Where to Eat in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island

"A classic, family-run greasy spoon operating for more than 30 years, known for affordable prices, gargantuan portions, and hearty, stick-to-your-ribs breakfasts. The hashbrowns are a highlight, and menu favorites range from a steak-and-eggs 'King Richard’s Feast' to the humbler 'Robin Hood' breakfast; be sure to save room for a slice of the famous pies." - Ksenia Prints

Delicious and reasonably priced breakfast. They were packed but service was still relatively quick. Eggs were runny as expected and well buttered. Bacon and ham was tasty. I was excited for the sausage as it had a pretty unique size as far as breakfast sausages go, but unfortunately it was a bit disappointing. The temperature was on point, but it seems the sausage's farce itself had been undersalted/underseasoned and had a bit too fine ground a texture. Small complaint in scope of the whole experience. Would definitely come back to try a lunch or dinner special if I end up back in PEI. Reminds me of the Route 99 diner back in my hometown.

Google
Great little diner, first place we stopped to eat at in PEI, we did have to wait a while for a server to sit us even though it didn't seem that busy. The food was very quick to arrive, and we got three breakfast plates and a steak sandwich. The breakfast plates were very good, unfortunately the sandwich was pretty dry as it had very little cheese and absolutely no sauce or au jus to go with it. They provided HP steak sauce for the sandwich but I'm not very fond of the flavor. Luckily I asked for gravy which was poured over the fries, so I scraped up what I could to moisten the steak. The waitresses were fairly nice, we did get constant coffee refills, but no water refills. Long line to pay for food as there is a constant stream of people coming in just to get a coffee and to-go pastry. Overall not bad for the price and food, I would recommend.

Google
Great value for quality food. We ordered fish and chips, bacon cheeseburger platter and seafood chowder. Good 'ole diner vibe. I particularly enjoyed the milkshake that came in the metal cup. Definitely will return if opportunity arises.

Google
Wanted something quick and decently priced. When we pulled up it was a full parking lot which is always a good sign. We walked in and we’re seated within minuets. We had barely put in our order and BAM foods at our table. Hot and fresh. Our server was there anytime we needed her. The staff were all smiling and cheerful. Can’t wait to come back.

Google
Generous portions of delicious food at a reasonable price. Popular eatery with excellent service. The atmosphere was very welcoming with touches that left no doubt that they are proud of PEI

Google
Love this breakfast place. It was packed but we were able to sit at the bar top. We were well taken care of and the food was fast and delicious. Coffee and tea top ups consistently . The servers worked as a team and delivered a smooth experience.

Google
I got the Marian’s Turkey wrap and it was like Christmas dinner in a wrap, so so so good. My lunch date had Bacon Cheese dog with onion rings, and they said it was awesome. All around great place to eat. There is a line during peak hours, but it moves along pretty good.

Google
Perfect diner experience. I have been coming here after many a night that's gone later than it should have for half of my life now. Quality and prices have stayed relatively the same - which is crazy, in the best way!! Maids is a staple for a weekend breakfast - not fancy, just good, hearty, fairly priced + fast. 🩷

Yelp
Disclaimer: I have never actually eaten at Maids (I'm not from PEI but moved here a few years ago so this is shameful to the locals...) BUT my BF did bring me home this amazing MEGA cinnamon roll. This review is strictly on the cinnamon roll, 5/5!! Massive and with the crisp type of pastry dough (not bready or yeasted). Sweet and delightful and I'm told you can order it with or without frosting. Can't wait to try the full breakfast!!

Yelp
Nice little restaurant. Great food, at reasonable prices. Breakfasts are a must!! Staff are friendly too

Robert S.

Yelp
Had their Lasagna special. It was excellent and such a large portion I had leftover for supper next day. The Caesar salad was fresh a lots. Croutons were perfect. I will definitely reorder. Service was, as usual, also excellent.

Yelp
It's a good place to eat at, the service is alright could be better, the ambience is boring but classic

Kate A.

