"Belgian Fries Despite the moniker, fries are 100% Belgian. At least that's what locals and expats alike believe. Having lived in Brussels for six years, I ate my fair share of frites. Mayonnaise is the sauce of choice for most, but me? Oh la la. I prefer the Sauce Andalouse ---Mayonnaise mixed with tomato purée and pimento. In a word---yum! The best way to eat them is from the numerous frite stands that dot the city scape of Brussels. Hot out of the oil, wrapped in a paper cone, there is nothing better."

My friend recommended this place when I asked him if I wanna try a great fries restaurant in Brussels. 1- The place was super crowded where you have to wait in queue to get your fries. 2- There is a small window to the left where you won't find it busy, but its cash only. 3- The service is super fast. 4- The prices are fair. 5- The fries at this place are amazing, fresh, and so tasty. This place was one of the best fries I have ever tried in my entire life.

Google
Lovely friterie in Brussels. Friendly service. Delicious fries. My son said the chicken croquette was divine. Right by Park Leopold where you can enjoy your fries looking at the beautiful landscape and ducks.

Google
Great fries. The large portion is really big! I’ll be back to try the rest and the other sauces. Highly recommended.

Google
We were told this was the most famous fries stall in Brussels so we had high expectations. We waited 30 mins for our fries and it was hot but a bit underwhelming. My friends’ hotdogs were also very average. It’s not worth the wait. :(

Google
Probably the most well-known spot for fries in Brussels. The line can be long, but it moves quickly, and the whole setup works well — grab your cone, choose a sauce (there are many), and head to one of the nearby bars that let you eat your fries with a beer. The fries are very good — golden, crispy, soft inside — though not my personal favorite in Belgium. Still, it’s a classic for a reason and worth a stop, especially if you haven’t been. Go for the Andalouse or Samuraï if you want something with a bit of a kick, or just stick with the mayo. The large portion is generous. Touristy, yes — but not in a bad way. It still delivers. PS. My face here is after trying out 6 frites vendors so the recommendations are more or less foolproof .

Google
Obviously, get fries when in Brussels and several recommendations led us to this large stand in a park. There are two places to order and the lines were large on a Thursday afternoon in July. The small portion is more than enough for one person and comes with very hot fries, salted. They have a variety of sauces, but I enjoyed the mayonnaise.

Google
The food is good as always, but I got rooked as I paid by cash using a 100 euro bill. I ordered 2 large fries, 2x4euro 3 sauces, 3x1 euro, and a cheese stick. 3 euro, which comes to 15 and thenchangeni, got was 80 euro, and when I asked for the bill, she said no receipt, so make sure you have the right change or pay by card.

You cannot really consider that you visited Brussels without tasting french fries at Maison Antoine. Located in the middle of Place Jourdan with many bars around, it provides you with a perfect combination for your evening. The majority of bars accept you with french fries, so you don't have to worry. The only disadvantage is a long queue during peak hours, which can be partly overcome if you pay at the cashier with cash only. Bon apetit!

Yelp
This is one of those "must tries" in the city for tourists and I was lucky enough to have it right outside my hotel window so I could see when the line was short (which wasn't often). I was originally confused at all the "fries allowed" signs but those mean you can take your fries from here and have a drink there with them. The fries were hot and fresh but honestly? If you end up missing this don't worry because it was just basically fresh fries. The salt didn't cling too well to them and the sauce is globbed on top which is kinda hard to eat. Definitely worth trying if the line is short but I wouldn't wait more than five minutes for these again, there are a lot of good options in this area.

Yelp
Yes, these are very delicious french fries. But they are not any better than the well-cooked steak fries you've presumably had in the United States a million times before. They don't taste "different," "Belgian," "unique" or anything else that would justify making a trip out to this location if not already there. They taste exactly like any other really well-cooked french fries you've had before. They're good, but not even remotely unique.
google avatar

Vinkin Ken T.

Yelp
Overrated maybe? Honestly, I've had better fries. They may not be "Belgium" but they tasted better. These fries were just ok. Some pieces were crispier than others. There is a ton of sauce options, a bit overwhelming for someone who is indecisive. I was able to try a sample of one and just chose curry ketchup since I was familiar with it. It's a take out only but right across are 3 restaurants that allow you to sit at their table either indoor or outdoor to enjoy their fries. Of coarse one cannot enjoy them without a drink so we enjoyed it with beer at the restaurant we sat in.

Yelp
Believe the hype. These are the best fries you will ever try! Don't hesitate - run there, now! Service was super quick and we loved all of the sauce options. They have a little patio with some outdoor seats available, and there are lots of restaurants around the area to grab a drink after. I am still dreaming about these fries now - 2 months after our trip. I wish we had a Maison Antoine closer to home for us!

