MACq 01 Hotel (Hobart, Tasmania) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"In the Tasmanian capital of Hobart, on Macquarie Wharf, you’ll find a long, wood-paneled building standing sentinel over the waterfront. Inside it is MACq 01, whose most enticing rooms come with balconies overlooking the docks, with the bright, modern, and understated décor having the good sense not to distract you from the stunning harbor views. A restaurant and two bars decorated in dark, sultry tones are perfect for evening drinks while you watch the sunset over the sparkling waters outside." - Tablet Hotels

I came with extremely high expectations and was not disappointed. Celebrating our 25th anniversary the staff did everything to make us feel special. From free glasses of bubbles (both at check in and in Evolve Bar) to a hand written card with chocolates in our room the acknowledgement was subtle but heartfelt. ||||The Superior WaterFront Room is insane! Huge room, incredible view and none of this "no storage space" with a separate dressing area. Yes, the open shower is a little strange but perfectly fine if you know your room mate well.||||All the staff we met were lovely. Loved hearing about the fossils in Evolve Bar, and had a great meal in the restaurant (steak and wallaby pie both highly recommended). The lounge is a real bonus and was constantly busy with people relaxing.||||Location cannot be beat, easy walk to MONA ferry, Salamanca Market and the fish and chip kiosks.||||Overall a beautiful, well located hotel, with star views and top staff. It feels luxury but not overbearing and stuffy. Unfortunately didn't get to do any of the storytelling tours so will need to return :)

Amazing hotel. We stayed here in 2020 before our wedding and again this year. The staff are extremely accommodating and the service is top notch. Beautiful spacious rooms with beautiful views of the harbor front. Lovely restaurants on site and the bar is very convenient and classy. Extremely kid friendly. Loved our trip and would definitely come back again. Don’t know why it’s not a 5 star hotel!

5 stars all the way. We're spoiled now. It would be hard to stay anywhere else in Hobart. Really lovely and obviously happy staff. Best hotel breakfast we've ever had anywhere. Restaurant and bar are welcoming. Our room was wonderful. You really do get what you pay for here.

The rooms are spacious and well appointed. The location was great as were rhetorical views of the cove. Between the bars and restaurants and the lounge/lobby area there were many places to relax. Some days it was hard to leave the building. I loved the individuality of the rooms to reflect a figure in Tasmania’s history. Aaron the master storyteller should be a tourist attraction himself. Can’t recommend the tours enough. It makes the MACq01 all the more special.

Great hotel. Hobart has a few really nice options including MACq01 and then Henry Jones and so wanted to experience MACq01 this time around. Amazing location, great vibe and spacious well equipped rooms and bathrooms.

First time in Hobart and was celebrating my birthday. The hotel staff made it extra special. From the thoughtful recommendations Adrian on restaurants ( front staff ) and Xu at the breakfast who was friendly and charming to the card and chocolates I received at the knock on my door . Jess gave us an interesting and amusing story tour. Hobart has so much to offer and macq 1 is the place to be. So strategic in location.

This was our second stay and before our departure we were already planning to return again in the near future. MACq 01 is a stunning hotel that has everything you could possibly require, it's immaculately maintained with premium quality bedding and facilities. We slept really well, the room is generously proportioned, quiet and the mini bar had great options for snacks and beverages. ||||The location is another plus, you can stroll to Salamanca markets, to the ferry for MONA, sea plane flights, numerous dining venues and bars and art gallery.||||The team at MACq 01 is professional, warm and caring and the dining options and experiences are another reason to book this hotel.

