Also came here upon friends' recommendation. It wasn't bad, but nothing as as amazing as at The Gathering Table the night before. We had the Butternut Squash Soup Special (I don't know why the chef thought it needs croutons.) and the Farmer's Market Salad, which was a simple salad of Spinach, Tomato, Red Onion, Orange Segments and Pistachios with a Lemon Vinaigrette. Nothing to write home about. We did get complimentary pita chips with a red pepper dip, and that was quite delish. For entrées we had the Pinot Noir Braised Short Rib with mashed potato and the Ora King Salmon with pearl pasta, julienned spinach and sautéed mushrooms with a lemon Beurre Blanc sauce. They were both very delicious, but not very imaginative, intriguing or fantastic. We opted for the Pumpkin Bread Pudding. It tasted better than it looked. :-) Service was good, but there was no extra care or attention given. (We had to ask for a Diet Coke refill twice, for example.) The whole place seemed a bit on the snobbier side. Anyhow, this place we don't need to revisit.

We visited here 5 years ago and sat in the courtyard. I was impressed with the food and ambiance. This time we sat indoor and it was beautifully decorated. Super glad they the food maintained the same quality. Chicken and vegetables were both excellent. My husband loved the steak too. Portion was big and we only ordered entrees and didn’t order any appetizers. Def the best restaurant in Solvang.

My wife and I went here last night for our 21st anniversary dinner and it was absolutely perfect. Our server was super kind and explained the menu to us. We started with the seasonal salad, which was spinach with some roasted beets and figs and pistachios. It was super good for our main entrée. My wife went with the salmon and I went with the steak Fritos. Our server told us that the duck fries were legendary and he was not incorrect. We really enjoyed our meal here and we ended it by getting the caramel crème brûlée. The service was great and we really enjoyed this place. If you’re interested in coming here I would definitely put this on your list.

The service was great and the food was full of taste and flavor. Next time we go back to Solving we definitely will be eating here. We had breakfast we plan on having dinner next time we come back. A must eat place!!

Tried this place for the first time and it wasn’t disappointed. Love their outdoor terrace and its dog friendly restaurant. From the patio I can see like a little area where there are seats and fire pits for you to drink wine and chill. Their calamari dish was so crunchy and flavorful as well as my salmon poke dish. Short rib and cheesecake were very good as well. I wouldn’t mind coming back when I visit this town again.

The duck fat fries and the beef was so good! The mushroom pasta was pretty good too. Huge portion sizes.

Had the salmon on my 1st visit and it was very good. The short rib is also very good and tender. Service was great and I would def b back. Blood orange drink was good but not strong.

Everything was great. We had the short rib, watermelon salad, green olives, and the soup of the day, which turned out to be cheeseburger soup. Surprisingly, it was really good. It even came with its own potato chips on top, which made it even more fun. The food was fresh and well-balanced, and the service matched the quality. Nothing felt overdone or fussy, just solid flavors in a nice setting. If you’re in Solvang and want a reliable, well-executed meal, Mad & Vin is a great choice. Also, get the soup if it’s cheeseburger day. Seriously!

HAVE: Duck fat fries, Calamari, Santa Ynez Burger, Bucatini and Roasted Mushroom TAKE: Duck-fat fries - hot, crispy, savory, not too salty. Just delicious! Calamari - tender with light, crispy coating. Perfectly cooked - not chewy nor rubbery. Santa Ynez Burger - is my favorite! Juicy, thick, flavorful -complimented by crispy bacon on top. The bun is soft and slightly toasted at the edge, and the vegetable toppings are fresh. The best part is they will ask you how you like your meat cooked, so you can enjoy it just as you want it. Perfect comfort food! Bucatini and Roasted Mushroom - pasta is perfectly cooked, enhanced by a touch of garlic and herbs with rich, flavorful, creamy sauce. Their servings are huge enough for sharing. SERVICE: The restaurant is on the first floor of the hotel where we are staying. We called to order food for pick-up and enjoyed it in our room. The lady who took our order was very friendly and even called to remind us when our food was ready. AMBIANCE: It was a pick-up order, and looking from the outside, the restaurant had a calm and relaxed atmosphere, with only a few tables occupied by diners.

