Mac’s Shack is a great spot for fresh seafood and a relaxed coastal vibe. The oysters were excellent- fresh, briny, and perfectly chilled. Shrimp and fish dishes were flavorful, and the fish and chips were crispy and satisfying. The fish tacos were served deconstructed, with the fish in its own dish and sides of guacamole, pico de gallo, pickled onions, and chopped onions in some delicious vinegar mix. You assemble the tacos yourself, which was fun, though the tortillas stuck together a bit. The only miss was the truffle fries—too oily—but the staff handled it graciously and took them off the check, which I really appreciated. I also tried the key lime pie to go; the flavor was nice, but the texture was too wet for my taste. Overall, great seafood, friendly service, and a spot I’d return to for the oysters and fish dishes alone.

My wife and I agree that our meals today were some of the best we’ve ever had (Bluefish baked with ritz cracker covering and mashed potatoes and creamy spinach with truffle oil). Our companions had crunchy crab sushi and fried oysters - excellent. Dessert was key lime pie. Perfect. Our waitperson, Miss Emma, was attentive and gracious. Sitting in the outdoor/covered patio area on this beautiful autumn day overlooking the marsh was just relaxing and lovely. A rare, memorable experience when all the pieces come together like that. Well done, Mac’s Shack.

I’ve never had a lobster roll so finally decided to try the hot one here. Pretty bland and chewy especially for $39 for the small 4oz size. My gin drink was good and the patio views are nice though. It is the end of season right now.

No reservations but they have a large outdoor waiting area that is bar accessible. Arrived at 510 and had to wait about 35 minutes. The food was phenomenal. The ahi crusted tuna was delicious and spicy. We loved the spotlight roll. The dipping sauces for the oysters were tasty.

I was visiting the cape for a few days and ended up eating here twice. The food was amazing. I ordered the East Coat Halibut the first time & the Lobster Fettuccine the second time. Pricey but so worth the money. I highly recommend the lobster mash-potatoes it’s my favorite thing on their menu. Lastly the view of the water was absolutely beautiful.

10/10, great food, excellent service. We had a server who was on her second day but we wouldn't have noticed had she not told us. To me this comes down to solid training and good management. Looking forward to making this a staple for my wife and I on future trips to the Cape.

I stayed at a B&B years ago and was sent here by the host. I try to eat here every time I visit the Cape. The newly renovated outdoor setting is a major plus! Relaxing view of the inlet. The oysters are on the small side but very flavorful and fresh. I had the fried cod sandwich too, a New England favorite of mine. This was possibly the best I've ever had. Absurdly fresh and perfect fries too.

It was okay! We were turned away for seating, arriving before 9pm on a Friday due to a 45 min wait list. We then found some seats at the bar. Both got the Ritz cracker crusted bluefish, expecting it to have a crust/crunch. It was soft on the outside and everything on the plate was mild in flavor. Mocktails were delicious so maybe that’s the main draw, here.

Had lunch here as weather was too bad to eat at Mac's on the Pier. Light lunch for me/ just a cup of clam chowder. Husband had steamers & a beer. My soup was very tasty but on the thin side. Tasted husband's steamers which were great!! Big menu including sushi, if interested . I'd go back again if in the area.

This was kind of a surprise because it seemed like literally the entire population of the cape was at this place when we walked up. Or maybe that should have been a warning. The place is nice, it has kind of chill outdoor seating with a low-key vibe and bathrooms that are basically portopotties. The only thing off theme were the prices, sheesh. We're talking $3.50 oysters (dude, you can just pick them up down the street) and $34 small-size lobster rolls (them's city prices). The oysters were very tasty. The lobster roll, being $34 and served basically everywhere in New England, has to be held to a high standard. A standard it does not meet - the meat was overcooked and chewy. The butter, rather than being drizzled atop the roll was in a giant blob at the bottom. The result was a mushy mess wrapped around rubbery meat. I make it sound worse than it was - it was not BAD, but again, if you're gonna make the same thing everyone else makes in the area, you gotta do better. I wouldn't come back here there's a ton of places in Wellfleet. Not bad, but not good either.

Good location a lot of parking nice view of the water. Lobster was good, steamed and reasonably priced because it's basically a self-serve place. Picnic tables to sit by.

What a cute little place to eat in Wellfleet right near the water. Most of the restaurants was in a heated tent with string lights in the center. This place has all of the general New England seafood. We started with local oysters which were delicious and honestly some of the best I've had. Then I had the fish and chips which were perfect for dinner. The fish was perfectly cooked and only lightly breaded. I'll for sure come back the next time I'm in wellfleet!

