A perfect way to explore the island. Reasonable rates. Awesome variety, with or without basket. Friendly staff. No electric bike rentals, as they are not allowed to be rented, but they are available for purchase.

We rented from them on the island (location near the Watercolor Cafe). Big shout out to employee, Rogan. He’s one of the most charming young people we’ve ever met. Seriously. We actually chose this company because of him and even stopped by a couple times to have more chats with him. Abbey, the shop dog, was also a reason we visited!

The workers that I encountered at Mackinac Wheels Bike Store were super helpful and kind. They explained the whole process to me about how it works to rent bikes with them. I was not sure at first what to do since I was not sure how long I was going to be renting the bike for. They explained that you do not need to know how long you want to rent for it is all about when you come back. They asked additional questions like what routes did we plan on biking on the island. They can give you a different bike based on it you want to bike the hills in the center of the island or if you are going to just be biking around town or around the island. They also added on a basket complimentary! They have a tire pump if your tires get low and if anything goes wrong with your bike while you are renting from them you can give them a call and they will come to you. I definitely would recommend coming over here to rent a bike if it is close to where you are staying.

Awesome service. We showed up on the island with our own bikes, only to find that one of our fenders had loosened up on the car ride. Rear wheel had to be removed to access the bolts. We dropped it off at Mackinac wheels and within an hour it was all fixed up and at a very reasonable price. Thank you guys!

Google
Excellent service and really fair pricing. Got our bikes repaired at Mackinac Wheels during the last two visits to the island, and we were very pleased with their professionalism and customer service. Keep up the good work.

I started with the substandard bike and there truly was a problem with it. My husband switched bikes with me and what a difference! When we returned the bikes we had decided to do other things on the island. We did not ask for our money back. We did not ask for a new bike. We just wanted to return the bike and alert you to the problem. It was difficult to wade through that interaction due to the instant response of , “Why didn’t you call us. “ and “You still need to pay for the 1 hour. “ It’s a shame. We have recommended Mackinac Wheels to everyone coming over to the island for at least a decade. So, it’s discouraging that you chose to do a big write up and say there was no problem. It just furthers what was the most upsetting part of our visit to your shop, unfriendly customer service.

We had a really bad experience here, which was surprising given all of the good reviews. The workers inside were very friendly, but once we got outside, it was a different story, the female worker was extremely short with us. The helmets had broken straps and dents, no one cleaned them between customers. 🤢 As for the bikes themselves, they were in awful shape and not even good brands. No one knew what they were doing as far as attaching the Burley bike trailer, they had to go inside to try to figure out the rain cover. Most disappointingly, once we began the ride, all 3 of our 3 bikes had issues. The gears would stick and not downshift, the chain kept slipping off…. our gears were even broken on one of the bikes. When I said something about the gears when we returned, they proceeded to give that bike to the next customer without looking at it or fixing the gears! So I felt obligated to warn the next customer to request another bike! There was no apology given, no offer to fix it or discount was offered. I’m not sure what has happened since all the good reviews but I would try any other bike rental company on the island before going here!

Staff was helpful and ensured we had good fitting bicycles. More than fair pricing for our rentals

Yelp
bikes went, wheels were round, had fun! we went around pretty slow, quite a few people out even in a wednesday lol. we were certain that we could've beat the bike shop workers if we tried, they did not believe us, maybe we will have to come back and break their records

Yelp
Part way on our trip to Mackinac Island from Pennsylvania we realized the rear wheel fell off one of our bikes. We called Mackinac Wheels and explained the situation. They told us to bring the bike and they could probably get it fixed up. We arrived at 4:00pm and by 6:00pm Pete had installed an entire new rear wheel assembly. The cost was very reasonable for the parts and work that was done. I would highly recommend Mackinac Wheels and especially their mechanic, Pete. Thank you for the great service.

