Madison Manor Boutique Hotel

When we arrived, the front desk concierge was kind and helpful. Our room however was filthy. The bed had hair and makeup stains all over the sheets and pillow cases. The bathroom walls were covered in different colours of dirt and makeup. We had no hand soap, and the only chair in the room was broken. The front desk was able to switch our sheets, but continued to give us dirty makeup marked pillow cases. When we ordered takeout from the bar, the bartender was very rude to the other bartender that took our order and said not to do any hotel orders. When we decided to go to the bar for late night food and drinks, we asked to place an order and the rude server once again said she wouldn’t serve us unless we were sitting at a table (fair) so we proceeded to sit at a table right in front of her and she would not serve us. The table behind us had been waiting for a while and they asked the bartender to please serve them. She was once again rude to them. After proceeding to wait 20 minutes while she walked past us repeatedly we decided to leave and order food from a different restaurant. I would not recommend staying here if you have any cleanliness or service standards.

The Madison Manor has comfortable beds in reasonably spacious rooms in a prime central location. Bathroom space was great, lots of storage, easy check-in and check-out. Coffee machine was good. Those are the positives.||The negatives are the neighbourhood, both immediate and close-by. The property is, as many have pointed out, next to a noisy pub and sound barriers are negligible. I was staying out late during my stay but even I was surprised when an argument broke out in an alley at 4:00 A.M. and I could hear it clearly, several floors up. They do provide earplugs. The neighbourhood around the area used to be nice, but all the stores were driven out in prelude to a large construction development that is now in progress, so there are few "eyes on the street" and the park just down from the property seems to be a regular hosting for Toronto's transient population.||Overpriced for what you get. Television instructions were in Spanish, for some reason. And the room I had involved going upstairs to the fourth floor, and then downstairs again to my room. Very strange.||Suitable for a late-night crash once in a while. Not recommended for a vacation.

The area is lovely and the hotel is nice enough. Problem is its right beside a bar. It says that in the description but what it doesn't say is that its one of the busiest bars around for university students. I have nothing against that except the noise. You know when you're in trouble when the room comes with ear plugs. Aside from that the hotel is basic. No fridge in the room. No water. Its charming yes but way overpriced. The bar has decent food and I must say great service. Matthew and Zach in particular stood out.

The room had such a Victorian era feel, very posh and well maintained. My husband booked the room for us not knowing what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised. The location next to the pub made it super fun to be able to grab dinner and drinks before turning in. The check in, while maze like, was pretty straightforward, and the check out was even easier, with the process being simply to leave the room keys in a visible area. The room service was prompt to check on our room for housekeeping. If you are not packing light, you may struggle with the stairs, but we will be coming back in the future.

The location is so close to the University of Toronto Woodworth college. The receptionist is helpful. The facility is suitable for a short stay and cleanliness wise is acceptable. I enjoyed my stay there.

Definitely very loud on a Friday night but that's to be expected when you stay beside a very popular bar in the frat and sorority area of Toronto. We didn't mind it at all and enjoyed listening to the students enjoying their Friday night. Brings us back :) The rooms are clean and the staff is kind.

I stayed there this past weekend (April 2025) and I really loved the service, the woman at the front desk was super nice and very patient with us. The location was awesome! Although Saturday evening was full of frat kids at the pub (to be expected). The bartenders at the pub were lovely, they chatted a bit with us, and the drinks were so good! if you love a nice sweet cocktail that’s the place to go! i recommend the sour key cocktail and the amsterdam blonde beer from tap was great and the food was really good too i recommend the fish tacos or simple fries were yummy as well. I do wish the view of the courtyard was better it looked a bit neglected. Overall, i loved the hotel and its location.

Very week located, if you have a vehicle. Green P parking right behind the Manor. Very quiet and pub food next door.

