As a hostel this is a 5 all day with one major caveat which I'll get to later. I ideally like to walk everywhere but it wasn't possible for Milan as the hostels close to Central were more expensive then I was willing to pay. Madama Hostel splits the difference. It's a few minutes walk from the train station. The same train line that goes Duomo and the central train station.
Milans trains are great. Fast, easy to understand, accurate train signalling and cheap(1.5 €).
The hostel itself is large, clean, well equipped, and the most inclusive hostel I've stayed at yet. Breakfast, and dinner are free with your stay. Breakfast covered the basics but dinner had several small items that were tasty enough. I believe locals come here regularly just for the food and bar. Hotel guests get a discount on those as well.
The rooms had one large locker, assigned to each guest with a hostel lock on it. The key they provide you. Otherwise under the beds is another large locker for supplementary storage. One bathroom per guest room with community bathrooms strewn about.
The only downside with this hostel is noise. It is loud with club music that goes till late. They provide free ear plugs to compensate but if you are bothered by noise this place is not for you. Just passing through the bistrot to get to your room during the afternoon I found a boisterous crowded entrance area. I travelled in the off season and had an entire 6 person room to myself. I can only imagine how bad the noise and crowds could get during the prime season.