Love this restaurant!! We sat outside on the patio and it was gorgeous. Our server deserves 5 stars. He was very kind and attentive. The 5 of us ordered the Santa Ynez Burger and I'd say the fries were a sold 5. Perfectly crispy and great rosemary/garlic flavor. We all ordered the burger medium-rare but unfortunately it was a bit overcooked. We still enjoyed it but it could have been even better! Can't wait to go back!

Great spot for dinner. We sat out on the patio. The service was amazing and food was pretty good! Charcuterie Board - 10/10: they had all my fave items on the board. This is a must order if you're going to enjoy some wine here Filet Mignon - 9/10: cooked and seasoned perfectly. It was a good size steak as well. Super tender! Mushroom Bucatini - 7/10: okay so you really have to loveee mushrooms to enjoy this dish. It has a super duper strong mushroom flavor! If you can't overlook that, this dish is not for you!

Food, ambiance, service! 6/5 stars! It's so cute and our waitress, Adriana, was wonderfully pleasant! Water was constant filled and the food was divine! Loved the quaintness of the restaurant and did I mention how adorbs it is! Fancy but not snobbish. The food!!!! Omg melt in your mouth! Flavor on point! And the cocktails- I think I took two sips and I was drunk! (I am a lightweight!) LOL! Check out the photos for what we ordered! We're here for our anniversary and so glad we did! Food was good, but a little overpriced in my opinion. The appetizers were the best, but the entree left a little to be desired.

I had high hopes for this place based off of reviews and a recommendation to come here. Went on a trip to Solvang, I love it there. So decided to try a new restaurant and was excited. Once seated we ordered drinks the luna roja but ended up exchanging it for a different liquor inside and when the drinks came back they were a completely different color, taste, and presentation. So we said something and the bartender said no this is how they always are. I wish I got a picture of the difference. Once was light pink the other was red. Plus disappointed that a place that's considered higher end picked paper straws when there are so many other recycled/environmental straws to pick. Just felt low budget. Many items we wanted to try they were out of and the menu was not marked accordingly like many places do then they are out of something. Disappointing but things happen. Just shocked how many items were out. We got Brussels as a starter. They took forever to get to the table! So by the time we can we were starving. They looked great but we're completely soggy and seemed as though they were boiled and microwaved which I told the waitress. The white sauce was legit just sour cream. Then there was another long wait for the rest of our food. The table next to us we could over hear them asking where their dessert was as and has been 45 minutes of waiting so we knew the wait for food was going to be a while longer. We got the burger and the short rib. We asked for medium and when it finally came the burger was well done/burnt. So we said something and the waitress who you could tell was already stressed from the kitchen was like absolutely it's well done I'll fix it. She was amazing. The kitchen staff clearly needed a whole lot of work. When the burger came back correctly it was definitely better and the duck fat fries were really good! The short rib was delicious!! The meat was great! The mashed potatoes were flakey and dry. Our server comped some of our food and apologized. She was very sweet. But I wouldn't come back. I was disappointed and was looking forward to good food and this was a mess. I'm not sure what was going on but this was not a good look.

Food was excellent, duck fat fries are a must. Wine selection was great. Service was on point. Our waiters name was Harrison (i believe) and he was super attentive! Definitely will be going back when we're back in Solvang.

The food was really good! We got lucky and were seated right when we walked in. The table we got was a couch and two chairs so maybe not the most comfy for dining, would be better if we were just going for drinks but we made it work! The ambiance was really nice though, low lighting and enough space between the tables so it didn't feel crowded. Our server was super nice and checked on us throughout the night. The food came out quickly and everything was really delicious. I got the salmon plate, my brother got the burger and we all finished the plates we got. It's a little more on the pricey side but it's a tourist town and upscale place so there's no surprise there. Overall great place!

We loved the cheese curd's appetizer, which was also a good portion size. The duck fat fries with aioli were excellent! The service was extra attentive, I think they were trying to quickly turn the tables to get more folks in. Despite being a little rushed, we enjoyed our meal. Located in the Landsby hotel. I recommend getting a reservation, they seemed pretty booked.

