I love that Magic City gets to host so many great events. I don’t live close enough to attend, but it is nice they bring people to Oklahoma. I love their recommendations. I do agree though, with the comment below, that out of every bookstore I have been to, this one is the least friendly. I wasn’t greeted or acknowledged the 30-45 min I was in the store. I was by the cashier looking at signed books and I made comments to him, and he nodded, basically. He never asked if he could help me or any of the other people who came in the store while I was there. I have been to this one 3-4 times and I am not sure I have ever had a great experience (other than the selection). I love how they feature Oklahoma authors.

Fulfilling a birthday request. My daughter collects unique, regional/city themed, decorative, book bags and shopping bags (e.g., Trader Joe’s.) We fulfilled the request for a bag from Magic City Books. After a stroll through the shop, perusing the wonderful, enlightening, subject matter, I was unable to find a copy of this months “Guns and Ammo.” I surmised that this was not a book store for me. Oh hell, who am I trying to fool….I can’t read anyway…but I do like the pictures!

Super cute book store with tons of options. Loved popping in while in Tulsa and supporting this spot.

I always enjoy supporting local businesses, so I was excited to discover a neighborhood bookstore right downtown. As an avid reader, I appreciate the unique charm of small, independent bookstores and look forward to the personalized experience they often provide. Unfortunately, Magic City Bookstore did not deliver on this experience. Upon entering, I was not greeted and spent about ten minutes browsing aimlessly before approaching a representative for assistance in finding a specific title. Although I understand that my book may not have been in stock, I would have appreciated guidance on related options or suggestions within the same genre or subject area, but this wasn’t offered. Bookstores like this face strong competition from online retailers, and a warm, engaging customer experience can make all the difference in drawing patrons back. To the owner, I’d suggest a few ways to improve: 1. Greet patrons as they enter. 2. Offer assistance proactively. 3. Share recommendations to showcase the store’s collection. I wish the business the best, but I am unlikely to return based on this experience.

Love this bookstore. Clean and cozy, set up perfectly for either browsing or finding that one book you've been looking for. The workers are friendly and helpful, 5 stars!

Google
This is my go-to bookstore. The one where Amazon gives you one of those targeted ads and you think “yeah, that book does look kinda cool. Thanks, Amazon.” Then you go here and buy the book there instead. And because you’re there already who ever heard of buying JUST ONE book? The staff are incredibly kind and helpful. The way they’ve laid it out I’ve managed to find new books I wouldn’t have found before. It’s airy and inviting and the place that new books like to show themselves off.

Great little space, light airiness all about. There's plenty to choose from and if not here is the most helpful extremely delightful people working and visiting. There's a children's section. I'll be back. Story time is every Monday. They serve coffees to Marshals Beer, & a small selection of wines there's even free Wi-fi.

Google
This little bookstore brings a fun communal feel to the already growing Tulsa Arts District. The store has children’s books, big coffee table books, and everything in between. If you stop by make sure to grab a coffee or beer from their bar, they’ve got quite the selection.

Yelp
I enjoy browsing this local bookstore. They have several different bookclubs to participate in and often bring a variety of authors for special events. The parking is street parking only. The staff is lovely and super helpful. To support our local bookstore, you might spend more for a book than if you grabbed it on Amazon or Barnes and noble, just a tip in regards to pricing. They do offer a membership that provides a discount and other special features, ask them for more details. I do love the Oklahoma history and local author section. You won't find every book but they can order you must books that are available, it just might be a special order. Definitely enjoy wondering the aisles and picking up a few books. Happy reading.

Yelp
I am so happy our city has a book story like this one. I just feel so calm every time I enter this space. I attend a monthly book club here and I have been to one of their adult book fairs.

