On the Grid : Madi Apparel

"Founder and creator Hayley, started Madi Apparel after she learned that underwear is the most under donated item for people in need. She set out to create a thoughtful company that provides simply beautiful undergarments made out of sustainable bamboo fabrics. Each piece you buy provides a woman in need a pair of beautiful and comfortable underwear, giving her a tiny piece of luxury during a time she needs it most. The styles are classic and not fussy and unbelievably soft. Her shop in the Westside is a cozy space and a pleasure to shop, especially knowing your purchase will pay itself forward. Check out her site for more detailed info about her mission and process." - Rachel Sleeter

I love this brand and want the stand for so much! This clothing company (On Instagram@madi_appare) donates a pair of underwear for every purchase to places that otherwise wouldn't have them, PLUS all of their clothing is made by local artisans in a sustainably made way! So while you're looking for luxuriously soft underwear and intimates to fill your wardrobe, you're also supporting the environment AND giving back with every purchase. That's amazing! Shop local at Madi Apparel!

Love the concept and the products. I recently bought some of the little leather notebooks and love how they repurposed materials to make them. They also have refills available so you can keep using them for years! Definitely a new staple in my purse; I use it all the time for grocery & to do lists. Their other hand painted notebooks are also so pretty, I will definitely be back for them!

MADI is a high-quality shop with a heart-driven mission and one of my favorite spaces to spend time in Kansas City, when I used to live there. The owner welcomed me in by letting me know the shop is based on the premise of making a difference. Everything the store was based on was a manifestation for me to have found: organic clothing, pure plant dyes, devotion to proper pay for people. MADI is a gem, and I shop their online store now since I live in Florida. Their purpose deserves above-and-beyond gratitude. I have two pairs of their silk shorts! This shop is the best!

I love, love, love MADI Apparel. I had known about the brand since the beginning, but since I moved away from Kansas City, I didn't get to see the shop. Half a decade or so ago, I stumbled on the online storefront and wanted to support the mission. Since then, I've been so impressed with the quality and mission that they work so hard to create. My favorite items are the bamboo joggers, the lounge shorts, and of course, the underwear! Though it might be more expensive than buying something from a large, cheap website, the quality and customer service is unparalleled. Every purchase is worth every penny!

Wanted an ethically made/eco-friendly robe and was delighted to find MADI Apparel locally. The quality is great (have had it since February and it washes/dries without issue at home) and feels like butter to put on. Would love to see a longer length version, but the black bamboo robe I bought is super versatile, comfortable, and packs well for travel (a luxury!). The owner was very helpful in-store and even asked feedback on some of the things I tried on for fit. Love supporting a business that supports our community.

I absolutely adore MADI Apparel - my husband brought me into the shop years ago to pick out some christmas presents. During the visit I met the owner and learned all about their mission, and I was in love. I have a few items from them that I treasure and even purchased all my bridal party members embroidered robes. MADI couples community and quality in a way that only intentionally build small businesses can!

My wife was the one to discover MADI Apparel, as we wanted to be more conscientious of how and where we source our goods and services, and to be more active in supporting those less fortunate than ourselves. MADI Apparel fit both objectives perfectly. On the former objective, as soon as MADI released their new bed sheets, recently, we knew we had to try them (especially after the quality that we had observed in their apparel). I don’t usually get excited by things like bed sheets, but they are AMAZING! I literally didn’t realize sheets could be this soft. As soon as we experienced a couple of nights on the first set of sheets, we ordered a second set! Now we’re talking about adding a third set to keep a solid rotation going! They've honestly been one of the greatest contributions to improved sleep quality that we've ever had. On the latter objective, what an amazing organization and “system” MADI has established. Not only do they sell the most incredible, sustainable, ethically-sourced goods...they employee at-risk women, train them to be seamstresses, and then put them to work making undergarments for other at-risk women who find themselves in need. It’s the most complete, comprehensive vertical integration of products, services and service to community I’ve ever personally witnessed. Lastly, I must say that the exceptional quality of their goods is matched only by an equally impressive customer experience, which we’ve had repeatedly, regardless if it’s online, via email or in-person (we’re grateful that they call Kansas City home). For all of these reasons, thank you MADI Apparel, sincerely.

MADI Apparel is the epitome of GOOD! I stumbled upon their company many years ago and loved the quality of their clothing but most importantly their purpose. For every purchase made they donate a pair of underwear to a shelter in need. They keep showing their quality and spirit through each and every year. (The owner, Hayley, is super duper genuine!) You get what you pay for and I never leave that place with anything but the feeling of graciousness. (A good friend of mine passed from cancer last year - she was also a good friend to the owner and other folks associated with the company. She had modeled for them and still shines on their website/branding. They shut down their store in honor of her during her funeral and plastered their windows with her photos. If that is not the epitome of good, I don't know what is). They have backyard music events. I have yet to join in on these but excited to attend when the weather warms up!! Visit their shop (or website)!! You will NOT be disappointed. I also live in their robes. Get one. Do it. NOW! Such a wonderful community. <3

Rebranded and with a new concept, Slow Motion Goods now takes the space of the previously housed 'Madi Apparel'. During my visit to Kansas City in 2019 I stumbled upon Madi Apparel's store and until the last two years (due to my allergy issues) I was a regular buyer of their beautifully dyed bamboo clothing. So when I saw that Slow Motion Goods was a short walk from our hotel where I was staying for a local developer conference I jumped at making a stop. Although Slow Motion Goods carries Madi Apparel branded clothing, it's no longer a Madi Apparel only shop. A bit more like a lifestyle business, Slow Motion carries purses, repurposed tees, records, and even recycled items dyed with Madi's unique dyes. I picked up a gorgeous set of table linens as a gift that I know Anneanne will love and was so excited that they're branching out into recycled and repurposed concepts made with the Madi Apparel flair. All in all, it was great to visit a physical store with Madi items, and I will definitely be back next time I'm in Kansas City!