Met some friends for happy hour and loved it here! We arrived at 4 PM when they opened, grabbed a few seats at the long table. We were served waters and menus right away. I ordered the Mad & Vin Gimlet which was so refreshing and topped with a basil leaf. We split the Cheddar Cheese Curds. I wasn't sure what to expect but who doesn't like fried cheese. They were perfect to share, served with a tomato dipping sauce (menu says spicy but it wasn't) and pickled vegetables. Our server checked on us and filled our waters regularly. There are so many different seating areas from the long, family style table, a couch area, bar seating, patio tables and more intimate two person tables, so it's set up for all kinds of gatherings. The bar filled up pretty quickly and was packed when we left around 6. Happy hour is daily 4 - 6 PM: $4 off bar menu food, $3 off wine and cocktails and $2 off draft beer. Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu soon and have another gimlet!

Decided to spend the weekend in Solvang which meant our usual stop for brunch at Mad & Vin. I was hesitant given the price increase and the fact we had to pay for every side separately last time we were here. BUT I was extremely delighted to see they added the duck fat fries back to the California Benedict order and the bacon back to the brioche French toast. Thank you for listening to the customers:) Service was lovely and the food was great! Will definitely return soon!

We ate here for dinner and breakfast . I had wanted to come here for some time and i finally got to come up on a long weekend from LA. The menu is not cheap -- I expected everything to be perfect for the price point. We started dinner with a $18 glass of wine that was served at room temperature. For $18, the wine better be cooler then room temp (was probably 78 degrees inside). A restaurant of this caliber and at this location in one of the biggest wine areas in CA should know that red wine should be served at 64 deg F. For mains we ordered - Caramelized Brussel Sprouts $18 - Ceviche (fish/avocado/red onion, tomato, cilantro, hot sauce) - $20 - Santa Ynez Burger (bacon/arugula/pickles) w/ duck fat fries -$22 Ceviche was excellent. Brussel sprouts - standard. Burger was overcooked. I ordered medium, it came out almost well done (couldn't see any pink). How do you screw up a $22 burger?! For $22 it better be perfect. For Breakfast: - Eggs Benedict (bacon/avocado/tomato/hollandaise) - $22 - Avocado Toast (poached eggs/avocado) On BOTH orders the eggs were over-poached. Bacon undercooked on the eggs benny. The yolk should be runny, not cooked. How do you F up poached eggs on eggs benedict? Someone slap the cook! Do yourself a favor and phone a friend -- maybe Gordon Ramsey? The place has great potential but missed the mark on several accounts. Average service. I don't think I'd return.

Was celebrating a dear friend's birthday and had researched top restaurants in Solvang. Mad & Vin kept coming up, so I booked a reso in advance. I called ahead to let them know it was for a birthday and if there was anything that could be done for our bday girl and they said yes! When we arrived, there was a welcome birthday card on the table from the staff. The interior design was farm house modern decor and it was packed. Definitely a favorite dinner destination it seemed. Because it was so packed, we ended up waiting a little extra time to order; I think there were only 2 servers that night, but it was a Wednesday and I don't think it was expected to be that busy. Our server was really nice and did great considering he was slammed all night. The three of us ordered the Grilled Korean Short Ribs to start and they were delicious. We asked for the house bread (a grilled pita of some sort), but because the kitchen was so backed up, we didn't receive the bread until after our meal. For mains, we ordered the roasted chicken, the seasonal fish (salmon), and the bucatini & roasted mushrooms. Everything was INCREDIBLE. Just delicious, California farm-to-table dining. The staff provided a dessert of our birthday girl's choice and she opted for the Flourless Chocolate Cake and we also ordered the Banana Bread Pudding. Both were rich but we were scrapping the plates. Tips: the restaurant's located in the Landsby Hotel and I would book a reso in advance. You're guaranteed to leave full and happy!

