Maçarico Beach Hotel

Gets progressively worse the more you look around and start taking in everything. Starting at the main attraction, the rooftop pool is filthy, small, and out of date. The jacuzzi had visible lines of dirt around the water line. Also the hotel requires wearing swimming caps in these areas which just seems weird. The sauna did not get up to a true sauna temperature and the steam room smells absolutely awful, like truly could not sit in there. the shower room or whatever it’s supposed to be does not have showers. There’s a hanging cold plunge bucket and that somehow didn’t even seem to be as cold as it should be. The gym was by far the smallest hotel gym I have ever seen, it had maybe three things in there in total. Calling it gym seems like a stretch. Every single amenity was damaged or unusable. Further there were kids all over the place taking away any relaxation of the spa areas. The rooms themselves are fine however do not meet the expectations of a four star hotel. Weird glass wall between room and bathroom and outdated and cheap looking decor.

My husband, daughter and I had a very enjoyable 2-night stay here, during our August visit to Praia de Mira. There was a bit of confusion at check-in, as we thought we had indicated a child with us (on Booking.com), but reception said no and we had to pay a bit extra for a cot. The boutique nature of Macarico felt intimate, yet somewhat decadent (after staying with family & a Holiday Inn). Lovely and fun "themed" décor, very comfortable room, excellent amenities, friendly and helpful staff, nice breakfast, and quiet! LOVED the heated pool; 12yo wanted jacuzzi to be hotter, but you couldn't increase the temp. Great view of beach; you really feel like you're right there in the heart of things. Just the right atmosphere for both adults and kids to enjoy. The only "issue" was that the elevators continuously were not working... Not a big deal for us, but would be for someone with compromised mobility. And, of course, it would be nice if it was a bit less pricey! ;)

Room was quite basic but location was perfect, parking was easy, and staff was helpful and pleasant. Very nice included breakfast in a pleasant dining area. The pool and spa looked nice but we were only there one day so didn't use them. Great ocean views.

We stayed here recently, very shabby, chips in furniture, leaky shower. We gave them our feedback - no response. This hotel is expensive but not worth it. My wife wrote to the. and gave them our feedback because they asked - they ignored it and did not respond:- Good Good Morning, We have lived in Portugal for 7 years and travelled extensively in Portugal and stayed in a lot of hotels and apartments - we love the country and people. We stayed with you because we were attending a 70th Birthday party nearby. The price of the room (130 euros) was more than we normally pay and I must say we were very disappointed. The room was shabby with a lot of chips in the furniture which made it look second rate.. The shower flooded the bathroom and this had obviously happened several times before because the the bottom of the cupboards in the sink area were badly water damaged. Our view and terrace was surrounded by ugly concrete buildings and gas bottle - we could hardly see the sky. I know we hadn’t paid for a room with a view but we didn’t expect this for 130 euros. The hotel is nice and clean, its location is in front of the beach, In the room we did not find a refrigerator and a place to make coffee even though we were told there was one in the closet. The back rooms have a balcony, a tiny one suitable for one chair, There is no way this hotel is 4 stars in my opinion barely 3.

Nice hotel with good location. I think it was overpriced. We paid 150 euros for one night. The bed was uncomfortable. Toilet door wouldn't stay closed. WiFi was good. I wouldn't go back unless it was a lot cheaper.

The Staff at Macarico Beach Hotel in Praia De Mira is wonderful and that's why I rated 4 stars. Everyone is very nice and professional, also very helpful. However the hotel needs a few things to change. The room has a glass bathroom with a sheer white curtain. No privacy to use toilet. Showering isn't a big deal but myself and boyfriend felt uncomfortable using the toilet to relief our stomach. We had to leave the room or sit on the balcony while the other was on the toilet. Also there was no shelf in the shower to put soap, shampoo or shower gel. The balcony needs a screen to prevent mosquitoes from entering the room. We wanted an ocean view with a balcony so we can hear the ocean while sleeping. But mosquitoes came in because of no screen door. The hallway needed more lights, was dark in the night. Also the breakfast was not the best. Not many options. A few pastries and the same watery eggs with mushrooms. I was not impressed with the breakfast. Also the laundry service was very expensive. I wanted 2 jeans and 4 sweaters to be washed in cold water. They charged 31 Euros. After that I had to look for a Laundromat and find time to wash clothes on my vacation. We were there for 13 days and I don't like to have dirty clothes in my luggage. One of the reasons why I chose Macarico because they offered laundry service, but I was not aware of how expensive it would be to wash a few pieces of clothing. I paid 10 Euros to wash and dry a load of clothes at the Lavandaria 5 minutes away from the hotel. The pool is small and so is the gym. I didn't have the chance to try their Spa. Overall I would not recommend Macarico Beach Hotel in Praia De Mira nor will I stay there again. Look into an Airbnb or different hotel.

I wish they had the same degree of detailed thought on the service they give as they do with their somewhat kitch design, |Room had grim view but then you can book a sea view , we were on a bike trip and the operator did not book that but would still have been dire.|Room smelt of sewage and quilt too small didnt cover the bed when in it .|Shower water didnt run away in shower as fall was wrong so had to stop shower and push water down with foot to stop in overflowing into the bathroom.|Broken toilet seat and bathroom fan didnt work .|Bascially one women dealing with reception and bar . We waited and waited to order a drink at reception but people checking in took too long so we went out for drinks.|We asked why there wasn't any staff and two of our party got two different excuses , one was that it was first day back at school and lots of staff were off and the second was that they were all having their 15 minute health check up in the van parked outside !!!! There were additional staff in the back office but interested in serving guests.|One positive was they had secure parking for our bikes with charging points . Hence 2 stars.|We stayed in 10 hotels in Portugal and this was the worst by a country mile.
