Mad Monkey Siem Reap

Mad Monkey is all about marketing but sadly they don’t live up to the hype at all. We stayed there for Christmas (7 days 6 nights) and we were willing to pay their higher dorm rates because we thought they would be a good social hostel for the holidays, but we were wrong. They had so many activities advertised, but in reality 80% got cancelled and never happened. We signed up to a family dinner, which also got cancelled and no one told us about it. It got changed to a Christmas dinner for $12 per person which is very overpriced compared to prices in other restaurants on the high street. I think it’s sad how they exploit backpackers for mediocre food on a major holiday. The reps/volunteers couldn’t care less about making a good vibe, make us have fun. It was super boring and meh the whole time. I will never again stay at a Mad Monkey hostel. It’s overpriced as hell for everything from the dorms, food & drinks, to the activities… if you’re on a budget and not into fake people then don’t stay here. You can get the same for less elsewhere.

This hostel is great, my time there was very good, the facility is very comfy and clean. Big room with good beds with lockers and curtains, the bathroom is big and clean too. There are 2 great pools and a pooltable in the lobby. The food and drinks there are very good as well. And the staff members are very kind and helpful, especially sayon helped me a lot. If i stay in siem reap again i will stay here again.

Mad Monkey hostel is great if you’re single and looking to hook up. If you’re satisfied being single, maybe try another hostel. This hostel is truly only about getting it on and partying - which is fine, but I wish it felt more culturally aligned. Mad Monkey, at least in Siem Reap, is the commercialized version of Khmer culture, and works to advertise a tourist-friendly sanitized picture of life in Siem Reap. Not to mention the security guards at sleep at night, the half-assed hostel-hosted experiences (not the tours, which were great), and the god awful alcohol. You’re better off staying at a hostel that doesn’t advertise itself as a “party hostel” if this review doesn’t appeal to you. I love the staff I’ve met here, but that does not reflect on my experience in this hostel. The rooms are clean (as a woman staying in a 6-bed female dorm) and a lot of accommodations are met - clean bathroom, a curtain for each bed, a towel per person. Really great accommodation wise! Personally, I see the same price at different places, and would be intrigued to investigate what experience they’re offering. Not sure if I’ll be returning to Mad Monkey as a first time customer.

This was hands down the most precious hostel experience I’ve ever had. The staff, the food, the location everything just felt right. From the first moment I felt at home. You know that feeling when you visit a place and think: Should I move here? Exactly that. What truly made this place special were the people especially Sayon and Benny. They genuinely deserve a big, well earned raise. Their care, energy, and attention towards the guests go far beyond what you’d ever expect. After five days at Mad Monkey, I don’t just see them as staff anymore I see them as friends

Had stayed here with my brother over our trip. Was lovely stay nice clean rooms and common area and clean pools. In a good location to walk into main town Had spent my birthday when I was there and benny and other staff making it worth while and a memorable one. All staff happy and friendly and completed the stay

I loved my stay at Mad Monkey Siem Reap! The pool and outdoor area is amazing, the location is ideal, the rooms were super clean, and it was a great spot for meeting fellow travellers. The staff and specifically Kassy were wonderful and super helpful! I’d definitely recommend :)

Kassy really made our stay unforgettable. She was incredibly accommodating and hosted a super fun karaoke night while we were there. I’d highly recommend this hostel—my friends and I agree it was one of the best experiences we’ve ever had!