Came here with my girlfriend and since we didn't make a reservation, we were given the option to sit at the bar area or the tables in the lobby. Caught a spectacular sunset sitting by the windows, our waiter Freddy was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and the food was amazing. We ordered the caramelized brussel sprouts and the filet mignon (so tender and flavorful), and for drinks the Copenhagen and the Pineapple Mezcalita. Overall amazing experience and 100% will eat here again next time I'm in Solvang!

Service - 10/10 While the host was not there to greet us for our reservation at 7 for around 2 minutes, a server saw us waiting and brought us the host that eventually helped get our table. When we sat down, the servers Kathy and Matthew were stars of the night. Matthew always made sure that our glasses of water were filled. His attentiveness and gentle pouring made us feel always taken care of. He was very quiet, even silent at times when pouring, however the times we did speak to him, he was very informative and helpful. He was our knight in shining armor. Kathy was our waitress and she was very kind and also just as attentive as Matthew. She even chatted with us for a bit once we got our cheques. She was very funny and relatable. I would be happy to dine here again. Note, there was a tiny spider that was hidden under the bowl of soup we ordered and we killed it. Kathy was very apologetic and took care of the cloth napkin once we informed her of its existence. Please note that this was not her fault and was likely a small oversight by the dishwasher or something. To be clear, this review was specifically written to call out how amazing the service was. Genuinely made my night, and if Kathy is reading this (or the manager), the three girls that made jokes with you at the end of their dinner appreciate and love you. Kathy and Matthew, I hope you get promoted. Hugs and kisses. XOXO Food - 10/10 We ordered the flat iron steak, the short rib, and the chef's daily special soup. The flat iron steak had duck fat fries, salad, and of course the steak. The fries were good, long and our servers gave us ketchup to go with it. The salad and the steak were delicious and complimented each other. It was $48. The short rib was filling and the meat was falling off the bone. The mash potatoes were really good no complaints. Definitely made for more than 1 person and it was $40. We weren't aware of the chef's daily soup until our servers informed us of it since it wasn't on the menu. Matthew told us the price ($16) and he said it was good so we ordered it. The soup was delicious and a tiny bit spicy, and for the price it was worth it. We also got free pita bread. Ambiance - 9/10 At the entrance it felt casual, almost like a party was going on at the bar. While we were waiting we noticed how aesthetic it was but we were slightly confused. When we walked inside we were pleasantly surprised at the fact that it was a candle light dinner! The place was calming and the chairs were comfortable. You had the option to sit outside but we chose not to. We liked the background music too. It was at a perfect volume and we loved the variety it played. From Faye Webster to The Smiths, I felt like I could hum along while also maintaining a conversation with someone. While there were things that would originally compel us to rate this establishment lower, the service was genuinely so amazing that five stars was literally mandatory.

Great service - they even let us sit in their "bar area" which included the opposite side of the lobby so we were able to try the bar menu without our toddler bothering anyone. Loved the Ceviche. Very fresh fish and a nice presentation. Korean Short Ribs were Korean style, but I would have liked more sauce. Very tender meat and a delicious slaw. Sliders are the best thing here - highly recommend. The fluffy brioche bun is great, and the patties taste dry-aged - they're so savory. A lovely place, an enjoyable meal, generous portions for the quality of food. I wouldn't bring young children into the main dining area, but the bar is great for a more lively group.

We headed over to Mad & Vin for Sunday night dinner while staying in Solvang. We were served by Alejandra who was friendly and attentive. We stared with a couple of dirty martinis and the farmer salad. Both were delicious. For our mains we got the mushroom pasta and the roasted chicken. Honestly, I've never written a review for a chicken dinner before, so you know this one has to be excellent. It was so good that I asked our server how it was prepared because my chicken at home is always significantly more dry. She told me that they brine it overnight, roast it in the oven, and finish it in a skillet. Way too much work to do at home but man it was the best chicken that I've ever had. The best meal that we had in Solvang.