Yelp
Magic City Books is located in downtown Tulsa, diagonally across from Holiday Inn Express with street parking available (metered, but free on weekends after a certain time at night). I came by this bookstore with my husband and our little girl dog (yep this bookstore is dog friendly). We came on a Friday night and surprisingly there was a local author who just had a reading and was sticking around for autographs and answer questions for guests (I am not familiar with this author and do not recall the name). This small bookstore looks to only sell new books (I really love venturing to second hand bookstores because I am always able to score some really great deals and often times hard to find books or books out of print). I ended up finding a few books in their small clearance section (by the front of the store, if you go left when you enter, there is a small bookshelf and some tables and chairs) that were a really good buy (one book was ~75% off and another one I bought was ~55% off). I honestly probably would have bought more books but since we are traveling and not from the area, I am a little limited as to what I can bring back in my luggage. The employee at the register told me that books make it to the clearance are books that may have been on the shelves for a long time and no one is buying them or could be that they may only have 1 or 2 copies of that book left and have no plans to reorder. If I lived in this area, I would most likely check out the clearance area first (and often) before venturing the rest of the store. Overall, had a great shopping experience.

Yelp
Great little store with wonderful selections! Locally owned supporting minorities by featuring authors you may not hav heard of before. They also support other local businesses and non profits.

Yelp
Came across Magic City Books when.eating nearby and it such a lovely bookstore. There are all different types of book options and the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. My favorite space is in the back of the store where there are tables and they host live author readings. They have a cute book "tree" of all the authors that have completed readings at the store. Definitely come by and check them out!

Grace H.

Yelp
For a smaller bookstore, it carries a great selection of books! I always walk out with way more than I anticipated purchasing when I enter this store. I know that I can always find great books that are about Tulsa and Oklahoma history, black and brown authors, and inclusive and diverse children's books. There are also great gifts in here. This is a great spot to pop into for a gift for someone, including yourself! Staff are super friendly, helpful and they know and love books and are happy to give recommendations!

Ashley T.

Yelp
I love to purchase books that are not outrageously priced and you don't have to order them. They have a Greek mythology section that I love.

Yelp
Love love love this book store! From its cute, cozy vibes to the selection of books! My favorite spot was the reading nook in the back where there were cozy green chairs! I loved their selection of stickers, postcards and magnets also. Will definitely return!

Ashley K.

Yelp
Matt was super helpful in the store and providing recommendations for places to go nearby! The store has some really cool book options, definitely a must check out

Yelp
Took a family vacation to Tulsa a few weeks ago, and we were lucky enough to be staying in a hotel that was kitty corner to Magic City Books. We had planned to visit the bookstore later in our trip, but as luck would have it the local news station did a segment with Magic City Books. We made this our next stop. Book shops have always been Magical to me. I love libraries, book stores, chain and independent, isles of books in any box store. I love the smell of the books; the texture of the pages; the jacket covers are the liner notes of my youth; I love the first "crack" of the book spine in opening up a new book. Magic City Books does not disappoint. Books upon books reach up to the high ceiling. The children's section is filled with wonderful selections, such as The Big Book of Birds, where you can learn that flamingos will pee on their legs to stay cool. My daughter selected three other books, along with the bird book. I had my eye on a few Oklahoma authors and added to my cookbook collection with four books of my own. The staff was very inviting, knowledgeable and friendly. The selection of books is very impressive and has many off-the-beaten-path offerings. Get out there and support your local book store to keep the Magic alive.

Yelp
The best little independent bookstore in Tulsa! Probably Oklahoma! Entirely possibly the world. The people who work here love books. I know because I used to work with some of them at Barnes & Noble . They have such a fun range of gifts and books and are willing to order pretty much anything you want if they don't have it in the store. I bought an amazing pair of The Monster at the End of this Book socks and I think they're going viral on my Facebook lol. My friend and I enjoyed strolling through here and buying a few things. Check it out!

Debra K.

Yelp
I love independent book stars and I'm glad we have Magic City in Tulsa. I have been wanting to visit for ages and finally got the chance before dinner. (They are open until 9 PM.) I loved wandering the stacks and although the selection is not that of a mega store, I found lots of things to covet. This is most definitely going to be a date night stop for us.

Sheri S.

