The Magnolia has all the bones to be a great boutique hotel. It has beautiful architecture, and the original parts of the building are interesting, like the ceilings on the ground floor and the elevator interiors. Sadly, they skimped on the room design. I've stayed in a prettier Motel 6. The only things I liked were the garden tub and the water pressure. The furnishings look like they were bought from another property's renovation. They were a variety of woods and didn't fit the space well. One of the headboards was crooked. I really think this hotel could be a hot spot if they put some money into the interior design and a cool cocktail lounge. We were wondering why it was so inexpensive, and now I know why. The location is great. it's near a lot of good restaurants and bars.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!! This was by far the worst hotel experience I’ve had in a long time. While the evening front desk staff and valet were friendly, that’s about the only positive. I arrived at the hotel around 8pm and checked in after multiple calls beforehand to confirm the room conditions, which I was assured would meet my expectations. However, when I got to my room, I was beyond disappointed. I spent the next couple of hours trying to switch rooms, but none were satisfactory or anywhere near what I was promised. The rooms were in such poor condition that I didn’t feel comfortable staying even one night. I decided to cancel my stay, fully expecting a refund for at least a portion of the week I had paid for since I didn’t stay at all. Instead, I was only refunded for one night, leaving me out nearly $700 for a stay I didn’t even experience. The management’s response was that they “don’t refund for some scratches or unsatisfactory items in the room because it’s an old hotel.” For a business in hospitality, you would think customer service and cleanliness would be priorities, but that was not the case here. I’m extremely disappointed with how management handled the situation. I would strongly advise against spending your money at a place that doesn’t value its customers or care about maintaining its standards.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed my stay here. Valid, only an overnight. But! The gym was with a great treadmill. If I needed to do laundry, that was an option. Near by had great food. Staff was outgoing on every level. Plus- my room had a tub & it fit my body. I’m 5’8!!

Such a nice hotel! All the staff has been awesome especially James at the front desk! We had an issue with the location of one of 3 rooms and he was able to fix it quickly and kindly. It’s in a great location close to everything and a quick easy walk to the convention center. Would 100% come back and recommend this hotel!

Google
Reading all these reviews about the great location and yes, it’s centrally located, but I’m not a very safe area. You walk outside this little people screaming that are homeless and on drugs. It was more of a stroll through dawn of the dead or zombie nation. The hotel is very nice architecturally however, the rooms are very skimpy. The beds are not comfortable And I’m the whole. It’s kind of a bizarre atmosphere.

1st off, location is great! I would definitely stay here again for the location. Customer service for this to be a "luxury" hotel, needs some work. Check in was quick, front desk person had attitude and was not friendly. I get it, busy weekend with Christmas Parade and all, but to be the 1st person for communication for check in, customer service needs to be better. Rooms were quite big, stayed in a double queen. Heater wasn't working so it was freezing. After noticing it not kicking on, reported it and they had to come and fix it. Called 4x times to request more towels and toilet paper and not once did we receive it. Had to go down to the front desk and get it ourselves, and this is after seeing housekeeping 2 doors down from us. We had no idea the Christmas parade was this weekend so parade literally started practicing at 5am right outside our room window. That was inconvenient. Valet guys were great! They were by far way nicer than the actual staff of the hotel. Always had a smile and everything. 5 stars for location 3stars for everything else.

Google
This is a beautifully renovated and restored hotel. The room was quiet and nicely appointed. I stayed in a suite with kitchenette and separate bedroom. The shower experience was very good, bed and bedding were very comfortable. Several restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance, as well as a CVS. I highly recommend this hotel for any stay in downtown Dallas.

The photos on the website are not a true representation of the rooms; we were catfished! The initial front desk staff was not welcoming upon arrival. The valet drivers, additional front desk and alil other staff were very nice! The first room we were assigned to had brown splash stains on the wall near the toilet! I’m not sure if they were from a blow out or old blood splatter! We called the front desk and were “upgraded” to a suite. The “suite” was very outdated but at least it was clean. It was cold our entire stay from 2/14-2/16, we didn’t have heat the entire stay; we roughed it out, out of fear of getting another nightmare room. The location was great however, I do not recommend you stay at this hotel. Please update the photos to represent how the hotel rooms really look.

Yelp
It's a historic hotel, so you should expect it to be older than what you'd expect from Marriott or a chain. The room reminded me of a 1950s detective movie - and yes it's carpet. I was given a city view room on a top floor and had a beautiful view of the city. Despite the scary reviews, I enjoyed my stay. Friendly and accommodating staff who opens the doors for you when you walk up. Also clean fresh room. Clean sheets and towels. WiFi was easy to connect and worked great. I got a good deal on this hotel on Agoda so overall I wasn't mad.

