"On Madklubben’s website is a manifesto that sums up its philosophy: “to offer excellent food and drink for an unusually reasonable price.” That’s not an idle boast. You can get one course for 100 kroner ($16), two courses for 150 ($24), or three for 200 ($32), featuring dishes such as mushroom pie, veal with pickled beets, and cured cod with horseradish cream – a great deal in a notably expensive city (with well-priced wine on the menu, to boot). The original venue, Madklubben Bistro-de-Luxe, is still going strong in central Copenhagen near the Queen’s Palace, and there are now several other locations scattered around town."

Going for dinner with 8 colleagues. It was an extremely hot evening. The windows barely open. When we asked to open them more the reply was no. We can't there are tables outside. Even though no one was sitting there. The place was a sauna. The wait for drinks and food was extremely long. The staff started friendly but I'm guessing the heat got to them too. The food was chicken chips snacks and lobster on toast. The sauce was watery and made the bread wet. Steak for the main course. It was not a great cut and difficult to cut using a steak knife. There was also a large chunk of fat which I couldn't eat. And I eat everything. Cheese for dessert. That was nice. E different cheeses. The water for the table did not have ice cubes so it was warm water. It was a hot, long and unpleasant evening for me.

The whole experience was good - from food to service. We had the lobster bisque and tartar for starters and steak + fish for main. We loved the fish dishes.

It’s the most convenient restaurant for having a meal with family or friends. Reasonable prices for Copenhagen, great service and nice wine list. The staff was very helpful, well worth visiting

Cool experience overall. Was with a large group so we had a fixed menu. Food was very good. Service is excellent: spot on attentive waiters. The crushed potatoes provided an intersecting experience as a mix of mashed potatoes with larger pieces with potatoskin still on giving it a good mix of textures. Worked nicely along the cod fish.

Very cozy atmosphere and nice music. Loved the steak and whiskey sour!

Very good restaurant, located in a very quiet area full of restaurants. The service may be a little slow, but it is compensated by a very pleasant atmosphere and excellent quality of the food. The staff was always nice to us and with a smile on their face. A bit expensive but it is worth it and in the normal range of prices un Copenhagen. Recommended!!

Yelp
On our last night in Copenhagen after a day shopping, we were looking for a restaurant and my friend recommended this. It was about 8:0-8:45 pm. We did not make a reservation and went directly to the restaurant to see if there was availability and we told no. My friend looked online and was able to book a table online for 9:30 pm and she went in to clarify with the hostess that there was no availability USG that time when we asked. Anyways. After 5 minutes, the hostess called us for our table. We were seated in an area that was open with only a few tables taken. It was a set menu for appetizer, main course and dessert. We asked if we could substitute dessert for an extra appetizer and was told yes. We wanted to try the tartare but they ran out and had no more. We ordered a bottle of the house red wine which was good. We had the Jerusalem artichoke soup, the glazed beetroot and the seared scallops as appetizers . For the main course, we ordered the fish, veal breast, roasted pork breast and the fish. We shared all these dishes so that we could try a bit of everything. For dessert, we had a lemon fromage and the Mazarin cake. All the food was delicious and so tasty. The veal breast was a little bit dry but the flavours were good. The fish was excellent and cooked perfectly and the pork belly was really good. The lemon fromage was so light and was not sweet and the Mazarin cake was really good as well. What a great find and great way to end our trip to Copenhagen. Wish we were able to try the tartare. Our waiter was excellent and we had fun with him. Will definitely come back next time in Copenhagen as the price was very reasonable.

Yelp
Madklubben is a chain but oh so special yet it's probably my favorite out of 'em. You can find good value and deliciousness at Bistro-De-Luxe. And the patrons here are neighborhoodies, tourists and business people. It is tight so if you're a claustro, not for you. I love this place though, because food is well-priced, light, well made, simple, delish and phreshhhh! --- Scandinavian phhhressh! Prices depend on how many dishes you down and I love that, it's very common in Copenhagen. Now this is a very busy resto, so if you're expecting 4 star service, it's not that kind of place. It feels like a neighborhood resto so it's chill, low key and no pretense. Food: The house bread here is a bit different lookin' like a loaf, a knife through it and a butter dish on a carving board and is placed on your service first thing. Looks barbaric but the bread was so so good, hearty yet crusty and light at the same time. Danish butter with that? Was freakin' in heaven. http://bit.ly/1NYVKfU We had some delicious charcuterie with cracklins', http://bit.ly/1RdtHtB a really nice veggie dish (Jerusalem artichokes, raw apples, charred onion w/ cress). Denmark is one of those places where a veggie dish is not only a work of art, you relish very nice and original flavors. She added a fish to the plate (nicely made) and I was just in heaven. http://bit.ly/1jS5bQm A Danish ale with this and I was in Cloud 10. http://bit.ly/1IIHMfR So so good. Coming back. Visits: 1 Tip: Resto is packed, the tables next to each other, are spaced akin to dining in Paris. This is a fun bustling establishment. If any of the above are OK with you; you will adore Bistro-De-Luxe.

