OMG, if you're in Summit and haven't hit up Magic Fountain yet, what are you even doing with your life?! 😍 This place is pure summer magic in a cone! I swung by on a scorching afternoon, and even though it’s a walk-up window spot with no indoor seating, the retro vibes and outdoor benches make it the perfect chill spot. The smell of fresh waffle cones hits you right away, and the staff? Super friendly, like they actually love their job. I went for the chocolate chip cookie dough sundae, loaded with hot fudge and whipped cream—decadent but not cloyingly sweet, just pure perfection. The strawberry scoop was so fresh, it tasted like it came straight from a farm. And don’t sleep on the soft serve twists—legit some of the best I’ve ever had. Prices are solid (under $10 for a stacked treat), and they’ve got dairy-free options for my lactose-intolerant friend who tagged along. Pro tip: Hit up the toppings bar—it’s a choose-your-own-adventure dream! Left feeling like a kid again, no regrets. Whether you’re local or just passing through, Magic Fountain is a must. Summit’s hidden gem deserves all the hype! 🌟🍦 #IceCreamHeaven #SummitEats #TreatYourself

Google
Honestly, it was pretty average. I had ice creams with better flavor and texture.

Samantha Donovan

Google
My favorite ice cream place! Most reasonable priced ice cream place in the area. Lines can get a little long, but move quick. It’s totally worth it!

Ramarao Talluri

Google
Right place for a quality and tasty homemade ice cream.

Google
I don't understand the ratings this ice cream shop has received based on our own visit. The ice cream was super soft and marshmallowy, which is a mortal sin in my book. I had vanilla chip and coconut on a chocolate cone, and truly regretted eating it. I actually would have preferred to have never visited, and I really, really love ice cream. My son was equally unimpressed by his Oreo cream and cookie dough. My wife thought her mint chip and maple walnut were passable, at least, but she's also the least discriminating of our group. If you think I'm just "that guy" who is never satisfied in reviews, I encourage you to look at the other 30 or so ice cream reviews I have...

Google
If you miss the old school ice cream store, you have to head over to Magic Fountain! They have the favorites like cookie ice cream sandwiches, ice cream cakes but also slushees, cool cones options and so much more. It’s cash only in you’re ordering in person . Fast service too

Google
We have been enjoying this gem of an ice cream shop for decades. Nick and his family treat you like part of their family. The ice cream is homemade. The cones are homemade. The brownies are homemade. There is a theme here. You are in for a gastronomic desert delight! Get to Magic Fountain today! I promise you will want to come back again and again! So many flavors and so little time. Thank you Nick and family for keeping the tradition alive! God Bless America! God Bless Blue & Gold! Remember Everyone Deployed Everyday!

Google
Great spot in Summit, been here forever. Always a line but it moves pretty fast and they have a huge selection of items. Good to have the wait to decide! Especially like the banana ice cream with Nutella - sugar bomb but super tasty!

Yelp
Yoooooo --- Magic Fountain is my *ish. Cash or Venmo only is interesting. Love watching the Boomers get confused. All worth. Delicious.
google avatar

Karina U.

Yelp
Got a coffee ice cream with whipped cream, fudge and chocolate sprinkles. The ice cream itself was way too sweet and tasted like a latte more than anything. Not strong on the coffee flavor and not what I was hoping for.

Ellen M.

Yelp
BEST ice cream place. Magic Blends are the best. Visit it once a week, in the summer.
google avatar

Yvonne Z.

Yelp
Great list of flavors, awesome people serving and at a very reasonable price as well. Twi thumbs up

Yelp
Plenty of parking . It is Cash or Venmo only - just for a heads up. A great variety and they truly pack their sundaes! We really enjoyed coming here- the ice cream is very creamy. We had more than enough between two little girls and two adults, we got a waffle cone and a sundae and packed the waffle cone in a cup and brought home. Even though it rained outside shortly before going and the tables were wet, we sat on the brick wall and still enjoyed the ice cream. Highly recommend and decently priced!

Yelp
Ice cream itself is fantastic! Prices went up, portion sizes went WAAAAAAY down. What a shame... thankfully they're not the only game in town.

James D.

