10 Best Small Towns in Maine, According to a Local

"If you're into multi-day hiking, Maine Huts & Trails' 80-mile network of groomed paths is ideal, and booking a 'hut' to sleep in between hikes is a great way to cover the woods and meet local adventurers." - Erinne Magee Erinne Magee Erinne Magee is former lifestyle writer with 10 years experience. We spent 1 night in the Flagstaff hut. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. The hut is so cool and it's very interesting how they are able to run the operation (toilets turn waste to fertilizer, solar panel, wood stoves) The trails were expertly maintained and its the perfect outdoor adventure for anyone looking to get out this winter.

We took advantage of Maine Huts and Trails' option for private rental of the whole hut. We booked the Flagstaff Hut and headed up with a group of friends for an early November weekend. Kevin, the caretaker, met us at the trail head to drive our belongings to the hut. He showed us around got us comfortable with the hut and its off-grid magic. After that, we were on our own. We enjoyed the amazing trails for running, mountain biking and hiking. The hut is in good condition and has everything you might need for cooking (less the food, we brought that). We enjoyed the many puzzles and games at the hut. It is nice to be without cell service once in a while. Kevin was there to pick us up on Sunday and we were sad to go. We hope to return soon either for another private rental or during the typical service with a caretaker.

Awesome network of trails and huts. Whether hiking, biking or skiing, there is a scenic trial to take. And the huts are remote, but still comfortable. We have used them as a family of two adults and two kids under 10. The staff has always been super friendly and the facilities clean and relaxing.

Hidden Gem in Western ME. Went here on a recommendation of a friend. Went in the end of February and rode the entire trail system on Fat bikes with. +40” base. Conditions changed daily, overall was an epic experience. Highly recommended for the adventurer!! The Huts, Staff, and food were amazing. Will definitely return.

Had an absolute blast skiing the trails and staying in the "huts" (beautiful lodges). The staff from check-in to check-out were knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommend.

Can i give them five stars? Stayed at Flagstaff, we asked for gluten free and they were able to provide with no problem and it was delicious. Love, the off grid, tech savvy hut and a hot shower . What more do you want?