A bit confusing on first arrival as there are two buildings - one has restaurants and office, one with guest rooms). Got there a couple of hours early and they managed to find us a room that's ready so we didn't have to wait. The place has old world charm or dated look depending on your perspective. The exterior much cuter than the interior. Dark carpeting - green in hallway, wine color in room, definitely makes everything look a bit gloomy. Our corner room (302 on the second floor - no elevator) was a "deluxe" double with king bed, with a cute balcony facing front with two chairs (one of only three rooms with a balcony and probably the largest one). Room not large but a friend who stayed in a standard room said his was much tinier - clearly being an old building the room sizes and layouts here could all be different (I'd likely rated this place a 3 star had we not had this nicer room). High ceilings with ceiling fan, central aircon not too noisy and good temp control. Room lights bright enough. WiFi works in room and was fast enough. No blackout curtains however so there is street light coming through at night. Furniture looks a bit worn, and only one desk chair, and no luggage rack. Bed a bit soft, large comfortable pillows. Small open closet area but the rail is set very low so if you have a longer coat you can't use it as it'll drape on the floor. Bathroom is small but updated, all white tiles also with a window so quite bright. Shower only, no tub. Electric water heater is handy for making tea or coffee (and even tea bags are provided). No fridge. There is a fair sized safe large enough for a lap top. Breakfast served in the bar with high backed upholstered bright red booth seats. Food is "cold continental" - consisting of juices, good selection of whole fruits plus cut half grapefruits, hot/cold cereal, assortment of pastries - tasty small muffins and danishes, hard boiled eggs. Nice assortment of teas. There is no lobby area but if you need a place to hang out for a while after check out they let you use the upstairs restaurant which is quite large and has some secluded quiet corners. Convenient location - Spadina subway stop right around the corner, and 10-15 min walk to commercial area with shops, restaurants, museums and the University.

Not gonna lie. This place is basically haunted. The rooms are from the early 1900s the lamp is blinking on and off there's no staff on the grounds after 5 PM so you're on your own and the furniture is like smells like my grandmother's house I'm gonna ride this one out but I can tell you what this is. If you're searching for a haunted manners, this is your hotel I'm gonna plead the blood of Jesus over this place all night.

Would definitely recommend! The staff was incredibly welcoming, making me feel like a valued guest from the moment I arrived. The cozy and well-appointed room had all the amenities I needed for a comfortable short stay. The hotel's location was also near perfect, offering a nice and peaceful atmosphere yet it is conveniently close to downtown toronto.

The Madison Manor Boutique Hotel is a real gem in downtown Toronto. I have been staying there for years and it is always clean, friendly and centrally located. Most importantly, the staff is incredible. Thanks to Manager Tara and her staff for helping me with an unfortunate car problem which they solved within hours. Situated near Bata Shoe Museum and Spadina station, Madison Manor "Boutique Hotel" is an ideal location for those who want to stay in the downtown area. I really wanted to like this place but I had some issues which I felt compelled to mention for those who are looking into staying here. Pros: 1) Nice friendly staff 2) Clean room - Nothing fancy, but OK for the price. I expected more from the name "boutique hotel". 3) Great location 4) Good price (about $120/night) 5) $12 food coupon - You can use the coupon at the pub located inside the same building but the food quality is subpar. Cons: 1) So LOUD!!! There are lots of loud college kids that come to the pub and I could hear them in my room on the 2nd floor until midnight, which was so annoying especially when I had to fly into Toronto taking 6am flight and was ready to go to sleep at 10pm. I stayed here 2 nights in a row and both nights I had to deal with the noise from the pub. 2) The room doesn't get completely dark. The lights from outside comes through the blinds and the curtain is just a sheer chiffon like fabric which didn't help. 3) No w-fi. This was a big problem for me because I depend on wi-fi to send files from my iPhone when I'm abroad. 4) The reception is only open 7:30am-9:30pm. Unfortunately I didn't know this and when had to check out the hotel at 6:30am, nobody was there but I needed the receipt. I kept calling them like 5,6 times during their business hours on 3 different days but nobody picks up the phone. It's really hard to get hold of the receptionist even though she was extremely pleasant and friendly. The building itself is cute, cozy, and quirky, and I would've had a nicer experience if it wasn't that loud at least. I still need to get hold of the receptionist and ask her to fax/email the receipt to me. It's a shame because people who work there are really NICE, and I would like to give them higher rating but as a conscientious Yelper I must be objective. Sorry!