Yelp
We arrived to check into our pre-paid rooms, the front desk employee - "james Jones" he alleged - was extremely abrasive and rude and refused to believe that we had pre-paid. When we called our travel agent, he repeatedly said that he couldn't do anything, getting increasingly more and more rude and aggressive. It felt like we were being checked in by a bratty child throwing a tantrum. Instead of being patient and helpful for the service that was being provided, he continued to throw a fit and when he was called out on his off-putting and rude demeanor. We were trying to give him the necessary information in order to just get to our rooms and instead he kept escalating the situation. After traveling and working all day and arriving to our pre-paid and pre-booked hotel, this is certainly not the type of behavior or service that anyone deserves and we ended up leaving the hotel property after midnight in order to find better accommodations. Cannot recommend this hotel in any way.

Yelp
Checked in about 2 hours ago and when I say this might the worst hotel experience I've ever had, that would be an understatement. Our stay started with my girlfriend and I carrying our bags, struggling holding food and opening our own door, to then turn around and see the doorman helping an older white couple with their bags and door. No issues here just casual racism so let's move on. We get our assigned room and walk in to see blood on the lamp and on the bed (picture attached) so I walk down to address the situation. We then get moved to a bigger room and after repacking everything and moving to a different floor, OUR KEYS DONT WORK. We go back downstairs to get different keys and finally get inside our room. They did us a slight favor upgrading us from a queen to a king which really didn't matter but we appreciated the gesture, only to walk in to a sweltering hot hotel room. We then get a call apologizing from the front desk about our experience and we let them know about the AC and 30 minutes later with no answer I call back down and now we finally have a guy working on the AC. Quite possibly the worst experience I've had hotel wise especially as someone that travels for work, Magnolia hotel please get your act together! There is too much history and the hotel is way to regal to have this kind of service.

Yelp
Probably the worse hotel experience we have ever had. We have been traveling for sports for over 13 years. From check in to check out just tons of problems. Interesting part is I feel like the staff are actually nice but .... Not sure. My daughter travelled for a competition and I had been in contact with the hotel 2 months in advance regarding the trip. I called pretty weekly confirming information and cost. At arrival cost didn't match and it was just a frustrating experience. Pros - location is perfect for the convention center but this place is not worth it. Even if they offered me a FREE STAY I would say no. The smallest hotel I have ever stayed at. No good amenities. It was the worse room I've ever stayed in. I don't know. If you gave no choice or your splitting the cost with someone go for it I guess. Never again. The price you book online won't match the price at check in. Also the lady that has been helping me over the phone. When I arrived in person she didn't even acknowledge that she knew who I was. When she knew. I guess she was avoiding me because she knew all the stress I had to deal with from staying with them. Oh well. Won't ever be back nor will the 100 + people & families from our program.

Yelp
I only have one pro to this place - the location. If you're only here for one night, and you ONLY care about having a bed close to downtown to crash, then this is the place for you. But on everything else, this place just does not meet the standards for a good hotel. As far as amenities go, for the price you pay, I'd just expect more. We walked into a room with: half a toilet paper roll, one towel when we booked for two guests, no hand soap, and no hand towels. We called for TP and towels at 6:30 a.m., and nothing came through. At 9 AM, we went downstairs to the lobby to ask for it ourselves, and it finally came. Also, there's complimentary coffee in the hotel, but you're out of luck if you like tea - they only offer (not very great) coffee. There is also no fridge in the room. Or view. The bathroom could also use a little bit more cleaning, and so did the room. Still had bits of food on our carpet when we walked in. Also, the air only heats, I think. While it was cold outside when we stayed, we set it to the lowest setting because it was SO hot in the room. And it wouldn't change. It just stayed hot the whole night. I really wish we could've cracked a window because the room was so uncomfortable. If you got there by car, the valet is 45$, so add that to your total bill when booking. We've stayed at the Holiday Inn Express literally down the road that comes with a microwave, more TP than you'd need, all the towels you'll need, a fridge, AND free breakfast, and the rate was probably under a 100$ a night. Overall, I had a bad experience, and I wouldn't stay here again.

Stephanie L.

Yelp
The rooms are all really unique and stylish with wood paneling. There was a desk, fridge, two chairs and a really comfortable bed. The tub in these rooms and extra wide and perfect for taking a bath. The hotel also provides shampoo conditioner and body wash. My room was a bit loud. I could hear power washing happening in the mornings and trash being loaded out from a compactor somewhere nearby at night but I generally had a great experience. My group arrived late and we had no issues checking in from our red eye flight. The valet was willing to hold luggage when we left. I would stay here again.

Yelp
Great price for the location. This hotel greatly benefits from being in the former Magnolia Petroleum Company Building. The exterior and lobby are utterly glorious 1920s art deco from floor to ceiling. The rooms are on the shabby side but get the job done. Beds are super comfy. Make sure you have your own toiletries, lotion, etc. There was a hairdryer, but only two bathtowels, no kleenex and nothing to save you from slipping in the shower tub. Our room was quiet and dark at night, but friends who had a room one floor above us could hear all the traffic and street noise until the early hours. Not surprising given the location in the heart of downtown. Easy walking to Deep Ellum, Dealey Plaza, the AT&T courtyard. Coffee and pastries at the Flying Horse in the lobby were a nice way to start both of our two days here. If you're in Dallas to party and just need a decent place to sleep and shower, this is the place for you. The staff are friendly but not great problem solvers. On a security note, there are no key verifiers in the elevator, so you want to keep your wits about you if you're coming back up to your room late at night.

