Yelp
Really a 2.5, between a 2 for the service and a 3 for the food.
Came back a year later, and boy has this place changed--and not for the better. While we were waiting, the original server didn't check on us too much, which we shrugged off since the place was swamped. When it hit the half hour mark, we planned to flag him down, but a few minutes later, a different server came by with some mackerel and soup (neither of which we ordered), apologizing for the wait and saying "it's on the house". Food (5 sushi rolls) came shortly after that. Unfortunately the food was pretty meh--a big surprise, since it had been so fantastic during our visit last year.
But that unfortunately wasn't the low of the evening. When the check came out, we saw they had charged for the mackerel that we had not ordered. We thought, honest mistake, we'll just let them know. The first server seemed very confused, but took it off the check. As we were paying the first check, another server came by and dropped off a second check with the mackerel on it. We asked for this to be resolved. The waitress who initially brought the mackerel and said it was on the house was so rude and snapped at me when I tried to explain the situation, snapping that she wanted to talk with the other server. They ultimately took it off, but she was so rude through the whole exchange and never once acknowledged that there might be an error. Would 100% have preferred not to receive the mackerel than to have had to deal with that.
Anyways, we have removed this from our favorites list for the quality of food and moreover the service. This place used to be tied with Oppa but that seems to have been short lived... Definitely go to Oppa instead for affordable high quality sushi, or Matsunori for high end hand rolls. Hopefully you can turn it around, Maguro, but I don't think I'll be testing my luck anytime soon.
