15 Best Things to Do in Portland, Maine, From Seafood Tours to Island Day Trips | Condé Nast Traveler

"The flagship among all of Maine Day Ventures’s (formerly Maine Foodie Tours) offerings is this food tour that spotlights the ever-changing group of eateries and breweries that have helped put Portland ’s working waterfront area on the map. Expect to sample everything from fresh lobster rolls to local craft beer, Maine crabmeat maki rolls, potato donuts (from Holy Donut ), and creative superfood smoothies (at Blake Orchard). Some of the included stops are expected (you simply can’t tour in Old Port without a few spoonfuls of chowder) and others surprising (chocolate truffles made from Aroostook County potatoes, for example). Above all, the storytelling and interactions are solid; guides do a good job of providing wide-ranging context for how foods are made and how they fit into the culture of the city." - Alexandra Hall

Maine DayVentures: Portland Old Port Culinary Walking Tour — Tour Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"Zoom out. What’s the big picture here? The flagship among all of Maine Day Ventures’s (formerly Maine Foodie Tours) offerings is this food tour that spotlights the ever-changing group of eateries and breweries that have helped put Portland ’s working waterfront area on the map. Expect to sample everything from fresh lobster rolls to local craft beer (try Gritty’s), Maine crabmeat maki rolls, potato donuts (from Holy Donut ), and creative superfood smoothies (at Blake Orchard). Tell us about your fellow tourees Like nearly every food tour in the universe, there are always those who show up solely to eat, and not necessarily to learn about the places and the people that provide that food. But so are plenty of folks who want to find out more about and celebrate what makes Portland’s food scene so singular. Note: For those with mobility issues, this is a challenging tour, depending on which eateries and bars are visited (the list is ever-changing). Some of those destinations will have more accessibility than others, and there’s a fair bit of moving from one place to another. How are the guides? On three recent tours, guides were both well-versed in the history and the changing life of the neighborhood, and how that’s influenced the quality and integrity of the food—from local suppliers’ ever-changing challenges to end result: the moment when a restaurants set a plate down in front of you. Blending facts and substantiated opinion with occasional jokes (including a few groaners), the presentation moved at a reasonable pace, and did a decent job of engaging the staffs and teams at culinary sites along the way, while balancing that out with questions from the tourees. Anything you’ll be remembering weeks or months or years from now? The diversity of sites, for starters. Some are expected (you simply can’t run an eating tour in Old Port without including at least a few spoonfuls of some kind of chowder), and others surprising (chocolate truffles made from Aroostook County potatoes, for example). But above all, the storytelling and interactions are solid; guides do a good job of providing wide-ranging context for how foods are made and how they fit into the culture of the city. So: money, time—how can we make the most of both? People who join the tour primarily to eat (read: cruise ship day trippers) won't be disappointed. There's plenty to sample and savor along the way. But the tourees who will walk away with the most from the experience are those who stay focused on the big picture: not simply on the delicious food, but why the food is delicious in the first place. The Old Port’s working waterfront is an essential key to the neighborhood’s evolution and attitude, and to its success as a major food destination. Anyone who soaks up that information along the tour will leave not just with a full belly, but with an appreciation of place and culture." - Alexandra Hall

Google
Great historical walking tour around the old town. Tour guide Ross shared a lot of history, took us to a couple spots only insiders can access, and was generous with recommendations for seeing and eating through town. Would recommend starting your visit with this tour.

Google
Awesome tour! Lots of history. Good food portion sizes. Timothy is a great storyteller and a charismatic guide. I appreciate that he is a Maine native, too, as he had lots of history, knowledge, and first-hand experience with the area.

What is a better way to spend the afternoon than eating, drinking, and consuming history all around Boothbay?! Judi our guide couldn't have been better. Explained everything in great detail and joked around with my parents, husband and I along the way. She also offered to take our photos at certain stops which was greatly appreciated.

Sara Decker

Google
My son and I recently took a foodie tour with Randy and it was wonderful! We enjoyed the stories he shared as well as learning more about the history of the town. I loved doing the tour early in our visit so we could visit some of our favorite stops the rest of the trip. Randy was very helpful in making changes along the way to accommodate my son. For example, he called to change our order so that my son could try the squash cake instead of the crab cake. Little things like this really helped make our experience very memorable. I highly recommend Randy and this experience!

