Came to Marseille to see the Olympics. And after watching a game on the coast, I took an Uber to the museum and was too astonished by the window walls. Although it was nearly closing time, the staff were very nice and helped me buy a ticket. Dangling my legs on a stone stand outside the Musée until one of the staff members came to let me know they were closed.

A brand new renovation for the MAC museum in Marseille. A place with a structure that enhances the works on display. I was only able to see the permanent exhibition, but it has some very interesting works, particularly on local artists which is essential. The staff at the entrance are very welcoming and the museum is free. One detail that is a bit complicated for me is that they don't have a really dedicated website, it's a site that groups together all the museums in Marseille and so it's more difficult to get information. As far as I'm concerned, it wasn't until I was there that I realised that the museum was closed for the installation of the exhibition. I find this a bit special because all the museums I've visited have the option of closing their spaces for new exhibition and leaving their permanent collections open to the public. I think that for a place like this, and if it wants to continue to evolve, this might be necessary. The entrance through the park is a bit sad, with homeless people sleeping a few metres away from it. That said, it's a place you shouldn't miss if you're in Marseille.

Great collection. The Museum is a little bit far away from the city center, but can be reached with public transport. So if you are in Marseille and you like contemporary art, then I would recommend you to visit MAC.

This charming museum is relatively small and it's quite far away from the Metro or a bus stop. The permanent exhibition is always free while the temporary exhibition (Parla Pivi's "denim walkways") cost me 6€ to have a go. Don't forget to visit the Château Borély : Museum of Decorative Arts, Earthenware and Fashion which is 15 minutes away on foot.

Visited in July 2024 - pleasant and interesting for the whole family. My 2-year-old was fascinated by some of the industrial art pieces and colors

Nice permanent collection of modern art, but very much the usual suspects: no surprises. No café, no shop, nice little sculpture garden in the back.

It's free, so it's accessible in that sense.  But oppressive security (gallery staff reinforced by contract heavies, why?) militates against a relaxed, interactive experience. And the display itself does too, rather: Art with a capital A in long rows down a long series of rooms. Each room offers an arty-bollocks introduction:  'Matériaux', 'Sujets', 'Réalités/Fictions', which I found quite divorced from the surrounding art works. Still, there are a lot of impressive pieces; more history of contemporary than actual contemporary: the César compressed car, the Valley curtain, Jumping Rope by Jacquet (uncomfortably echoed by the busy mable floor - there is some clunky curating here, a fine 3D ceramic by - very contemporary - Ghada Amer huddled into 2D against a wall, labels often impossible to link to their target works). Anyway, well worth a visit, an easy bus ride from Rond Point du Prado métro, or park in the shopping centre across the road. Don't forget to stroll in the park behind - there is some good sculpture.

Really worth a visit. The temporary exhibition about drawings was already great. The permanent exhibition has some classic works from Marseille and beyond. And it's only 6 euros.
