it's not typical, do not be afraid to take the leap and try it out. Good food is an experience and a pleasure that makes life richer. I'm glad I found that experience here.

Madison W.

Yelp
The appetizers were absolutely amazing. The Georgian wine selection was wonderful and we also really enjoyed the soups and salad- specifically the Caesar and the beef & rice soup.

Yelp
FANTASTIC FOR VEGETARIANS! I came here for lunch with a colleague from work. I don't recall ever having been to a Georgian restaurant before, so I didn't know what to expect. The food was excellent. The lunch vegetarian pre-fixe lunch menu was very well-composed. Each dish was excellent and very flavorful. I also got the sense that all of the dishes were being made fresh. The wines were also great. The restaurant has a wine tasting flight, and our waiter was very knowledgeable. The ambiance and service were also both excellent. The hospitality was phenomenal. Expert tip - try the dessert wine. Terrific. I will absolutely be coming back. In fact, I just now made another reservation for a couple weeks from today. One more expert tip - the area can get busy, so you may want to take public transit so that you don't need to scramble for parking. But, if you do park, there is a paid parking lot (not too expensive) nearby in case you can't find metered street parking. One final expert tip - try the honey cake dessert. Amazing.

Yelp
Great service and a really great and interesting wine list A beautiful corner setting with floor to ceiling hg windows. Loved the appetizers we had. Will return for sure.

Yelp
First time eating at C&B and we were not disappointed. I had previously dined at a Georgian restaurant in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and was hoping it would be as good. We ordered the bread and cheese, dumplings, tomato salad and lamb. We thoroughly enjoyed every bite. As if all this food wasn't enough we ordered the cream puff which was divine. The service was outstanding and the location on Washington Avenue was charming. We walked after dinner and window shopped. Every item on the menu looked delicious so we will be returning soon. We wish you much success.

Michael L.

Yelp
Our first time at a Georgian Restaurant and we were excited to try the various dishes they recommended. The staff was friendly, professional and experienced with the menu and able to guide us through the different courses. The service was first rate and the food expertly prepared and extremely flavorful. Will definately be on our list of favorites

Yelp
classic authentic Georgian cuisine. First Georgian Restaurant in Connecticut Cheese And Bread love it

Yelp
Do not get intimated by the cuisine of this restaurant - Georgian (the country not state). The staff is proud to tell the story of their food and the food is excellent. The servers are quiet and professional. We went there for lunch for the first time and the two of us shared the signature offering of hallowed out bread filled with an unbelievably good mix of cheese and egg. We also had pork kabobs that were seasoned and cooked perfectly. There was enough food for four and this restaurant is made for sharing. Add a great bar and that all tables have white tablecloths with nice cutlery adds to the feeling that you're dining out, not just eating out. I certainly will return for dinner and try some wine from Georgia. We are very critical of the too many sub-par restaurants around lower Fairfield County and are excited about this one. Good luck for success!

David D.

Yelp
It's very rare that I give anyone a five star rating, but it was the best meal I had in a long time, the atmosphere is great and the service was again as the meal was the best I've had in a long time. I highly recommend it.
google avatar

Jennifer A.

Yelp
I wanted to like it, but like service left much to be desired, like it's really ethnic food, and like the servers really need to be a little bit more active with explaining the food, all the flavors clashed because while we did asked for help, the server couldn't explain any of the dishes or wine, giving me an iPad and charging me NY prices don't make an experience, never going back

Jon A.

Yelp
Classy yet comfortable ambiance meets rich and interesting flavors. The pickle board is a must have (if you're a pickled provision person). They offer a tasting menu for 2, also! Highly recommend checking it out- The bar tender Giva, was wonderful at guiding us through food and drink selections as well. Looking forward to going back.

Yelp
10/10!!! Everything about this place oozes amazing. From the food to the service to the ambiance, it's definitely a sore thumb in SONO in a good way. I hope this place sticks around, it's a well needed addition to Norwalk. Their menu is Georgian centric, which is similar to Mediterranean but it's different. They have several options for each category of the menu (apps, salads, mains, etc). Their wine is all Georgian which is cool and makes this spot unique - you can't get your average sauv blanc. Our particular server was very helpful with the menu, not pushy, took time to explain everything we asked about, made his own suggestions based on dishes he's tried before and was attentive but not in an excessive way. I will definitely be brining more friends and family here!

