The Morcilla was excellent. I’d only had Irish Blood Sausage before, and this compares to the texture but the flavor is completely different. I’d highly recommend trying it out! The Patacon had a lot of different flavors going on that all worked well together. The pineapple mayo and pink sauce really stood out well and complimented the steak. I’m not sure what type of cheese was used, but it was fantastic. Very mild but rounded out of the other flavors nicely.

Macondo has authentic colombian food. Ive been coming here for years with my family, the people are always kind and welcoming. i would recommend getting sancocho, bandeja paisa, and the pan de bono sliders if its your first time. Nothing on the menu is a miss love macondo 💗.

I recently came here for breakfast with my husband. The food was so delicious and homemade. Thank you Manuela for the great service! Can’t wait to come back for the hot chocolate & Calentado!

I have to start by saying I really enjoy the food here. The atmosphere is a very inviting and the employees are pleasant. What I am disappointed in is something that I cannot wrap my head around. I normally order one empanada in addition to my other items. With that 1 empanada you get 1free sauce however today I decided to order 2 empanadas, 1 for myself and 1 for another person. I was only given one pink sauce and when I asked for another pink sauce for the second empanada, I was told I’d have to pay for it. I explained I ordered 2 empanadas and not 1 and she reiterated I’d still have to pay for it. Although this made no sense to me, “I said OK how much” and I was told $1.50. $1.50 for a 1oz small plastic container that is only filled 1/2 way with this sauce Seems quite absurd. So I’m wondering if I placed 2 separate orders would I get 2 pink sauces or would I have still had to pay $1.50 for it? Either way, based on this premise I will just continue to order 1 and sadly the business will lose out on any additional orders or I’ll just find another Business to support.

I’ve had multiple bad experiences with this restaurant over time, and I feel it’s important to share them so others know what kind of service to expect. 1. Dishonesty and lack of integrity: On one visit, I accidentally dropped my wallet with cash inside. Instead of helping, the staff claimed they didn’t see it. I asked for access to the cameras or said I’d go to the police, and suddenly my wallet was “found” by an employee. That says everything about their honesty and customer service. 2. Disrespectful treatment when picking up an order: Another time, I ordered takeout and arrived about 45 minutes later — more than enough time for the food to be ready. Instead of apologizing or giving me an update, the staff rudely told me to “wait” or “cancel and leave” if I didn’t want to wait longer. 3. Refusal to let me verify my order: When I tried to check that my order was correct before leaving, I was told that if I opened the bag, I’d have to pay and “had no right to complain.” I’ve never been treated so poorly by a restaurant. Overall, the service has been consistently rude and unprofessional, and the management clearly doesn’t care about customer experience or honesty. I won’t be coming back, and I don’t recommend this place to anyone who values respect or fairness.

This place is great. I love the menus. They’re so easy to read and colorful. Today I tried the pandebono breakfast sliders. Omg. Must try. One of the best things to ever grace my tastebuds.

The food over at Macondo tastes amazing. Their rice with breaded chicken and fries which are my favorite meals have become my to go to or to dine in orders. The waitress are friendly and easy to talk to. The wait isnt too long either as in a couple of mintues, your food will be served. Overall, my entire experience was amazing and will continue to eat here more often.

Tried this place last weekend with family. We did pickup and got a bunch of food. I got the bandeja paisa which was good and filling. I also got a pan de queso which was tasty. The chimichurri sauce was forgotten from one of the meals but other than that everything else was ok. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The food was pretty good, maybe a little pricey.

I was there and had some empanadas They are mostly fill with potatoes not much chicken they are really stingy the crust was hard in my opinion not fresh . The bread is s fresh daily but they wanted me to pay tip which I thought was not Fair since service was bad ,learn some manners how about thank you ,would like something else my name is etc.

I remember coming to Macondo years ago and after years of coming back I was not impressed. We sat at the table to eat and the service took forever. When I went to the front to get some things to go I stood in like for nearly 10 min. The people behind me were asking how long have I've been waiting. The food is overpriced and lack seasoning. The only thing I like from there is the humitas but I don't think I will be back. There are other Colombian bakeries that are way better. Not worth the drive

Uber eats Burger was freaking awesome. Large and fresh with potatoes Stix and bacon Yuca was very dry and bland Empanadas chicken and beef were small but fresh Chicken cutler with s moist and crisp Def will return

Stopped in for a quick breakfast on a Saturday. You order at the counter and they ring you up on the register. If you order something made fresh, they call you by name. Basically ended up getting everything, including bunelos, ham and cheese roll, cheese empanadas, chicken empanadas, yuca stuffed with beef, and a sweet yellow corn arepa i forgot to take a picture of. We also got a blackberry smoothie and soda. All of this for under $20. Everything was fresh and tasty. Definitely a good thing this place is not directly across the street from my house.

