I love this spot! I always look forward to coming here after getting my groceries. I get the #7 Curry Pork Katsu, and I think it’s an amazing price for the amount of food you get! It comes with soup, salad, curry with onions, and two large pork katsu cutlets. I like to take it home, and the packaging they use prevents any spilling. I also love how they separate everything so nothing gets soggy. On top of all that, the staff are a pleasure to talk to, and the service is fast—even when they’re busy.

Google
Katsu was delicious and crispy, even without sauce or curry. Rice cooked well and coleslaw went well with the katsu. You get a good amount of food for the price too!

Took a trip to the H-Mart to see what fast food shops they had. Decided on this place - the curry katsu chicken caught my eye 👀 ordering was easy and quick. I got my food relatively soon after ordering. This was some amazing chicken! Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, it practically melted in my mouth 😋 the curry was tasty as well as the small side salad - it had a good dressing on it. My friends got other variations of katsu, including a cheese-covered katsu chicken. They had some fried cheese balls that were kind of sweet! Overall, I liked it all.

Google
First time at this food stand inside the food court of H Mart. Ordered the chicken katsu and cold soba noodles combo. It was surprisingly good. The katsu was light and crispy and not greasy. Soba noodles are served in an ice cold broth and is refreshing on a hot summer day. Cold noodles may sound weird if you are used to hot broth but it is delicious .

Google
I’ve been here over a dozen times, at first it tasted good but over time the taste has been getting worse. The chicken has no flavor and udon is very salty. The cup is only half full of sauce which not enough for the meal and charge extra for sauce which is already supposed to come with the meal makes no sense. Charging high prices and food not tasting good is unfair.

Google
First time here and decided to try this establishment located inside the very busy Hmart food court. The first thing to notice is the HUGE portion of King Pork Katsu! You can't miss it. It's either meant for one very hungry eater or two to share. The Katsu was pounded thin, light and crispy with a very light flavor. Of note is the coleslaw that is sliced thin and perfectly matched. Coleslaw was delicious! I thought the typical macaroni salad was a bit heavy but there wasn't much of it. The Tonkatsu Ramen was also very lightly flavored. I did not especially enjoy this dish as the noodles did not seem like high quality noodles. Overall the food was okay but not memorable for the price.

Google
Very good Korean food for me. The cold buckwheat noodle was tasty and best ever. It was inside the H-Mart Market and was dine in but picked up at the counter - the order taker was kind and helpful. There are many other restaurants there. I will go there again and again

Google
First time I ate at this food court and I am SO GLAD I started off with Maisen Katsu!! Their chicken katsu was probably the best I have ever eaten, it was perfectly crispy and the right amount of juicy. It was SO GOOD, I will definitely come back again!

Yelp
Maisen Katsu is the best katsu in the Valley. the panko is perfectly layered for the crunchy exterior. the portion size is generous for the price. whether you get the chicken, pork or curry katsu, all of them are home runs. the only downside, (it is a minor one) is that it's in a food court and not a stand-alone establishment. the banchan is decent, although recently they stopped giving out the radish kimchi. aside from that, Maisen Katsu is the spot to get your katsu fix!

Yelp
Pork is thinner than my chopstick, $20 for this rice and curry sauce. Will not come again

Yelp
I've been on the hunt for a katsu cutlet that could rival my favorite spot in LA. The pork here is excellent--tender, juicy, and wrapped in a perfectly crisp breading that exceeded my expectations. However, the sauce was a bit too sweet for my palate. I was hoping for a more umami-rich curry with a kick of spice. If you have a sweet tooth or enjoy flavors similar to Cafe Rio, this might be right up your alley. Since flavor preference is highly subjective, I've given this place a 4/5 overall and only deducted a point for value--I didn't want to weigh the rating too heavily on personal taste. That said, my personal score for the two dishes I tried--the cheese-covered cutlet and the king cutlet--would be closer to a 3/5. As someone who prefers savory over sweet, I wouldn't reorder the cutlet here.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped by on a weekday and the food court was not busy at all! Score! We decided to try Maisen Katsu. Ordering was easy with the help from the employee- she gave us great recs! We ended up sharing the chicken katsu which came with soup and cabbage salad. This is probably the lightest batter I've had in town, yet still had a great ratio of chicken. It came with a curry dipping sauce-more on the sweet and savory side. The soup was also a hit! Very hardy. We will be back!