Yelp
DO NOT STAY HERE! This is a clown show disguised as a hotel. Supposedly an historic building, but it's just old. The hotel overbooked this week by seemingly hundreds. I was one of the "lucky" ones who got a room, but I have seen swarms of people turned away that had reservations, including members of my travelling party. 7 elevators, 2 are in use. 29 floors, but ice is only available on the third floor and they don't give you a bucket. What kind of a hotel doesn't give you an ice bucket? The AC doesn't work in the rooms, the thermostats look like they are older than my grandmother. It's Dallas, it's hot. AC is necessary. Literally everything in the building is dingy. "Historic" doesn't have to mean run down. Save yourself some trouble, book ANYWHERE else if you travel to Downtown Dallas.

Yelp
Probably the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. The rooms were dark and dated (thank god for my ring light). When I inquired about an upgrade being that it was one of the free perks for being an Expedia gold member, they told me all the rooms looked the same. I lost my phone in my Uber, I asked was there a computer I could use to log into my Uber account to contact the driver. They said no and told me to try the hotel next door. How insane does that look me going next door to use their computer when I'm staying elsewhere. No empathy at all from the manager, just a very "oh well" attitude. There was 1 wash rag in the room, no house keeping for the 3 days I was there. I inquired about towels at 8:40, they told me they'd send it up when house keeping arrives at 10. 10!!!! As if housekeeping was the only 1s allowed to bring up towels. Towels arrived around 10:15. Staying here made me realize I never want to stay at a hotel again that doesn't require a key card to use the elevator. Random men who I believe weren't staying there were hanging around the lobby and followed me to the elevator once, I pretended I forgot something and made a U-turn then they stopped. Paranoid about the lobby incident I was up until 2am. Then at 3:08am I wake up after hearing noise, I sit up and realize it's my door knob being tampered with. I've never been so terrified. I tip toe to the door and see through the peephole a man with no shirt or shoes.. dirty grey sweatshirts and a wet face/hair. I then ran to the phone and called the front desk to report it. The front desk agent calmly said "sorry about that, we'll send security up." Almost like she wasn't shocked. I laid back down and about 10 mins later I realized it was silent so I got up to peak again and this same man was pacing back and forth in the hallway. It should never take security 10 mins to get upstairs at 3am after a report like that and the cops should have been called. A little while later I checked again and he was gone. The next morning at check out I brought it to the managers attention and he said he didn't see anything in the report log, which wasn't shocking because the front desk personnel didn't seem alarmed. They did see in the call log that I did call down at 3:08am & agreed that the cops should have been called. The morning front desk associate said that sometimes people who aren't guest slip through the cracks by walking in with guest, NOT OKAY. How does a shoeless, shirtless man get past security?! This experience made me never want to solo travel again. The worst part about this trip was always returning to my hotel. I wouldn't even stay here for free.

Tiffany J.

Yelp
Maybe it's just me, but when I pay a certain amount I have certain expectations...not many...just a few. I would like my tv to come in with a clear picture. I would like the bathroom to have face towels and a shower towel to lay onto the bathroom floor. And I would like to call the front desk and get a hold of housekeeping to bring the basic essentials the room should have had in the first place and not be told I need to leave my room to come get it. It could be me. The three stars are simply because it is in the heart of a great area in downtown Dallas. O, and the hallway smelled funny and the thermostat didn't work.

Abby M.

Yelp
Magnolia is an easy, convenient location in downtown Dallas. The valet guys are AMAZING: helpful and very friendly. The beds are super comfortable and the window shades keep the room nice and dark, which I loved. BUT the rooms are super run down, the carpet is sticky and feels kind of moist all the time. Half the light switches don't work and the bathrooms need a serious overhaul, the lighting is a dark yellow which makes you look like death and impossible to do your makeup. There's only one mirror in the whole room and it's installed over the bathroom light switch. All we had was 2 bath towels so had to call down and ask for hand towels, washcloth and floor mat. (Which arrived quickly) Hard to fully enjoy the room experience after staying in the new, super intuitively designed rooms at the Virgin Hotel.

Cristina A.