Came for dinner after a long day of wine tasting. We didn't have a reservation, but they kindly let us sit at the bar and get drinks and an appetizer while we wait for an opening. Got the calamari, and it was delicious! Crispy and soft at the same time. The dip was amazing as well. The cocktails were well balanced as well. Got seated to our table and I ordered the bucatini with mushroom. It was ok. The pasta was perfectly al dente, but it wasn't as mushroom forward as I would have liked. Needs more umami! The restaurant itself was gorgeous. It's a cute date spot you won't want to miss. The service was also excellent.

Mad & Vin is a charming but delectable restaurant located within The Landsby offering New American fare. We had the opportunity to visit on Christmas Eve Eve for brunch. Space is nice with good ambiance. We were traveling with our son and my in-laws and we felt very comfortable with plenty of room. Reasonably kid friendly place. Have to provide a shout out to the Belgian waffle which was adorned with fresh fruit and hand whipped cream. Absolutely delicious! Also, the eggs Benedict were a force to be reckoned with. Their hollandaise sauce was particularly good. Excellent service. Definitely try them out next time in Solvang!!

I had an expresso martini the first night & a coke the next night because I was wine tasting all day. My friend had a red wine blend that she enjoyed. We really enjoyed our time at Mad & Vin. The service was helpful & attentive. The people were friendly. We met a local couple who wanted to meet my little doggie. They were very sweet. It is a very comfortable atmosphere. There is outside seating too with fire pits. If you visit the area I highly recommend stopping here. We tried a lot of places around town & kept thinking about the calamari we had at Mad & Vin :) The bar area is nice & the restaurant has quality food.

First off, 5/5 to front house host (allowed us to dine inside with our pet) and for our server (split our salad and soup in two for us without us asking!) Duck fat fries: solid 4/5, can taste the subtlety from duck fat oil, was light, airy, and not super crispy--enough for a solid bite Calamari: 5/5 very good calamari that was lightly battered, with very meaty calamari-flesh in each bite Soup of day: of course it's clam chowder, our favorite! Well seasoned and balanced with sweetness from carrots; again, good lumps of clam flesh with each spoonful! We're staying at the Landsby (which Mad & Vin is located as well) so it was very convenient. Great ambiance, great staff, and great food ‍

Came up to Solvang for the day and this was our first stop. It was nice and quiet and we enjoyed a calm brunch while we caught up! We ordered the Bellini Flight (I think one was mango mimosa, the middle one was champagne-y, and the one on the right had a tarty raspberry kick), fish & chips, and the fried chicken sandwich. Our entrees both came with a choice of smashed potatoes or a salad! Our server was really attentive and our water glasses were never empty.

While the service was excellent, the food did not meet expectations, especially considering the price.

One of the best restaurants I have been to.My boyfriend and I have been together for 8 years and have never taken a trip together so I thought a trip to solvang would be a perfect time to start.Not sure where to eat Mad & VIN was recommended and all I have to say is they didn't disappoint.I had the rack of lamb and he had halibut special.The staff amazing the bar staff amazing.The wait staff from start to finish made sure we had water at all times and cleared our table as soon as he saw we were done.I highly recommend this place.

Not busy on Wednesday morning. Food was good but delivered cold. Pricey even for Solvang imo. Clean and spacious.

Food was tasty for a solid price. Favorite was the little gem Caesar salad! Tender lettuce gems that just held the sauce so nicely. The shrimps were seasoned perfectly! The truffle mushroom pasta was good, very rich and heavy! The ceviche was not fish this night, but shrimp and was refreshing. The ambiance is upscale casual. There is a bar area and a nicer dining area. Good date spot in a little town! Host was a little terse but our server was great!

Nice modern vibe inside the Landsby hotel, we didn't make it to the bar but had a great look as well. Salad tasted fresh and had fresh strawberries, the chicken was really tasty as well. Nice portions and they split it for us. Only ding is when we checked in they said since we had reservations at the restaurant they would do something special for us as we were celebrating our anniversary. Not that we were expecting anything but after they said this we kind of were but got nothing. Also they were out of both the fish and the short ribs and our reservations were for 7 so not especially late. Glad we didn't have our heart set on the fish which looked good.

