17 Best Bars in Berlin

"Although Madame Claude occupies a space that was once a brothel, everything is decorated as if you've wandered into someone's apartment—but upside down. Furniture is artfully arranged across the ceiling, and half the fun is spotting the details, like sets of keys and beer bottles hanging above your head; it’s like a cozy I Spy book. Start with Mme. Claude, the house cocktail, but don't shy away from standard drinks—they're done perfectly. And head to the basement if you'd like to catch some live music." - Krystin Arneson

If you're into jazz, an underground atmosphere, and live jamming, Madam Claude is a must-visit! It's a really nice bar with a cool vibe. Just a heads-up: get there early if you want to participate in the jamming – it gets popular!

Great bar with Friendly service, ambience and prices. Large selections of beer starting from €3.50. The bar has tablefoosball set and an arcade machine to the left when going in. The main room is on the right. The whole room is turned upside down which is beautiful, totally recommend

A real hidden Gem. The place has a unique concept and a versatile cultural and event offering. What I like the most is the upside-down furniture glued to the roof, simply is so full of details. Can only recommend it to have a cozy and wholesome night with friends.

A very very interesting Pub/club. The place used to be a brothel before being a pub. The decor is very interesting and it was one the main reasons I wanted to visit, where everything is set upside down (literally). Smoking is allowed inside which can be annoying to non smokers. Many rooms to chill. There's live music everyday there. However it is very hot in the music room, specially when it gets packed. It needs more ventilation and air conditioning.

Most amazing little cave in Berlin. Always harboring interesting people, hosting amazing and diverse concerts, keeping a quirky atmosphere and having the most friendly and fun bartenders. Any night in Madame Claude ends up being special and memorable. Love that place and miss it dearly!

An incredible bar with live DJ performances every night! The bar staff are exceptionally friendly, and the seating options are super cozy. I’m genuinely surprised to have had such an amazing and spontaneous evening in Kreuzberg, completely stress-free.

This was quite a fun place!! The upstairs is a bar that kind of turns into a club, and then you have the downstairs where you actually have a small club kind of an area where often there are concerts

Such a cool little bar. There is a donation entry fee of between 1 to 6 euros. If you don't like smoke this place isn't for you. Live performances, cheap beer and good atmosphere.

Yelp
This is a pretty charming bar with a very casual atmosphere and interesting inverted decor, and great prices. I met another solo traveler here and we struck up an amazing conversation. The bar staff were young and not too experienced, but to grab a drink before going to a club, this place is hard to beat. As with most bars in Germany, people smoke inside, which can be a dealbreaker for you especially since it is in a basement and poorly ventilated. Overall amazing spot, especially for tourists that aren't in large groups. I stayed way longer than I was expecting to.

Yelp
Great drinks and great ambiance, even a bit early for night life and on a Wednesday. Can't wait to come back here at 1am!

Yelp
Whenever I am here, I run into someone that I havent seen in a very long time. Obviously this club is infamous for its upside down appeal, but its really not that obvious. Its nice if you get there earlier, as seating is harder to come by as the kids come rushing in. Not good for dancing and its hard to hear people talking...unless you are sitting. This results in a lot of people just standing around, drinking. I suggest this place as an pre-game spot to hit up before going to a club or if you just want to have an "early" Berlin evening. Its nice around 23-24.

Yelp
Fun little bar in Kreuzberg. You get a lot of students there and I have had many great nights there. Music can be quite random sometimes, especially on Wednesdays when they have their music quiz night. Best place to go on a Thursday though. 2 for 1 beers and the ping pong table are out downstairs. I wouldn't say its the best bar in town, but with the price, the type of people you get, and the location, its a very solid choice.

Yelp
This is one of those places I've heard about over and over, but mostly for the furniture on the ceiling. These kind of things always ring a little gimmicky to me so I wasn't too excited when a friend suggested a visit, but it was just around the corner so we stopped in. There was a 1 euro cover on a Saturday & at first we weren't sure why. There was a DJ booth in the center of the room playing basic beats, but ti was surprisingly kept at a manageable volume so we could still talk. The decor was a little campy & rundown (where isn't in Berlin), but beer selection was decent and were able to find a seat fairly easily in one of the many nooks and crannies. This was not the case after just an hour or so when the show that had been going on down a mysterious path in the back let out. Everyone grouped uncomfortably around the door & we eventually got up to give some other poor souls our seats. This place was better than I expected & I am glad I saw it, but not so special I'd make a point to come. Especially with seating so limited when it's full, it could be rather packed.

Yelp
Madame Claude is a topsy turvy indie joint in Kreuzberg. Tables are stuck to the ceiling and furniture is turned upside down, to make you think you've hit the booze too hard when you walk in. Dark and moody like Morrissey, it's one of the more hipster-ish places to hang out in Berlin. A good variety of music throughout the week, it attracts people with big specs, big jumpers and a big love for eclectic indie, with some house thrown into the mix. A great place for fleeting visitors to take some pictures of all their pals lying upside down on the chairs and doing sommersaults off the furniture. Not that me or my pals did anything like that, not at all!

Yelp
This Kreuzberg labyrinth- bar it's famous for its upsidedown furniture, (you feel yourself a bit like Alice in Wonderland) I suggest it as a place to hit up for an early drink before going to a club. Worth a visit!

Yelp
It's a bar, a labyrinth, and everything is upside down except for table tennis table and the fantastic bands that play here. Sunday is open mic night. How can you not love it?

Yelp
An underground Labyrinth, furnitures are hanged from the ceiling, eclectic concerts in a tiny room. (I've seen there, Kría Brekkan(Mùm), Costes, Beans, and Animal Collective watching Drawlings' show! (Great bands so.) Cosmopolitan and madness surroundings. Simply my prefered place in all Berlin. Go there on sundays for the open mic and you'll understand why. ;-)

Yelp
Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the selection of music happening the night I went. Wanted to check out the live show happening but it was already over when I arrived. Look forward to checking it out further next time I'm back in the city!

Yelp
Fantastic bar in Kreuzberg. Nice staff, cool decoration, good music... Maybe a bit too little, it gets crowded easily.

Yelp
The upside down bar in Berlin. You have to pay it a visit. There's an entrance and you can pay how ever much you want and almost however little you want. Go here manly for the experience!

Yelp
This place is amazing! The decoration is incredible with the furniture on the ceiling, and I really appreciated the atmosphere with very good music and very nice bar keepers. As a berliner citizen, I choose Madame Claude as my favorite place because there is everything to have fun