Yelp
We lived in Summit for a few years and our youngest child was born there. However, she had never been here as we moved when she was a year old. Recently came through town and treated her to a delicious treat in her homw town. Still great!
google avatar

Mike A.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the selection of ice creams and cones at Magic Fountain. Was understandably very crowded when we went, will definitely need to go back to try out the different flavors. The ice cream was creamy and just overall delicious. The prices were not super high which was great and loved that I could pay by Venmo. There was also quite a bit of outdoor seating which was nice. Give this place a try!

Yelp
Omg u guyz i might have to switch my go-to ice cream from zita's to here... idk why but i was reluctant to go back to mf for so long prob bc of the line but the ice cream texture here is SO good and creamy without feeling too too heavy. The black raspberry chip is an absolute dream and they have good crunchy fresh tasting waffle cones. Worth the wait and the prices arent too bad either - we got "smalls" in waffle cones w. Two flavors and it was a hefty amount for 5 bucks!

Yelp
As I recall MF was founded by rogue Dairy Queen franchisees who objected when DQ went to lower fat ice milk rather than ice cream. In any case, they do a nice job with my standard vanilla soft serve with hot fudge and wet walnuts.

G C.

Yelp
It is true that the portions may be smaller than 20 years ago, but it's still plenty (and given my aging 20 years, I've needed to downsize too.. lol). The quality is still good. We only order soft serve so only can speak to that.

Yelp
I'm not one to write a review when I'm unhappy with an establishment because I always think that perhaps it was just me or just this visit. But I don't think this is the case this time. My husband and I brought our nephew here for ice cream because we had had been passing Magic Fountain so many times and saw long lines and this time there was almost no one there so we thought we were in luck. The first thing that bothered me: signs in the window saying "Cash or Venmo only." Cash only is a pet peeve of mine. It's 2023 and we have suffered through a pandemic where we have learned the importance of minimizing unnecessary contact. CONTACTLESS payment is the wave of the future, not something to be avoided. As for Venmo as an alternative: not everyone has or uses Venmo. But guess what. Almost everyone now has a credit card or debit card! Luckily I had cash on me or I would have not been able to treat my nephew to ice cream this night! The second thing that bothered me was the service. I inquired what "chocaholic" referred to and asked if it meant dark chocolate, chocolate with chips, or something else. The cashier asked another person behind the counter who pointed to the window, to which I just gave a puzzled look and my cashier said, "the ingredients are on the window." At this point, I'm at the register and about to place my order. What help is this now? And why can't I get a simple answer to a simple question. I didn't want an ingredient list, just a simple statement as to what chocaholic ice cream was. The last thing that bothered me was the quality of the product. We got soft serve vanilla and soft serve twist. Well, the vanilla had no taste. Instead of vanilla, it tasted like a creamy frozen "Cool Whip." The chocolate was a bit better: at least there was a hint of chocolate flavoring, still overpowered by an almost greasy creamy taste. Soft ice cream is something I have loved since I was a child. This was perhaps the worst I've had. All in all, I'm disappointed with this establishment: food quality, service, and payment options. I am amazed at the crowds it garners on a warm summer night, but certainly not amazed to ever go back for ice cream.

Peter B.

Yelp
Great service. Excellent soft ice cream I've had ice cream in a lot of places and MF has got them all beat.

Yelp
I heard lots of great things about this place from some of my friends, so I decided to come and check it out. The location is outdoors, but there is a solid amount of tables and seats. The staff was super friendly and do their best to be as efficient as possible. I ordered a medium cup with rainbow sherbet, peach, and mint oreo. I thought the ice cream was quite average. I didn't think anything about the ice cream popped out at me. It was like any hard ice cream I tried at other places, but definitely at a cheaper price. I got a medium for $4 which includes tax. At other places, a small can go up to $5 -- so I like how this place isn't too expensive. I was able to share a medium with my boyfriend and feel satisfied at the end with the amount I ate. I will be back here for ice cream because it is a lot cheaper than the other ice cream places I have been to. Also, this place only takes cash -- so don't forget to bring cash.

Yelp
Hands down this place makes the top 10 homemade ice cream list. Their homemade ice cream is so creamy and tasty. If you're a rocky road lover like me then I highly recommend the moose tracks. They also have Italian ices and the options for milkshakes and ice cream sandwiches. Their waffle cones really set them apart as they have so many different types. Can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Kara D.

Yelp
Ice cream is great - service is terrible. The teen girls have a iPods in and are very rude when you approach
google avatar

Kate S.

Yelp
This place is awesome and super hopping! There's a long line but do yourself a favor and wait it out! Delicious ice cream and I totally recommend the magic blend if you saved a lot of room for dessert. Yummy in my tummy!