Yelp
I hope my experience never happens to any future occupant/s to this hotel. My son arranged for our flight and the hotel stay since i'm only a "tag-along." He has to see a concert so the downtown hotels are convenient. We checked-in @ 4pm and head up to the 26th floor rm 2664. I was impressed with the ammenities. It has a full kitchen and a walk in closet and a nice view of downtown. The smell is not so bad being that it was built in 1921 and became a hotel in 1999. I googled while touring the room. About 4:30p we head downstairs for his uber ride to the concert. I was only bringing my cell phone and room key and decided to go to the AT&T Discovery District across the hotel. Facetime with my mom to show her views of the park and head back to the room around 5:15pm and put on the door safety lock. At this time i was alone but still facetiming with my mom. I sat on the bar stool which would be facing the kitchen and the door when i heard voices then someone was able to unlock the door and push it. I said this room is occupied!!! The man said as well "This room is occupied?" And i said it again yes it is occupied. And he said we have the same keys. I closed and lock the door and i called the front desk and told a lady what happened. She put me on hold and she said the room was clean. (meaning it is ready to be occupied). I asked if we checked in @4pm, how can it still be available? I asked for the manager and he won't be there until 10:30pm. Unbelievable!!! I was so scared even afraid to go to the bathroom. If not for the safety lock they could have entered the room. I placed the bar stool to block the door. Who knows what could have happened. If i did not get back on time from the park, i could have entered the room and there would be strangers. Our luggages and my purse was in the room. This was a very traumatic experience. left my cell# to the front desk when we were checking out on 9/18. Patrick the manager who i spoked with was suppose to update me with how it happened but still no call. Also found stains in the blanket. Found a looks like a cockroach leg on the couch. Very traumatic!!!

Yelp
Absolutely worst hotel experience I have ever had. I'll say that the evening front desk person was very nice and the valet were very nice. That is literally it. I arrived at the hotel at 8pm and proceeded to check-in. Prior to that I called several times asking about the conditions to which I was assured would be what I was looking for. Upon checking in and going to my room, to say I was disappointed and dissatisfied would be an understatement. Over the course of the next hour or two I attempted to make it work trying to switch rooms and they were just not good at all. Since the rooms were not was I was assured they would be, nor were they in a state where I felt comfortable enough to stay even one night. I told them I was canceling and leaving. So of course since I paid for a week, and did not stay a single night, I was thought I would be refunded at least a few of the nights. But nope, they gave me back one night, which I expected would be the opposite that I would have to pay for the first night even though I didn't stay at all. So out of almost $700 they were willing to refund $175. I was told "we don't refund for some scratches and unsatisfactory items in the room since it's an old hotel." I would expect customer service to be at the forefront of a business in hospitality let alone cleanliness. Beyond disappointed with the establishment and management. Please don't spend your money with an establishment that does not value your business nor take pride in their own offerings.

Diane G.

Yelp
Pros: nice front desk staff who responded to the problems. Cons: Don't be fooled by the photos on website. I'm in the room now. It is a dungeon. Beat up, not clean, broken vent that wouldn't turn off, no linens, no minibar, no ice, no food service. We had Uber bring a bottle of wine from Tom Thumb. This is downtown Dallas & a historic building....totally unacceptable. And expensive.

Joseph R.

Yelp
I don't think I've ever said this in my life but, I would rather stay at a motel 6. This place looks beautiful on the outside but is a total dump on the inside. It smells terrible in the room I got, it was a mix of smoke, moisture, and stank. When I walked in there was what looked like a puddle of pee in the tub, holes in the walls, dirty walls, the place is just gross. After 3 days of being here I went down to ask why no one had cleaned my room and they said it's by request only. I have never heard of that at any hotel. Worst part is I woke up with bug bites all over my body. Definitely would only recommend this to the worst of my enemies, this place is trashy.

Nikki S.

Yelp
BY FAR THE WORST HOTEL I EVER STAYED AT. This hotel is not vintage, or antique, it is just old dirty and dingy. There was dust all around the room, broken closet doors, stains everywhere- even on the towels. My friend was also harassed by their security officers when she tried to come back in the hotel by herself. If the security guards are not harassing you they're sleeping not doing their job so either way you're not safe. The lady while checking out also attempted to double charge is upon leaving after we pre payed! Do not stay here it is not an award winning hotel. The photos are doctored and it is not as nice as it seems at all. Also all of their amenities are either very dated or no longer in service (e.g the hotel bar that was closed down). The hallways were empty like an old ghost town. Photos coming soon -

Javaris L.

Yelp
I will start by saying this, my review goes back to Labor Day Weeknd of this year. My stay at the hotel resonated with me so much that I had to warn anyone considering staying here based off the beautiful exterior of the building - almost 5 months later. Valet: depends upon which crew you have. The younger valets, were careless and had attitudes. I witnessed them on multiple accounts have near accidents on the busy strip. If you have a luxury vehicle, I wouldn't risk allowing them to park. The inverse can be said of the older crew, that we're working mornings. Pleasant, customer service oriented alongside the younger manager is what I would describe my experience with them Front Desk: Pleasant with good customer service 1st Room: Upon entry to the first room I was assigned, there was a strong odor of marijuana, as if it was embedded in the furniture and the A/C unit. The carpet was moldy and there food splattered on the wall. With temperatures peaking well into the 100's the A/C unit was not working. After putting in a service request, the maintenance worker didn't introduce himself and set his ladder over the bed while I was still in it. Needless to say, the A/C was never fixed and it was unbearable to the point where I had to request another room 2nd Room: Definitely an upgrade and more of a suite - what one would expect from the Magnolia. However, the TV in the main room was inoperable. The plumbing in the bathroom was atrocious, the toilet was clogged and didn't flush and backed up into the kitchen sink. At least the A/C unit worked! Overall, this hotel has a ton of potential. Better management, updated renovations will have it back up on the status of which I thought the hotel would be. For the price point, you're only paying for the location to be in the heart of the city - not an experience

Cherry S.