Horrible, Dirty, Deceptive and Overpriced. Those are the good comments I can say I'll keep the rest of my comments to myself. Even if you are on a budget do yourself a favor and look elsewhere - anywhere else! They lied about the room the amenities and nearly everything else. This lovely alley in Photo 1 shows the door to my room is next to the silver ashtray butt holder. Yes right outside the bar in the alley is the entrance to my "Queen suite" (no joke). Inside in Photo 2 you see the brightly lit suite (if you want Queen you just push the beds together). Can't wait for the noise to begin tonight I am sure this will be very relaxing

If I could pick zero stars, I would. After travelling to the city all day, via go train, bus, Subway, and Uber! to see a concert with my 67 year old Mum. It's currently 4am and we're sitting in a Tim Horton's after returning to our room and an infestation of 500 ants (so wish I was exaggerating) I suffer from SpA (peripheral spondyloarthritis), Optical Nuralgia, Fibromyalgia and CFS, and it will take weeks for me to heal from this. My poor Mum is so tired and I am angry. We were told they have "never heard of ants there " yet I just read another comment mentioning them. I'm in agony. 2 hours left to wait. What a joke. Save yourself the suffering and..Go elsewhere!

Just finished staying a week here and had a great stay. Room was clean and service was great. Continental breakfast was fresh and well stocked. Staff friendly and the pub next door was a welcomed plus. The only negative was the mattress which has seen better days. But the location was excellent and would stay again without hesitation. Good value for downtown Toronto in a nice, quiet area (ask for a quieter room to avoid overhearing the pub) with affordable (sub-$20) parking in a beautiful building with dated (opposed to historical) amenities. Continental breakfast is included with your stay, as is a coupon for the restaurant/pub. Apart from checking in and out, in a separate building altogether, you'll not see anyone from hotel. You are on your own, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The internet in the room didn't work, however I was able to pick up an open access point.

Wish I'd read the reviews more thoroughly, but I fell in love with Madison Avenue and the hotel and pub buildings. Our room is on the 4th floor on the opposite side of the pub, and was almost 80 degrees when we arrived. We couldn't figure out the thermostat and finally managed to get the ceiling fan started and the window opened wide, so it's cooling down a bit except in the tiny bathroom (note there's no toilet paper holder - the room is too small). Will be an interesting night since there is a large piece of plywood between the mattress and the box spring. Perhaps another visit to the pub is in order. UPDATING to 3 stars: No back pain in the morning after all, and as I look around a bit more I notice that everything is very clean, especially the myriad carpeted steps - pretty amazing - and the rooms can't help but be a bit cramped because of the Victorian architecture. I also got a nice tour from Milan of the rooftop bar area since it wasn't open the day we were here - great place for an after-work happy hour.

The Madison has been a staple with young university crowds looking to hang out amongst each other and have a number of pints of beer or or a bite of average pubfare. The bar is interesting and has three different levels to explore. From an interior design perspective, it´s like old victorian bed and breakfast meets Norman Bates. The room I stayed in had a decent layout and promised to be comfy enough. Located across from the bar adjacently connected via a short pathway between houses, the room featured generous mirror in entrance area, two single beds, a fridge and decent bathroom. I expected it to be loud and that did not pose any problem (ear plugs), however, the room was by far the dustiest I have ever stayed in and I do have dust allergy - hay fever problems. A friend of mine next morning asked me which drugs I did to look like someone had punched me in the head multiple times. There were many cobwebs in the corners of the wall and celing, there was a pronounced layer of dust on pretty much all the furniture surfaces, the rug was old and heavy and the heating vent featured a thick layer of dust and dirt. I can excuse almost anything, but a room priced at $125 before tax per night needs to be CLEAN!!