Yelp
Happy Frites Friday everyone! Today, I had to try the famous Mason Antoine and it did NOT disappoint. When I ordered, the fries were literally taken straight out of the basket fryer. SO fresh and SO good. Tip- bring cash and go to the cash only line which is typically shorter than the cards line. A small is 3.30€. And ask for extra salt packets ! Voilà! Bon appétit .
google avatar

Debbie G.

Yelp
Maison Antoine's hype is definitely worth it and not an understatement. Their Crispy fries well seasoned with salt along with their wide array of exquisite sauces is the recipe for their success. My recommendation the tartare sauce which is mayo seasoned with herbs and some other secret ingredients Sizes are generous and if you're really ambitious you can go with a larger size for less than a euro more. Once you go maison Antoine, you can't go back. I am living proof of deception after trying another fries joint. Remember, calories don't count ;-)
google avatar

Olivia R.

Yelp
Not sure why these fries are so sought after... The service was nice. Our translator ordered for us (otherwise we couldn't have ordered what we needed). The street vibe was relaxed on a quiet afternoon. The fries have no taste. Salt is NEEDED! And the sauce was just ok (pitta picant).

Why-Tie Z.

Yelp
Why we went here: We went to Maison Antoine due to the hype online and the media. We were surprised that the ratings on yelp and Google were mediocre. But given the hype we really wanted to give this place a try. Is it worth going? it turned out that the ratings online can be trusted. If you live in Europe or anywhere around the world and have had decent french fries you will find nothing special in those french fries. We thought that the sauces for 0.80€ each might make the difference and went with any sauce the comments recommended: 1) Samurai Sauce - slightly spicy mayonnaise 2) Tartare- mayonnaise with herbs (Remoulade) 3) androiche - Mayo + ketchup 4) curry ketchup - like any other curry ketchup from the grocery store It's cash only. The cashier wasn't the friendliest and the sauces were not worth 0.80€. In fact you can get these sauces from your grocery store and some might taste even better. 3 stars because it was not bad minus 1 star for the service and price.

Yelp
Being Celiac I've often had to pass on fries as most are fried with gluten contaminated oil...Maison Antoine has a separate fryer to my delight and THE most delicious fries...a must try if you are in the area even if you have to walk 2 km or more to get to them!!!

Yelp
Sought this out on my fry adventure through Brussels. This Maison Antoine is one of many locations in town. It's a booth without any seating, and when we came it was completely under construction so only the booth was visible. This location is in the center of an intersection surrounded by bars, and all of them allow you to take your fries in to eat with a beer or coffee as well. There wasn't much of a line on a weekday midday, but the service was fairly slow and moved at a snails pace. Overall, the experience was very fast food like and impersonal. They have a huge vat of fries in the front where they'll scoop them out in front of you. There is also food in the front counter in the same fried vein, like a 7-11 situation. They have a wide variety of sauces as expected - most of the sauces come in pre-packaged sauce containers as a side that they give to you. You can get as many sauce sides as you want at extra cost. The fries are toasty and meaty, with a delicious crunch. They come piping hot and mix well with the cold sauces you get. They definitely constant refill the large vat of fries in the front however, so you get a few stale bits mixed in which was not ideal. Overall, I liked the convenience of maison antoine especially being able to get as many sauces as I wanted, and having the bars around this location to sit around.

Yelp
Got the fries with house tartar sauce and samurai sauce (spicy). Tried fries at 3 other places and this place is by far the best. Perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Yelp
I know this is the most popular place, I know that even locals line up like sheep to the slaughter even on a rainy Saturday night to get their frites here.... I know... However I found the frites to be slightly over done, the service less than friendly and in all it was frankly rather a let down. I will still favour Belgium Frites by Gare Central for the frite fix. But at least this place was better than Friteland. Some poor sod likes those awful things. So a moments silence for that poor chap.
google avatar

Yelp
I had to travel a bit on the train to get to this place but man it was well worth the trek. I ate fries at several places during my visit to Brussels and this is by far the best. I chose a sauce that taste a little like tarter sauce. I liked ok but I would be interested to sample some of the others in the future because with such a large variety, I am sure I would find one that I more than just like. Just a note, there are several eateries and bars in the vicinity. Many of them will let you bring your fries with you. Pair the fries with a beverage and an entree at a nearby establishment and it makes the trek not so bad.
google avatar

Brad W.