Yelp
The bikes were in good shape and they get you out fast but they fail to go over pricing with you. They do how ever offer a veteran and military discount which make it way more affordable than the rest of the island. I recommend this bike rental for your island needs. Just make sure they go over prices with you first and you understand the cost

Yelp
We asked a local which bike rental shop they would recommend, and they recommended Mackinac Wheels Bike Store without hesitation. Not only did he recommend it because it's a great company, but also because it is the only locally owned bike rental shop around. We always prefer to shop local! We were so grateful for this advice because it turned out to be an excellent bike rental experience! First, we loved that the shop is a little off the beaten path so that it is not swarming with tourists. As a result, we got immediate and helpful service from the friendly and helpful workers. The staff were super helpful and answered all of our questions. We were so thrilled about how quick it took us from arriving to leaving on bikes. Quick, easy, and welcoming service! One of our favorite parts was the payment plan. The bike rentals with necessities like helmets are $15 per hour. However, they have flexible pricing by up to 15 minutes. As a result, since we only rode for an hour and a half, we only had to pay $45. What an incredible deal! This flexibility in pricing alone is a reason to prefer Mackinac Wheels over other bike rentals. We loved our bikes. I had the bright turquoise blue bike and my spouse had a navy blue bike. These colors made them easy to find when we stopped at popular pull offs, like the Arch overlook. The bikes were comfortable, catered to our heights/needs, and high quality. We could have ridden them all day! And most importantly, the bikes helped us to have a wonderful experience on Mackinac Island! We did the entire perimeter route of the island, stopping at the Arch, the northern most point of the island, the British Landing, Chimney Rock, Devil's Kitchen, and other photo worthy spots. We were able to do it all in an hour and a half! When we got back, the drop-off was as smooth as the pickup. The staff sent us off with a kind word and advice for the rest of the day. All in all, our experience with Mackinac Wheels was extremely positive. If we are ever back on the island, we will definitely do our rentals through Mackinac Wheels again! Don't get stuck in the tourist traps, head over to Mackinac Wheels today!

Yelp
HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL ATTIDUDE TOWARDS CUSTOMERS! -had to yell it just like he yelled at me. Quick repairs and fair pricing that can't be argued with. However yelling at a customer infront on your store and creating a big scene is highly unprofessional! Will not be giving them any extra business or returning to this shop.

Yelp
Staff were friendly and efficient checking in the crowd from ferry. Rented the cruisers and were happy with the comfort of ride. Hubby loved the cushy seats. I like my tires at max so asked for extra air in tire and they quickly accommodated w no questions. Price wasn't cheapest on island but preferred to start outside the packed ferry unloading area.

Yelp
We chose this bike rental over the others because it was close to our place. Friendly staff and they even had a cheap pair of gloves because it was cold outside right next to the register. I love that they had a dog outside! It was a great bike and we had no problems with it. Went around the island no problem. They were able to set us up with a bike quickly and we did not have to go into town and wait like other places would have been. ~ Prices are the same pretty much everywhere~ If you are concerned about a flat there are a few places where you can refill your tires around the island.

Yelp
When we got to Mackinac Island almost the first thing we saw off the dock is hundreds of bikes to rent. Not being fans of crowds, we chose to walk a few blocks east to Mackinac Wheels to rent bikes. They have a good variety, though perhaps not as much quantity. We got there a little after 11:00 and chose two of the last men's mountain bikes left. The service at this point was important, especially as they swapped saddles for my wife so that she could ride comfortably. When we returned them, I was again impressed by the check in decision to pro-rate the final hour, particularly not to charge for the time we waited in line. That's good business. We're very likely to come back in the future, and we'll most likely come here to rent bikes when we do.

Yelp
I don't want to effect their rating so I gave it a high rating because I give props to people dealing with lots and lots of people. Especially a melting pot of people visiting the island. With that said,... I hope this reaches the business owner of this shop, what is going on with your employees? All of them were either crying or whipping bikes around like they were going to hurt someone. We were patrons that spent well over $100 on baskets and horns and they had a fit we were parked out front installing our bike horns. A word of advise to the owner. You are renting bikes, day in and day out, maybe come up with some solution so your employees can do their jobs to the best of their ability. No parking out front? Put up a sign, paint the curb, do something to fix that problem. No room in your shop? Have an in and an out door... employees sad and crying? Something is seriously wrong here. I hope you can figure it out and fix it because the charm of the island is just disappearing and we need the good businesses to hang on. I can't pin point the issue but something is majorly wrong here.

Yelp
We had an excellent bike rental experience! Avoid those overcrowded rental places in the middle of downtown and walk just past the marina to find this great place. Super friendly and helpful staff, nice bike selection, and reasonably priced. We paid $45 for 3 bikes for an hour and a half rental, which was enough time for a leisurely ride on the path all around the island. Included free baskets, free helmets, and free maps if you want them. One bike had a chain fall off and just as promised we called them and they sent someone right out with a replacement bike. Watching other bikes go by we could see that ours were in much better condition than most. We are so happy we decided to do this! Fantastic experience.