K M.

Yelp
Great ice cream but the portions are chintzy! Now we go to Scoops in Chatham where the ice cream is fantastic and portions are generous.
google avatar

Sejal S.

Yelp
Drove by this place and saw a huge line of people so I decided to stop by and try this place. I will say the ice cream was huge for the price and pretty good but nothing specifically stood out to me. I would say it was good, and will probably be back. The staff was super friendly and accommodating as well.
google avatar

Michael J.

Yelp
Ice cream is good but the service is terrible. I took a minute to read the screen to decide what I want and the server lost her patience and lashed out like a toddler. Extremely rude for no reason. Don't go. Good ice cream but not good enough to have that much of an attitude.
google avatar

Jillian S.

Yelp
Really good Ice cream! I've only had the soft serve with peanut butter sauce, but the peanut butter sauce is too good to pass up. The price is reasonable as well! We live 25 minutes away and every now and then will make the trip for ice cream :)

Ann W.

Yelp
My family and I have been going to MF for years. The brownie s'mores flavor was my favorite. It was amazing! Heavy on the graham cracker flavor--outstanding. I ordered it last week and was convinced they had gotten the order wrong. It tasted NOTHING like s'mores. It tasted like bland vanilla with some brownie and chips. We went back tonight and I asked for it again. Same thing happened, only this time I caught it before we got home. We asked what happened and were told they changed the recipe. Would have been nice if they had mentioned that--put a little note next to the flavor that says "new recipe" or something like that. I personally think this is a big mistake. Their old recipe for brownie s'mores was the best I've ever had. So disappointed.
google avatar

Annie A.

Yelp
Busy place in the summer with online ordering for quick and easy pick up. The portions were pretty large and the toppings for ice cream were tasty. Decent ice cream parlor in the area.
google avatar

Susie W.

Yelp
I grew up going to Magic Fountain as a treat! Their ice cream is great - hand made and you can taste the difference! I'd recommend a magic blend - soft serve and toppings layered together, but this is big so be prepared to be stuffed. They also list special flavors in the front window and you'll find some special fun flavors there. I've also had their ice cream sandwich which is sooooooo good!! A little on the pricier side for ice cream, but it's worth every penny.

Michael D.

Yelp
Magic Fountain is the only place in the area that still knows how to make a good real milkshake!
google avatar

David Z.

Yelp
Creamy, smooth, and delicious ice cream. Each time I order makes me want to return immediately. This order I got the Magic blend with vanilla ice cream and m&m's . It's basically a Flurry but tasted much better. Most of the m&m's sank to the bottom so by the end of the ice cream I had to eat a ton of chocolate. While that sounds great I wish it was more evenly distributed.
google avatar

Yelp
Throwback, "walk-up" cash only ice cream shop. No indoor seating, though there are plenty of picnic style tables that turnover quickly enough. Friendly, efficient staff. Yes, the line can wrap around the building. However, they usually have at least 4 windows open and the operation moves along fairly quickly. Prices are not unreasonable. Portion sizes are quite generous. Probably could use a few smaller sized options. Lots of leftovers getting tragically put in the trash. Ample selection of toppings. Adequate selection of flavors for hard ice cream--could probably use some more soft serve options. The ice cream is good. Not the *best* in the area, but a tasty local option. Parking can be a challenge during the evenings, though the surrounding local business don't seem to put up a fuss when they are closed.
google avatar

Christine L.

Yelp
UH-MAZE-ING ICE CREAM. magic fountain is a magic mountain in my mouth. YUMS. seriously. one of the best in the nation. i can't even right now. PROTIP: cash only. PROTIP2: line gets long in the evenings / summer time. be prepared to wait! ive only ever gotten their ice cream (soft serve is the celery of desserts). it is creamy. it is great quality. a small is ALOT. are you getting what you pay for? yes. is there other stuff good? probably. but im one of those fake foodies that if i get something i super like, im gonna order the same shut every time bc why be disappointed?! #yolo. parking is rough in the actual parking lot. feel free to park down the street or around the corner across the street at the park side street parking and walk over. if its a nice warm day it shouldn't be a bad walk! walk off those calories man! quick, friendly, delicious service. a MUST VISIT if you're in the area! just a short trip right around the corner from the short hills mall.
google avatar

Sheila R.