We celebrated my birthday dinner here. The restaurant is very cute and trendy. The service was very friendly and the menu is a nice curated list of options for everyone (seafood, meat, vegetarian). It's very convenient if you're staying in the hotel so you can have a few cocktails and walk back to your room. But the quality is great and a nice destination for dinner even if you're not staying on the premises. Highly recommend!

One of the best meals I've had in Solvang! We got the New York steak, it would cooked perfect and the chimichurri sauce was amazing. Even the vegetables were cooked perfect. My husband said it was one of the best meals he's had in a long time. I had the shrimp Caesar salad and it was amazing as well. Perfect dressing flavor on every bite and the shrimp was cooked to perfection with flavor. The staff was also sweet and helpful. Would recommend to everyone!

Wow!!!! We were here 3 days before we tried the restaurant in our own hotel and wow!! It was amazing!it was definitely the best restaurant in solvang.

We had a good dinner at Mad & Vin while on vacation. Our starter soup was good. And the salad was delicious. He really enjoyed his cioppino. My mushroom pasta was good, although it was buried in cheese (of which I removed half.) Portions for main dishes are good.

This isn't what you came to Solvang for, but it's definitely a treasure in Solvang. We had a hard time locating the restaurant, but found it nestled inside this beautiful hotel. Hospitality was on point. We sat on the back patio. Normally, I'm not a fan of eating outside, unless the view is amazing. However, I did not mind this time. There were only a few tables out back and it was next to a cute quiet courtyard - perfect for an intimate family dinner. I had champagne and the short rib entree. OMG that short rib was to-die-for! The texture was perfection and the portion was just right for me. My husband got the vegetable bowl because he was trying to be good after a gluttonous vacation. He was pleasantly surprised at how much he enjoyed that bowl. Every one from my party cleared off their plate. Whether you're staying at this hotel or not, this restaurant is worth a visit!

Absolutely loved this place! The food was better than I expected (and I secretly had high expectations). Very cozy and cute. The duck fat fries were delicious. The short rib fell off the bone. The brussel sprouts were amazing too! Can't wait to go back :) P.s. the staff was so nice and friendly!

Great spot for lunch if you're craving it. Service was fast and friendly and location was clean. My favorite was the spicy chicken sandwich, it wasn't too spicy. Also the side potato and sauce were delicious.

Food was decent- got ceviche and calamari both tasted good. Service was good, a bit slow on refills but he was kind and knowledgeable.

Happy hour mon-fri 4-6pm. Super cute, romantic, food and drinks were 10/10. Live music when we went Friday during happy hour, fire pits in the courtyard

We had a terrific brunch last weekend at Mad and Vin. Wonderful food, great service, in a very pretty restaurant.

Went here tonight for dinner & were blown away! Very comfortable seating inside the dining room & the food was amazing! Our server, Harrison, was professional, knowledgeable about the menu & the food. He made the whole dining experience perfect! We highly recommend trying this restaurant. Also check out their Happy Hour from 4:30-6 pm in the lounge area.

Horrible service. Place was half empty and still no server or greeter came to help us sit down for a meal for over 5 minutes. Would not recommend at all

Arrived a few minutes early for our 6:15 reservation. We were seated right away at a nice little table for two in what felt like our own little corner. Wonderful warm soft lighting and pleasant decor provides a nice atmosphere and background. Note - Mad Vin does not hold back on the portions. My wife and I shared everything we ate. It was perfect. To start, had to try the duck fat fries. They did NOT disappoint. Hot, crispy, and a bit of salt. The garlic aioli dip with the fries added little something extra. Next we had the Farmers Salad. Perfect flavor combination of roasted maple pecan, figs, dried apricots, baby tomatoes, all on a plate full of spring mix greens, and topped off with a wonderful raspberry vinaigrette dressing. Finally, we enjoyed the 12oz. New York steak with chimichurri sauce and seasonal veggies and potatoes. Our steak was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The chimichurri sauce had good flavor and brought some acidic balance. What I thought was genius, the hot seasoned steak was placed on top of the perfectly tender vegetables which kept them warm and added some of the steak fat drippings and seasoning. Amazing!

Went there during our stay in Solvang, for the price, the food was not great. The staff was courteous and friendly.