Yelp
Absolute worst service I have had in decades. Arrived at 7:10pm; our order was taken at 7:27pm. We were a table of three adults and a 2yr old and 6yr old. We ordered drinks and food as quickly as we could because of the children. We ordered IPA, Manhattan and a white wine. After 15 minutes, The server brought a glass and poured a beer. It was not an IPA. Ten minutes later she brought the Manhattan. And then ten minutes later she brought the white wine. No idea why you can't delivery three drinks at the same time ? The food orders were taken with our drink order. We ordered khachapuri, Fried chicken Cornish with garlic sauce , branzino , chef special ribs with French fries , and FRIED POTATO WITH MEAT AND ONION "Ojakhuri". After 45 minutes , the server dropped the khachapuri on the table and said "stir". The item was good but the dough on one end was still raw. After an hour , the server running around the restaurant filming a video dropped off a bowl of fries . Another 15 minutes goes by, the server drops the chicken in garlic sauce. The bony pieces of pigeon were dried out and nearly no meat on them. Plus the "chicken" was ice cold. It obviously had been pre- cooked separately and not in the sauce. This dish is $28 and there couldn't have been 3oz of meat. Another 15 minutes goes by and none of the other entrees ever come. I called the server over and asked that they speed up the entrees for the children. We had been there an hour and half. The waitress looked at me and just walked away. My wife was facing the kitchen and could see at least 12 food tickets hanging. The server never apologized for the delay. Never came back to the table. After 1:40minutes, I asked another passing server to get me the manager. I tried to explain to the manager the situation that we had been waiting for entrees for 1:40 minutes and the server had said nothing about the delays. Unfortunately , the manager spoke very little English and another server needed to interpret for the manager. The manager only said " everyone came in at the same time at 6-7pm". I told the manager we are leaving and to provide a bill for drinks and the food that we had consumed and to forget about the three other entrees which were never delivered. At 9pm I got the bill and paid only to have been over charged for an additional Manhattan which was never ordered. I paid the $132 bill and left with my family. Sadly, I had really much higher expectations. I understand that a kitchen can be swamped and backed up. However, with absolutely no explanation from the server nor the manager, there is no excuse.

Christine B.

Yelp
Food, wine, and service excellent! If you haven't been here to try their unique and special Georgian food and wine, you are missing out! Special thanks to Givi!!

Karolina K.

Yelp
Sadly to say but they have no idea how to run a restaurant on a busy Saturday night. We waited 40min before drinks were delivered. Then another 30min before appetizers would come. Very unprofessional waitress, barely speaking English, would roll hey eyes when we asked question about our food. Ambiance is quite lovely and really wish them well but not planing to go back. Prices are way too high for this kind of mediocre experience.

T L.

Yelp
I had lunch on a Sunday with my wife and we had the two prefixed lunch menu options that included a well balanced dainty salad, a hearty tasty generously portioned soup, an entree and a soft drink. Both menu options were very good, well presented and very reasonably priced at $25 each; use of hi-tech with iPads to present their menu was a very nice touch. They might as well have allowed the bill to have been paid through the same iPad device. It was my first experience with Georgian Cuisine and I came to learn afterwards, that, like other cuisines, there are various cuisines associated with different regions of Georgia. The service was very good, server was pleasant, the ambiance was excellent, tables were were nicely dressed with linen and linen napkins, jazz music was very pleasant and allowed one to enjoy their meal peacefully and still have a conversation without having to ask your guest to repeat what was said as other restaurants miserably fail. My wife and I do not drink alcoholic drinks so it was rather interesting to see how an alcoholic drink order wasn't "pushed"/asked right upfront before the meal order was placed, since it adds to the profit margin. My only small suggestion is that we should been allowed to finish our meal courses before serving the soup and main course to avoid having the food that was prematurely served stand idle, while we finished the meal course, and subjected it to getting cold before it was consumed. Eager to go back for their dinner to try their Bronzino. I do highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
We were curious about the cuisine at this new restaurant, and it did not disappoint! Everything was delicious & interesting, and it was so nice to have a new alternative for eating out. The atmosphere was upscale but cozy! I wish them luck in their success!