Yelp
Visiting Tulsa, working with a group of physicians and clinical pharmacists, I told them I forgot my e-reader at home. "What's a good book store here?" A variety of voices shouted out in unison, "Magic City!" What a great bookstore and charming. I loved it. And the staff were so helpful, answering my questions and patiently directing me about. I found a wonderful book through their staff picks. Shout out!

Megan S.

Yelp
I love this local book store. They have an entire section from local authors and books about the area. The employees also help you find books. In the middle of the store, there are tables of books regarding topics or emerging authors. They are limiting the number of people in the store due to COVID which is really nice.

Christy J.

Yelp
Has a great little atea in back to enjoy visiting authors talk about their books. Some parking on the street.

Nat A.

Yelp
First time visitor. The most delightful independently owned bookstore! The only thing missing is snacks and drinks. I spent a lot of time chatting with the owner. He was super helpful and Just a cool guy. They had a robust section of local books and local authors. It was Pride Month and they offered a colorful collection celebrating the rainbow. The store has a small private room for special events. This location is nestled in downtown Tulsa which appeared to be experiencing tremendous growth. Lots of shops and eateries. No pix, but the location has a good vibe. They do enjoy mask wearing which I appreciate.

Meagan G.

Yelp
Cozy non-profit bookstore! Their non-profit supports the local creative spirits through arts and literature. Really enjoyed looking through their "bumped and bruised" 25% off rack. They offer other cute items, like pins, shirts, and totes.

Stergios B.

Yelp
A great bookstore! We already own too many books, but the selection here compelled us to buy even more. Excellent young adult and children's sections. Plenty of graphic novels for readers young and old, and an extensive array of local interest books. The employees were friendly and helpful, and I loved the whole inclusive vibe. Support local bookstores as fantastic as this one!

Jeff M.

Yelp
I had to go here after seeing the review by Lori T. Wow her review was wrong in every way. What a great place! Great Staff! Everything was the exact opposite of Lori T's review. Overall i was amazed by the selection of books and everything about this bookstore. Not a single complaint. Will be back several times to this amazing book store.

Yelp
I heard of MCB because an episode of a podcast I listened to was recorded there and with some time to kill I decided to go visit. They do a good job with the space, with the stacks on the perimeter being fairly high, it is on the smaller side but that makes browsing through so much easier, and the little touches, hand written signs for the shelves makes you feel like everything here is thoughtfully done. After going through their shelves and getting that guilty feeling you get when you walk into a shop you like knowing you're not going to get anything I decided to make a purchase at their coffee counter...also I needed a caffeine fix, kind of. I got an iced green tea and then sat in their reading room. Remember how I said things here seemed thoughtfully done? They easily could have filled this space with more shelving but the fact that they didn't and purposefully left an area for reading and a small stage with two chairs for discussions/events made me appreciate the place all the more. I lounged around a bit more, just soaking it in and when the ice finally melted I left.

Cathy B.

Yelp
Super cool place. I took my granddaughters for storytime and they loved it! This was my first time here and I will definitely be back. Service was excellent, the story teller was great. They have a variety of events, even poetry night. I was excited to see the book selections too.

Lori T.

Yelp
Whenever I come to a new city or town, I immediately scope out the local bookstores. I was excited to try this one. Upon entering, the atmosphere felt unwelcoming. One employee acknowledged me, but it almost felt begrudging, like he didn't want to. I walked in and out of the aisles for a bit to see if I could find anything I wanted to purchase. From the selection of books to the signs and posters on the walls and windows, the whole store seemed to be focused on a political statement. If you are into political statements you may enjoy a look here, if you are not, I believe it's a miss. I value a nice selection of books from a wide range of hobbies and interests, along with some uniquely local representation. The store is small, but it could be so much better.

M. R.

Yelp
This was the first place I stopped in Tulsa after a long car trip and the environment was so calm and pleasant. They have a variety of uncommon titles that were organized into contained sections, and the customer service was excellent. One worker saw that I was considering a particular book, then gave me a suggestion for another title he thought I would like, but avoided being pushy about the sale. When I asked if they carried a specific title and he informed me that it wasn't released in stores yet, he still took the time to go back and look up the exact release date for me. If I lived in the area I would recommend this bookstore to everyone I know!

