Great place to buy cute and creative gifts! They have jewelry, cards, puzzles, kitchen supplies, scarves, and more. There are a lot of items made by local artists and vendors.

Magpie has really good holiday and special occasion cards. They’re beautiful, unique, and always exactly what I’m looking for. The shop also has a warm, inviting atmosphere that makes it a joy to stop in.

This is a great little store that is easy to miss if you don’t know about it. Although it’s visible from the sidewalk, the narrow width of the place prevents it from standing out much. As others have said, this is a nice shop for gifts like candles, jewelry, scarves, and various home goods. The selection is not wide, but it’s tasteful, and everything I’ve bought there appears to be of good quality.

A lovely shop with a wonderful selection of products from independent designer-makers, some of them local to NYC! Products include greeting cards, personal accessories, children’s products and other special items that are perfect for gifting. A favorite stop on the Upper West Side. Independently owned. Helpful staff.

Not your typical tourist trap. They stock handmade pottery, local hot sauces, and quirky books by regional authors. Wrapping is free, and the owner includes a handwritten note if it’s a gift. Found a knife sharpener here that’s now my go-to housewarming present.

I LOVE EVERY SINGLE THING IN THIS STORE!!! Every time I'm in the area, I have to stop in because they have an amazing selection of goodies, jewelry, cards, scarfs ranging from unique, one of a kind vintage pieces to artists and artisans made pieces, sustainable made and sourced. There're Xmas decorations hand made in Honduras, cards hand printed in France, gorgeous scarves, silks and dishes from Japan, velvet from Oregon, gorgeous jewelry from local designers and all of it is priced really well, nothing is over the top expensive and every piece will be a great addition to your home or an amazing present. I've bought earrings here as presents for teachers, hand made bracelets that are matching for myself and my daughter, studs for my niece, holiday cards that are a work of art, soaps that smell so good i want to eat them,. My two favorite purchases has been a felt hat that's vintage and a vintage brooch that i use to tie up the velvet scarf, its such a dressy, polished look. And unique, no one else has the same. Absolutely amazing.

Such a fun little store if you're looking for a fun gift. They have a little of everything (accessories, baby clothes, jewelry, home goods, etc) so maybe not the best if you have something specific in mind but you can get a lot of fun stuff here for others and yourself. Owner was very helpful.

This is one of my favorite stores in NYC. I've come here often over the last two years to buy gifts for myself and others. From cards to jewelry, bags and wallets, photo frames, candles, even pet goods... the curated item selection reflects a lot of thought and care. Even on occasions I don't end up buying something, the calm and prettily arranged space makes browsing a pleasant experience. And the owner and staff are also impeccably nice. Definitely worth stopping by.

I love finding small shops and hidden gems like this one! This store is walking distance from one of my favorite brunch spots, Jacob's Pickles. I always love stopping here after! The workers are so kind and give you your space as you look around. Their different stationary and cards are so cute! I also love their jewelry. I bought a really cute pair of earrings here last weekend and they were only $18. They were a steal! Can't wait to come back here and see what they have next time. Keep supporting small shops in your neighborhood, like Magpie!

Absolutely lovely shop! Visiting some friends in the Midwest soon and have passed this shop so many times, decided to pop in to look for a gift or two! I ended up finding the sweetest card, some unused tickets from the New York World's Fair, a lovely candle and some washi tape -the last one was for me Super charming place, the jewelry is gorgeous, affordable and I became obsessed with this foldable backpack made of recycled plastic, so I know I'll be back! Definitely recommend this small business, and if you love Japanese bowls, notebooks, and other stunning and hard to find items, this is the place to go!

Magpie is primarily a gifts and stationary store. I really enjoy browsing note books, tiny post its, and other paper products which they had plenty of. Some of the items were from Japan so you can find some pretty unique pieces. It seemed like they also have a focus on eco-conscious items like beeswax based food storage wrap and Swedish dish cloths that are meant to act like a sponge. There was a small sale section in the back of odds and ends as well.

The owners here are so friendly and helpful, and yet, not overbearing. Striking that balance is hard to do in a tight space. Beautifully-curated, this shop always offers something new with every visit. It's the perfect place for getting that unique gift for someone (or even yourself!). Sometimes I like going in even when I am not looking for an actual gift, because they'll always have something there I haven't seen before. Truly a special gem on the Upper West Side, I'd love to see them expand to an even bigger place with even more inventory because this is a really special gift store. Items are perfectly priced, too!