Yelp
Booked online only hour before on a Monday night. Arrived nicely greeted and instantly shown to a table. 85% full. Had a starter of beef tartar, yum and forget to take a photo! Good meat with flavoursome radish, shallots with a fine spray of mild paprika, good size portion that I swapped half way for half of my hubby's goats cheese dish which was great too! Had Poussin(chook) for my main, nicely cooked with a crispy skin. Well priced for Copenhagen, 1 course for 100kr, 2 courses for 150k, 3 for 200kr. Good value and menu changes depending on local ingredients. Would visit again. Nice decor, good service, decent wine selection. We didn't have room left for dessert but they looked nice on paper!

Yelp
I hate to give this low a review given how good the Madklubben restaurants (Steak in particular) usually are but the whole experience was disappointing. Of the various staff that served us one had her act together, the rest were a mess - breaking crockery, dropping silverware left and right including a knife on my leg, mixing up our order and generally confusing things. The quality of the food itself was decent/good with the steak being properly cooked and delicious. Unfortunately the rest of the experience including their handling of my lactose-light requirements were a complete disappointment. Happy to eat at Madklubben again but it won't be at this location until they get their act together.

Yelp
Taste: 7-8/10 Value: 7/10 Service: 10/10 Came with family, ordered 1 appetizer and 4 mains. Pork shank appetizer - very good mashed pork shank with a mustard sauce on the side. Their complimentary bread was actually quite soft and good as well. Lamb - standard lamb with a light sauce Veal - looks like pulled pork with some veggies on top. Nicely seasoned and I actually like this better than the lamb. Different seasoning Vegetarian option - very yummy cabbage + sweet mussels ! Surprisingly good.

Yelp
The madklubben chain usually does not disappoint me. This one too is very cosy which you would never guess just by looking around at the street. I like what they have made with the place with its minimalistic and Nordic decor. It is a quite large place but you might have to sit very close to someone as the tables have been set up in such way. Regarding the service I can't say it was for 5 stars. They forgot one order and the food was very late, which the waiter made a comment on. Well we were not in a hurry so we just enjoyed. The wine was amazing, we bought a bottle of the cheapest red wined from chile for 200dkk. Regarding the food, I can say I was not amazed from the starter and the dessert. But the main course was delicious. I had the ribs as a main and lain my opinion the meat was well prepared and the flavors matched well together. All in all a good experience and I would go back to another time to try a new menu.

Yelp
I visited Madklubben Bistro-De-Luxe in September 2009. I had a five day vacation in Copenhagen. After eating in the touristy areas for a couple of nights, I decided to wander off the tourists' paths, hoping to find something local and interesting. I initially walked about a restaurant with a decent number of eaters there but I decided to walk a little far before making up my mind. I walked by Madklubben and was immediate attracted by the crowd and the nordic menu. There was no table available, but I was offered the bar counter. I was told I can still order anything on the menu. I reluctantly took the recommendation. In hindsight, one of the best decisions I made in my Copenhagen trip. I picked three items+dessert: terrin: confit of chicken - raspberries - water cress beetroots: with goat cheese - hazelnut vinaigrette cod rissoles: pickled chantarelles - corn - tarragon "koldskål": buttermilk - black currants - meringue - biscuits The terrin was beautifully presented (I'll try to post the photos) and delicious. The beetroots was cooked just right, and was very refreshing with the hazelnut vinaigrette. The goat cheese brought up the flavor without bring overly salty. This dish can be found in many places but this had to be the best I have had. I was told to try the cod rissole and it was also delicious, with good texture, not to mention healthy. The waiter told me to try "koldskål", a Danish dessert. It was slightly bland but I appreciated the recommendation nonetheless so I got the chance to try a Danish dessert. The waiter who served me took the time to chat with me a little and asked about my trip. He recommended me to visit Malmo, which I did. He told me about his transportation to work, etc. The costs of the meal was very reasonable in Copenhagen. Many buses will drop you off in that neighbourhood so transportation should not be a problem. It was a memorable meal with good food, pleasant conversation and great travel recommendations. I will definitely go back next time I visit Copenhagen.