Yelp
Ramen to share for post-errands snack. The food court is not too busy on a Tuesday morning. Delicious #12 Tan Tan Ramen and an order of perfectly greasy delicious egg rolls Our go to at H Mart!

Yelp
Came here for dinner to try the katsu, heard good things about the pork katsu and thought I'd try it. For a food court self serve place, I felt the price was slightly higher at first. But when I got the meal felt portions were quite large. Also came with a coleslaw, soup ,.sauce, rice, pickled vegetables. The pork was really thin and perfect fried, had a good crunch to it, felt light and not very heavy to eat. The sauce it came with was also good on flavor, and we were able to get extra as well. Good organized system there, they call out the number when your order is ready. Parking might be hard on the weekends considering it's in hmart. Fairly decent amount of seating present in the food court as well.

Yelp
I wanted to hang out with my coworker and he wanted to hangout at Hmart. His go to place for food is Maisen Katsu. This is my first time going to an Hmart and to this place in general. So I was excited to give this place a try and it was an amazing experience. His go to food was Curry Katsu and I chose the original Pork Katsu. When we ordered the food, the cashier was efficient and straight to the point. Good because we were hungry and wanted our food right away. The wait time was not that long at all and the food came right away. The portions for the Katsu were huge and it came with rice, miso soup, coleslaw, and sweet sauce. The food combinations were perfect, it was so crispy and savory and everything on the tray went perfectly well together. I genuinely couldn't find an issue from this place. There is one thing to keep in mind, since it's in a food court with several food stalls, the tables are pretty crowded and can be pretty messy. So before you order from here, try your best to secure a table before you order from here. Once you secure a table, you can expect good food with great portions in such a quick manner. I would totally recommend to those that go to Hmart and need a quick, amazing, and filling meal!

Yelp
Great service, ambiance is a food court in HMart. It's a pretty big bowl of ramen so I think the cost isn't too bad for the quantity, the quality is okay. I had hoped they would have a better egg than just a good'ol boiled egg.

Heather W.

Yelp
As just going through my bank account to organize it through the Dave Ramsey app. I saw that maisen katsu charged my card $68.97. I ordered curry chicken katsu, chicken katsu and a bottle of water. I didn't get a receipt and not even the number they are supposed to hand out. The girl who took my order took the receipts and crumpled them up and took them. She just kept repeating over and over I was six. So when 6 was called I go up and a different girl kept asking for my ticket to prove I was six. I truly think something fraudulent was done by the first girl. I have no idea why I was charged so much. She knew I was distracted with two babies. I won't be back and I'm filing a dispute.

Yelp
I recently dined at Maisen Katsu, and I must say, it was a delightful culinary adventure. I ordered the Curry Katsu with Chicken. The portion was generous, The flavors were worth every bite. The crispy breaded chicken was cooked to perfection, and the thinness of the cut allowed for an ideal balance. Each mouthful delivered a satisfying crunch, and I appreciated that the chicken didn't overwhelm the dish. The sauce! It was the unsung hero. Rich, savory, and it elevated the katsu to new heights. Overall Maisen Katsu knows how to do katsu justice. Whether you're a fan of hearty portions or prefer a delicate crunch, this place caters to all. I left with a contented belly and a mental note to return soon. The service was fast, it is located in the middle of the market so depending on the time you go it may be busy and a little difficult to find a seat if you plan to eat there.

Yelp
Just the comfort food I needed! I got the King Pork Katsu which comes with rice, some mac salad, something similar to cold slaw, radish and miso soup. The katsu was thin but delicious with the sauce. It was pretty pricey for thin meat ($16.99) but I was able to take home and ate it for 2 meals. The miso soup was slightly above room temperature so it was disappointing. The food court is popping! Pretty difficult to find a table so you'll need to keep an eye out.

Mark E.