There are several locations in the area, but they're all great! The original is Mac's Shack in Wellfleet near the pier (no reservations, but a big bar to hang out in while you wait for a table). Their sushi is really great, but there are plenty of other things on the menu too. My favorite dishes are the spicy tuna mango martini, bang bang cauliflower (tastes like a combo of sweet, spicy, and soy), and the ritz-crusted bluefish with garlic mashed and creamed spinach! (visited 10/29/11, 8/16/23, & 8/23/24)

Excellent service from our server. Excellent food and variety. Fun outdoor eating experience. I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for good seafood that is moderately priced. The oysters were delicious and local!

The food and vibes here are incredible. I got the dumplings, tempura cauliflower, and sushi. Everything was 10/10. I highly recommend the cauliflower, it was crispy but not too greasy. And I loved the sushi roll with crab and Granny Smith apples. So good!

Consistently the best place for sushi in the area! Everyone I come to the cape I eat here. Service is always fine and not why I come. Come early for dinner it fills up fast. Parking can also be a bit hard but they do have a fairly big lot. Also love the local oysters and vignette dressing!

Not what I expected, the service was just ok the server only came by once. The shared 2 bathrooms is problematic when there is a line. The food looked better taste. The biggest issue was food temp. I had the clam chowder but it had no roux which made it more of a soup than chowder. The eel dynamite roll was good but the spicy tuna was just ok. The lazy lobster was not warm at all the corn risotto had elements of sweetness from the corn but the rice was slightly underdone so it was not as creamy as I would have liked. The lobster was tender but again just as warm for the overall dish.

The sushi there is some of the best on the Cape and the place is very pleasant in the summer. The service is great.

Absolutely wonderful food. My East coast halibut with lobster mashed potatoes in saffron lobster broth was outstanding. Flavorful, fresh and expertly prepared. The vegetables were a standout - grilled, delicious and seasoned perfectly - best I've ever had at any restaurant. Husband had broiled scallops - loved them.

Absolutely fresh and delicious lunch at Mac's Shack in Wellfleet. Despite being a local "chain" this oyster shells underfoot bayside shack in Cape Cod's historic and foggy town of Wellfleet felt unique & was enjoyable. We waited about 20 minutes for a seat, but waited in the bar, so it went quickly. From fresh local oysters, tasty grilled hamachi collar with unagi sauce, to a flavored wasabi & sesame oil flavored ahi noodle dish to a picnic-tables-under-a-tarp setting, this location & seafood (seasonally local, but also flown in from outside the area, so ask) is excellent and not to be missed. Friendly and attentive service rounds out a good casual fresh seafood lunch in Cape Cod.

Wanted to eat here because we love Mac's in Chatham but wanted a sit down experience and also some sushi. Their seating is all outside on their clamshell lot under a tent. I think they have some seating on their patio as well. I've never been inside the building. We didn't stay because they didn't allow dogs. Back to Mac's Chatham for us. I really wanted fresh sushi. Please update your yelp features saying no dog allowed. It would have saved us a trip.

Yum! Last time we were in Cape Cod we came to Mac's last. Great service and food! If you are visiting make a stop!

My husband ordered sushi and didn't get any soy sauce with his order and I ordered a kids chicken tender with fries and didn't receive any sauce. Was told they didn't have any honey mustard so I requested ranch. When we received our order we didn't have ANY sauces. Really disappointed. Food was great otherwise! Edited to note that this was a takeout order so we didn't know we didn't get the sauce until we got back home and opened the bag.

Long wait for a table and that was the best part of the experience. Took forever to place an order and even longer to get it. Food was mediocre and service was poor. Hopefully my tip reflected my feelings. Won't return...ever.

The food was well prepared and tasted good. Being that it's a new business, it was a little disorganized. Given some time, I think it'll be a great business.

Mac's, a local seafood chain's Wellfleet location, has all the typical New England seafood items you expect (and the oysters, of course) but also sushi made with local fish and lots of other specialties. Effectively, the raw stuff is what they specialize in. We got a dozen local oysters, which were clean tasting and delicious, excellent specimens but very salty compared to our warm water oysters and not as funky. I liked them, but I'm not sure as much as I do others from, say, the Pacific Northwest or even our Gulf ones, which are bigger and juicer -- they are the best raw. Rachel got an oyster Bao; the oysters fry up smaller, saltier, and not as juicy as the warm water ones -- I prefer the clams up here. We tried the scallop spicy hand rolls, which were delicious, but it was made of chopped-up local bay scallops and thus were a bit runny, I think they would have been better presented as gunkan-maki (oval), but that's nitpicky. I also got a "big kahuna" sushi presentation which had local tuna prepared 3 ways (poke, roll, filled with spicy tuna, chopped onion and granny smith apple), Rachel also got a Bahamian-style fish stew that was very peppery. Very enjoyable and sane lunch.