Yelp
Wish no star was a choice! This plc is old, outdated, no bar, no restaurant, gross carpet, tub cracked with some caulked, missing curtains, TERRIBLE coffee in the room. There's not enough space here to list all the reasons not to stay. Reception desk was no help with issues. Never again!!!

Jon A.

Yelp
Had a chance to experience the Magnolia Hotel in Dallas recently as part of a convention luncheon. The hotel has been around for a century now, and has had a number of different visages. Starting out as the Adolphus Hotel in 1922, it was the headquarters of Magnolia Petroleum which later merged with Mobil Oil. During this time, it had erected its logo of a Pegasus on the building's roof, which later became the logo of Mobil Oil. Sadly the original sign had deteriorated over the years, and was completely rebuilt from scratch to be unveiled in 2000. Today the hotel is known as the Magnolia Hotel, and inside it is gorgeous. They have put a lot into keeping the old style feel of a hotel from the early stages of the 20th century, but the service is absolutely solid in terms of conference facilities. The food we were served for our luncheon was Texan barbecue, and all of it was quite tasty. Note that I did not stay at this hotel so I have no idea what the rooms are like... my impressions are purely on the entry, food, and conference facilities.

Yelp
Falling ceiling, humid rooms due to leaks, management does not care. I didn't feel safe, seen or heard. The front line staff tried to help but it was a terrible experience. My one expensive jacket I brought for a very important meeting was damaged due to a leak in the closet. Staff had to talk to 2 managers to get my item laundered. Elevators were. Or working and slow. Management didn't sign up front desk employee to computer and therefore long line to check out.

Eilat G.

Yelp
They never once cleaned our room in 4 days, despite us requesting daily and them assuring that "tomorrow" they will make sure it happened. At the end, the seemingly nice manager Patrick was very apologetic about our room never getting cleaned, he offered me a refund for 1 night as compensation, I gladly agreed. It has been 6 weeks and I still have not gotten the refund. I call almost daily and everytime I speak to Patrick he tells me that I will get my refund that day, it still has not happened. I am so disappointed in the horrible customer service at this hotel, the constant lies from Patrick and empty promises. I waited to post this review hoping Patrick would issue my refund and make things right but he has not. I really hope the owners of the hotel see this.

Stefanie L.

Yelp
This is a great hotel! I have no idea what people expect for $120-$170 per room but this place exceeded our expectations. At this price point the rooms were well appointed and spacious. Who would expect Adolphus level rooms at that price? Apparently a lot of people on Yelp who are completely out of touch with reality and the current cost of hotel accommodations in large cities. The hotel is located right in the middle of everything. Again, this means there will be some noise. It is a CITY. There are plenty of hotels that are brand new and quiet outside the city. THIS IS A DOWNTOWN HOTEL, THERE WILL BE NOISE. If you are concerned about the noise try requesting a room on an upper floor. That will help somewhat, but again, this is a city, people don't go to bed at 7pm. We loved the proximity to AT&T Discovery District and all the restaurants and bars downtown. We walked the city all weekend and had a blast! The building is a gorgeous classic and we had 0 problems with the elevators. We had a queen suite on the 10th floor and the view was amazing! Oh, and the AC was crazy strong! I have no idea what people are talking about. My only complaint is the water pressure. The shower was a bit of a let down, but again - this is an old building and PRICE POINT PEOPLE!

Scott G.

Yelp
I had COVID and a 101.2 temperature and called this hotel 2 days before my stay and they would not refund or give me a credit/voucher for the 2 day reservation. I asked if they preferred if I came with a fever and they told me that was my decision to make. I lost $368.00. I will never stay at one of their properties again. I urge everyone to pass on this hotel.

Mayra C.

Yelp
No Hot Water. Front desk was very rude and took forever to assign a new room. Shower was freezing cold... not what you'd expect after a long day on the road. Very disappointed.

Kevin R.

Yelp
It was my anniversary this past week. And I reserved a room for my wife and I there. She got there before me and sent me pics of torn sheets. Worn carpeting. And the wood furniture was all scratched up. They let her chekc out another room and basically the same thing. We decided not to stay there. We were expecting a luxury hotel. I arrived and the people at the front counter didn't seem to care

Briannah L.

