Located beside the museum and gardens. Visited on a Friday evening, the restaurant was quite busy and we had a short wait for a table. However once seated we were served promptly, food was freshly cooked and hot. They offer the option to bring your own bottle of wine. Lovely relaxed atmosphere.

Fair prices and excellent service. The location is great. After your meal you can go for a nice stroll at the botanical gardens or the Ulster museum (free). They only take cash, if you only have euros, you can exchange your money at the post office right in front. The food was excellent and the service was quick. The milkshakes are huge and the Irish breakfast was super tasty. Really recommend. Bring cash! Full vegetarian menu available!

Maggie Mays Stranmillis is usually dead on. Dining in can be very busy, but the wait for service, drinks and food is never long despite this. Usually good quality cafe food. My go to is their Veggie Fry, though they've changed the veggie sausages they use and I much prefer the previous ones. We order for delivery often and only once have we had an issue. Back in March 2023 the restaurant must have run out of their usual cardboard boxes as our food came in plastic containers which just did not work. The food sweated in these plastic containers and just was not their usual standard. We ordered chicken goujons too and their texture wasn't right, a bit rubbery. We have not had an experience like this again and Maggie Mays has been their usual good quality standard since.

Brilliant cafe with gorgeous vegan food. Special shout out to Shannon whose customer service is always impeccable. Shannon went above and beyond when there was a problem with my order, quickly making sure it was quickly sorted and made to perfection. Really appreciate it! X

I've been to two of these restaurants now and this was by far my favourite out of them. The servers are so polite here and the atmosphere is great, the place, while cosy is also very nicely decked out. I would absolutely recommend the biscoff milkshake. We also got the southern fried BBQ buffalo. The chicken was a little overdone but the flavours were amazing.

If you're in belfast you have to go to maggie mays for lunch, they have 3 locations with the nicest staff and best food. A wide variety of vegetarian, vegan and also gluten free food is provided. Definitely one of Belfast's most iconic cafes. They provide a range of food so there will definitely be something for everyone!

When I say iconic, I mean it! No where does it better, from the Big Mags to the milkshakes it’s got it all and the pricing is amazing. If you haven’t been I highly recommend it, if you have then you already know. Ginger Shannon was great craic, 10/10 🙌

Yelp
Excellent and timely service. We had an extenuating circumstance that the baristas dealt with promptly. We were met with such graceful and respectful hospitality. Our hot chocolate was magnificent.

Yelp
We were staying nearby and stopped in for breakfast. The restuarant is really cute and cozy. They also have a number of vegan and vegetarian options. I got the veggie fry which was all in all very tasty. The vegetarian sausage was a bit mushy but other than that cannot very enjoyable. We also got a mint aero milk shake which was also very tasty, not too sweet. It is huge though, so I'd recommend splitting it. With the generous portion sizes and reasonable price I can see why it's a popular spot among students. Would recommend!

Yelp
Oh dear :( Disaster here. Went on Sunday lunch time. Had to que over 20mins. When we got seated we waited for someone to take our order. Then I had to go to find someone to take it. Drinks came. Then after one hour we still had no food. 2 other tables that came in after he where served. Had enough waiting around so went to find the staff to find the food. There was no explanation given to why we didn't have food except that they must have missed us. Was a simple order of 3 frys.Manager apologised and said it was ridiculous us waiting and said she would not have waited that long. Meal was free. When fry came girl apologised. I had to ask for the pancakes on two of the frys as they had been forgotten. Staff where not very tuned in and quite abrupt in their mannerisms. Manager was in the kitchen as they where busy. But not out of the ordinary for a Sunday apparently. When leaving there was still a que outside yet tables free inside. The place could have been cleaner also. Heard one of the staff remind another staff member to clean the table to which they replied sure the food is more important :/ Food was ok. Have had way better tasting frys. If you want basic home cooking and don't mind compromising on the place check this place out. But be prepared to wait. Has a massive menu. Also big milkshake menu. The shake was nice enough though no major taste of the choc bars that where in it.

Yelp
Big shoutout to Maggie Mays- a local chain in Belfast. As an American over here for a year Maggie Mays has been a delight in terms of food, quality, service, location, atmosphere and more. This store in particular gets slammed w students and the staff handle it VERY well. The food is oh so good and it is very affordable--which is particularly helpful to a large student and working class population. They also have generous portions i mean goodness the Bumper Fry was intimidating but oh so good. Love love love Maggie Mays and appreciate the staff very much as well. --Note: wait to be seated and its cash only.

Yelp
For dinner, we went to Maggie May's. We were starving, so we ordered separate entrees [which is something I don't advise doing. Our eyes are always bigger than our stomachs.] My husband had the Veggie Fry with two eggs, soda bread, potato bread, pancake, hash brown, mushrooms, tomato, beans and veggie sausage. There was a noticeable lack of sausage. I order the Champ Vegetarian Sausage and Beans, but I received a Veggie Burger instead. We were both too hungry to bring up these points, so we just ate our food. We got a really tasty milkshake to go [don't ask me where we got room to fit this in our bellies.]

