We stayed in the Bethan. ||Basically it’s a small wooden black box behind the village shop, with a view to the sea. But incredibly well designed, very comfortable, and with the extra distraction of watching various rabbit families frolicking in the field outside. The table inside is a work of art in itself. Huge windows give a feeling of space. No TV but decent wifi. A really fantastic place for a retreat for a few days.

We had a fantastic time staying in the Bothan in Durness. The owner met us on arrival & she was very helpful. The Bothan is a quirky container with everything we needed & the views were spectacular. Ideal that it’s right next to the shop so you can get all the messages required without needing to travel far. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a stay on the NC500 thats a little bit different.

We stayed here for a night and Fiona ensured we had a warm and comfortable night. The room was lovely and bed very comfortable. This is a great place to stay as you travel around the NC500. The breakfast more than makes up for no evening meal, which can easily be picked up locally. The breakfast was exceptional, local rhubarb and home made muesli followed by mushrooms with truffle. It was delicious.|Please put this on your route and book direct ☺️

This was by far the best hotel we stayed in whilst driving the NC500. The whole hotel has been decorated to a very high standard and the en suite was super modern and toasty warm. |Check in by Fiona was warm and friendly and she was right when she said the breakfast would be good. The granola, (which was better than anything shop bought) rhubarb compote, jam and marmalade were all home made and delicious and the cooked breakfast was equally good. |If I’m ever back in the highlands, this is where I’d choose to stay.

We stayed at Mackay's Rooms for a night a week ago. We were met at Reception by Helen who gave us a very warm welcome. The room was extremely comfortable and the fact we were able to be there with our two Yorkshire Terriers made it all the more cosy. We ordered some drinks in our room and Helen brought them up to us. We had the vegetarian and vegan breakfasts which were delicious and served with great courtesy. It was a great place to stay, super location with convenient parking just over the road. We would happily stay here again.

Really excellent B&B - a bit different to the usual with its own unique style! Very comfortable double room with a large en-suite, plenty of space etc.|Best of all was the food! Breakfast was amazing with homemade granola, cake and a wide choice of cooked dishes, including a daily special. |It’s not cheap, but so much nicer than a ‘run of the mill’ B&B. I’ll definitely return if I’m in the area again !

My friend and just completed a 3-wk trip and booked a wide variety of accommodations in Glasgow, Skye, the NC500 and Edinburgh. MacKays was one of our favs. Our rooms were tastefully decorated, quiet and the beds and shower/bath were excellent. Everything was updated yet charming and squeaky clean. Robert checked us in and helped with luggage, and advised us on dinner options. In the morning we were delighted with an outstanding breakfast of eggs and salmon, pastries and fruits - and friendly but not overbearing service. We had a chance to say bye to Fiona at checkout. Also, she was timely and patient with all my questions when I booked. Lastly, they run a store across the street that was one of the best provisioned small stores we experienced. That really set us up well for a remote section of our trip where there weren’t a lot of shopping options. Good job and thank you MacKays!

An excellent hotel in every way: a warm welcome, a super comfortable room, a lovely sitting room for a relaxed drink, plus a breakfast way beyond the best. We had no idea what to expect in the far north west, but our whole Durness stay was fantastic. We'll definitely be back!