Yelp
My god, save your money. DO NOT STAY HERE. This was the absolute worst hotel experience of my entire life. I'd like to start by saying, I absolutely despise "Karens", and I strive not to be one. This is a genuine review posted as a warning so nobody else has to go through this. Brought my friend from out of state to experience Dallas, and I feel enormous guilt. We were supposed to enjoy the nightlife and leave around 9:30-10, but after going back and forth with the front desk multiple times trying to solve our issues, it was past midnight. Here's what a $160 room at the Magnolia gets you: 80 degrees in the room when you get there. No hand soap in kitchen or bathroom. Half a roll of used paper towels. Blow dryer that doesn't blow hot air. Broken entrance light. Shower/tub diverter that doesn't work. Tub that doesn't drain. Open wiring held together by tape. No room service. No daily turnovers. Stains all over carpet. Room so dusty our allergies were sent to the moon. The room remained hotter than the hallway outside, well after the sun went down. The night manager said we could move to a different room...and it was even worse. Smaller, hidden away in a corner, and check out the view we got instead in attached photos. I guess if you complain, you get punished with a downgrade. We only had 1 night to stay and it was absolutely ruined. The night manager was extremely rude to my friend when she brought up these issues, which made me feel even worse for bringing her here. No compensation, no room credit, nothing but a "sorry to hear that." We ended up staying in the room we began with..at least the view was nice. Quick fact-when valet says 10-15 minutes to get your car, prepare for an hour. Don't waste your money here.

Yelp
Terrible. Paint on the windows. They give you 1 washcloth. The room is hotter than hell!! Which all was tolerable honestly. I only spent 1 night here. But the icing on the cake was this. Texted valet at 8:05, didn't get the car until 9! Hopefully I'll still make my flight but this is ridiculous! A freaking hour in the lobby. I am LIVID!

Yelp
I booked this hotel based on location and the fact that it is an Expedia VIP property. The location was perfect. We were attending a wedding across the street at the Adolphus and their rooms were way overpriced. The Magnolia was literally half the price. We arrived early on a Friday morning and wanted to see if we could check in early and drop our bags. I mentioned that we would like an upgraded room with my platinum Expedia membership and the lady hooked it up. She handed us our key, mentioned she got us an upgraded and sent us to the 21st floor. Our room was on the corner and had multiple views of beautiful downtown Dallas. Our room was large and basically like an apartment. We had a living room with couches and a desk, a kitchen that had a stove, dishwasher, sink, etc, and a large bedroom and fairly large bathroom. I wish we were staying longer to really take advantage of the suite. It was nice to have all of that space. The location of the hotel was great. It is in the middle of downtown surrounded by restaurants, bars, Uber is easy to grab and walkable to a ton of places. I would totally stay here again and highly recommend the Magnolia.

Yelp
Staff was terrific, but the room left a lot to be desired. Mold in the shower, and around the toilet along with a cracked lid. You could not use the body wash in the shower (broken dispenser and strange color oozing from the bottle). And the carpet was not laying flat and was discolored throughout the room. The kitchenette area in the suite was helpful so we were able to keep some water and snacks available. The bed however was not overly comfortable, very squeaky and seemed like a rather old mattress. Website shows valet cost is $40, they were charging $42 and we were never able to connect to the internet. I would highly recommend they discontinue the use of the air fresheners in the elevators and common areas the smell was so overpowering it gave you a headache after a minute of exposure. The saving grace was how nice all of the staff was during our stay.

Yelp
Location was great Room was decent enough. It didn't have enough seating for 2 people. 1 chair, ottoman and the bed. Which was high and not suitable for extra seating. The ac in the room didn't cool it down. Bought a box fan from the CVS downtown to supplement the air conditioning. After all day at The Fan Expo, the room wasn't cooled as all.

Yelp
I actually really loved this hotel. Let me tell you all the things I loved about it. First of all, we had a suite it had a full kitchen (we did not use). Room had a couch, living room area and a dining area, the bedroom was medium sized, large bathroom, with a shower and tub. I loved it one of the cool things about this hotel is that they offer free bottles of water and snacks in the lobby. They also have a very small coffee shop on the corner, right Inside of the lobby area that has really really good coffee. I will review that later. I received a discount coupon on purchases made at the coffee shop, which I thought was also extra cool. Valet was set up super simple with a QR code, which was awesome because it made it super simple for us to request that the car be brought around within minutes! The location has plenty of areas on the first and second floor for meetings which I used for meeting with my clients. This is one of the reasons that I chose this hotel. No need to ask for permission or schedule a time or a spot. It is very open yet has some areas where I was able to speak to clients privately. And there is also an ATM if you need to get cash. Alan, all this hotel was one of my favorites.

Yelp
Dangerous for people who have asthma or allergies. I changed 4 rooms. Found mold in all rooms. Carpets were wet, super moisture and smiley. The only plus point is that it's next to a food court.

