The place was better before EPIC took over. It seems Mad River is low on the priority list for the EPIC group resorts. I understand that OH has bizarre winter conditions, which yield anywhere from -5 windchill on a cold day to consecutive days or even weeks in the high 50s-low 60s in January and February. However, if you only have 1 lift and 1-2 slopes open, it's theft, in my opinion, to charge customers full price (a whopping $70!!!) for a lift pass, especially when the conditions are slushy with several patches of grass and/or mud. Snow Trails delayed opening, even closed for a period after season opening, when the temperatures weren't sufficient for keeping good snow, while Mad River had no problem robbing their customers by opening prematurely. They are so insanely disorganized, you basically pay an arm and a leg to stand around in lines, and that's before ever making it to a lift, regardless if you paid ahead online. They used to have a separate line with kiosks to check in for people who paid ahead. What I do like about this resort are the nice open lounge area with large windows to view the slopes, plenty of seating for the observers, and a variety of hills and features. I do recommend bringing your own snacks and meals if spending the day there, because the cafeteria food is mediocre at best, and of course at a premium price. Overall, though, with its proximity to Columbus, and decent hills for the state, it is a great place to spend time with friends and family when they can actually produce snow. Just get there early and be prepared to wait, so you can maximize your time on the slopes. Also, check online for the conditions before ever showing up.
