The food is significantly more expensive than at other hostels, and the portions are very small. In addition, a 3% fee is charged for every card payment, which is strange, as other hostels accept card payments without any fees. Perhaps they should consider to change the bank. The exchange rate is also questionable: here, $1 is calculated at 4100 riel, while in the rest of Cambodia it is customary to calculate $1 = 4000 riel which is bad if they have everything listed in $ and you want to pay in local Riel. If you ask for a towel in the evening, you often won't get one, as they operate on a "first come, first served" basis. It took me 1.5 days to finally get one, this should be better organized in a hostel of this size. The pub crawl is unfortunately quite disappointing. Charging $10 for a tank top and "shots" that taste more like juice is, in my opinion, excessive. The pubs we visited were also pretty quiet, apart from the Mad Monkey's own guests. The cleanliness in the restaurant area leaves something to be desired in places. The beds are fine, but the top beds are extremely high, so you really have to climb to get into them. The staff are friendly, which is definitely a positive point. However, the pool never really looked completely clean.

First time staying at Mad Monkey, and we loved it! It is a social and mostly young hostel, but we were pleasantly surprised to meet travelers of all ages staying here, even some solo-traveling retirees. We booked a private room and it was large, clean, and quiet despite all the noise on the streets and in the bar downstairs. They also had a co-working space I used that is AC and looks extremely professional in case you have to take a video call during your stay. We appreciated that the reception was able to organize tours for us, so we didn't have to sort through any logistics. We took the S21 and Killing Fields tour, and all of the tuk-tuks and entrance tickets were arranged concluding with lunch and a drink back at the hostel. The tour had adequate time at each stop. We also went on an evening walking tour with Leakana where she showed us the main monuments of the city, took us on a ferry ride across the Mekong River and back, and introduced us to local fruits, spices, a street food dinner stop, and we even had the opportunity to try bugs! Wonderful time and highly recommend staying here.

room: a 6-bed room with a private bathroom and air conditioning. It was very clean and hygienic. bed: the bed was cozy and tidy. pool: a small yet lovely pool surrounded by trees. You can meet more people, both local and international, and have great conversations. I particularly enjoyed the podium by the wall and under the tree. It has a vibrant atmosphere with a mix of street sounds, wind, shadows, and music. I slept for two hours and it was wonderful.

Honestly, as a couple who are a bit on the quieter side we were slightly sceptical about booking a Mad Monkey. We had a really bad hostel back in Da Lat so we decided we would go with a chain and honestly I would never look back. Firstly when we arrived the staff were lovely and also gave us an extra pillow each as I like having 2, and a free towel. The beds are HUGE, a double bed each with massive lockers. The rooms are also massive. We got a free cocktail on arrival and then got some more after which were all lovely and affordable. We ate every meal here also because the food was 10/10. We did the S21 and Killing field tour through the hostel and once again we were very impressed with the service. If you were looking to socialise there was massive social areas and events on to mix and a lovely pool. This is in my top 3 hostels of SE asia so far in 2 months, if anything maybe the best.

Had a great time, for my first time in a hostel. Great friendly people. Super chill if you want it to be, one night I got too drunk out and about and just enjoyed sitting in the common area the next day sobering up, watching ufc, eating there nice food and going for a swim. Great place, will be staying in another in Siem reap. Extra Special shoutout to one of the lovely workers there name SoSo, who took great care of me the whole time and was a super polite friend :) 10/10

Stayed here recently and loved it, highly recommend it. Fun stuff happening every night, lots of funny and extremely welcoming Khmer staff making sure everything ticks over. Very good location too for Bassac, BKK and theres always a tuk tuk outside to take you to Riverside etc. The manager Adrian is a good guy too, i met him 10 years ago at a different hostel in SE Asia, so was it great to see a familiar face after all that time.

Stayed here for 2 nights! Very social hostel, on my first evening I attended the pub crawl. I was a solo traveller and when I went to the event one of the workers Soso was there and was so welcoming and introduced me to other people staying in the hostel! The second day I attended the S21 prison and Killing fields tour and also the evening walking tour which were both great tours. That evening the hostel had a drag music show on which was amazingly random. Met Adrian the manager that evening who was so kind and welcoming also! Had a great stay at the hostel will definitely recommend to friends

Quite disappointed with this hostel. If you’re looking for a quiet place, this is not the right address. The bed is very hard, and there is almost no storage apart from the one under the bed (not practical at all if you have the top bunk). My pillow and mattress were stained. The curtain doesn’t allow for full privacy. Even though it’s located in a quiet area, you can hear the nightclub next door.