Google
I loved this experience. I have done food tours all over the country and this for sure lands in the top 5 for me. I joined the Seafood Lovers Tour, which I think is the best since we are in Maine! We stopped at five locations with extra stops along the way. We tried classics like a full size lobster roll and clam chowder. We also got some beer and ice cream to name a few. There isn’t that much walking, which I appreciate because some tours, half of it is just walking! Highly suggest. My guide, AJ was phenomenal and you can tell she loves what she does and truely loves Portland. I’m so thankful I got to join!

Google
I only had a half day to spend in Portland and this was the perfect tour to do. Our guide was extremely informative about Portland’s history and the local food. He was wonderful! The food we ate on the tour was amazing. I have had lots of lobster rolls but this was the best one so far. This is definitely a must do if you are coming into Portland. They also have other food tours in different towns, I will definitely be going to the one in Bar Harbor!! Thank you for a wonderful 5* food tour.

Google
If I could give more stars, I would. We took the Seafood Lover's food tour with AJ as our guide and I can't say enough good things about it. As a guide, AJ was hilarious and was such a wealth of information. I love a food tour that incorporates some historical information too and this one did just that. We learned so much about Portland's rich maritime history (in addition to the food history)! The food stops were perfectly spaced apart, we began with a crispy, fresh haddock taco from Andy's Old Port Pub, which was absolutely incredible. At this stop we also got to try a local beer and a sample of Moxie - the Maine soda with a very distinctive flavor. Then we ventured to Gilbert's Chowder House for chowder - I had the clam, my husband had the seafood, both were delicious. Next up we had a sample of the freshest oysters we ever could have asked for - shucked by AJ herself near the old Portland wharf and served with a squeeze of fresh lime juice (lime is my new fave oyster topping). She also gave us a couple of great extras - some rosemary focaccia from Standard Baking Co. and a sample of The Holy Donut's famous potato donuts. Our second last stop was for a lobster roll and fries at The Mash Tun, a somewhat divey bar with a fantastic beer selection. The lobster roll was just a little heavier on the mayo than I prefer, but it was on a wonderfully buttery roll and the lobster was perfectly cooked, so a little extra mayo wasn't a big deal. The fries it came with were well seasoned, crispy, and delicious! We also sampled another beer at this stop. We ended the tour with a stop at Beal's for ice cream, we could pick the flavor we wanted. Overall I would highly recommend this tour for any seafood lover and if you're lucky enough to get AJ as your guide - you will have a truly fantastic and memorable experience.

We did the Portland foodie tour with Tim and he was fabulous. We started at Andy's and had the best fish taco. We walked to the Chowder restaurant and had terrific soups. Tim gave us great history of Portland. We went to Rigby Yard and had a yummy lobster roll. Our last stop was at the chocolate store. I would give Tim a 10 plus.

Yelp
My fiancé and I came to Portland for a week long getaway. As it was our first tjme, we wanted to hit some of the more touristy attractions and booked the Architecture & Walking Tour through Maine Day Ventures and had a great experience! For first timers, this is a great way to get a lay of the popular parts of town along the waterway and through the city center. Our tour guide Tyler was incredibly engaging, knowledgeable and inclusive and made the experience fun! It was a warmer morning so Tyler was also conscious to find shade for the group whenever possible. I would highly recommend booking a tour with Tyler if you're interested in learning about the history of Portland and seeing varying architecture styles.

Yelp
Excellent experience and would absolutely recommend to anyone to enjoy! The small group size, boat quality -- and most of all the cheer & hospitality of the crew (Brenden & Moriah) we're top notch! The oysters were excellent and there were plenty to go around our group. The captain let my mom drive the boat and even though she didn't like oysters all that much, this was a great low pressure way to try them out!

Yelp
We spent three days in Portland and chose to do this wonderful food tour on the first day so we could get the lay of the land. It was the perfect way to learn about the food and history of the area. Our guide Timothy also gave numerous suggestions about places to eat and things to do during our visit. We had a great fish taco and a beer, then a choice of clam chowders, an entire lobster roll and chips, two pieces of custom chocolates, and a huge cookie! I highly recommend this informative and yummy tour.