Yelp
Food was only fair. No butter on the toast. Wait staff was grumpy. Had to plead for a second cup of coffee. Kinda pricey for the servings.

Yelp
Our first food stop fresh off the plane from Greater Vancouver. Coffee is fantastic. Yam fries are the best I've had. Though not fancy, the Bacon Cheeseburger was very good. Here to scout the province for a potential move. If/when it happens, this diner would Bacon Cheeseburger be one of my go-to places for a nice home style meal.

Yelp
Wow family diner at its best. Good prices, great food and large portions. We went a little after 1pm so didn't have to wait for a table. But I have been there during lunch hour and the wait was about 10 min. Service was outstanding prompt and food arrived at a reasonable timeline. This is not fast food , but good family diner.

Yelp
This is a very good average spot. However! It's not worth waiting 30mins for bfast in a Saturday or Sunday morning. Plus the coffee weak. So if you want a solid breakfast at a solid price this is the place... but watch out for the church crowd on Sunday morning.

Yelp
On holiday from Los Angeles, our first stop on PEI in Charlottetown was Lunch at Maid Marion's where we enjoyed a lobster roll & delicious fried haddock served with fresh cut turnips -- amazing value for such great food! For dessert we splurged on Lemon Meringue Pie for dessert with no regrets. So impressed with the Lemon Meringue, we ordered one for our family's Canada Day BBQ & also took a chance on the Coconut Creme Pie. Needles to say, we had no problem emptying the two beautiful Pyrex pie dishes! We couldn't help notice the cinnamon rolls situated at the counter so we served those for a Coffee Party. These massive cinnamon rolls proved to be another instant hit. All I can say is Cinnabon should pack up their cinnamon & go home! These fresh buttery spirals of goodness should be on everyone's PEI list! On our last night, we were invited to a fish fry hosted by our cousins so thought we'd repeat our same pie selections. Again, we left with empty Pyrex dishes! Our only regret is we didn't get to breakfast at Maid Marion's due to a tight trip itinerary. Next time we'll schedule it first up!

Yelp
Never amazing, but always good and consistent. Everything on the menu is under $10. The best breakfast restaurant in Charlottetown. Most of the waitresses are super friendly. There is one whom I try to avoid. The cinnamon rolls are to-die-for.

Yelp
Are you looking for humble, affordable homestyle cuisine? You've found it at Maid Marians. After a few days of eating out in PEI and sick of restaurant food, we accidently stumbled on this low key diner. This place is great! The server was super friendly and always smiling, and the food came FAST!!!!! Food snobs need not stop in here, this is for the common folk who just want a good affordbale meal. Every day there is a meal on special. We had the Monday chicken dinner which was a juicy breast topped with homestyle gravy, side of choice of baked potato or fries and some carrot/turnip (boiled but edible) for $8.49 We then shared a caramel sundae for $3.99 which was definitely big enough for 2. When in PEI, homesick for mamma's cookin', and tired of restaurant food, check this place out in the Sherwood Plaza.

Yelp
If your looking for a quick clean and decently priced breakfast, look no further. Don't be turned away by a wait. They turn over tables very quickly and the food is good. Great value for the price point. The cinnamon Buns made on site are huge and delicious!

V A.

Yelp
The love that surrounds maid Marians is cult like. The food here is not good, maybe when your still half drunk half hung over from the night before and your body would appreciate anything at this point but this place is not good. It's hectic, there are a handful of really terrible waitress' (some good ones too) & it has carpet... carpet!!! This place burnt down in what 2009? They rebuilt & decided on carpet?! Okay. Anyways, the foods not good, it just isn't, it was good before they rebuilt, but it's trash now.

Yelp
I absolutely Love eating here, I can honestly say I've never been disappointed with a meal I've received!!! The service is friendly and efficient it's great if you have kids I would give them 6 out of 5 stars if I could! I've lived on the island for 10 years now and have been going to maids before I moved here 110% loyal happy customer.

Connor M.