Let me start by saying that if you live in Passaic county you know that you have a million Colombian restaurants and bakeries to choose from. This one however, is really the best. Macondo has been around since I can remember and they ALWAYS put the customer first. Their empanadas are bursting with flavor, their $13 lunch that comes with soup or beans, your choice of grilled chicken, pork or steak, rice, plantains and salad which is really for two people is just unbelievable. Their coffee!!! Antojitos Colombianos, their chicharrón and their fast food. ZERO COMPLAINTS! But beside all of their delicious food...it's their service. They have the most amazing waiters and waitresses. They treat you like you were their family or hometown neighbor. "En que le puedo ayudar amor?" . If for some reason your order missed something they waste no time in making it up. Esta panadería es la mejor en NJ. Love them...PLEASE GO TO THIS PLACE!!! They are the best way to feel Colombian.

$2 for a small coffee? Empanadas are expensive and have very little meat . Go to Hornitos's instead, better food and prices

I'm spoiled because I know many great Colombian bakeries near me and this one was a big disappointment. Stumble upon this bakery while in the area and was so disappointed. Ordered a steak sandwich with fries. the steak was so hard that I couldn't bite into it at all. Ended up throwing it out. Had ordered a beef empanada and the filing was dry. Also took home some pandebonos and bunuelos and they were dry. Definitely not fresh.

I usually have stopped in here when in the area getting my nails done for some empanadas and/or bakery goods. Never had any problems with it being "racist" whatsoever. Yes, I speak and understand minimal Spanish - but whenever I'm polite to the people waiting on me, they are always helpful and respectful in return. It was cute when I took a menu in Spanish and the girl let me know it was not in English (for at-home orders). I just laughed and said... it's okay, I know what I like here haha Ps I love papaya shakes and she helped make this white girl the best kind. Awesome! Now I'm hungry and wish I could go - prices are great too!

1st Time I stopped by and never again. Waited 18mn for a Hot Chocolate that I never received.. ask if I can change it for a Soda and the waitress walk away without saying anything. I got ripped off $2. Left because the parking ticket will cost more. Please management teach the waitress some manners..

AVOID THIS RACIST RESTAURANT. Was there 2 days ago. Wanted to get an empananda or 2. One man was in front being waited on. 2 arrogant women behind the counter. One helping cust, the other did NOT look up at me & walked away. RUDE, speaking spanish the entire time. As the man in front of me left, I walked up to order while 2 men walked in was ignored for them. WHAT?!?! I was 1st! They continued to speak spanish (which I am fluent) & they said "ignore the white girl" again WHAT?!?! I admit I called them a few choice words & left. 3rd time Ive been there & service has gotten worse!! AND had better empanadas elsewhere! So if you want great service find another place & never know who speaks more than one language these days!!! Get some cst service training for others I wont step food in that hell hole again!

Macondo has been my go to spot for empanadas for over 13 years. A few other Colombian places have opened up around and they're all really good but this place has the better empanadas. They have a huge selection of other baked goods and lunch specials. Would deff recommend coming here for a quick bite.

The food here is amazing. I ordered delivery thru uber eats and am so impressed. Authentic colombian food. Delicious.

I can only rate based on my experience. I'm a regular by choice because the surrounding ones aren't as good as this one is. The staff are okay, not as friendly as you would expect but it's fine with me since I'm not as bubbly as most. However, the ladies have always been attentive and have gotten my order correct. On various occasions, I usually get carimañolas, empanadas, arepas choclo, or hot chocolate. I can't complain, they are delicious. Hot chocolate is consistently good and some days the hot chocolate is amazing!!!! The foods that I mentioned are typically ready by the time you order but the drinks may take while. Overall I have always had a pleasant experience here. I would recommend if you're nearby.

The place is cute and cosy, decorated with Colombian decor. I come here for their chicken empanadas not only are they huge but delicious! Wayyyy better then Banana King (paterson/passaic) also if you are not Colombian or hispanic definitely try a caribañola its also a dollar, smaller than the empanada but yummy

Have never been disappointed coming here! The food is wonderful! The reason for 4 stars instead of 5, I wish it was a bit easier for non Spanish speaking to order.

There was a hair IN my bread, it was super clear that it was cooked in there. They walk around the kitchen with no hairnets. It's disgusting.

The worst Colombian bakery I have ever went to. Not only was the pan de Yuka rock hard, the pan de queso was also. When I asked the worker if she can warm them up at least she stated "um No" At least the coffee was hot - At least if your going to me rude to your customers at least serve hot bread since you are a bakery.

I have been going here since I was a child. The food isn't bad and the price point is fine. However they always give you hot sauce and lemon for your food. This time it didn't so I called them and asked them is there was anything they could do. They laughed at me and was Idk what to tell you but I'm sorry. And kept laughing as they hung up. I know it's a small thing but the hot sauce enhances the flavor of the empanada. I understand if you would've laughed about it after I hung up because I understand it is a small thing but honestly I will never get food from here again or recommend anyone else to go here. It is super sad that people can't have enough decency to be like wow I'm really sorry however there is nothing I can do that would've sufficed.