Yelp
Maine Foodie Tour (Kennebunkport, ME) 1. Started with a smoothie at Fiafia (8 Spring St, Kennebunkport, ME), guided by Cynthia and her guide in training, Marlene. 2. Got some history on the bridge and learned about what separates Kennebunk and Kennebunkport, with insights provided by Cynthia and Marlene. 3. Lunch at Allison's with a generous lobster roll (Allison's Restaurant, 11 Dock Square, Kennebunkport, ME). 4. Stopped at KBC Shipyard Store for two local beer tastings and a cup of clam chowder (KBC Shipyard Store, 8 Western Ave., Kennebunk, ME). 5. Finished at Mornings in Paris (21 Western Ave., Kennebunk, ME) for coffee. Cynthia, along with her guide in training, Marlene, provided a comprehensive and enjoyable tour, combining local culinary delights with historical insights about the area.

Yelp
The food on our tour was great and it was fun to try the local beers. Our guide, Timothy, was very informative and clearly passionate about his city. The information he provided about the food, history, and residents of the city of Portland were interesting and realistic. He also gave us information for the rest of our stay in Maine and convinced us we need to return to Portland for a much longer visit next time.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I had a blast on the Maine History Tour in Portland with Tyler. Tyler has an incredible talent for bringing history to life. The way he used old photos and maps on the tour to draw comparisons between then and now was a really cool touch, highlighting his genuine passion for Portland's history. I was especially impressed by Tyler's friendliness and attention to safety. He consistently looked out for our group, ensuring we didn't create chaos in traffic or inconvenience pedestrians. Following the tour, my boyfriend and I wandered through the city, actively spotting architectural details that Tyler had pointed out -- things we likely would have overlooked otherwise. I'm giving a big thumbs up to Maine Day Ventures. Already eyeing their Foodie Tours for our next adventure. Thank you, Tyler!

Yelp
We had a wonderful food tour of Portland, Maine with Marcia Foote. The food was delicious and Marcia was the best! She was knowledgeable and shared a bunch of history with us. We really enjoyed her and would recommend this tour with Marcia to anyone wanting to try the local foods and learn of the area. This tour is also good for kids.

Izzy F.

Yelp
Phenomenal tour! We took the West End & Architecture tour with Ross, who was so fun and knowledgeable! He had great recommendations for Portland too, highly recommend!

Yelp
We didn't do a foodie tour per se but there were mentions of restaurants and a little background about some of them. It was a history tour largely and a lot of rich details about the passing of time from the founding of Portland to the present. Our tour guide Mike did a terrific job. He mentioned that his regular job was that of a teacher and it showed. It was cool to walk all around town learning the significance of a lot of the buildings and little 'did you know?' facts about them. So much was covered including the lobster trade, numerous fires and rebuilding around town, Portland's role in U.S. wars, relations with Canada, the efforts of abolitionists, oldest buildings and restaurants, famous poets and artists who lived there, approximate areas of where historical events happened, and much more. It was a great way to move about town with a guided tour and get context on everything around you. If you're a history buff and like to walk and the weather is decent then you can definitely enjoy this. If you check the website assume there is a difference between this tour and one offered where it focuses solely on food and restaurants. Choose the one that suits you, but I can definitely recommend the history tour.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I recently went on the Seafood Lover's Lunch in Portland with Maine Day Ventures with Kate as our tour guide. We had a nice time and the food was good, but there were several issues with this experience that would prevent me from providing a positive review. If you are considering booking a tour with this company, I encourage you to read my brief review and make an informed decision. 1. Tour Guide: Although Kate is a nice person and was clearly trying hard, her lack of experience and local knowledge was evident. We have gone on several food tours in cities around the country. Each tour guide had a unique local perspective and added an element beyond the food. While Kate was able to answer our questions to some extent, she was not able to go above and beyond and really give us a feel of Portland. Often times she would walk ahead of the group, look at her phone, and not engage with the group. I would recommend asking for a different tour guide if you decide to book with this company. 2. Food: To be fair, the food provided on the tour was good. Probably a solid 4/5 stars. However, when you compare this to the average food in Portland, it does not stand out. We went to several restaurants prior to the food tour and enjoyed the food at those establishments more (Sopo Seafood, Crispy Gai, Standard Baking Co.). Further, the portion sizes were quite small. After a good food tour, I am typically stuffed. My girlfriend, who is a very small eater, was able to eat everything and was still hungry at the end. When I booked the tour, we were promised to indulge in oysters, scallops, and other seafood specialities. However, we made no such stops to enjoy these delicacies. The only food we ate was one fish taco, a small seafood chowder, and a lobster roll, plus a few desserts. This may sound like a decent amount of food, but when you pay $150 plus tip, it no longer is. You could easily buy this food for less than $100. If the tour guide added value, this would be acceptable. However, this was not the case for us. Finally, the drinks were very small as well. You get 2 small portions of beer, each of which are about 4 oz. The total amount of beer is less than one bottle. Thus, the price for this tour is not justified in terms of the food/drinks provided, nor the service of the tour guide. If you come to Portland, skip this food tour. You can easily find food just as good, if not better food and pay half the price.