Seadonna A.

Yelp
Very small bookstore, not much selection, they no longer have the coffee shop... won't go back, lady working was nice enough and it was very clean, but very disappointing... not a friendly inviting atmosphere, most decor was politically loaded and would discourage many customers...I'm all for being inclusive but this was shoving it down my throat...

Jordan S.

Yelp
wonderful little bookstore in downtown Tulsa. They have a curated selection with something for everyone, and host authors year round - even now, virtually, with COVID! The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. An added plus, they offer "solo shopping hours" for patrons to come with up to 3 members of their immediate household to have the bookstore alone to safely shop for hour intervals if you sign up in advance, and also offer care packages, curbside, online ordering. It's worth the day trip from OKC just to come here! Highly recommend

Jedediah B.

Yelp
Looking for a little light reading... need a book special ordered... trying to get your pup more sophisticated? Check out magic city books! They have something for everyone!! Instagram.com/Kekoa.li.ili.i

Yelp
Nice little book store. However, while I was enjoying myself looking for just the right book, I was startled by a worker yelling from across the room to a customer to wear a mask. I looked around for the culprit. Who would have the audacity to violate the rules, when masks are provided? I was even more shocked when I realized she was yelling at me! How could this be? As I gazed at this lady with my properly fitted mask (covering mouth and nose) I began to try and figure out just what I did wrong that would cause such an outburst. I will admit briefly throughout my journey for a book I would pull my mask down to sip my coffee (mocha latte w/ oat milk- 5/5 would recommend) but would immediately pull it back up. I explained I only pulled my mask down to drink at which she responded "you can't even do that in here, that why we had to shut down the cafe!" Pro tip: That's a key bit of information customers with coffee will need to know going forward. So to help out fellow book lovers who might visit this store going forward I will clearly define the expectations. 1. Wear a mask- too easy! We're all in this together. 2. You can enter store with a drink. Hydration is the key! 3. Don't dare sip that drink while in store! Huh? Note: The entire time I was being yelled at from across the room about not being able to drink in the store, she had a water bottle in her hand.

Tiffany F.

Yelp
I love this place. Besides a great selection of books and book-related gifts , they have a coffee counter with alcohol and tons of interesting events with authors, especially a lot of local authors, and many are free. It's not huge, but the displays are always fun to look at, and there is some comfy seating by the windows where you can people-watch. Definitely follow them on Facebook and subscribe to their newsletter so you can be the first to find out about events, which sometimes sell out.

Brooke M.

Yelp
Fantastic service, every time I visit the team is so helpful, kind, and respectful. The selection of books are famtastic, it's so clean and well organized. Makes it so easy to support a local buisness!!

Bracken K.

Yelp
While small in size, the place has a great selection. My favourite, the graphic novels, were well stocked with a lot of great titles. They have a large space in the back with tables and chairs that one can sit and read at or drink coffee, etc. There is a coffee shop inside the store and the smell was amazing. It's nice to have a locally owned bookstore downtown. This is my new favourite bookstore.

Maggie W.

Yelp
Beautiful shop, well curated collection, nice selection of local authors, knowledgeable & helpful staff, cool cafe. Deffinelty worth checking out for all bibliophiles.

Lisa S.

Yelp
Possibly my new favorite store in Tulsa! What an incredible staff, and a superbly curated selection of books. One of the first things I noticed was the number of local authors they carry, as well as really interesting titles that I had never seen elsewhere (see: the amazing children's book section!). Next time I plan to sample some coffee to caffeinate while I shop. Definitely check out Magic City if you find yourself downtown!

Shannon T.