Yelp
I ordered the pork tonkotsu and udon noodles. The pork was cooked perfectly and moist. Very crispy panko crust. It was very good. Drawback was the sauce. Great flavor but ice cold. The udon noodles were great! Very springy and firm. The broth was like an intense miso soup. Full of flavor! I'll be back!
google avatar

Yelp
One of a few specialized Katsu restaurants in the valley serving the most tender Pork katsu comparable with top katsu restaurants abroad! The pork just melts in your mouth and is served with a side of rice and cabbage salad. The cabbage could be more finely shredded but I can live with it. The katsu sauce is Korean style. If you prefer Japanese katsu sauce that's more tangy like me, you can bring your own or just quickly grab one from H Mart. They serve food only in take-out containers after 7pm (but you can still sit down and eat) and stop taking orders right at 7:30.

Yelp
Food was great and tasty if you are looking for some ramen in your life. The service was fast and meal was just as delicious as advertised. Spicy yet filling for this winter season. I would recommend it to any Ramen lovers. Worth the visit. The place has food court vibes but the food can bring you back to a Japanese cultural tasting experience.

Yelp
Solid spot. My friend and I were hanging out touring all our usual east valley joints and Hmart is one spot on the usual "tour." Usually we try to cross off a new EV spot that's on our "must try" list. This particular day, we were not in particular mood, had no specific cravings, nor could we even muster up the willpower to make a decision. So, since we were already there perusing the aisles of Hmart, it just made sense to dine at their food court. I opted for the katsu because I had a recent lackluster experience at another spot with their katsu dish. This place definitely helped with some redemption of good katsu. Nice & crispy but a tad bit too oily for me. In college, I made friends with many international students from Japan who cooked for me. They emphasized that truly authentic katsu and tempura must be light. Think of the breading/coating as just an accessory to the actual food inside. Anyways, a lil thick and oily but otherwise good in flavor.i got the katsu accompanied with cold soba noodles. The cold soba noodz ended up being the star of the meal (lol, perhaps the ongoing brutal summer heat influenced this opinion a bit ). Portion size was decent for the price of the meal. They were also fast and efficient despite how busy this food court gets on the weekend. Will come back for sure to try other menu offerings.
google avatar

Robert H.

Yelp
The Katsu was very well made. I ordered the thinner one what isn't necessarily more weight but flattened so you get more breading which is thin and crisp. It was served with white rice, a cabbage salad and macaroni salad. It reminded me of a plate lunch in Hawaii. It is located in the food court of the HMart so don't expect any fancy setting. It is a quick in and out. place. The only thing I did not care for was the tonkatsu sauce it came with. I am used to a more sesame seed forward sauce that perhaps was not as sweet and darker in nature.
google avatar

Yelp
Went to HMart in Mesa to do some shopping for Hot Pot night and Meisen is located in the food court. Ordered was the Pork Katsu and Tan Tan Ramen. The pork Katsu was delicious. Tender, crispy and served with a side of curry dipping sauce. Also served with a scoop of rice and a heap of shredded cabbage with the most amazing dressing. This dish totally satisfied a crave I didn't know I needed. The Tan Tan ramen was ok. The saving point was the noodles. The texture and flavor were good. Un fortunately the broth lacked depth and flavor. The chasu was ok, not much flavor there too. The ramen was topped with all the usuals bean sprouts, corn etc. Service nothing spectacular nor did I expect it to be. It's a food court. Many options there do check it out.

Yelp
I randomly (but semi-frequently) get cravings for curry katsu. I feel like for the past two years, I've had to give up on these cravings because I couldn't seem to find a good place with curry katsu. But I'm so happy to say THIS IS MY CURRY KATSU SPOT. I got the Curry Katsu with chicken and it was so dang good. Not sure how to describe the breading, but it's like shattered, light, crispy coating. The prices seem a little expensive, but the katsu is a generous portion and it comes with rice, coleslaw/salad, dipping broth, and a small scoop of pickled spicy radish and jalapeños. We also got the classic Chicken Katsu, which is great for those who just want a standard katsu. My husband said this instantly became his favorite katsu place. We'll be back for sure!

