I stayed here with my dog to break my long solo drive from the south coast of England, heading further north in Scotland to meet up with my husband after his epic cycle ride. What a perfect place! From the moment I drove up the beautiful driveway and walked into the welcoming hotel in beautiful grounds, all the stress of the long drive just melted away. Apart from its wonderful setting and beautiful architecture, the main thing that makes this hotel so good is it's staff. They are all warm, friendly and so helpful. I felt so well looked after. And the food is absolutely delicious. As I was travelling with my dog I ate in the lovely reception room, sitting by the cosy fire on a deliciously comfy sofa. And my room was perfect and I slept like a log. I liked the place so much I returned on my way back home, this time with my husband! He loved it too! Oh, and it's really good value too. Perfect.

Great hotel. Rooms and dinner truly outstanding. Lovely staff. Breakfast was just UK. I guess the dinner chef doesn’t cook the breakfast. Stayed for one night in this gem, room was wonderful as were the staff in the restaurant/bar. Dinner was outstanding from the Xmas menu. Pity breakfast is not the same. One sausage and one rasher of bacon, doesn’t compare with dinner presentation. Shame as apart from that it was wonderful.

Lovely welcoming country house hotel in a lovely location. |Excellent service and a really excellent Scottish breakfast. |When we arrived we were offered a larger room and nothing was too much trouble. |Beautiful gardens and a peaceful tranquil area. |Highly recommend , the best place we stayed in Scotland.

A short two night break in this wonderful hotel. Two stand-out points: 1) The staff, friendly, helpful and polite 2) The high standard of rooms communal areas and grounds. The restaurant, so well run and the food was excellent, the chef obviously knows their way around a kitchen. Great hotel, deserves more stars.

Lovely location, quality food, excellent service and bedding. What more could you need?||Some of the reviews said the decor is dated which it is, but it’s in keeping with the age of the property. |The room was comfortable and clean with iron, hairdryer and bathroom amenities. ||Any yardstick for a hotel should be the sleep quality and it didn’t disappoint. Princess and the Pea deep mattress with quality linen made for a great night’s sleep.||Dog friendly though you can’t eat in the restaurant with your dog which is unusual in my experience, I was reserved a place in the reception area. My only suggestion for improvement would be to allow well behaved dogs in the restaurant during the day as it was quite isolating. The grounds are extensive and ideal for dog walking.||Overall, highly recommended for an overnight stay.

The staff were amazing — a real gem of a place in a lovely location. I was travelling back to Yorkshire from the Highlands on my motorcycle, and as time was ticking on, I decided to stay a bit further south after stopping to refuel. I phoned ahead to enquire about a room, and the lady at Mabie House confirmed they had availability. I mentioned I was about 45 minutes away and asked if it would still be possible to check in, as it was around 8:15 p.m. She assured me it was no problem and even asked if I’d like some food on arrival. I eventually arrived at about 9:30 p.m. after being delayed by a road closure. I was warmly welcomed and checked in by two friendly young ladies, who kindly offered to prepare a sandwich and some chips since I hadn’t eaten since breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble for them. After a great night’s sleep and a hearty breakfast, I was back on my way — once again helped by more cheerful and accommodating staff. A wonderful stay — highly recommended!

One of the best hotels I have stayed in for quite a while. Fantastic rooms, spacious, great decor. Great staff, friendly, relaxed, don't stand staring at you in the dining hall. Wonderful setting for casual strolls or if you wish, long hikes into the forest areas connected to the hotel. Highly recommend.