Yelp
This is a fairly small but quaint book store downtown. They have coffee, tea, wine, and a few pastries for purchase. I felt like they had reasonable prices, except on the wine. I had a Chai latte. It tasted as I expected it should and was the perfect temperature for immediate consumption. We sat at the seating area when you first walk in. They have several small tables. As you walk through the store they also have round crochet pillows for seating anywhere. Word to the wise- Pay attention or you could trip over someone's legs. At the back of the store they have a small room for events. This is where we ended up for Karaoke poetry night. I'd say 15 or more people got up! All different perspectives, all different works. Very enjoyable. We will be back.

Nadia G.

Yelp
Always friendly staff and a great selection of well-curated books. The reading room is quite fabulous to grab a book, get a coffee, and get some book love on during the day!

Tyler H.

Yelp
A cute little non-for-profit bookstore, Magic City's book selection is not extensive, but it is pretty relevant. Lots of good little things to get, too, like pins and bookmarks. The real quality about the place is it's accessibility and service, as well as its ties to the town's literary society. We were just in town visiting, but it would have been great to try one of their author events!

Samantha K.

Yelp
A much needed spot in Tulsa! When you walk in you're immediately greeted by the staff and offered a refreshment. So nice! While the book store is small in size, it is definitely not lacking in book selections. There is a nice variety of genres. I love that there's an Oklahoma Author section for those who like to read locally. A gem of a bookstore. I can't wait to go back.

Lollie M.

Yelp
An absolute gem. Located at the edge of the Brady Arts District, this indie bookstore is our magic. It's everything you want in a bookstore--selection, customer service & a rotating selection of highlighted books. Monthly readings & special guests makes this a must see in Tulsa.

Whitney W.

Yelp
Cutest little bookshop ever! Worth a trip every time I'm in Tulsa! Staff is also super knowledgeable and great with recommendations.

Jordan H.

Yelp
Such a cool bookstore! So many of the books had rare or alternate covers. It reminds me of a smaller version of Powell's in Portland. Definitely wish this place was bigger!

Jill P.

Yelp
This is such a lovely little bookshop! It has a thoughtfully curated selection of books. I especially appreciate their children's section--there are so many good quality titles to choose from. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful (and generous--the last time I was in, they showered my kids with stickers). A wonderful place to spend an afternoon!

Myrna B.

Yelp
Staff is so nice and helpful plus the atmosphere perfect for exploring books and the worlds they take you.

Bridget B.

Yelp
It's a very quaint little book store. Seemed to have a good mix of all the classics and the new "big thing" books that everyone is raving about today. Easy to navigate, friendly folks, and if I lived closer I bet it'd be a great place to go for me to study.

Brian J.

Yelp
We just went for the first time today and loved it. They have a great selection of books and the store is laid out very nice. The owner was friendly and helpful. We're looking forward to going back and getting a cup of coffee to spend more time there.

Shannon K.

Yelp
MCB is small, but packs a punch. Expertly curated, it truly has something for everyone. I would honestly read every book in there if I could. Recently I moved to NYC, but I always stop by MCB when I'm in Tulsa. I'm so happy this place exists!

Yochabel U.

Yelp
Stopped on in when visiting Tulsa on a field trip and my students, some of the other teachers and myself just loved this little book shop. I am all about supporting local bookstores and this store just had so much going on I loved it. I purchased a Dad Jokes book and a Harry Potter t shirt that says "Reading turns Muggles into Wizards" and I was an ultimate hit all weekend. My students and I were telling Dad Jokes nonstop! They are small so I was told that they may only carry 1 copy of select books, which makes sense because you don't want to be stacked up with a book if it isn't going to sell. They have a cute little area where you can sit down and there is also a back section that looks like it can be closed off but I am not entirely sure. I loved how they had tons of book suggestions around the shop from their employees and it really went into such great details for their WHYs. I wish I had this bookshop closer to me here in California so I could spend a decent amount of my paycheck here.

Steve H.

Yelp
I stopped in here because my wife loves books. The staff was friendly, helpful, and informative. Next time I'm in town I'll come here for the coffee shop and friendly atmosphere.

Chris P.

Yelp
Good coffee and a good book selection. If they would dim the lighting it would seem much cozier but overall I really like this place.