Arguably the best sushi on Cape, hands down. Service is flawless (we eat at the bar) and the vibe is super friendly and welcoming. The raw bar is second to none. I have been to Mac's twice this summer and Chris, the bartender has taken such good care of us. They are open until late Oct. so get there soon.

Unfortunately, to quote Taylor Swift, I didn't have it in myself to go with grace. Maybe this was an off night, and normally I'm a girly on the side of the restaurant (look at my reviews), but this some of the worst food and worse service I've experienced in a while. I hate being negative about service, but this was just weird like they didn't ask everyone what they wanted and stuff, things came late, questions about dishes were unanswered, people were skipped altogether... but we were a table of 6 so like okay maybe it was too much idk. But the food man what the heck? The clam chowder was really watery and flavorless-- maybe a bad batch. My beer glass smelled badly of mildew, not sure if that's the beer lines or a dirty glass. The tacos were extremely mid, and the steamers I originally ordered were out of stock (not holding that one against them). For the price I'd grab drinks here but eat elsewhere. Kicking myself for getting a meal here :/

Normally go to their ptown location but was in wellfleet for that night and saw they were open later, so stopped in. Cute location on the bay, they have an outdoor tent (screened in) with stone base. Gave the kale ceaser salad a try with blackened scallops and was really happy with it! (Note, you have to ask for blacking seasoning if you want it). would definitely go back!

Great spot!! We were told a table for 2 would be 20-25min but was only 10min- yay. We sat inside as it was a little chilly and we loved our server, Jodi- she was so nice and checked on us a lot. We ordered a bunch of things lobster bisque, Big Mac (sushi roll), mussels, lobster roll and scallops with gnocchi (excellent!!) everything was good but felt like aside from the scallops it was missing something? I'd still go back but likely order different items. Thanks for a fun night!

We have loved Mac's since it started many years ago. Always a treat every year, multiple times during our visits! One request: please bring back the Kung Pao cauliflower appetizer. This new cauliflower appetizer doesn't hold a candle to the old one! Thanks!

A great place to visit whil in the area! Ask for the specials of the night! We LOVED the Maki sushi special, my guy raved over the Mexican street corn and the main entree Blue Fish Tuna was Absolutely Perfect! The flip side ...the ceviche was too acidic to be appreciated and the cheesecake dessert tasted like freezer burn. Visit early in the evening! O

The hot lobster roll is my favorite among the excellent seafood dishes, and the restaurant never fails to impress me. It offers great beer as well.

Mac's Shack is awesome! Such a great location as well. I preferred the Raw over Rockefeller Oysters. The lobster was so fresh and delicious. I honestly can't wait to visit again. The staff were great and down to earth as well. A waitress even provided my partner her personal lotion to use.

Third visit; first review. Come for the oysters! Other dishes are a solid three star but the oysters are a five. Steamers were just ok. Chowder is a thin New England version (milky not creamy) which I'm sure some prefer. Decent number of clams in the chowder. Maki rolls were ok. Fish and chips also ok. I prefer seating in the main tent rather than the smaller one near the road because it has more of a restaurant feel. Service is always attentive and timing of food arrival is neither rushed nor late.

The food and drinks were absolutely delicious. We tried the halibut, bluefish, and tuna hawaiian poke bowl, and everything was phenomenal. We are huge fans of seafood and everything tasted extremely fresh and looked presentable. Drink wise we chose the Da Nang, Mac's Manhattan, and the Orange Blossom, and were impressed with the drinks, and thought the pricing was fair. Overall this restaurant has a great atmosphere and ambiance, and we will certainly be returning the next time we're on the cape!

Great seafood. You have to try Fiddlehead White Ale on tap, as good as Allagash White. We sat at the outside bar to have a few raw bar apps. Wellfleet oysters, drunken oysters and little neck clams with cold beer on a hot day. Bar tenders were great, even when they're busy. Parking is a premium and a small lot. My 1500 pickup had trouble parking, but public parking is in walking distance. Will be back for steamers soon.

Really underwhelming experience. I would describe the charred octopus flavor as burnt. The plating showed no effort. The fish tacos were not very good, and it came unassembled with the tortillas sticking together. If I wanted to put tacos together I would make them at home. Also, the rice in a scallop dish was hard, undercooked. Other reviews say the raw seafood is good, I definitely would not recommend the meals prepared by the kitchen. Service was okay at best. Dont sit inside, wasn't impressed by interior.