Yelp
Madklubbeen is apparently a local-quality chain in the area. I'd say it's worth a try for any tourists who happens to be around. I was here with my family earlier and it definitely lived up to its quality/budget goals. Presentation for the food was interesting, while the staff remained very polite and attentive to us. I didn't feel intimidated at all by the staff and crowd, and that says a lot from an Asian family with no history of Danish cuisine history.

Yelp
As every Madklubben in Copenhagen it is average. The food is OK and the service likewise. Do not recommend it for a special occasion, go for a weekday dinner with a friend who isn't a food critic.

Yelp
Very nice meal in Copenhagen for a good value in comparison to all the other incredibly expensive spots in the area. 175 DKK for a starter and a main course. Very reasonable for a "fancier" restaurant serving up quality meals and reasonable pricing

Yelp
Visited this place when I visited Copenhagen a few days ago. The interior where great would call it Scandinavian and clean. Modern but bit old influences which where something I really liked. The concept is that you choose how many courses you will eat and that it's a "base price" for all of this. 2 courses = 150 DDK 3 courses = 200 DDK 4 courses = 250 DDK Smart en simple. Then you add om extra if you want something more fancy or so on. This means that you most likely will pay some extra for the food anyway in order to get what you really want. However the "basic menu" is real good. I ate the starter of the day which is form day to day and for this I payed some extra and it was good. Then I had the main course with chicken which where absolutely good but not the best main dish I've eaten. And the I had the cardamom ice cream and cake desert which tasted great. To all of this I had a nice glass of Italian wine for the price of approximately 90 DDK. The taste experience where good and I liked the food but it was nothing special for me. I would love to say that it was great but it was good or even very good but not more than that to me. I would however warmly recommend it and with the prices taken into account I would definitely recommend it. Not often you get three courses and wine for under 50 Euro or 500 DDK anywhere in the world.

Yelp
Although I frequently complain about how expensive it is to eat (decently) in London compared to the U.S., I really am speechless when it comes to Danish prices. The going rate for a mediocre burger in CPH is something like 20 USD, which is absurd. With that said, Madklubben is really good value for money....especially in this city. The portions are generous, and the food is excellent. Flavours are simple, but fresh, and 2 courses are generally more than enough to fill your stomach (but I always find myself ordering more....). I can also say that their rye bread is amazing! Best rye bread I have ever tasted in my life! Everytime I come back to CPH, I always try to find an opportunity to dine here :) I feel now that I should really branch out and try some of the other restaurants like Geist or Fiskabaren, but from a price perspective, Madklubben is probably the best.

Yelp
I've never seen service at this level anywhere. My understanding is all restaurant staff in Copenhagen do not work for tips, but rather, earn a healthy living wage (much above the USA $15/hour standard). Therefore, no tips are expected (or even accepted in some establishments). No wonder everyone is so happy here! I'm not sure if the Danish economic system could work in larger countries, however. But it truly works here. Fascinating. And the food is not bad either at this place. I had "The Menu", a 3 course meal with 3 glasses of wine. Scallop appetizer, ribeye steak with mashed potatoes and raspberry sorbet.

Yelp
I was there with a large party of around 20 people all having the same menu - which was a requirement from the restaurant. The only exception was the vegetarians who were allowed to have a vegetarian option. The first dish was a simple and really well prepared cod. I am not a big fish eater but this was really good and not too overwhelming. The main course was pork cheeks. when pork cheeks are well done it is absolutely wonderful - and these were the dish consisted of four very well prepared pieces, a strong sauce and some vegetables. we added a rustic mashed potatoes, creamy and all together a full meal. The dessert was a walnut mouse. Tasty but maybe slightly too sweet with with nothing to balance the meal. But overall a really good meal. the place were also very accommodating. we were a large group with a tendency to get a bit loud. but we managed two pop quizzes with no comments or anything from the staff. the only limitation is the time - we only had 2 1/2 hours - but even there they weren't being hard when it took us a little longer to leave. a really pleasant place and to the price hard to beat. would go there again and still thinking about that main course.

Yelp
A gem of a find in CPH. We arrived just in time to get a table-the place was packed. Not only was the food delicious, the presentation was lovely. The design of the space was interesting-minimalistic at times, decorative at times...all in all eclectic but nice. The menu is also available in English & has a lot of great vegetarian and carnivore options. We loved the vegetable dishes, the bread, cheese plate and the wine. Pricing is reasonable and a steal for Copenhagen: one course was 100 Kr, two for 150 Kr, three courses were 200 Kr and four courses for 250 Kr. Great part of the city too!! Will definite return!