Yelp
Absolutely love coming to the H Mart food court!! There are so many amazing stalls to try, but this one is such a great Japanese restaurant!! I got the spicy miso ramen and it was to die for! Just absolutely love this place! My friend tried one of the katsu dishes and also really liked it. Definitely recommend the entire food court to everyone who loves Asian food.
google avatar

Stephanie L.

Yelp
General tip: H Mart is PACKED during the weekends (like circle the parking lot multiple times PACKED) so if at all possible, visit during the week. Same goes for the food court, of which Maisen Katsu is located in. I took the Pork King Katsu Curry and Chicken Katsu to go. It was about $35; pricier for food court food (and better quality than most) but the servings came with the katsu, 1 scoop of rice, side salad, and miso soup. The Katsu was light and airy. The curry had onions, carrots, and potatoes and went well with the katsu. The pork is thinner/flatter than the chicken, but I prefer it of the two. Convenient and tasty!
google avatar

Bethany R.

Yelp
Got the curry katsu pork and it was delicious! The cutlet was nicely fried and the batter was season well. The curry was flavorful and the miso soup was rich and hearty. The cashier was also very nice and my order came out pretty quickly. Overall a great experience and I would definitely stop in again!

Anissa S.

Yelp
Food was amazing!! Service was great and the ambiance was great too! It's a must visit at least to try everything there is so much to choose from.
google avatar

Tracy P.

Yelp
Located inside of the food hall in H Mart. Lots of food options to choose from, but the ramen caught our attention. Plus ramen is extra delicious when it is cold out. Seating is first come first serve. There is a large seating area for everyone to go to after they grabbed they food. When you finish your food, bring the bowl/plates with the tray back to the restaurant you got the food from. Tan Tan ramen was really good. The noodles were perfectly made. It was the texture and the thinness that I really liked from the noodles. It was a good portion of noodles in the bowl too. The only thing is that the broth was just not as flavorful as some Tonkotsu ramens I have had before. Great service! I would recommend their Ramen! The Katsu looked crispy so will have to give that a try next time.

Yelp
My son and family live in Mesa and H Mart is a must stop when we visit. This is located inside H Mart along with a handful of other Asian"ish" food stall type restaurants. All of them seem identical except for the menu items. Maiden Katsu is the Japanese stall with katsu and ramen noodles. My son ordered the tan tan ramen and I'm a sucker for almost any type of Japanese curry so I ordered the chicken curry katsu. Both came out in about 10 minutes, hot and plated well. Serving size was good, but I'm not going to say generous. My son said his ramen was good and especially liked the pork chashu. My plate was also good though my curry was a little on the sweet side. The cafeteria like sitting doesn't lend to a great Japanese meal but it is what it is. Your inside a grocery store. Last words...something different for every week of the year.
google avatar

Marian R.

Yelp
The Japanese curry accompanying the chicken katsu is worthy as a standalone! Delicious! Whenever we are in the area, we drop in! Portion sizes are generous and shareable!

Jazmine D.

Yelp
The katsu was super fresh, well cooked, crispy, and delicious! Such a great value for $20 for katsu and udon. Will be back again for sure
google avatar

Robert C.

Yelp
I had shrimp udon bowl. Loved it. Full serving. Great broth. I have been on the hunt for a tempura shrimp udon bowl that reminds me of a regular nyc location. Fresh ingredients. Good noodles. Delish!

Greg S.

Yelp
Always good chicken and pork katsu. Some of the best I've had outside Japan. Service is typically quick as well.
google avatar

Sandy C.

Yelp
Since I live in an area where there is no Asian food, I opted to come to the HMart Food Hall in Mesa. I stopped at the first place that caught my eye. I ordered the Chicken Katsu. It came with a scoop of rice, a cabbage salad and a small cup of miso soup. The soup was quite tasty & warm. The Katsu was tender and crispy. In my opinion, the only down fall was the katsu sauce was lukewarm and wasn't all that tasty. Since I enjoy spicy food, this was a little bland for my taste. I would've liked some Sriracha (hard to find) or some sort of hot sauce. Overall, it satisfied my quest for something Asian.
google avatar

Robert B.

Yelp
I have eaten here a couple of times. This place is part of the food court inside H mart, which is itself an amazing place. The food here is solid, but having been pretty much all over Asia, I cant say its anything special. I thought the broth was a little bland & though a nice presentation, its just ok. If youre in the neighborhood, you'll have a lot of choices in the food court.