Lots of parking nearby! We couldn't park right next to the restaurant because it was full, but the parking lot attendant directed us to the nearby lot. Only a short distance walk away! Because my friends and I came as a group of eight without a reservation during the summer (but we came really early for dinner at 5pm), we were told to wait at least 45 minutes for a table. Luckily you can order drinks while you wait. So the overall waiting experience wasn't too shabby. Looking for some seafood in the Wellfleet area? This restaurant seems to be popular with the locals and always busy.

Unfortunate that the gluten free fried fish was tasteless. It sure needs work. The garlic fries were far too garlicky and a burger was very undercooked. Service was over the top. Fast, pleasant, and kind. Beer was good and cold! Somewhat of a beach atmosphere.

I was blown away by this restaurant! I came here for dinner with my family tonight, it took us a while to get seated but that made sense given that it was packed. However, once we got to our table the service was prompt and friendly. I got the Hawaiian poke bowl with tuna, it was delicious and the fish was super fresh. We also got the tuna collar, which honestly ended up being the favorite of the night and was probably one of the tastiest meals I've eaten from a restaurant in a very long time. The garlic mashed potatoes that come with the lobster was also mind-blowing! Truly a great choice if you're nearby, would 100% recommend.

This was outstanding. First visit, we got a dozen oysters, a cup of clam chowder, the Big Mac, the Stop Light, and the Lazy Lobster. The oysters are what they're known for, and they were great, but it was everything else that I really loved the most, especially the Big Mac (a tune poke salad on top of an incredible spicy tuna roll) and the Lazy Lobster, which was one of the best lobster dishes I've ever eaten -- so fresh, so much lobster, and so much goodness underneath. We loved it so much that we ended up going back for a second trip on the last night of our vacation, and did a few repeats (chowder, oysters, Lazy Lobster, Big Mac), but also tried the Hand Grenades and the Big Kahuna, which were excellent as well. All in all, our favorite restaurant in our first trip to Cape Cod.

I love it .. the nice guy at THE PIPING PLOVER highly recommended this spot and he was right it was great and the food was delicious and fresh, what made it more delightful was Evan the server, he was so sweet and bubbly and kind, he went above and beyond to make sure we were accommodated, but what I loved most was the fact that Evan was such an gentlemen and helped push the elderly lady closer to the sushi bar to enjoy her Poke bowl, now that's what you call a great upbringing and service with a smile. I nominate Evan for employee of the month.

Great vegan options at this local favorite. The atmosphere is awesome, though you will have to wait to be seated. In the meantime, there's always the bar area seating + counters! Waitstaff are great - enough said. Now for the food. We love to order the Kung Pao tofu (or cauliflower) and the beet poke (which has fresh, delicious flavors on sushi rice), which are both appetizers but we treat as 1/2 entree. The Thai Veggie rolls deliver, as does the steamed edamame side. (I would love to see some more inventive vegan sushi options.) Recently, we tried the Buddha bowl, which was savory, warm, solid, tahini-y. Not very summery but nice on a cool night. And the mushrooms in there are killer. Drinks we've tried: rosemary lemonade (powerful but refreshing), the beer is good, and the gin spin is dangerously refreshing and smooth.

This place is one of the best on the outer Cape...IF you get to sit outside. Sitting inside might be one of the worst experiences ever. I've eaten in nicer cafeterias. Once again DO NOT sit inside. Outside, 5 stars. Inside zero.

I feel like I want to stay positive and not write bad reviews, so I try and only write reviews for places I've really enjoyed so others don't have to sift through the bad to get to the good.....that being said, this might have been the best place I went to on the cape. It's not very often you find a place that does different genres of food well, and this place doesn't only do it well, it does them great! I was here with a larger party and everything was great. I tried rolls(one with unagi and crab and one with Mac nuts, seared salmon and crab) and they were both delicious! My wife got the halibut with lobster mash potatoes, and they were really, really good! Being from the west coast we don't get a ton of lobster so I ate waaaay to much of this! The wait staff was super nice and the outdoor tent was perfect! 10/10 I'd go back!

Compared to the other restaurants in our selections for our Cape Cod visit, this was the absolute best seafood experience all-around. Quality, preparation, variety, service, value, and beverage were all superb. They hit the spot for our seafood cravings, across the board. We had raw local oysters. We had batter-fried whole belly clams. We had a lobster roll. We had sashimi. All of it tender, perfectly seasoned, and delivered to the table quickly, with a smile. There was ample parking, outdoor seating, and decent beer selections - actually a full menu of wines and cocktails too. We even indulged with a piece of cheesecake, which was rich, well-textured, and not too sweet. And while it was a bit pricey for what we're used to, it was very reasonable in comparison to the area. And you can keep the price down if you restrict to a single entree per person, if you can stand it. We're already sad we can't go again for a sushi platter or perhaps an oyster shooter!