Yelp
I was delighted to find another Maggie Mays location the day after eating on Botanic Ave! Same deal with cash only but very fair prices. There was a bit of a lunchtime wait here but the line moved quickly. This time I split a full Ulster fry, veggie soup, and Hair of the Dog shake with my hubby. I don't think we ate anything else that day. The pies in the display looked amazing but stomach had reached capacity. Now I'm craving a milkshake with Bailey's a few thousand miles away...where can I get one here?

Yelp
I have eaten a few times now, usually the service is pretty good. This time, though, has been shockingly bad. We arrived before two groups which arrived 5 minutes after and the second group 10 minutes after us. The first group got their order in before us (10 minutes after we had sit down) at which I had to flag down the waiter to take our order. Second group comes in and at this stage the 5 minutes group have been served their drinks. The second group gets their order taken and with a couple of minutes they have their drinks and knives and forks and still we are without any. They then served the first group their food and still we're left waiting. Our food was eventually brought out. I then talked to the waitress about why it was taking so long to get anything else. She has to ask what drinks we had ordered and explained that somebody was very busy making drinks. It would seem he was too busy getting the orders of the groups who came after us. Though not sure how he wasn't able to handle a filter coffee and an orange juice, inbetween the smoothies that the others had ordered. We got our knives and forks when the drinks came and finally we were able to eat, but I couldn't help notice the waitress I complained to go back up and have a little laugh with another waitress which I can only assume was at our expense with a look being passed our way. The original server walked passed which I had caught eye contact and he had a little smirk on his face which was very infuriating as he was the one that completely messed up our orders. I have not had such a bad experience ever in any restaurant, and usually I wouldn't have to face such bad service in here. I would blame it on the fact that they were full, but they had served two groups who came after is first. Food is what is giving this a 2 star. Also no apology was offered.

Yelp
I visited Maggie Mays today for the first time with colleagues. I wouldn't recommend it when you are in a hurry e.g. your lunch break is "only" an hour :) It was very busy, so service was quite slow. You have to wait until seated, for me it seemed a bit strange for such a small cafe.. Also, they don't split the bill - I know it is not a big deal and I guess they are trying to save time with this but still a bit weird. Food was nice, piping hot and of a generous size, although they do not serve burgers for lunch - which is exactly what I was planning to have after giving up my diet. :) Might be back some time to try other dishes.

Yelp
Tasty, stodgy food. Relaxed student feel to Maggie Mays, however it can feel a bit cramped sometimes when busy. Very good selection of veggie options and I've had the veggie fry in past which is excellent and very filling. Veggie lasagna and wraps etc are tasty too. Not a place if you're on a healthy eating kick - but good, filling grub. Shame there's no wifi...

Yelp
Maggie Mays is cheap, cheerful and filling. Perfect wee spot for a hangover cure if you're just looking a bit of stodge. They have a good varied menu (I had Lasagne and garlic chips) and the food tastes exactly what you'd expect from a 'greasy spoon' style café. Hot tasty and comforting. Its by no means fine dining, but sometimes you are just in the mood for the basics. I'd say if you are going to the Botanic or Malone one over a lunch time, don't go on your lunch hour as it is very busy during term time and the service can be a bit slow.

Yelp
Wasn't busy at all,at about quarter capacity full, no queue.took nearly half an hour for them to take our order (after I went in after twenty minutes and asked that they did so) finally got our meal another twenty mins or so later.the order was wrong.at this stage I was so hungry and fed up I just didn't eat it and didn't want to wait again for the replacement that was offered.they didn't charge for it or my drink.boyfriend ate his meal as he was starving after waiting an hour but food sub par. No explanation or apology for the wait when I asked that they take our order.saw two other tables sit outside and then leave without being served either.later met them in the botanic Inn up the road where we had all gone to get food.its a pity as I used to love Maggie Mays in botanic.maybe it is just this branch that is lacking?

Paul F.

Yelp
Maggie Mays in Botanic was a student staple for filling tasty food at an affordable price. This later branch not quite in the same mould. The layout and service are lesser but coffee and food are still pretty good

Yelp
We were originally trying to go to the location across from the Botanic gardens, but they were closed. With heavy hearts, we began to traipse back to our hostel feeling defeated. Then, lo and behold, we turned down a different street, and much to our pleasant surprise, stumbled upon a different location. After all, we were able to experience the joys of Maggie Mays. Service was super quick, cheap and delicious. Great coffee, and would recommend the New York breakfast of a toasted bagel, cheesy scrambled eggs and ham bacon. Changed my life and were in and out in a half hour - great morning stop if you're on your way to the train out of Belfast. Super friendly staff too. Long live Maggie Mays.

Yelp
Maggie mays isn't a bad spot for greasy hang over food and you can tell because every time you go in you're surrounded by students and non students alike all looking like death warmed up, if your are hung over and looking for a cheap greasy feed to bring you round then this is your place to go.....if not then look else where...there are many other classier places to have breakfast or lunch that are worth the extra £1 or two per head.