So so disappointed today I ordered a paisa. The egg had pieces of shell and the rice was drenched in grease No avocado totally ruined my appetite. Have to say the soup was not so bad. I believe that if it's an order to go the rice should be put in a separate container so the grease from the meat and egg do not ruin the rice. Small portion for the price. I paid for a dinner plate and got lunch.

Waited 27min before we found out that they forgot our order... literally only 5 other customers here and no service. Asked the manager and gave no apologies and was extremely belligerent. After everything too the rice was cold WTF. This place is not worth the effort!

This place opened when I was in high school. I remember how small it used to be. The main owner was always very sweet and pleasant...treated everyone with such care. We used to go after high school to hang out, eat empanadas, drink coffee, eat arepas with cheese, salchichon, chorizo. The food was always very fresh, even up to now everything is delicious! Now it's a bigger place with dine in tables and a very nice typical Colombian decoration. Definitely recommend this place, especially for breakfast!!!

I come here when I can it's comfort food at it's best! The empanadas are always good I usually get them from here for family events, their yuca bread is really tasty and sometimes well get hot chocolate to go with it. Their arepa con queso is my fav with picante...Never disappoints!

Macondo is a great spot for Colombian foods and pastries the place is very welcoming and cozy. I particularly enjoy their collection of antique artifacts throughout the store. The girls at the counter are always friendly and pleasant. Food is always fresh, love the empanadas.

So I came in to get a chicken Colombian empanada and when I brought it in half and was about to put some picante there was hair. I went back to the place and showed it to the girl, she first stated I don't see what you see. I pointed to the sticking out hair and stated oh we don't make them here, so its not our fault. Another worker the. Stated i can replace it with another one ( what makes you think I want another one) then stated i can replace it with a bread. That was extremely nasty and when a customer complains, there not going to care if you bought it or made it you sold it your responsible.

Tastes like my Colombian family made it! So good! Came back twice in one week and ate more the 2nd time! Nice, clean and comfortable space.

BEST empanadas!!! I've tried a lot of empanadas and never had better than here. Same goes for the sauce they come with (for some extra $ they will give you as much as you want and I use A LOT) The other food and baked goods are yummy as well. The only reason they don't get 5 stars is because no one there speaks English, and I don't speak Spanish, so it always takes me too much time, frustration, awkward stares, and some attitude from the workers to get what I want P.S. the empanadas are worth the frustration

Love this place! Empanadas are the best as well as the hot sauce that comes with it. This place seems very family orientated and I love that about this quaint place defiantly the place to stop while you are in the area for a great authentic Colombian experience

The food isn't fresh. This isn't real Colombian food. It has no flavor at all. And the breads filled with cheese are hard

The Choclo corn bread with cheese is not the best I've tasted. Please go to Los Paisas bakery in Passaic and you will see a huge difference.

The empanadas are nice and crispy on the outside, but the filling is very bland in all types-chicken, beef, and cheese. They have a delicious hot sauce to go with them, but I always have a hard time getting extra hot sauce. I am not asking for a freebie. I tell them I will pay for the extra sauce, but they act like I am stealing from them. I won't be going back.

It was a rainy day and we had a craving for empanada and coffee. This part of Passaic has several South American restaurants bunched together on Main, and on impulse we wandered into Macondo. Pleasant little bakery that also serves savory Columbian specialties luncheonette style. This food is still a mystery to me, mostly because in many respects it is indistinguishable from the cuisine and dining style of many other Latin countries, except of course to the natives. Most folks know empanadas, and they do a decent one here stuffed with beef, chicken or potatoes (or some combination of these). They were fried to a nice crisp and flavorful on our visit, served with a spicy red sauce on the side, sorta like a sriracha. The chicharon was good too, if a bit chewy. We split a Fritanga Bandeja, a kind of Columbian National dish. This huge plate of mystery beef smothered in beans, rice, fried plantains with an egg on top was accompanied by Arepa (a cornmeal bread). The coffee was very good. It was a filling and flavorful meal and the tab was very modest. Could never eat this way regularly, but it was a pleasant escape to the land of Columbian comfort food.

My father went this morning for the famous "arepa e huevo". What a disgrace! The arepas were small in size and each had a little of egg inside. Furthermore, the patty was bland. A Colombian Bakery,which respects its customer, will never serve them. As a real Colombian, I will not go back. What a ripe off!. Thank you, marelvytr

I've been going to Macondo since it first opened. My family and I are faithful customers. We live over a half hour away and visit at least once a month. The meat empanadas are the most delicious I have had, the chicken empanadas are huge, crispy and delicious, coffee is satisfying at any hour of the day, and the batidos make my kids very happy!