Everything good so far - except service at reception desk and at the Evolve Spirits Bar. I must admit that I travel frequently around the globe - but this was the worst experience for years. It is an entrepreneurial concept of offering NO service due to young, inexperienced and uneducated staff, which can be still quite arrogant. The concept behind is clear: pay as much as you can and let us offer as less as it is still somehow executable. Sorry - not with me. And I am quite sure- there won’t be any word of excuse or regret. Yelp
This hotel is located on the harbor and is within walking distance of lots of shops and restaurants in the harbor area, as well as the Saturday morning market. I highly recommend requesting a harbor view room, the sights and sounds are lovely. This hotel offers history tours and every room has a tribute to a historical person of Tasmania. The lighting and decor create a modern and darkly elegant atmosphere. The room was very spacious, with a large bathroom that had heated floors in front of the mirror. There was a bathtub and separate shower and a very large closet area. They offered all amenities you would need and had a nice selection of snacks and drinks, and the bed was very comfortable. This hotel has a downstairs restaurant as well as a tapas restaurant located right next door. They offer a exercise room as well as a self serve laundry or hotel dry cleaning service. But the star service at this hotel are the people. Everyone we met was amazingly kind, attentive and helpful. That service made this a 5 star hotel!

Yelp
We arrived in Hobart in the middle of summer and stayed at the MACq 01 Hotel. I was stunned by the beautiful layout and architecture that really blends characteristics of the wharf but also that of the natural environment of Tasmania. Walk into the lobby and you'll instantly understand what I'm talking about! There's a beautiful lounge area that allows for guests to grab an afternoon drink. Order from their bar menu and you can get some incredibly savory treats. The charcuterie board was my favorite. Their wine lists feature a lot of local wines and Tasmanian wine is among the best. After checking in, you can take the elevator upstairs to your rooms. Unfortunately they don't air condition the public space but they keep the windows open on both sides. That allows a breeze to come through on either side. However once you step into the room, you can control the thermostat yourself. Each room features a Tasmanian individual. Read about their biography on your door and familiarize yourself with some Tasmanian history! Inside, the rooms are modern, spacious and comfortable eliciting the same response you probably had when you first walked into the lobby. Love the wood they use to decorate and really makes you feel at peace as you stay there. The tap water is safe to drink and much better tasting than anything you can get in the US! The hotel itself is just a 10 min walk to the Salamanca market and about a 15 min walk to anything else downtown in Hobart. There are many restaurants and art galleries around for those looking to take home some local souvenirs. The hotel is also fund raising for the bush fires so you can purchase a plush koala, wombat or tassie devil and all the money goes to charities helping with the ramifications of the wild fires. Internet is available here but really slow and difficult to connect to (encourages you to get out of your room and actually explore Tasmania). I really enjoyed my stay here in Hobart and I look forward to any future opportunities to travel here again!

Yelp
About 3 months old when we visited, this is the newest hotel in Hobart. It's worth coming here and staying a weekend. Not just for Hobart, which is awesome, but that the whole hotel is themed. It's all about the history of Hobart, with rooms themed to the different characters from Hobart's history. It's a pretty large hotel - get a room facing the harbour if you can - it's a great view. They've made the effort to have storytellers on site as well, which give you a tour of the Hobart area near the hotel - we attended one of these which was exceptionally well done. The food both in the restaurant and breakfast is exceptional, so if you are staying here (or nearby), try it out. It's also not as busy as some of the restaurants nearby (not as well known yet) so a good option. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Stayed 4 nights. Gorgeous location. Great location/view on the harbor. Brand new, modern, stylish. I love that they have free valet and that each room has a balcony. Within walking distance to most things. The rooms are beautiful and have a great mini bar. HD TV with a Bose speaker to hook your electronics up. Plenty of outlets. Super comfortable bed. Soundproof room. Friendly and attentive staff. Great food options in the hotel if you don't want to go out. Best part: They have these amazing heavy weight robes! I'm thinking of buying one to take home. Cons: The bathroom has terrible lighting. They provided a lighted mirror, but it was difficult to apply my makeup and there was no mirror outside of the bathroom that was any better.

Yelp
The storytelling tour of Hobart is one of the most amazing tours I have ever taken. Justin, the master storyteller, was a tour de force, with wonderful, entertaining stories. We could have listened to him all day! Rmeakable person, amazing tour.