Yelp
I LOVE this place! At a glance, I don't expect much from this restaurant. But, this is a great place for breakfast, lunch, and definitely supper. I have been here several times since living on the island and every time I go, I leave wanting more. I have tried their Robin Hood's breakfast which was so cheap for the amount of food that I got, I couldn't even clean my plate. The bacon was great and the home fries are always cooked to perfection. I've had the bacon cheeseburger, it's decent, but nothing you can't get at A&W. However, service is always wonderful so it makes up for the mediocrity of the burger. The workers are always great, personable, and super efficient. The fish and chips, however, was amazing. So cheap and soooooo fricking crispy and good!! I would definitely recommend this restaurant to any island friends looking for some deep fried fish. The biscuit that came with the fish though was dry and cold, tasted like straight flour. I would opt for the bread instead. I'm sure on a good day when the biscuits are fresh out of the oven, they would great and even better with a smear of butter. The desserts are also fantastic, love the lemon cream pie so much. Overall, this place is scrumdilly and easy on the pocket. An easy 5 stars. Would recommend to everyone as there is something for all walks of life on this menu! I love Maid Marian's!

Yelp
Very disappointed by a place with four-star reviews on Yelp. I don't need a place to be fancy to enjoy it and I have some favourite cheapo greasy-spoon diners which I love, but the food needs to be good - and it just wasn't here. Visiting Charlottetown, we came here for brunch on Canada Day because it was open, there was a line out the door, and we figured that a 4-star Yelp review was a good sign. Ordered an omelette, a breakfast platter with egg and sausage, and the benedict. Home fries were the kind that are more like French fries than hash browns. Pretty low-quality, unhealthy diner fare: edible, doesn't taste bad, and filled us up, but I wouldn't come here again, and I didn't really want to eat anything but vegetables for the rest of the day. Service was okay. We were given a pitcher of water but no glasses and I had to ask for them. The waitresses weren't rude but weren't friendly either. That said, they were accomodating of my request to have tomatoes instead of bacon in my omelette. Coffee was fine. The meal came to $28 ($35 after tip), which I didn't think was really worth it given what we got. I wouldn't come back here. If you're after cheap, filling breakfast food, head across the street to Timmy's, where you'll pay half the price for yummier stuff.

Yelp
So good we came twice! The perfect dinner experience! All day breakfast, super fast service, great prices, and extremely friendly service. Our family of five came for breakfast twice while vacationing in the area, and enjoyed the pancakes, waffles, Robin Hood breakfast, and all were fantastic. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Amazing classic diner! We were here for breakfast and I totally forgot to take pics because we all dug in. Easy menu: eggs bacon sausage etc. Get the pancakes (giant!) they are fluffy with a bit of chewiness. Really delicious. Service is prompt and friendly. There can be a line but it moves quickly. Would totally recommend!

Yelp
I love Maid Marians Diner. I have been going to this restaurant every week for one meal a week. The prices are really cheap and everyone is so nice. They all know me by name and they all just help everyone as much as possible. Would strongly recommend you go to here for food.

Yelp
This place has great pancakes and bfast potatoes. but crappy customer service. I walk in and there is no sign to seat yourself so I wait. Fat waitress standing at counter sees me, ignores me. I ask her " Do we seat ourselves?" She nods slowly with smart aleck look on her face. I sit down & order from another waitress who is civil Orange juice should be labled " orange colored drink" its awful tasting. . A different waitress brings our food. We are used to checks being brought up to the table but no one came to check on us to ask if everything was alright or to let us know we pay at the counter. As we are getting up woman comes up & says " I am just going to take your seats" Because place was full & people were waiting. I don't like the vibe in here.

Yelp
Quick and easy diner. If you want breakfast all day and great milkshakes then you should come here, but be prepared to wait for service as they tend to be busy all the time

Yelp
Great cheap food. Recommended to us by a local. Great for a touring band looking for affordable all day breakfast. We didn't even get the glares we usually do when we roll into a restaurant. Hard working lovely wait staff.

Shane C.