Yelp
Rented and rode bikes halfway around the island to Silver Birches with my husband. On the way back my pedal fell of the bike completely. As a result I fell down and get somewhat banged up. In the process my cellphone (the only one we had with us) fell out of the basket and into the shrubs near the path. We did not realize at the time where the phone went but it left us unable to call for help. I ended up limping the bike several miles back to town. The next morning when I went to return the bike, fully expecting some type of compensation, the young girl shoved the receipt in my face stating very unapologetically "we gave you our number it's circled RIGHT HERE, since you did not call us NO REFUND." Again, my phone was lost in the crash that your bike caused. So even if I had my phone, what then? I wait an hour for a new bike to get ridden out to us that I could barely ride with my banged up knee? The bike was hardly worth the $95 spent, some young employee was rude and condescending, so no thanks on my repeat business, I'll limp on over to another company.

Yelp
Over the years, I have used their services for minor repairs on our bikes. The last time we were there, my wife wanted an accessory put on her bike. I said that I could install it myself, but one of the workers helped me with the install. I even showed him I near a little trick during the install. Old guy knowledge being shared with the younger generations. Lol And the shop dog, is legendary!

Yelp
Four bikes rented early August. Good but not great selection. Nice to be away from chaotic downtown. Very helpful swapping out bike for son when chain came off gear. Would highly recommend biking around the island, clockwise and counterclockwise.

Yelp
Great friendly service and nice bikes! If you are coming in on the ferry it is just a short walk to their location. Pick up and drop off was quick. Would definitely rent from them again!

Yelp
My favorite bike rental place on the island! Great service and selection of bikes. What really sets them apart is they both sell bike accessories and service bikes, many times for free on simple repairs to private bikes. Everywhere else are just rental shops. They also have a free air pump in front for topping off your own bike tires if you brought one. Rates are reasonable and done in rounded quarter hour increments. They have lots of bikes, but can run out of some styles on busy summer weekend days. If you aren't sure which of the many Island bike rental places to checkout, you can do a lot worse that Mackinac Wheels. Tip: take the free bike baskets they offer. They take 5 seconds for them to install and they are well worth it for any around the island trips. Perfect for carrying water bottles and/or purses to keep your hands free for biking.

Yelp
I don't write bad reviews unless I feel cheated and this time I do. Let me preface this by saying my wife and I have rented bikes from this store for the past 5 summers so we're loyal customers. But now I find out there are new owners and with a transient work force it's hard to maintain the kind of quality you once had. We rented 2 bikes for what we thought was a 24 hour period but what we're quoted was the overnight price We actually were only about and hour over the 10 hour rental but got charged an extra 4 hours for 2 bikes, about the cost of one bike rental. Yes we were late but last year they let it slide. When we left the shop on our initial rental we had no sheet or receipt to tell us what time the bikes were due back or any list of safety issues or contact if the notes get stolen. In addition they're price points have increased substantially and they are now one of the most expensive bike rental shope on the Island that I've seen. We even stopped by at 8 am to check in and they were not open. Basically our rental fee was almost doubled due to disinformation I have worked in bike shops in mechanics and in sales for 20 years so I know when a bike is out of adjustment and not fitting well...and both were true for my and my wife's bikes. I should have said something before I left but they were busy so we just took the bikes. I actually embarrassed fort the mechanics because these bikes should probably have not been out. Now i hear its new owmership...should have stuck with the old guard who moved up the street. Apparently new ownership doesn't always mean better.

Yelp
Had a great experience and were the cheapest bike rental rates on the island. Staff on hand were great and got us bikes quickly! Bikes made the island experience so much better than if we had just walked around. The place is a bit of a walk from where the ferry drops you off but the price difference is worth it and in any case, you'll be doing a lot of walking on the island. Thanks again folks!

Yelp
Really enjoyed our experience. Staff was so nice and accommodating. Easy to get in and out. Bikes were good quality. Prices were good. Definitely recommend. Don't forget to pet Abby the good doggie.

Yelp
I had 2 good experiences in one day! Unfortunately for me, they were repairs to my bike. But they were quick and accommodating.... surprisingly they were very reasonably priced. I would be happy to do business with them again.

Doree K.

Yelp
A broken spoke is an easy repair, but it took the lazy staff a full day to do it, after first saying it would be an hour. They were rude and bullying. Then when we got the bike back, the wheel reflector immediately fell off and shattered. They admitted they moved it, but couldn't replace it because they didn't have a new one. A bike reflector. At a bike shop. Then the brakes were so tight they were constantly against the wheel, so we had to go back to have them readjusted. Do these people know what they're doing? Not much to choose from on the island, which is probably why they think they can treat people this way. But if you can find someone else on the island to fix your bike, do it.

