This is a very cute store, but I feel like I got ripped off. They only issue store credits for returns and no one tells you this when you make a purchase. No one was going to tell me this even while processing my return either. Had I not noticed the associate manually opt out of issuing my refund to my original form of payment and opt into the “gift card” option, I would’ve been watching my credit card statement for a refund that would never come. When I explained that they should really state this policy to customers, the sales associate pointed to where it says this on my receipt—which of course you’d only learn after making a purchase. They also pointed to a hardly legible sign behind the counter that apparently states their store credit only policy. Very disappointed. I left my first visit thinking I’d be a regular customer, but now I feel like I was conned. If you’re going to commit to the harsh store credit only policy, at least make the effort to make people aware of it up front. I probably still would’ve purchased my same items, but at least I would’ve been fully aware of the risk and wouldn’t have left my second visit aggravated and not looking forward to my my forced next visit to spend my store credit.

A lovely shop with a wonderful selection of products from independent designer-makers, some of them local to NYC! Products include greeting cards, personal accessories, children’s products and other special items that are perfect for gifting. A favorite stop on the Upper West Side. Independently owned. Helpful staff.

Need a gift? Go to Magpie. Want something for yourself? Go to Magpie. Have 20 minutes to kill and window shop? Go to Magpie! The people here are always nice and helpful, and the store itself always has unique items. Things are very reasonably priced and it's a go-to spot whenever I need a gift.

Very cute and inviting little shop with a good selection of quirky but aesthetically pleasing gifts. Went with my girlfriend to find some gifts for a friend's birthday party. Expensive but high quality without being pretentious. Highly recommend.