Yelp
Local ice cream gem is the favorite spot to go. CASH ONLY! CASH ONLY! CASH ONLY! Expect fast moving long lines in the summer. Delicious ice cream, both soft serve and hard, as well as shakes and novelty items. A bit on the pricey side, but well worth it.
google avatar

Alyssa E.

Yelp
I agree with everyone that says the ice cream is good, but I personally don't think it's anything special or different than the average ice cream shop. It's a short drive from the short hills mall, so I always stop by when I get the craving for something sweet. Parking is rough especially in the summer when school is out. I usually park on the street next to it, to make it easier to drive off. There's always a long line and lots of kids running around so drive carefully! Service is mediocre, they seemed to be unorganized and they were running all over the place. Always a long wait even with a small crowd. The picnic tables on the side were not well-maintained the last time I went. They were sticky and there were melted sprinkles all over the seats. It isn't always like this; I guess I came on a bad day. Would recommend coming during off hours.

Funko F.

Yelp
Best ice cream around by far. Been coming here for years and it is always a treat. Would highly recommend if your in the area.
google avatar

Katrina C.

Yelp
Hade ice cream here on a sunday night around 7:30pm. There wasn't really much of a wait and you can order online on the website mficecream.com for a contactless ordering process. I ordered a small cup with chocolate peanut butter and coffee ice cream (1 scoop each). The chocolate peanut butter was so good !!!! Coffee was ok but the chocolate peanut butter was amazing! Wish they had lactose free options though.
google avatar

Cassie C.

Yelp
This is probably my favorite ice cream in the area. I almost always order a strawberry sundae with vanilla soft serve ice cream. Because of this, I'm probably not the greatest person to give an opinion on all of their ice cream varieties. However, if you like vanilla soft serve ice cream, I also recommend the chocolate dip or rainbow sprinkles with the ice cream. In terms of taste, I don't think you'll be disappointed. The line is usually long but appears to move quickly. I am a little concerned of the line being a safety hazard since it's located on a busy street. Also because of the line, finding parking can be tricky some times. My only other complaint is that the picnic tables and eating area can be messy, but I also understand why. The staff is mostly serving ice cream nonstop because of how busy it gets there, but it would be nice if it was slightly cleaned better.

Amanda K.

Yelp
Literally my favorite ice cream on the planet. Always fresh and delicious. Been going here since I was a toddler with my family.
google avatar

Joe V.

Yelp
That ice cream is so good here! A lot of people recommend the magic blend which is like a Mcflurry with many options for toppings. The smallest size is $5.50 and it was huge. They should have a smaller size as it can get be hard to finish even though it was so good.
google avatar

Justine B.

Yelp
I was really craving ice cream after a bad week at work. So, I decided to go to a childhood favorite and drive the 20 minutes to Magic Fountain. Before I made my husband go all the way to Summit, I checked that they were open and if their website had any Covid updates. There were none so we left. We got there a half hour before closing. Luckily, there were only a few people in line. I stepped up to the window order and started placing the order. The girl stopped me to say that they are only doing online orders and that the wait for those is 50 people deep and I probably didn't want to wait that long. I was SO disappointed. If they are only doing online orders, they need to put this on their website so people know. So, before you go, please your order online. You've been warned.
google avatar

Eva D.

Yelp
If you want the best homemade ice cream ever, go to Magic Fountain. Their prices are low and everything is amazing! They offer online services as well on their website at www.mf icecream.com so you can order ahead and pick it up at the window!

Yelp
Ice Cream...is there anything that soothes the pain of a loss for ANY sport more than ice cream? So, we were in Summit last week and my daughter's field hockey team got beaten up and she needed something to get over it...and there was Magic Fountain... In a nutshell, the ice cream here is pretty good and they have a selection that is pretty extensive. I like that their soft serve sin't too airy (one place by me puts way too much air into their ice cream and makes it more like a mousse. This was our second time here at Magic Fountain and I think the next time we are in Summit for a game, win or lose, we will probably be back. My only complaint was that the lines were pretty slow moving...I don't know if it was because the staff was slow or they were really busy (or both), but they did seem a bit slow. Easy to get into and out of, prices are reasonable, really good soft-serve, and a great selection. I'll be back.
google avatar

Pasquale R.