Yelp
Guys....my fiancée would kill me if she knew I was leaving a shitty yelp review but I CANNOT not share this with the world. We went to check into our room and we get in. I say to her "Hmmmm seems kinda grungy". She was like, " Meh it'll be fine." We were both facing the windows when this conversation happened because we were just walking into the room. Then.....I turn around and see the handprints (in the photos). My jaw drops and I'm like, "BAHAHAHA Babe keep your shoes on, we are leaving". As we are taking photos of the handprints we also notice a very suspicious "splatter mark" on the wall. THEN, as we are walking to the door to leave I notice a used bandaid stuck to the mirror. We took photos and left so fast. I felt like I needed a shower after. If I hadn't experienced this first hand I would think this was fake but, alas, It is real. The CRAZIEST part was that when we went down to the lobby they barely cared. This blonde woman standing behind the two gentlemen working actually seemed annoyed WE were complaining and rolled her eyes like we were exaggerating. I think these photos will show we were not exaggerating and that this shit was disgusting. The one gentlemen did apologize multiple times and offered us another room. We let him know as nice as possible we no longer had much faith in the cleaning crew and asked for a cancellation. Anywho, we went to the Hampton Inn across the street and they were incredibly kind and clean. So. Woof. Yeah....the previous guests clearly left a better review than us. I'd say look elsewhere unless this is your thing. I'm sorry to see a business struggling to maintain but man this doesn't cut it.

Yelp
The structure is gorgeous and historic; much of the ground level interior restored. Y'all could prolly squirt some detergent water over the windows every quarter year, even half year. The tiny TVs require a 2 step code to make the channels work, as instructed by maintenance. One expects a polished, pristine room based on the exterior; the rooms are not. Take a commercial loan out already and refresh the rooms; y'all have no concept of depreciation.

Yelp
Sheets are yellow and they never change them. Air conditioner does not work. Suites are run down. They do not give you a full set of towels. Stay any place else as it's best days are history!

Yelp
I stayed here four nights and had a positive experience. Not sure why there are so many negative reviews. Location is great and is downtown close to JFK Museum (walkable). Rooms were spacious and had nice oversized windows and several of them. Like many hotels there is no longer housekeeping these days. One gripe is that the internet didn't reach into my room so there was basically no wireless. They need signal extenders. AC worked fine in my 5th floor room. Building has a lot of character and the elevators are plentiful. Rooms may be a bit worn and it's not a luxe hotel by any means but I thought it was pretty good. Finally the coffee shop attached to the lobby was excellent.

Yelp
HAUNTED: don't recommend. (pay a little more with breakfast included...than cheap and unable to sleep) Totally haunted. I was on the 10th floor. I arrived in my room around 8pm after dinner and started hearing noises, the room is old and I felt uncomfortable from the start the windows are so dirty you can barely see out...its okay for the deal I got using my delta miles and on a tight budget. So, here's my experience. The air was on and was very loud...and would turn off when it reached the cool 68 set up...but, I I felt extremely hot in the middle of night (similar to other reviewsI don't think the air works well) - there were other noises a ringing buzzing sound, clacking in the closet (the sound of someone hanging a coat and putting a cup down) , the fan in the bathroom would turn on and off on its own...I ignored all of it..and just layed in bed reading emails on my laptop when all of sudden I felt like someone next to me in the bed..you know the feeling when the mattress presses down...then I felt like they left and went towards the closet so, there I heard again a coat on a hanger, the sound of a cup being placed down on a shelf by the coffee maker...but, there were no cups and then the sounds went toward the bathroom and the fan would turn on and off...then it went back next to me in bed with the bed sheets looked like it was pressed down...like an invisible person was there...I realized this room is haunted and the spirit was trying to get my attention. The front desk said they were full and couldn't switch rooms for me. I said the buzzing /alarm sound is so loud I can't fall asleep....and they said..there is no alarm in your room. I somehow fell asleep by 1am and I found meditation music for protection on a YouTube channel...to change the vibration...I think it went away for a short time. When I woke up in the morning...the same was happening again...this time, its morning, I'm awake, I'm alert and its not just sounds in my mind...I'm in the room and following the same pattern of sounds...from closet, to bathroom to the bed sheets looked like someone was there.... so, I went to take a shower..I felt like someone was in the bathroom with me...the fan turned on and off again...while I was in the shower. I got dressed and went downstairs...the front desk said they sill did not have an other room for me so, I had to book an other hotel (I stayed at the Fairmont for $170 on sale which is a good deal and I was attending a conference there) ...but, I couldn't afford to stay longer so, out of 3 nights in Dallas I stayed 2 nights at the Magnolia..on my last night they placed me on the 24th floor with a view...this room was much nicer without the old musty smell and I didn't feel anything out of the ordinary. In short, for a $20-$40. more..I would suggest to get an other hotel it will be the same price...because in the end you don't need to pay for breakfast at a Hilton or Fairmont...it's just not worth staying for the location too risky..you may get an old haunted room or non-working elevators. Also, similar to the other reviews...the elevators don't work well...only 1 is available....the valet guys were pretty good...but, don't trust your valuables with the staff there...they are all super young and funky....its not professional...like the staff at the Fairmont.