Chris S.

Yelp
Tyler was great. knowledgeable and personable. it felt like you were walking around with a friend. Portland has a deep history.

Nancy L.

Yelp
Tour was informative and entertaining. Our guide, Kate, was great, very knowledgeable and comfortable with the group. Choice of restaurant stops was superb, food was delicious everywhere! We would highly recommend this experience!!!

Yelp
Wow was this an experience! We did the 3 hour foodie tour with AJ who was unstoppable!!! My husband and I got a special treat and Ross, who is normally the history tour, came with us. It was like having two wonderful examples of history and food with us! AJ spoke to the places to eat and their history and Ross spoke about every building and even why the cobblestones where on the ground. The history of Portland Maine is fascinating and intriguing.... Even had a haunted experience! Very cool for sure. Love this and will be recommending it as well.

Paige S.

Yelp
Recently participated in the Old Port Culinary walking tour. In hindsight, it was such a great way to start our Maine adventure. Our guide, Timothy, really imparted a lot of great information that helped us to enjoy the rest of our vacation even more. Plus, the food was awesome, but the stories were better!

Yelp
The tour was really really really good. We stopped at Gilbert's Chowder House first. OMG the seafood chowder was ABSURDLY great. We then went to Andy's Old Port Pub and had a fresh haddock fish taco which was really good too. Haddock was boat fresh. Then to Gritty's for a lobster roll. It was good. Basic lobster roll. Nothing to rave about but good. Our tour guide was Andrew and he was awesome. Really enjoyed his commentary and he had a great attitude and personality. Definitely would recommend him as your tour guide. Great job Andrew.

Beth I.

Yelp
We had a FABULOUS historic tour of Portland with Marsha! It was horrible weather, but Marsha didn't flinch, and she proceeded to walk us and teach us for two full hours - SO much cool stuff in Portland, and we really feel we know the city now - can't wait to go back. FIVE stars for amazing tour guide, Marsha!!
google avatar

Liz E.

Yelp
Our tour guide Ross was absolutely amazing. He was very knowledgable and entertaining. We had a great time and learned much about Portland and it's rich history. I would definitely recommend taking this tour the first day you are in town.
google avatar

George L.

Yelp
My wife and I took a seafood "foodie" tour with Scot Patashnik from MAINE DAY VENURES. The tour and the tour guide were positively outstanding. I highly recommend this tour. It was well worth its price, and Scott gave us much more than we bargained for -- giving us insights on Portland's history as we walked from restaurant to restaurant.
google avatar

Caroline P.

Yelp
I did the seafood lunch tour by myself and had a great time! I had a few hours to myself in Portland before my friends came and wanted to learn and eat, so the tour I did was perfect. I really enjoyed our guide AJ and didn't feel weird being the only solo traveler in our group. I definitely feel it was worth the money paid and would consider another Maine foodie tour next time I'm in town!

Patrick M.

Yelp
Ross was an excellent guide. Knowledgeable, engaging, and provided a very effective overview of Portland's history, with many supporting details along the way. I don't often leave reviews but was compelled to here after a great experience - thanks, Ross!
google avatar

Rhonda P.