Yelp
I have been here countless times and also at the other Madklubben restaurants, but this one is the best in my opinion. The value is great if you don't get any of the upgraded dishes, which is quite hard to skip by. The food is modern danish cuisine that's consistent and a refreshing take on what new danish food can be like. The staff is professional and welcoming, and the atmosphere is very casual. This is a great place for friends to go out as you get great value for your money.

Yelp
Exquisite meal! White asparagus and smoked pork appetizers were excellent. Clear onion soup were beautifully presented, although flavor were a bit strong. A delicious and very interesting meal.

Yelp
The service is very nice but the food is kind of salty. I would recommend the crab soup. Sooo delicious and as well as the duck breast!!!

Yelp
Always great food for a great price. The food is creative, well prepared, and tastes great. The staff are really, really friendly, especially Olli the head chef. Highly recommended!

Yelp
I have been to the others, and this one is ok, but not my favorite. The value for money is there, but the service leaves something to be desired. It's fine and if you are not sure where to go in the center to get a decent meal without spending a fortune, it's fine, but try the other locations before resorting to this one.

Yelp
Great a little more on the fancy side than the one Vesterbro but the food is also great!! The wines are also very good. Love the place and you can get a lovely dinner and not go out broke like in most restaurants in Copenhagen

Yelp
Small portions, took quite a bit of time to be ready. The chicken was good, nothing special. The service was excellent and the ambiant was very good. Well located and average pricing

Alex B.

Yelp
Excellent, unique food at a reasonable price. We had the quail and pork belly and both dishes were fantastic.

Yelp
Yum - excellent food and great value. We had the salt cod to start, pork belly for main. Both excellent!

Yelp
Sensational! The food was absolutely delicious and great value for money. My partner and I got two courses for 150 DKK each. So much food, which was beautifully presented and full of flavour. I would highly recommend this place!

Som S.

Yelp
Nice, upbeat atmosphere. Very good food. It was very busy the night we went, and they were clearly short-staffed. The service was painfully slow, but it didn't appear to be the fault of the waitstaff, who were working hard and just covering too many tables. Good place if you aren't too hungry or impatient.

Alexey U.

Yelp
The main experience out of the whole dinner was disappointing. I would suggest visiting another place and maybe giving a try to something outside of this chain. This is the first time when I experienced rude service in Copenhagen, but the food was good though not demanding and just in line with the expectations. If you are ready to ask for your main course at least 4 time and wait for it for 1.5 hours constantly receiving an answer from a waiter that it is on its way, you are welcome to visit the place. It takes a bottle of wine to receive a main course, so be ready. Maybe this bottle of wine made the food taste better than it was... Don't wait for excuses, you won't get any, probably just a rude answer that it was your fault or maybe no answer at all from a rushing waiter. The service has spoiled the whole experience, so I recommend to lower your expectations to anyone taking a risk of visiting this place. But honestly, there is so much to visit in this city. No more madklubben for me.

Heather O.

Yelp
A small but perfect bistro-style menu. The food is fun and inventive and well-priced for Copenhagen cuisine. There's a fun vibe (hip but not hipster), solid wine list, and the food is fantastic. They take ingredients that would otherwise seem mundane to another level of taste, texture and flavors. We had the onion special (basically four styles of in-season onions) as a main course and it was phenomenal - who would have guessed?! The rhubarb dessert was out of this world. The staff from the front of the house were all great - especially when I had to ask the host which logo on the bathroom doors was the mens' and which was womens'.

Em B.

Yelp
Our party tried the pumpkin bisque, pork terrine, chicken, fish of the day, and a potato side dish. Good flavor on all, particularly the pork terrine. We left satisfied, but not full. Two courses and a side for 425 DKK... which is pretty good for Denmark! I'm not going to rave about the place, but we were satisfied and the ambiance is nice.

Robert A.

Yelp
Made a reservation for 3. When we arrived we were told the reservation was only made for two. As we were shuffled off to a small side room away from the main part of the restaurant, I showed the confirmation email which was for three persons. The young woman then said, "Oh, the office changed it." Huh?? The food was mediocre at best and though the waiter was nice and earnest, he was very green. Then service all but ended as it was clear the staff was busy trying to clean up and go home. When we finally got our waiter back we asked for the check. Instead of going to get it, he proceeded to clear our table, scraping plates onto one another with a knife as he did so. Would not go back.

Jeff K.

Yelp
Very mediocre. Service was terribly slow. Food at best low average. There is the pretense of a bistro without either the cooking skill or the first class ingredients. For example a cod preparation buried in dill that completely overwhelmed both the fish and the accompanying peas. In our group of 5 neither the first course nor the main course for all of us made it out together. For the first course two people's plates came 15 minutes after the first three. For the mains one plate arrived more than 10 minutes after the others.