Deanna B.

Yelp
Took my picky 9 year old and got the chicken katsu with the udon soup (miso broth if you avoid pork like me), it comes as a combo package. It was really good. The picky eater loved the crispy exterior of the chicken, it comes with rice. The soup was really good too! The boy behind the counter was polite and helpful... I don't know what would make it "great" ... but, this was really good. Bonus, you get to walk around H Mart after :)
google avatar

Amie P.

Yelp
Very yummy food I love their chicken katsu and udon!! My favorite spot in H Mart food court :)
google avatar

Matthew C.

Yelp
Very good Korean food for me. The cold buckwheat noodle was tasty and best ever in Arizona. It was inside the H-Mart Market and was dine in but picked up at the counter - the order taker was kind and helpful. There are many other restaurants there. I will go there again and again
google avatar

Byron M.

Yelp
Delicious Katsu!! Located in the H Mart food hall, this spot is a must try if you love Japanese cuisine. Quick and helpful service. We tried the pork Katsu combo w/ Udon on the side & a chicken Katsu plate which were amazing! 10/10 will come back!
google avatar

Andrew L.

Yelp
Great Ramen inside the Hmart Food Center! I recently had the opportunity to try the Tan Tan ramen noodle dish at Maisen Katsu and was thoroughly impressed. The ramen noodles were cooked to perfection and had a great bounce to them. The broth was also very good, although I personally thought that the spicy oils overpowered the creamy tonkotsu pork flavoring, so it would have been better if it was spicier with less oil. The delivery of the dish was very quick, and it was very convenient that they are located inside Hmart. Overall, I would definitely come back to try other dishes and would recommend others come to try their Tan Tan noodles dish. The combination of the perfectly cooked noodles and tasty broth makes for a delicious and satisfying meal on a cold winter day.
google avatar

Kenneth W.

Yelp
Awesome katsu! great portions, and the katsu was fried really well. Would def come back, and it's inside the H Mart too!
google avatar

Daniel ..

Yelp
Cheese katsu is fire They're pretty quick with preparing the food. Great place to stop before shopping
google avatar

Daniel L.

Yelp
Great serving portions of Katsu and curry. Not too much rice. I've gotten the chicken katsu and the katsu with curry and both times the breading was super crispy! The only thing I'd change is to add a touch of (more) flavor to the breading and/or chicken. I tend to eat food on the less saltier side but the flavor of the katsu alone (not/without the curry dish) was bland.
google avatar

Greg W.

Yelp
Not a bad quick food stop. The tempura was crispy but all breading. Very little shrimp inside. The udon was tasty but the pork broth was pretty bland. Nice little garnish and touch though. In a pinch for something quick. Well there are about 6+ places in this food court inside H-Mart and we'll I always wanted to try this Katsu place. I probably will not order again unless I wanted deep fried bread and broth that has no depth in flavor.
google avatar

Ron S.

Yelp
The King Pork Katsu is my favorite dish at Meisen Katsu. It is so crispy even with the slightly sweet gravy. I reviewed on my second visit. I would like to see a bit more mac salad on the dish but no complaints. They also have excellent ramen and crispy gyoza.
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
Chicken curry katsu is delicious big portions , cabbage is really good comes with a small soup
google avatar

Terry W.

Yelp
This is Japanese-oriented. Mostly katsu and ramen. I was torn between the tonkatsu, and the curry. I got the Katsu Curry. It was good. I like a Japanese yellow curry. Not particularly spicy. It seems like if I were Japanese I would regard this as "comfort food". It wasn't anything fantastic, but it was a solid curry. Very tasty. The chicken was sliced thin, the breading was also thin (i.e. it wasn't all breading, like some other places), cooked well, served on a bed of rice with a generous amount of curry sauce. See my photo. I'm not sure why they felt the need to "katsu" it. A curry chicken would have been fine. But they didn't overdo the breading, so it was good. I liked it. Really, it should be 3.5 stars. It was more than "OK", even if it didn't knock my socks off, so I had to give it four stars.
google avatar

Amanda T.

