I’ve Lived on the French Riviera for 18 Years—This Is the Most Charming Town You Should Visit

"Villefranche’s high-walled Citadelle Saint-Elme was built in the 16th century to deter invaders, but today it should be on every visitor's to-do list, because of the fragrant garden that grows inside its walls and its treasure trove of art. Although the museums are currently closed for renovation, the site itself serves as an open-air art gallery with a busy calendar of exhibitions throughout the year. The scene is particularly enchanting over three days in June, when it becomes the stage for La Crème Festival, an ultra-chic electro-pop fete." - Chrissie McClatchie Chrissie McClatchie Chrissie McClatchie writes about travel, wine, and yachting from her home on the Côte d’Azur, where she has lived for nearly two decades. Beautiful and historic location. The gardens here are lovely. Wonderful structure. Only wish there was more history of the place presented for reading. Free toilettes.

The old village of Villefranche-sur-Mer is marvelous! It is one of the most beautiful medieval villages I have ever visited. The streets, passages, stone stairs, yellow and orange-painted houses, the discrete scent of jasmine, and sceneries of the sea are simply mind-blowing.

Absolutely amazing. From this little sea location, I have one of the best memories. The flavours and smells, the incredible views and architecture. Everything is so beautiful. It's so good that when you get here, you feel like this is where you want to have a place of your own.