The wife and I both had fish, the Salmon and chef special pesto encrusted Halibut which was the standout dish. The ambiance and the staff were all great, we will definitely come back to Mad & Vin next time we're in Solvang.

How do you not make a pit stop here for dinner whenever I'm in the wine country. We've been here loads of time now and each time it gets better and better. This particular visit, which happened to be Father's Day. We had dinner reservations for 5 and boy was it great. Service was amazing, Casey who took care of us this trip and the last visit was the sweetest. She remembered us from our prior visit. Food of course was great as well as the cocktails. Having done wine tasting all day, food was what we needed. The menu gets straight to the point. Each dish that we had which we practically have tried them all before was great. My favorite, the ciopinno, I've had pasta added for that extra punch. The mushroom pasta is amazing as well. Each dish offered packs a punch with flavor. Cocktails menu, superb as well. It's our go to place whenever we're in Solvang. Great food, amazing service, beautiful restaurant/hotel, nice ambiance. Highly recommend this place.

Just exquisite cuisine with the freshest ingredients. Although we are spoiled in California as it is, there is an even higher level of fresh here. Wine country is always special. The salads are fresh and the fruits are flavorful. The preparation here is amazing, especially the handmade pastas. Located in the heart of Solvang, this place is convenient to get to, but surprisingly is not touristy. Definitely worth a meal here if you're in town.

Cons: None Star Ratings: - Overall: 5 - Food Taste: 5 - Food Portions: 5 - Location: 5 - Ambiance: 5 - Menu: 4 - Service: 5 - Price: 4 - Value: 5 - Parking: 4 Although we live in Nipomo - only 50 minutes away from Solvang - we rarely drive to the area. But family was visiting from out-of-state and the town is meant for tourists searching to be entertained. Solvang, with its interesting shops and tons of Danish bakeries, certainly fit the bill on a Friday. We arrived around noon, walked a bit and decided on lunch. Mad & Vin, a restaurant in a nice looking building, seemed to be a good choice. - Location: Central. Mad & Vin, inside the Landsby Hotel, is on the main street in town...Mission Drive ...not far from the middle of everything. - Ambiance: Contemporary farmhouse. Tables are spaced nicely for conversation and appear to be a combination of Scandinavian and Santa Barbara country. Seating is a mix of comfortable wooden chairs (I sat in one) and plush, but not overdone banquettes along the perimeter of the restaurant. Colors are very soothing with shades of beige contrasting with blacks and grays. Splashes of yellow and red dotted the walls. A very agreeable atmosphere. - Menu: Small yet interesting. We had the brunch menu which contained 4 egg-centered dishes, 6 entrees, 3 salads and several "sides", including "house made granola". Descriptions of each item sounded great - as if you couldn't go wrong. - Food Quality: Excellent. I had the Seafood Salad with 5 poached red shrimp, pieces of crab and calamari, arugula, capers and 2 pieces of grilled bread. The bread was a bit dry, but I could eat that salad every day. Cost was $25. My wife ordered the Avocado Toast with 2 large pieces of sourdough each with an egg, avocado, arugula and sesame seeds for $22. She fashions herself an expert on that dish and called it "one of the best". Her brother had Short Rib Grilled Cheese for $21. The menu said it contained a braised short rib, havarti, fontina and gruyere cheese and pepperocinis. He claimed "I couldn't believe how good it was". Both my wife and I drank an Aperol Spritz for $15 apiece. - Food Portions: Ample and just right. We were full, but with room for a few things from nearby bakeries. - Service: Exceptional. Our server was friendly, helpful and always available when needed. - Wait for a Table: None. Between noon and 1 PM on a Friday in the winter, the room was about 1/3 full. - Price and Value: Reasonable. Mad & Vin is not cheap, but there are many choices in town if you'd like to save $5-7 per dish. However, the cost was exactly what I'd expect for what we bought. - Parking: Plenty in the offseason. You might need to walk a few blocks to park on weekends and during the warmer weather. We've been to a few places for lunch in Solvang over the years, but Mad & Vin is one we'd return to.
