The New Hotel Madame Rêve Feels Like Paris’s Best-Kept Secret | Vogue

"Paris may boast many of the world’s grandest and most storied hotels, but Madame Rêve, which opened earlier this year, stands apart from competitors—not just for its elegance, but for its sense of discretion. This lack of pretension is evident from the entrance, which is almost unmarked and easily missed. Guests must buzz into a very small (but impressively chic) lobby. Where the grand first floors of Paris’s best-known five-star hotels—flooded with flower arrangements, fine furniture, and deferential professionals—lend themselves to chance encounters and copious small talk, at Madame Rêve, patrons can slip in and out with ease. The property is a product of Georges-Eugène Haussmann’s transformation of Paris under Napoleon III. Built in 1888, the stately building—was there any other kind in 1888?—served as the city’s first and only 24-hour post office. The space was transformed for its present usage by Laurent Taïeb, the entrepreneur behind popular Parisian dining destinations Kong and Le Trésor. A short and picturesque walk from the Palace des Victoires, the Jardin du Palais-Royal, and the Louvre, Madame Rêve’s ideal location feels noticeably quieter and less overrun with tourists than many comparable hotels, while remaining firmly in the center of the action. (And despite the hotel’s hushed, secretive spirit, if prompted, the knowledgeable concierge will happily offer their expertise on lesser-known attractions to fill your stay in the city.) The sophisticated, sexy rooms and suites offer further refuge from the city’s bustle. Hues of oranges and browns compliment the onyx, leather, and brass used throughout, while contemporary details elevate the earth tones to reflect the hotel’s broader blend of old-world Paris with cutting-edge design." - Ian Malone

I had very high expectations of this place but can only say that I was slightly disappointed. We ordered 5 starters to share ; here’s my ranking: 1. The fresh salmon - very good, very fresh and perfectly marinated 2. The duo d’artichauts with velouté à la truffe - I didn’t expect to like this but I recommend !! 3. The burrata, although I’ve had better 4. The tuna tartare, supposedly with crispy rice but the rice was not crispy at all (as if it was prepared 2 days ago) 5. The lobster salad ; it was apparently new to the menu and it shows: there was something missing (more flavor, more lobster…) I don’t think I’d go back for dinner - although I’d definitely go back for drinks ; the vibe was really nice and the service was great. They also have super good and special drinks. I tried the White Tiger —> perfect if you like coconut :)

The food at this restaurant is delicious, and my favorite dish was definitely the ceviche. The portions are small, but they’re well presented and enjoyable. The place is clean, with a pleasant atmosphere, and the staff is very friendly. Definitely a great option for those looking for good flavor and great service.

Both service and atmosphere was more than good to be honest. But the food was just okay. I had a breakfast there. The kitchen is in Michelin Guide thats why I though it would be good. However it was not more than a hotel breakfast.

Walked into the hotel, dim lit dining area and a bunch of low height tables in more of a bar setting. Host staff was nice and took coats. Waiters were also attentive and available when called over. It did feel like we had many eyes on us while dining but I digress. The only good food we got was the Fois Gras Pate and bread. Very delicious. Every other item and drink had issues. The drinks tasted fine, but smelled off when sipping. The steak was asked to be medium well, but ended up blue almost raw. The pork was chewy and the potatoes left the mouth feeling dry. The foie gras ravioli was slimy and bland. The hazelnut crusted bass was just a weird combo but was ok. The shrimp curry had 4 pieces of shrimp and very soggy wet rice that dissolved in the mouth. The management ended up removing the shrimp from the check and attempted to remake the rice, but overall was a very disappointing meal for the price.

The end of a super week in Paris. Super atmosphere, fantastic surroundings and really lovely food. Well worth a visit. Antoine the barman was brilliant with his knowledge and the service from Ilias was second to none.

Great to be back at this fabulous hotel. Served lunch by Rose, who recognised me from my first visit to this hotel in February. Rose sums up how staff look after guests, in a friendly, classic, and knowledgeable way. I will come back again. It has become my favourite hotel in Paris.