Yelp
Excellent Japanese style curry.. the chicken katsu was so fresh and juicy and the curry was excellent. I wish that they had the option to add spice to the curry but they do have Saracha on the side if needed. Can be crazy to find a place if the food court is busy during lunch hours. It's hard to find a Japanese curry here in AZ and I am used to original coco ichyban back in CA but this is pretty darn close! Will be back for sure.
google avatar

Vanessa M.

Yelp
Went into H-Mart on a Sunday afternoon and had to stop by the food court. I was super hungry and katsu chicken sounded divineeee! Unfortunately it was super packed in general, but especially for Maisen Katsu! I still managed to get my food in about 10 minutes so that was pretty good considering the LONG line. I ordered the #5 Cheese Katsu to go and I loved the crispiness of the chicken! They gave me so much cheese and katsu sauce, it was great. I'm not sure if they have a special recipe for the katsu sauce but it was very creamy -- which I've never experienced before. Wow, it so delicious overall. The only downside is that I thought the meal came with curry sauce. Like I said, I came in HUNGRY, so my reading skills were out the window at that point HAHA The menu picture of the meal looked like it had curry sauce so that was my bad for not reading the menu entirely. I have to come back to try the curry sauce!
google avatar

Suma J.

Yelp
Very good! We went to Maisen Katsu for late lunch and managed to grab a table right next to the counter. The reviews and pictures convinced me to try the katsu here and it lived up to the hype :) We ordered the #2 chicken katsu and the #4 cheese chicken katsu because I could not resist getting the version smothered in katsu sauce and cheese. The katsu was crispy, crunchy and well fried! The serving size is very generous, so I ate little if any of the rice and miso soup but I appreciate the inclusion of some banchan. The cabbage slaw was so good! It paired nicely with the katsu. Between two people we easily finished off the #4 but I couldn't have finished it alone. Also, it was so satisfying to watch the cheese melt and stretch and kind of get messy while we ate . I will be back! The naengmyeon looks refreshing - I want to try it next with some shrimp tempura . The food court in HMart is a great place to get delicious food - just know that it's nearly always busy. Listen out for your number; there's an overhead announcement when orders are ready. $37 for two meals and a bottled drink.

Yelp
Location is in the H Mart food court, among several other restaurant vendors. Craving for a hot bowl of Ramen, this was my vendor of choice. Just a note: we came on a Tuesday at 11:30 a.m., not crowded at all, all restaurant workers wearing mask and had plenty of hand sanitizer on counters, Tables in the food court all spread out with sanitizing station in between tables. I ordered the Tan Tan Ramen (Spicy). Hit the spot, fresh, hot, tasty and spicy. I would definitely go back and try the other Ramen bowls. Atmosphere: typical food court but following all covid restaurant rules. Service: good. Food: good

Nikki H.

Yelp
So delicious, everytime! I just wish they had kimchi. Chicken is cooked perfect, soup is always delicious and rice is

Yelp
i LOVE coming to this food court! the amount of options are unlimited, but my favorite place to come to for a good, flavorful, filling meal is maisen katsu! my go-to order is the chicken katsu with a side of the gyoza. the chicken is always crispy, the small salad is a wonderful side, the rice is great, the miso soup is so flavorful, and the gyoza is awesome! and the amount you get for the price is AWESOME! i would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a good pork and or chicken katsu dish.

Yelp
Another restaurant in the "Food Hall" of H Mart. You cannot go wrong with any of the restaurants in the Food Hall. My wife got the tonkatsu (pork cutlet). It came with shredded cabbage (traditional), rice, and a radish pickle (tsukemono). The katsu was perfectly fried. The pork itself was also delicious. It came with tonkatsu sauce, but it was a light brown color instead of a darker, soy sauce color. No matter, it still tasted like tonkatsu sauce. I tried everything as my wife couldn't eat it all. Good portion, fair price. It was a delicious meal. They also have chicken katsu, as well as others. An intriguing cheese katsu and a shrimp katsu is coming. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Tucson-top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Would definitely recommend you trying it to get your own take on it. 2* = Not so good. Would not recommend at all. Waste of money. 1* = How are they still in business? Stay away at all costs!