In a city where independently owned gift shops are all but extinct, this is a treasure. Such a charming little shop with original gift options and a really friendly and helpful staff. Please visit.

UPDATE: I appreciate how management reached out to apologize for the lack of customer service that I received. Due to this, my review has been updated from a 2 to 3 star rating. WONDERFUL store PITIFUL service. This could have easily been a 5 star review however the service drops it down to 2. The Store: I was here at here at 3:45 pm today (Friday) and purchased about 7 items spending over $100. Magpie has something for everyone, from quirky little home accessories to jewelry and candles. I left with 2 log cabin building block sets, a handmade blanket, soap, foldable back back and a few other items(all reasonably priced). A lot of the merchandise is made in the USA, and quite unique: things you don't see everyday. Magpie, you could have been the best little store ever. Service: Upon arrival we were not greeted with a 'hello', nor were we asked if we needed any help; even at check out we did not get a 'thank you'. We actually were the ones to say have a nice day and thank you because the check out experience was awkward and downright rude. She treated us as though we were an inconvenience - pitiful and disrespectful. I would love to come back to this place, it's unique and a place where you can find a little gift for anyone however due to the service, never again.

After the neighborhood stationery and book stores had been closed due to pandemic, I could not find any good cards to send to my friends and family, but this store carries so many unique cards and variety of beautiful little gifts that will inspired you to reconnect to somebody that you care for. The store has many more items than on their website. The manager was very thoughtful. I will definitely come back.

Visited Magpie today for the first time and will make this one of my go-to shops in the neighborhood when I'm looking for a thoughtful, quality gift... oooor some new jewelry for myself. ;) There's a wide variety of novelty items here suitable for kids (wooden toys, cute stuffed animals, and other eco-crafts), women (scarves, jewelry, bags) and the home (candles, kitchen towels, soaps, incense) and super cute stationary. Goods are a little pricier, but good quality and one-of-a-kind for sure. Oh, and gift-wrapping is free - always a big plus!

This store has an amazing buyer and the owner is lovely (I'm assuming that the owner is also the buyer). I've been coming here for years to find gifts and support our local shops, which are dwindling. However the last couple of times I've been there the customer service has been horrific. This afternoon when I was the only customer in the shop, I asked for information about a couple of items only to be treated as though I was interrupting the self-important girl at the counter. After making it excruciatingly clear that she did not want to be bothered, I decided that instead of asking for assistance to find a pair of gloves to match a hat as a gift I would look myself. This person then reprimanded me for looking. You cannot have it both ways, my dear. I would like the owner to know that this is why people shop online. If you're interested in being one of the few independently owned shoppes left in the neighborhood you need to change your customer service approach. I do not need to spend my free hour being treated badly by a girl who thinks she shouldn't have to work.

I have shopped at Magpie several times for cards and gifts for others and for small gifts for myself. It's a cute space with a nice neighborhood feel. They have a great selection of scarves, bags and other small items. I especially love their well-curated selection of earrings. I have a pretty bad nickel allergy and always ask what each piece of jewelry I buy is made out of. I appreciate that the staff can take the time to find out for me--but if they don't know or can't find out, they won't hesitate to tell me the truth. That, to me, is truly putting a customer before a profit. It might not seem like a lot, but given my bad experiences with other jewelry stores in the neighborhood, it's nice to have a place I can always come back to.

They just don't make independent gift stores like this anymore. The items are diverse and beautiful, and most of them are handmade. I love to come here to buy gifts for those deserving of something extra special. I have bought lovely dish towels, candles, and jewelry here. Everything just has that special touch. It's a beautifully curated store and I always look forward to returning.

I love being able to still visit a small, independent gift shop with genuinely good items - a lot of them are fair trade and organic. There are some small presents for as low as $1 that are perfect stocking stuffers or goodie bag items. I really enjoyed my experience there and the staff was so helpful and kind.

I would agree with a previous reviewer about the lack of customer service here. The two stars I gave are for the store itself. I have been in this shop several times and not once has a salesclerk greeted me, offered assistance, or said a word when I have purchased something. It's really a shame because there are a lot of great things to buy and I always love supporting a small business but it makes me not want to shop here. After several similar experiences, I will not return.