Yelp
We had a great tour guide named Timothy who was extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the history of Portland and its art scene. He brought us to dove stops where we sampled some of the delicious tastes of Portland. His dinner recommendation to dine at Evo was spot on and like Timothy, we also fell in love with the carrots. Excellent tour and highly recommended

Yelp
Had the BEST time on our food tour in Portland today. James was an excellent tour guide, weaving food & history together to make for a fun & informative few hours. We were fortunate to enjoy a crispy, buttery croissant at Belleville, delicious steamed dumplings & fresh spring rolls at Bahn Appetite and a tangy bbq pulled pork on a pablano biscuit at Telingua. We switched gears somewhat & hung out at Oxbow, a really amazing enormous open-air microbrewery that allows you to bring in your own food to pair with their microbrew or hard cider (we split a Anxo cider & paired it with duck fat fries from Duckfat Frites Shack). Our last, and favorite, stop was Root Wild, a kombuchery that had kombucha that was crisp, flavorful & boasted 1% ABV, so being over 21 is a must. This establishment also allows outside food, so we split a spicy Italian sub from AC Grocer. I would highly recommend this or any food tour through Maine Food Tours. Excellent from start to finish!

Kathy D.

Yelp
We took the walking tour of Kennebunkport with Beth Sandmire. It was amazing and Beth is so knowledgeable. She even directed me to the Library to purchase two volumes of Kennebunkport history.

Lynn B.

Yelp
This is probably my 7th or 8th foodie tour - from different companies and all over US - this was too much history and needed at least one if not two more food stops - skip the smoothies and macaroons and do more food - almost all foodie tours have 5 food tastings

Rachael O.

Yelp
We took the Old Port Seafood Tour and were blown away. Our guide Ray was fantastic, a wealth of knowledge. We ate the best chowder and lobster rolls we had on the East coast. We could not more highly recommend this tour.

Jeff S.

Yelp
My wife and I took the Savor Bar Harbor: Culinary Walking Tour and absolutely loved it. One piece of advice - do not eat before you take the tour because the amount of food (and quality of it) is incredible! Lora was our guide and we loved her genuine enthusiasm for the area as well as her knowledge of its history. In fact, in some ways she was the star of the show! A "must do" if you are in Bar Harbor for at least a few days.
google avatar

Sherri B.

Yelp
A tour for seafood lovers! Jason was the guide for the Old Port Culinary Walking Tour. There was an emphasis on seafood, which I just loved (since I love seafood). And Maine is one of the best places in the country to experience fresh seafood, as there is a real farm/sea to table movement in the state. Lobster rolls and seafood chowder are on the menu, as one may expect. The tour ended up being 4 hours long, which is pretty long for a food tour. Although it gave us time to digest and prepare for the next stop. I should mention, it was no solely seafood. He was trying out different breakfast items, beer was offered at 2 stops and we each got to choose our own chocolate truffle for dessert. Tons of Maine factoids were given, which is cool since most of us don't know much about this underrated state. And Jason had lots of stories from his Maine childhood to share. We even saw a piece of the Berlin Wall, which sits by the port. Portland is a real happening type place, and this tour is one way to tap into it and get a sense for the awesome foodie scene.

Don K.

Yelp
We did the Portland Old Port Food Tour with Scott on 7/17. The sequence of food and drinks was superb. There was fabulous food ( fish tacos, chowder, lobster rolls and chocolate) along with great beer ( with non- alcoholic options). Scott was engaging and very knowledgeable about the food scene, its history as well as Portland's history. Overall, great food with a great guide

Yelp
We had the best day EVER with our tour guide, Andrew! He knows everything about Portland and brought us to the best locations and we learned so much and had so much fun. I'm already planning my second trip!

Anne M.

Yelp
We enjoyed our food tour, however, we felt it was very overpriced for what you got. Kate was very friendly and nice, but we would have liked a little more informative tour.

Yelp
So is this tour worth $75? It's really nice to slide into a destination where they're expecting you, the food or drink is all ready and you can just sit, consume, imbibe, chat & enjoy. On an E.E.A.T.T. (East end eating & tasting tour) we sampled pesto buckwheat noodles, barbecued ribs, gin cocktails, freshly shucked oysters, local beer, mead and duck-fat french fries. Chuck our host was great, offered bits of Portland history and trivia about the establishments we visited. Some restaurant people were chatty and gave us many details, others less so. Some fellow foodies were chatty, some less so but nothing the operator can do about that lol. The bbq place used the opportunity to sell us additional drinks. They were yummy, I just didn't expect the up selling. Look, you're paying for convenience, the money you spend here is about what you would spend if you hit similar places in quick succession. But if your partner is a picky eater and/or doesn't drink, then it's tough to justify the price. I was irritated when booking the tour that a required $1 donation plus $4.25 fee per person pops up in check out. People, just tell me what it's gonna cost upfront and let's avoid surprises.

