It is a shame that the friendly staff at this hotel could not make up for some loose ends.
Upon check in, I was greeted by a friendly front desk associate who provided all the information I would need for my stay.
When I arrived at my room, things started going down hill. The room had modern decor, but was showing age. See couch picture. The clock was off by an hour, so I am not sure how much this room had been used in recent months.
I switched the thermostat on cool, but the air conditioning did not seem to work as the room remained at 76 degrees for hours. It was late, so I forced myself to go to sleep without calling the front desk to investigate the problem.
When I woke up in the morning, I realized there were no hand towels or wash cloths in the room. I called the front desk and was told that nobody could deliver them until 8am. I was running late, so had to make due without, but asked that they place them in my room while I was out. They stated this would not be a problem.
When I returned many hours later, no items had been delivered.
I called the front desk again and mentioned the towel situation as well as the lack of air conditioning.
About an hour later, hand towels and a single wash cloth were delivered. This was frustrating as I still had two days left in my stay. The gentleman was friendly, so I didn't say anything.
Soon after, they came to fix the air conditioning. It was indeed broken, but the fix was provided quickly and the engineer was friendly. Things were looking up.
Then things went down hill again. I had mainly used the room as a crash pad to sleep and shower, so I was incredibly grossed out when I was packing to leave and found a dirty sock under the coffee table. This sock was not mine and I had no guests during my stay.
I understand there is a national staffing shortage. However, having a clean and sanitary room is a hard requirement for any guest. If this cannot be maintained by the pool of available staff, management needs to make an effort to recruit additional staff through higher pay or reduce capacity so an adequate level of service can be provided.
Many of my coworkers who arrived earlier, but after check-in time, also had to wait an hour for their rooms to be ready.
Other things I noticed were very, very slow elevators and runny scrambled eggs for breakfast.
Because this is not an inexpensive hotel, the above issues are inexcusable. When combined with slow elevators and runny eggs in the morning, I rate this hotel two stars.