Yelp
Great place of a greasy spoons diner is what you seek. Always full but the line moves fast. Good daily specials and decent prices. Great selection of huge desserts! Sometimes a little slow on the coffee refills but just flag someone down and they're happy to help.

T O.

Yelp
We were in an unfamiliar town and it was lunch time so we looked up restaurants around us. After reading several reviews and looking at restaurant website/menus we decided to give Maid Marians a try. Well what a great choice. The place was BLOCKED when we walked in so we knew something good was happening here. We waited for about 10 minutes to be seated because of the lineup. Food was basic fare but served quickly and delicious. I had gravy on my fries and it was probably the best I've ever had.
google avatar

Erin B.

Yelp
Two locals recommended this place to us for breakfast. We were prepared to be wowed by the "cheap, quick food" but the breakfast menu is only about 8 items. The food was good but nothing memorable or different. The wait staff was kind and efficient.

Reegan P.

Yelp
you can honestly never go wrong. the best breakfast, hangover food, dinner food, literally everything. even if the line is out the door youre never waiting for more than 10 minutes to be seated. the food comes so quick and its always steaming hot and delicious. only thing i would change is the bacon isnt cooked to my liking but that doesnt bother me at all. and dont even get me started on the milk shakes. oh my god literally the best milkshakes in pei. if youre looking for a quick, local, friendly place to have a bite, this is the place for you. :)

Kyri K.

Yelp
Service was okay. Food was okay. We got a breakfast wrap and pancakes. Not bad, but not great.

Annette M.

Yelp
5 stars because it is the most affordable family restaurant in Charlottetown . Always a wait at the door , but very quick to get a table . Service is fast and your meal arrives in no time , no waiting for a bill , just check out your table number and go to the cash ... Check out the pile of order slips to give you an idea how popular this place is . Always a local favourite for consistently good food . Many head here after a night on the town to help with a hangover. Locals who have moved away often can't wait to get back to PEI for their Maid's fix.

David P.

Yelp
Ah, Maid Marian's. The leading cause of heart attacks in Charlottetown. :-) If you're looking for a cafe-type experience with lots of interesting coffees and meals then this isn't the place for you. You will get grease my friend. Lots of it. This is the traditional greasy spoon diner. Everything comes from a deep fryer and/or grill. With that in mind, this is how I've rated this place. Our family has been here for both breakfast and lunch when we've been on the Island. It's a business that's been around for as long as I can remember. You are guaranteed to get good, greasy food in large quantities and a very very reasonable price. Just don't ask for substitutions or anything other than what you see on the menu. The whole point is to get your food quickly, eat it, and move on. As I said earlier, the food is all grease- burgers, fries, sausages, bacon etc. It's a guilty pleasure, but it's very good for what it is. My personal favorite is the steak sandwich. Like all other meals, it comes with a mountain of fries on the side. The staff are efficient and will get you to your seat, take your order, and get your food very quickly. The restaurant is always busy, so they are always moving. Coffee refills are free and are easy to get as the servers are always around. You should be aware that breakfast time on weekends is especially busy so you may have a wait to get a table. The wait isn't too bad given that they are constantly cycling orders to keep things moving. While it's probably hazardous to your health to make it a regular dining spot, Maid Marian's provides good 'ol basic comfort food, lots of it, and at a very affordable price- no more, no less.

Yelp
Great service, fast with Fiona as well as portions.Good amount of parking.Had the sheriff toast eggs bacon and a big glass of water(good water not crappy water).
google avatar

Spencer H.

Yelp
Had the Buffalo Chicken Wrap with Bacon added, and a side of Onion Rings. Reasonably priced for sure. Definitely not a high end place, but instead a cozy classic style diner.

Pablo M.

Yelp
The fact this place gets 4 stars average shows how little Islanders know about decent food .
google avatar

William R.

Yelp
Recommended by liquor store clerk as a good place to grab a bite. Seems very popular by locals. Sandwiches were big and tasty and the bacon cheeseburger was delicious. Service quick and attentive. Prices are very reasonable. Fries are hand cut, and portions are generous.