Yelp
I signed up for the tour, Walking Through 200+ Years of History with our tour guide, Ross. He was a true delight and incredibly knowledgeable of the area. I did not know much about Portland in general, so he gave our group a wonderful history lesson as well as a foodie lesson. He pointed out many fabulous restaurants we should try. I would take another tour with Maine Foodie Tours and highly recommend the walking tour I participated in.

Yelp
- amazing tour - lasted roughly three hours - Russ was great, and provided a lot of history - he gave great recommendations for dining and activities outside of the tour - there was a lot of talking in the beginning - I left perfectly satiated, and not overstuffed - we had chowder from gilbert's, lobster roll from gritty, fish taco from $3 dewey, and chocolate from Deans It was a complete meal including dessert

Teal C.

Yelp
the tour was nice as you get to take in the local eats while learning about the town. our guide Lora was exceptional and made the tour even better. I would highly recommend doing this when you visit the area

Yelp
The Old Port Culinary tour was the highlight of my trip to Portland, and not just because I'm a foodie. Timothy was an a awesome guide and really conveyed a love of Portland and all of Maine. We learned so much about the history and culture of the city--Timothy's storytelling was so entertaining! Loved all the food and drinks as well. We got to try Moxie, New England clam chowder and seafood chowder, a lobster roll and chips, several beers including a couple blueberry varieties, fish tacos, and chocolate truffles. I would definitely recommend this tour.

Yelp
I LOVED this tour! I had 14 family members go and we really enjoyed it. Loved the guide, very enthusiastic and fun. I would highly recommend this if your visiting Portland!

Yelp
This is very first foodie tour I ever had. Beth, our guide, is full of knowledge and I learned so much from her in 2 hours. The tour was full of fun and lots of delicious food and drinks. The walk is very light and suitable for any age group.

Yelp
I took a food tour with Chuck. I was a little skeptical of the high price point but I felt it was a good amount of food for the $$. Chuck was really nice and informative, providing many facts about history and the places we were at. Ideally the tour would be a bit cheaper given the free advertising for the places but it was mostly seafood so I get it. One blueberry muffin, tea One bowl of chowder One fish taco and a beverage of choice Small lobster roll and beer 2 pieces of chocolate

Yelp
I did this food tour with my wife last month while we were in Portland. We arrived to the designated area with plenty of time to spare and hung out until the tour started. Our guide was interesting and although my wife didn't mind her, I can't say that I was a fan. I am not sure what it was exactly but it thankfully didn't affect the quality of the tour. We were told a bit about the town of Portland and walked up and down quite a few of the streets. Our first stop was at a local Maine store where we were served Moxie and holy doughnuts. I wasn't a huge fan of the Moxie and thought that the taste was medicinal. Then the potato doughnuts were a dense doughnut but had a really nice lemon flavor. After that stop we headed up to David's where we were taken to a back room that perfectly fit our tour. We were first served blackened shrimp with clam chowder and after we had all finished with that, then a mashed potato pizza. The shrimp was fantastic with great spices while the chowder was sweet but I liked the bacon. Meanwhile the mashed potatoes almost made the sauce of the pizza and were flavorful. After this stop we headed up to the public market and got a Maine crab hand roll from Mr. tuna. The hand roll was nice and the crab had a great sweet flavor to it. Finally our last stop was at Grittys where we were able to try two samples of their beers and also half a lobster roll and fries. They told us that the lobster roll here was only made with knuckles and claw meat which happens to be my favorite part of a lobster. The beer samples were decent enough I headed back for a full sampler later and the lobster roll tasted good, but I wanted more. The bottom line for me is that I would recommend this food tour to anyone who wants to get acquainted with Portland and its food. Even though I wasn't a big fan of our tour guide, she did give us plenty of information and the food was pretty good too.

Yelp
BLUF: Ask for Timothy to be your tour guide! He's super awesome Srsly a super useful, fun, and delightful tour! This was my first foodie tour in my LIFE! I'm so glad I had a super awesome experience with Maine Foodie Tours! Timothy was our tour guide and he was the bom dot com. Super knowledgeable, kind, and fun to be around! We visited so many different places and learned a lot of the Portland area. After the tour, I got a better appreciation for Portland, Maine and a full stomach! You NEED to do this tour if you are a big foodie and visiting the area. It's worth every dollar Thanks for the great time Timothy!

