We stayed at the Flagstaff Lake Hut for one night, then hiked 11.3 miles to the Poplar Hut for one night. Overall, it was an excellent experience.
Pros: The "huts" are really more like Lodges. Very clean, excellent showers and bathrooms, and nice common areas. Board Games and playing cards available for rainy days. We were there during Full Service Summer season, so all meals were provided. The meals were amazing, and they were able to easily accommodate a Gluten Free option. Staff was so friendly, absolutely no complaints.
Not really Cons, but might be helpful to know/set expectations:
-Showers are timed at 6 minutes (one token). I don't know how anyone would possibly need longer than that to shower, but it's worth mentioning.
-The pillows in the bunkrooms are pretty awful. Flat and covered in a thick plastic. I suggest bringing your own camping pillow instead.
-The walls between bunkrooms are paper thin - you can basically hear everything going on in the adjacent rooms (but there are free ear plugs available in the Hut).
-Meals are served Family Style - you will be sitting at a table with other people who are staying at the Hut. Keep this in mind when choosing a seat, especially if you have developed a particular aversion to one of the other guests.
The Maine Hut Trail is the cross country skiing trail. It's very wide, and more like an old road than a hiking trail. It's not the most scenic type of trail - I suggest venturing off of it where possible. We especially liked the Hemlock Trail/Appalachian Trail option along Flagstaff Lake.