Yelp
Have been wanting to try this place since I saw the sign. When I found out it was a Georgian restaurant, I was very curious. Glad I was. The food was great. Our waiter was patient and explained everything to us and gave us great recommendations from wine all the way to dessert! Go on a date or with a group of friends to try all the interesting and delicious apps and of course, cheese and bread.

Brenda M.

Yelp
This was the worst service we ever experienced in a restaurant in years. it took 15 minutes to take drink orders and another 20 minutes to get drinks, and one of them was made wrong. The main courses for 3 of us arrived 20 minutes apart, and were lukewarm. As for food itself, it was mediocre at best. I am a big fan of Georgian cuisine, and visited Georgia in my previous life. I have also been to several different Georgian restaurants in Manhattan and Brooklyn and they were great for the most part. This establishment makes a pathetic attempt to put a modern spin on classic Georgian dishes, which didn't serve any purpose - everything was bland. Not coming back for sure.

Jen B.

Yelp
I was really rooting for them. I had had a reasonable lunch there with my son so we brought the rest of the family (6ppl). First, my gin and tonic was made with seltzer. Then it took an hour and 45 min to get our main courses from the time we arrived. The salmon was dreadfully overcooked, the service was not good (but the lady last time was great). The man this time was not helpful, not apologetic, didn't check in etc. also one of the sets of silverware was filthy. The bread thing with the cheese and egg is great. The dumplings are good. I think they would benefit from someone coming and helping to train staff...

Christopher R.

Yelp
I am a picky eater that eats at Michelin rated and starred restaurants. This place is pretty good!

Nick G.

Yelp
Excellent! My girlfriend and I decided to finally try this place and were not disappointed. We had never tried Georgian food before and didn't know what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. We were unfamiliar with most of the items in the menu, and the cuisine in general, but our server guided us through the menu and was helpful with helpful with recommendations. We ordered the khachapuri acharuli and an order of the dumplings and loved them both. The restaurant itself was beautiful inside; elegant yet comfortable, and tastefully decorated for the holidays. If you're on the fence about trying this place or just apprehensive about an unfamiliar cuisine, go ahead and give it a try. You won't regret it!

Greg H.

Yelp
Just tried SoNo's newest restaurant and it was fantastic. Great interior, very friendly service and wonderful food. I can't pronounce any of the dishes but we sampled three appetizers - a delicious tomato and cucumber salad with a walnut and spice dressing, delicious cheese bread and eggplant, beet and spinach versions of a tapinade. Highly recommended .

Susan S.

Yelp
From the wine appetizers, and main dishes, I fully recommend this restaurant. Everything was delicious, very juicy and flavorful. The service was also very friendly and welcoming. They were also very knowledgeable about all of the dishes. The Georgian wine was delightful. I would definitely order it again and again. We had the cheese and bread appetizer, the dumplings with the meat filling , the chicken kebab, the salty beef stew, the lamb kebab. All to say it was a feast for our eyes. I highly recommend trying a variety of dishes at this wonderful restaurant.

Barbara N.

Yelp
Great service and good Knowledgable server who could answer questions about menu items. Georgian food and wine. Very nice ambiance. Great experience.

Ricky E.

Yelp
Delicious food and awesome staff. Entrees took some time but so worth it. Authentic food and great ambiance and definetly worth a visit.

Ann Marie M.

Yelp
If you're looking to try something new check this place out. They have been open only 3 weeks. The service was top notch, the food was delish and great background music. They also have live music on Fridays...check it out, you won't be disappointed!

Tippy

Yelp
They just opened so I give them some slack. Waiter was inexperienced. Some dishes good. Some not so much.

Sam S.

Yelp
Would give 0 stars if possible. My family and I had the worst restaurant experience of our lives in this place. Waited over an hour and a half for 3 shish kebobs. When we were told that it was going to be 20 more minutes we canceled our order. After asking when the food was coming out multiple times we were never give an answer until we had to forcefully ask, no management ever came over, food was overpriced and would have rather eaten wet cardboard for my dinner if given the option. If people ever ask me for a recommendation for food in Norwalk, I would tell them that the food court at the mall is 100x better than whatever you are going to get at this place. An hour and a half of my life that I will never get get back and I would much have rather spent the time watching paint dry. I could have celebrated my next birthday before my food came. If you go here, you might have to go and cook your own food in the kitchen.