Yelp
This was my first trip to Portland so I wanted to learn a little more about the city. We took the Seafood Walking Tour with Timothy as our guide. I will say for the price of admission, this tour is worth every penny! From the knowledge Timothy had as a native from Maine to the amount of food you eat, it was a fantastic experience and one I highly recommend. Excellent!!

Yelp
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our foodie tour of Boothbay Harbor today. Abbie was our guide and she was fantastic! It felt like we were restaurant hoping with a good friend. The food at every stop was truly delicious. Highly recommend Maine Foodie Tours!

Yelp
Casco Bay Oyster Cruise was a ton of fun! The oysters were some of the best I have ever had, very friendly and knowledgeable guides, and the tour through the bay/around the islands was stunning. Highly recommend this tour!

Yelp
Our tour guide was perfect! Fun, very knowledgeable about the area and the food was very good. I've always enjoyed the Foodie tours as you get 2-1, historic tour plus learn the area and the best places to eat. One recommendation I would suggest is the walk be a little bit further then 1-2 blocks. Lots of history in those couple of blocks just wish it had been a longer walk. . Highly recommend doing one of the foodie tours this group has to offer.

Yelp
We braved the cool December air to take the history tour with our guide, Ross. The tour was fun and informative covering the history of Portland from its founding to present. We never realized how walkable Portland was before our tour. Ross was a wealth of information and was even able to arrange for us to see inside the Customs House! The time went by too quickly as we strolled the streets of the Old Port section and paused for highlights along the route and a sweet treat at the end. We would highly recommend the historic walking tour and will be looking into the food tour on our next trip.

Yelp
Oh my! What a wonderful time! We had James as our tour guide. He was pleasant, knowledgeable, and a joy to tour with. Funny story: I am a talker and James did a beautiful job moving us along in a friendly manner without telling me to "zip it", so that we were always on time. I won't go into too much detail on what we ate and where we went because I do not want to ruin any surprises. I enjoyed not knowing where we were going and being surprised with a small plate and/or drink at eat location. I will say this: EVERY place we went to (5-6 locations) was unbelievable. So much so, we returned to many of them on other days during our vacation. I would highly recommend the E.E.A.T.T tour or any of the Maine Foodie tours. Whether you are a visitor or a local - these tours are great fun and well worth it!

Yelp
We took a tour with Jason G and it was a great way to learn about the different spots in Portland! He was so informative and made the tour well worth the time spent together. We were a large group and Jason was great at keeping us all engaged. We will be back for sure!

Yelp
I took the EEATT Tour. Initially I was signed up for the Happy Hour tour, but due to the number of reservations they had to reschedule me for this one. It was quite tasty and some good drinks. I was hoping for more drinking, so slight let down. But that was more a product of the change. The tour guide, Chuck, was great. He was very engaging and knowledgeable about the food seen. I would have liked a little more info on the neighborhood or history of the city, but that may more be a product of the history of Portland may not be that interesting. My favorite was Terlingua. I passed along this recommendation to another one of my friends. I also took the Old Port City tour, with Chuck as well. The highlight of that tour was the lobster roll at Griddy's and the Whoopie Pie from 2 Fat Cats. Also, the wild Maine Blueberry jam was delicious. I never thought that would like blueberry jam, but this experience changed my mind. Of the 2 tours, I would recommend their flagship one - Old Port City Overall, a worthwhile experience.

Yelp
Although we really liked our tour guide, David-- This tour was a little disappointing. We enjoyed our time together and the experience but I definitely don't believe it was worth $75 a person + tax and fees + a $20 tip for our guide. We visited the following places: 1. A wine & spice shop-- We had a taste of Meade and they had some homemade mac and cheese that we seasoned ourselves with sampled spices. 2. Gritty's- This is a pub where we sampled 2- 3oz beers and half a lobster roll with fires 3. Blake Orchard Smoothie Shop- half a smoothie 4. HiFi Donuts & coffee- 3 donut holes and 2 Dixie cups of coffee 5. Stonewall Kitchen- Scones with blueberry jam 6. Deans Sweets- 2 truffles Again, nice experience but not worth the $180 that we spent.