If I could I would have given this place a zero. The front reception office smelled like urine. There was no place to park our car except for a sketchy parking spot behind the "boutique hotel" We stayed in our room for approximately 10 minutes before deciding that we did not feel safe in the area we were in and that the room and hotel description were nothing but trickery...shame on you! The dumpster outside of our window was disgusting! We went back to the reception area and turned our keys in and told her we were not comfortable staying here. The receptionist apologized but we were not offered a refund, she's just a kid working there, why should she!

The location is great, the staff is helpful and polite, and the bones of the hotel are good, you can see how it could potentially be a charming boutique place. But the place was disappointing, borderline icky. The sheets and towels were all clean and fine, bed was comfortable enough, but the room itself and the furnishings were not very clean (stains on carpet and lampshades, grime in corners, etc). Music from the nearby bar continued late, breakfast was uninspiring. I don't think I would come back.

Very low key...very clean. A touch noisy as it is a 'happening place' at night. I would recommend this place ad the price is right. Toronto is the cleanest city I have seen in years!

We came up with a new name for this hotel - the Skimpy Arms. The water pressure is skimpy, the towels are skimpy, the bedding is skimpy the "breakfast" was definitely skimpy (cold cereal and sad muffins with dishwater-weak coffee). The ice machine was out of order, the coke machine was broken. The blinds were bent and the pictures were fastened to the walls with big screws through the frames. The "king sized" bed was two singles pushed together with a sheet overtop. Spadina station was next door, so you had the subway shaking the building every 10 minutes. I left a muffin in a paper bag in the room overnight because the breakfast was pathetic and was halfway through it in the morning before discovering the ants. Not sure how many I ate, but they were everywhere. The bar next door was hopping, so there were crowds of partying young people on the street and parked behind our room, so what looked like a quiet street wasn't, really. We did get a coupon to eat at the restaurant, but it was smelly and dark, so we went elsewhere. The best thing about the place is the location, so if that's your priority, this might be for you. Otherwise, don't bother.

As my cab approached the Madison Manor Boutique Hotel, at first I thought "what lovely Victorian buildings", but then noticed the Greek symbols on many of those lovely buildings. Oh no! I am on Fraternity Row! Not so fast! What a surprise, and what a delightful gem to find in Toronto! Fraternities DO line the street, and the adjoining pubs DO fill up with mostly college-aged students. But someone put some time and effort into sound proofing at the Madison Manor. I stayed on the ground floor for 3 nights, while attending an academic conference at the university. I needed to be up early, and I have to say that not once was I awoken by noisy students or revelers. And the World Cup had just started! To top things off, as I checked out, the woman in reception helped me to get a flat fare cab to the airport, trying several different companies before she was confident she was getting me the best rate. The cab arrived early, I was ready early, off we went. Some 10 blocks away, the dispatcher called my driver. I had left my passport at the hotel, and the front desk wanted to alert me before I got too far away. Outstanding accommodations, outstanding location, outstanding customer service. Well done, Madison Manor, and thank you for the passport retrieval!

the hotel room was nice but the location isn't. the hotel has its own pub which is nice but the partying from the pub and the college kid's houses across the street created yelling and horn honking until 3am. we didn't sleep well. fortunately, they let us cancel our 3 night stay after the first night.

Overall we were expecting much more from our stay. While the rooms were clean and exact representations of the pictures on the website, our room was subjected to ridiculous noise pollution. It was far greater than 'city noise' and kept us awake until 3 a.m. There were masses of intoxicated college students shouting and fighting on the street and there were no measures to alleviate this problem. Similarly, we tried using our 12 dollar voucher at the pub but could not find a place to stand, let alone sit, in order to use it. Lastly, while the parking seemed convenient and reasonably priced my car was badly scratched due to the 'along the side of the building' parking lot. Assumidly, we were very disappointed with our stay and grateful we had only booked one night there.