Yelp
Had Saturday morning breakfast here with my teenager. He had waffles with strawberries and whipped cream and I had eggs benedict. Service was friendly and quick, food arrived quickly and was very good. Great as always!

Yelp
Visiting from Toronto and dropped in to what we knew was a greasy spoon for a late lunch. This is definitely a popular place for locals. Atmosphere isn't much but food was fantastic and fresh and you can't beat the price! Everything is under $10 including the lobster roll. The only downside is no booze. :( Highly recommend for any meal of the day, but remember, greasy spoon. Not fancy. But delish!

Tyler P.

Yelp
Decent restaurant with decent food, probably one of Charlottetown's most overrated restaurants. Far too small and never feels clean.

S J.

Yelp
I really like Maids, but mainly for the people that frequent there, rather than the food. The food is typical greasy-spoon fare... hamburgers, fries, etc. I recommend going on Wednesday when it is 2-for-1 hot hamburgers and corned beef and cabbage day. Lots of food for a cheap price. While the one in Charlottetown is always crammed and is tiny despite the brand new building, the one is Summerside is much bigger but seems to draw less of a crowd.

Craig P.

Yelp
Excellent home food. Real hamburgers (not frozen patties. Perfect place for the whole family. Great price, lots of staff to keep this busy place moving along.

Smiley D.

Yelp
I have NEVER EVER experienced such bad customer service in my life! I called Maid Marion's a head of time to inquire about the prices of their combos considering they are not listed online. The waitress on the phone told a friend and I the price of each thing we wanted to order before taxes. When we arrived 15 minutes later on Sunday morning, we stood at the back of the line to pick up our food. I and my friend NEVER visited the restaurant before but according to some locals this was a busy time so there were LOTS of people there. Once we reached the cash we asked for the food we ordered ahead of time. The OWNER Wendy Walker, got our food and gave us the price. I paid for my order. However, my friend was misinformed the price and decided to take some of the additional food off the order to make the price cheaper. THIS IS WHEN THERE WAS A PROBLEM. Wendy Walker refused to do what was requested because the food was already packaged. We asked her again if she could because we were not prepared to pay that price. She became very angry and stated "NO, I am not going to do that!". I, since I paid for my order already asked if I can have a refund so my friend and I can go somewhere else to eat. She stated, "NO YOUR NOT GETTING YOUR MONEY BACK AND NOW YOUR NOT GETTING YOUR FOOD BACK". She stormed to the kitchen to chuck our food out. We asked another waitress to provide us our refund but the owner came back and told her not to give it to us. This was all in front of a lot of people. We asked another waitress if we could get a refund and the owner yelled in the restaurant, "BEAT IT! GET OUT MY RESTAURANT, YOUR NOT GETTING YOUR MONEY BACK!" We left the store calmly and went straight to the police station and filed a complaint. In the end the police had to go to the store to retrieve my money. When I received my money back in the envelope it contained all nickels.I NEVER been so disrespected in my life!

Yelp
5 plus plus plus plus!!!! Let me put it to you this way. If I were on death row and they asked me what I wanted to eat before I went to the chair without a doubt it would be the club sandwich chicken salad on whole wheat with fries and the beef gravy. I would die a happy man after that meal. Everything on the menu is fantastic!!! The staff and owner are unbelievably friendly and it has the small town feel and charm that only PEI islanders can provide. The two for one cheeseburgers are also great. Bring your appetite because you get more food than what you pay for which is very rare these days!!!!! And everything that you eat is gonna make you want to come back again and again. I can't say enough about the food or the staff. My favorite restaurant on the planet and I've been to many in my life. Leave room for dessert if you can. The pies are all homemade and delicious. The breakfasts are also to die for. The hash browns are the best ive tasted. Not far from downtown Charlottetown and there is always room for parking.

Lisa B.

Yelp
Food was excellent, it was to our table in less than 5 minutes (breakfast), even tho the line was out the door. Service was great and friendly. You know if the locals like it, it's the place to be.