C H.

Yelp
Matt fitted us to bikes that were perfect for our little picnic ride. He was quick & thorough -that got us in/out on the road in 10 mins to enjoy our day. Thank you Matt for making that as painless as possible.

Yelp
Friendly, efficient service and reasonably priced bike rentals. I got to rent one of their bikes out while visiting Mackinac Island over Labor's Day Weekend at the price of $7/hour (pretty standard). The staff was very accommodating with my request to obtain a small frame bicycle because I was cursed with a long torso and a pair of short legs. Considering there were many other bike rental shops around, there was no wait at all - I went in, provided my information, and came out with a shiny red bicycle and basket in less than 5 minute. The bicycle was surprisingly comfortable and was equipped with 7 speeds. Interestingly the bikes there did not come with locks - but then again, everyone was renting a bike on the island. After roughly 2-3 hours later I returned the bike and paid less than 20 bucks. The check out process was also very smooth. I would rent from them again if I ever return to Mackinac Island.

Yelp
This place is awesome! Replaced my broken seat in about one minute. Gave great advice about biking the island too!

Mike O.

Yelp
Fast & friendly service at a more than fair price. Highly recommended for bike repair.

Brian C.

Yelp
Dog friendly. Staff was great on a crowded 4th of July week. Was able to tow dog in buggy behind bikes with no issue. Check out and back in was easy. Thank you to the owners for being pet friendly.

George Z.

Yelp
Bad seats. What makes or break a rental bike is comfort. Mac Wheels offered a good German bike at a reasonable price. The problem was they only came with one style seat, and it has to be the most uncomfortable seat (for a guy) there is! My ass and stones were sore not three minutes into the ride. Had to make frequent stops just to keep the blood circulating. Mac Wheels, PLEASE consider getting those wide ass comfy seats that the other Main Street rentals offer.

Rebecca T.

Yelp
I needed a few parts and adjustments for my bike. The staff are friendly and knowledgable. The service was quick and the prices are good. Highly recommend.

Chris B.

Yelp
Recently visited the island for a family vacation, and thought our bicycling was over for the week when I had a major part break on my bike. Found this was the really only shop on the island which did repairs, and was expecting an expensive estimate. I was amazed when they gave me a quote over the phone. I took the bike in just before they closed, and 10 minutes later it was done and adjusted... and I was only charged $6 labor plus the part which was extremely reasonable.... About the same price I could have ordered it for at home. Looked around inside and found quality parts, tools, and accessories cheaper than I had seen off the island. I was also surprised to see "Made in USA" on many of them. Very helpful and friendly staff, highly recommended.

Justin D.

Yelp
By far the best bike rental on Mackinac island, with affordable prices! They are also the only locally owned bike shop on Mackinac island! Great staff and great bikes! They were super helpful and my whole family had a great experience! We shopped around and they were definitely the cheapest! Family and pet friendly! I really can't recommend them enough!

Yelp
Outstanding experience. My wife and I visited Mackinac Island in late June. We brought our bikes with us, some older Trek hybrids, which have always served us well. On the morning of day one my front tire developed a leak and I had nothing to repair it with, so we took the bike to have the tube replaced. As beautiful as Mackinac is, everything seems to cost 25-50 percent more than at home, so I was not happy with the prospect of shelling out big $$$$ for a new tube and labor. Imagine my surprise when the tube and labor cost me less than my bike shop at home! They also replaced the tube in about 15 minutes while I waited. They have a great selection of bike supplies and equipment and they rent bikes as well. I bought a tube repair kit and a couple of tire repair tools, to supplement the small bike pump i already owned, and they showed me how to do a quick road side repair. Well guess what, that same day in the late afternoon while we were on the back side of the island my wife's back tire went flat. I was able to repair it and get us back on the road toward town in under 30 minutes, not bad for my first emergency tube repair. The shop was still open so we had them replace her tube and rim strip (the cause of her tube puncher). Once again they did the work in about 15 minutes. I learned that my bike mechanic was also the owner, a year round local of the island who's owned the shop since 2005. The best part of waiting for the repair work to be done was interacting with the owners two very cool dogs, who are very gentle and at home in the bike shop. We will return to Mackinac Island and we will bring our bikes, confident that, god forbid the bikes break down, we can get them fixed quickly and at a very fair price.
