Mad Monkey Phnom Penh

Honestly, as a couple who are a bit on the quieter side we were slightly sceptical about booking a Mad Monkey. We had a really bad hostel back in Da Lat so we decided we would go with a chain and honestly I would never look back. Firstly when we arrived the staff were lovely and also gave us an extra pillow each as I like having 2, and a free towel. The beds are HUGE, a double bed each with massive lockers. The rooms are also massive. We got a free cocktail on arrival and then got some more after which were all lovely and affordable. We ate every meal here also because the food was 10/10. We did the S21 and Killing field tour through the hostel and once again we were very impressed with the service. If you were looking to socialise there was massive social areas and events on to mix and a lovely pool. This is in my top 3 hostels of SE asia so far in 2 months, if anything maybe the best.

Stayed here for 2 nights! Very social hostel, on my first evening I attended the pub crawl. I was a solo traveller and when I went to the event one of the workers Soso was there and was so welcoming and introduced me to other people staying in the hostel! The second day I attended the S21 prison and Killing fields tour and also the evening walking tour which were both great tours. That evening the hostel had a drag music show on which was amazingly random. Met Adrian the manager that evening who was so kind and welcoming also! Had a great stay at the hostel will definitely recommend to friends

Best mad monkey ive been to. I didn't party at all and everyone in my room was super chill. Rooms were very clean. Staff was very organized. Kudos to such a well known branch. The other mad monkey hostels could learn a lot from this place

Always known of mad monkey and since we were in the location of their first one figured I'd finally go, certainly did not disappoint. Pool with bball and volleyball, pool table and beer pong kept us entertained, staff (shoutout tintin and nyaneek) were super helpful, and the events (particularly the drag music quiz) was really well run. Beds are 3xl and super comfy

Favourite hostel of the travels so far! From the moment I checked in Thy Thy was so friendly and up for the laugh, making sure I had signed up to the loyalty program and giving me the lowdown on activities in the hostel and nearby. Linn also made us feel so welcome and gave us some great local food recommendations and places to go out, even though her and Thy Thy are terrible at beer pong (don’t play them you WILL lose).. but a massive shoutout to Adrian who gave us food and drink recommendations for the hostel, kept checking in to make sure our rooms, food, drink, and overall experience was up to standard and even got stuck in with a few activities too. From the many countries I’ve visited definitely my favourite hostel in terms of staff, food quality, drinks, and social activities. Will recommend any friend coming through to stay here.

Mad monkey never disappoints. The rooms were simple but clean, with AC. The beds were larger than expected and very comfortable. The dragshow was entertaining and cool. The food is a liiittle bit more expensive than at a local restaurant but the vibes make up for it. The location is central, and I liked the little pond and bridge at the entrance, I think it looks very nice. I met very nice people here. I will come again :)

This was my first experience staying at a Mad Monkey, and unfortunately, I won’t be returning. I stayed here over Halloween expecting a party, but there wasn’t one just a pub crawl to a few crowded places with very little atmosphere. When I arrived, no one showed me to my room or explained where the bar, pool, or restaurant areas were, and there was no mention of any tours or activities available. Because Mad Monkey is such a big commercial chain, it feels like they don’t need to put much effort into creating a good guest experience they’ll always have customers regardless. Smaller hostels tend to offer a much more personal and authentic stay. The rooms could also use some TLC. There was no real privacy in the dorms, and the bed curtains didn’t close properly, so light from the window came in very early. I expected better, but sadly, I’m not too surprised.

Great hostel. Really large hang out area, billiards and a pool with lots of greenery really pretty. Staff is so kind. Went on a sunset walking tour with Leakena who was amazing. Got to see the sunset from a boat, try local foods and bugs with two free beers for only $6. Would highly recommended staying here.