Yelp
The local community loves their Magic Fountain and they love their community back with giving back. Their ice cream is average - I know I am going against everyone else on here. They only accept cash. There is ALWAYS a long line...regardless of time of day. They have a good selection of flavors of their hard ice cream. Their quality is not on par with Denville Dairy...I have spoken and the masses may disagree...
google avatar

Abelle N.

Yelp
One of the best ice creams I had in awhile!! Yummy!! They defiantly don't make ice cream like this anymore!! Everything about this place is pretty awesome... The lines are pretty huge...there is sooo many flavors to choose from..anything you can think of that involves ice cream in it .... you can defiantly get it here.... The multiple variety of flavors is so over whelming... Sooo many to choose from... You don't even know where to start... I got the orange and cream with vanilla...two scoops... With a waffle cone ...It was like one of the best ice cream I ever had... The orange and cream is nice and light flavorfully...the vanilla is light and also creamy... Cost around four bucks...four bucks of yummy goodness... There was many people come here getting there daily scoops of yum... Kids and adults seating outside enjoying there ice creams... There's many outside seatings... About Seven or eight... No restrooms and no restrooms... Be aware this place can get really crowded...

Yelp
Ok so exploring this tiny town was fun, there are some hits and there some misses!!! But the Magic Fountain, this place is a must go and from what I've read, it's staying around, which is something that I love!!! YES the line does get loooooong, but no worries, it moves pretty fast! I honestly can't tell you what is the best thing on the menu because I have not tried everything (which will happen, I assure you), but for now I'm stuck on the Italian Shaved Ice and the Chocolate Shake.
google avatar

Wisteria W.

Yelp
This place has been my jam since the 90s, back then they used to have ninja turtle pops with gum eyeballs however my go to is their soft chocolate ice cream topped with hard shell chocolate on top a safe bet for those who have gluten sensitivity! I have yet to find a place that makes soft chocolate this damn good! During the summer their lines can be long but it moves pretty quickly because they have three open windows, either way I don't mind the wait, it's nice to be outside and enjoy the summer nights.

Lily A.

Yelp
I'm still dreaming about this ice cream. Luckily there wasn't much of a line when I went, although when passing this place, I notice quite a crowd. I ordered the brownie s'more & OMG. SO de-lish! My bf ordered half Cookie Monster, half salted caramel. Those were good contenders but do yourself a favor, get the brownie s'more hard ice cream.
google avatar

Jacquie G.

Yelp
**Andrew G is spot on -- cash only** My one and only experience was remarkable. The line at this place is always out to the street. The night that I visited there was no line at all around 5:30pm..just before the after dinner rush. Immediately impressed by the offerings. Soft serve, homemade hard ice cream, dipped cones (all different interesting flavors), Italian ice, shakes and much more! I jumped at trying the chocolate peanut butter ice cream. WOW! The flavor of the peanut butter matched with the richness of the homemade chocolate ice cream immediately sold me!! Had a kids scoop on a sugar cone with chocolate sprinkles. I am sure the kid's scoop is just as generous as the small size. For my husbands large shake and my cone it was ~$5.30. I thought that was pretty cheap! Another positive!
google avatar

LeNard H.

Yelp
In my opinion, this is the best Magic Fountain. They know milkshakes! I had a blueberry shake that I am still in an awesome mood to this moment. I used to come here with my dad years ago. As a kid I thought it was the greatest place ever.I figured that I'd feel differently as an adult. It felt like 1989. That says a lot about the business. Keep doing it!
google avatar

Nick M.

Yelp
I work very close to this place. Probably have had 100 ice creams Here over the years, Always been happy with the service And product.

Brittany A.

Yelp
Ordered from magic fountain today... a chocolate blendi with recesses cups. Pretty sure the recesses cups were bad it tasted like soap. When I went to ask for another an older man behind the counter gave me a hard time. Very disappointed with the customer service however a younger gentlemen did remake one for me.
google avatar

Ari A.

Yelp
best ice cream around! Well worth the wait! Get a shake, cone, frostee, sundae, toppings, etc. Love the ambiance - old picnic tables for you to sit at. Cons: Remote area Only open in the summer
google avatar

Caralyn S.

Yelp
Great little ice cream spot. I had vanilla soft serve blended with coconut and banana - soooo good! Portion size was quite large for a small. My husband really enjoyed his mango gelati (soft serve mixed with Italian ice). We don't live in the area, but found this place after making the trek to Ani Ramen from Sussex County. When we find ourselves back in Summit, I would definitely go to this spot again!