Yelp
This is a VERY old and dark hotel located in downtown Dallas. It's also pretty expensive with us paying around $300/night. They're pet friendly and that's the difference but - would definitely not stay here if there were other choices.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I went to Dallas to catch a hockey game, and since we were there, do a little sightseeing. We decided on the Magnolia because it was not too far from the arena. Being downtown, it's also centrally located, roughly a mile from the funky Deep Ellum neighborhood and only a few blocks from the Sixth Floor Museum and Dealey Plaza. We were also a short ride from a cluster of museums. Our room on the 22nd floor was just gorgeous--a suite with windows on three sides, one of which gave us a great view of Reunion Tower. Give me a little more closet space, and I suppose I could live in a suite like this, as it also had a kitchen that's larger than mine at home. My only gripes: It seems to be the thing nowadays for hotels not to provide housekeeping service. I don't expect them to fully clean the room, but fresh towels and maybe making up the bed (they don't have to change the sheets) would be nice. We did ask for towels, and they gave us enough to get through our stay, so I suppose that's what we have to do from now on. Another issue is that we had fairly long waits for the elevator. It's a mild annoyance and didn't detract from our stay, but it's something visitors may want to keep in mind. I still would stay here again if I come back to Dallas.

Yelp
BEWARE! I spent one night here. No restaurant (or bar), no refrigerator in the room, no tissues in the room. Water pressure was very low in the shower. When I checked out, my bill was $6+/- over my reservation quote. Clerk said it was due to rounding! ROUNDING INVOLVES PENNIES NOT DOLLARS. Additionally I asked for change for a $20 bill to tip the valet. The front desk had NO cash - "we are a cashless hotel" was the response, My bill was a little over $300 for one night. I stayed here for sentimental reasons - I had 3 aunts who worked for Mobile Oil in this building. They (their memories) were worth it, but that will be my last visit!

Yelp
We stayed here on December 26th for our Anniversary stay-cation. Apparently some pipes had burst on the floor we were supposed to be on so we were upgraded to a suite. It was really nice, much larger, almost comically larger, than what we needed but it was fun anyway. It is an older building. Cosmetically, it is a little rough around the edges. The carpet in our room had some stains on it. The location, however, is excellent. Right across from the AT&T plaza with restaurants and bars. Valet parking is $40 which seems a bit steep

Yelp
A very nice hotel, great location. I was dissatisfied with the staff and their attitude. The first day of my stay my room was serviced and after a very long busy day at the NADA conference I returned to my room to find it in the same condition as when I left 13 hours earlier. I called to front desk and I was told that when I checked in I was given a letter that told me that if I wanted my room cleaned I needed to call in the morning and request it. I then explained that I did not get the letter and I was told that they she would send me up a letter. It was now 9 pm and I don't want a letter I would like my room clean. She was not apologetic at all and told me that I would need to call the following day. I doubt I would go back.

Yelp
Do not stay here. My husband and I had our one year anniversary and we did a little "staycation" in Dallas. The rooms are very outdated and dark. The TV did not work. There was a quarter of a roll of toilet paper, with no extras. The body wash in the shower was completely empty. The lamp next to my side of the bed and the outlets did not work. There is no microwave in the room. We had our 8 month old baby with us, and we were told we can go up to the 25th floor to use the microwave to heat up water for her bottles. Don't waste your money.

Christian K.

Yelp
Pros: convenient to the conference center Inexpensive close to some decent food and drinks friendly employees Cons: no parking bad wifi in some rooms less friendly employees grubby carpets sandpaper for bathroom tissue tiny TVs (an upgrade would make most people ignore some of the cons)

Yelp
Service was ok. Valet guys were nice, front desk girls were kind as well. Elevators suck Did I mention it's extremely haunted?

Devonta T.

Yelp
Great hotel right in the middle of downtown, perfect for sight seeing and tourism. Customer service was great and professional. I believe the receptionist was Angelica, who retrieved items I had left in my checked out room and driven an hour away.

Penbay T.

Yelp
The best part of this hotel is the washcloth which is nubbly and makes you feel cleaner than you can probably get. Was afraid to walk barefoot on the stained carpet in the room. May be a 4 star hotel, but that is on a scale to 15.

Keira L.

Yelp
We asked for a two bedroom for 4 people we booked it online and when we got here the only thing available was a one bedroom with a full size bed. We turned on the shower and the shower won't turn off we called the front office more the once for them to finally send someone up. This hotel sucks would not recommend.

Yelp
Horrible hotel..... learn from our mistakes. Dirty dark creepy. Smells moldy as well. I might order a test kit while I'm forced to stay here three more nights.