Yelp
The fries are not as good at Fritland. They were slightly crunchy, but not too tasty. The service wasn't great, but the kicker was the sauce... Prepare for Saucemageddon. When I ordered my fries with ketchup from Fritland, I got the ketchup in a side cup. The fries from Antoine were doused in ketchup. It was impossible to find a fry without a gallon of ketchup poured on it. Plus, the ketchup was disgusting. No thanks

Yelp
We trekked across town to get our hands on classic Belgian frites, and ended up at Maison Antoine. You'll first notice the line, which took about 20 minutes to get through; they move at a quick pace. When we visited in mid-August, their storefront was under construction, so they were working out of a food truck at the time. We ordered the small fry, which for us was large enough to share for two, as well as two sauces. We did extensive research before ordering, so we knew which sauces to get. We went with the most recommended: samurai and andalouse (sp?). Samurai was a mayonnaise base, spicy, with a tangy bite. Andalouse reminded me a lot of 1000 Island or Big Mac sauce (I know, I know), as it was also mayonnaise-based and ketchup-y. Definitely not bad, though I prefer the spice of Samurai, and would like to try a few others (there are dozens). As other Yelpers mention, Maison Antoine is conveniently located in the center of several bars and restaurants, many of which boast being frites-friendly. The frites themselves had a crunchy outside, and fluffy inside, though these were more dense than others I had tried in Brussels. I highly recommend this spot for the location and sauce selection, while there may be more 5-star locations out there that meet the "fluff-level" most people expect of traditional Belgian frites.

Yelp
The fries were good but I really don't see what the hype is all about. Went here on a cool day in November and after reading all the raving reviews online, I figured I was in for a treat! The fries were good....crunchy and thick. But it really wasn't worth going out of my way for. The worst part was the owner who took our order...maybe he doesn't like tourists...but he made us wait for 10 minutes while he gave the people behind us their fries...and then when I went up and asked where my order was, he pretended he had forgotten and then starting signing (loudly) I just called to say I love you (Stevie Wonder). I didn't know if that was supposed to impress me or make me laugh! Overall, if you are seriously craving fries in Brussels and don't mind rude service or taking the metro/bus to get here....go for it. Otherwise, spend your time and money on some excellent belgian waffles and beer instead!

Yelp
Items Selected: Small Frites with House Tartare Fricadelle Shrimp Croquette Chicken Croquette Beyond frustrated by Bouchery's refusal to seat me due to a "mistake," the name clearly in the online reservation system but not in the paper ledger despite a confirmation E-mail on my phone, it was with no other alternative offered that a trip was made to the most famous Friterie in all of Brussels, the queue at Maison Antoine only a dozen at each window, but still moving ever so slowly. Not particularly 'sold' on Belgian Frites being better than elsewhere after trips to Georgette and Tabora, one could not help but wonder if the historic kiosk at Place Jourdan in Etterbeek was doing something "special" to outpace the rest, and although the number of sauces and 'snacks' do indeed outnumber any other place in the city while the surrounding environment has grown to accommodate a "BYOF" economy the simple fact remains that these are merely fried potatoes made by teenagers in T-shirts. Waiting for perhaps thirty minutes, the rain having stopped for once with several patrons taking large orders to parties-in-waiting at nearby bars, the cash-only nature of Maison Antoine led to a somewhat truncated experience as there were limited Euros left in my pocket, yet making due with four items plus a sauce for just €8.90 the Fries, sampled first, were actually the least impressive item ordered - the texture of smaller pieces crunchy and preferable to larger slices while the thick white sauce was rich with herbs and actually pretty great. Now convinced that Belgian Frites are really just a delivery mechanism for Sauce, further bites from the 1948 hut included crispy fried Meat not quite as rich as that at Café Georgette, the two styles of Croquette actually much better with the Cheese version actually preferable to mild Shrimp flavors as the texture came across less runny, reminiscent an Italian Arancini with particularly creamy rice.

Yelp
In search of the best pomme frites, I found this place. In the afternoon, there were still 2 ridiculously long lines. We waited 45 minutes (on a windy 40-degree day) in line to place an order. Do not waste your time, money and stomach space on whatever other items they have on the menu. They're known for their frites. The other stuff suck! We tried the escargot...it was more like escarNO! Boiled snails that were more pale than somebody who has seen a ghost, chewy as rubber and just gross!!! Same thing goes with their sandwich. For example, the Filet American sandwich...saddest sandwich I've ever seen. I watched them schmear on a reddish-orange substance on a baguette. I thought it was pimiento spread. It was fish with ketchup and mayo all mixed together...bleeeccchhh! So, we took a bite of each disastrous non-pomme frites items and I could not recommend any of it so, stick with pommel frites and nothing else. Basically, the pomme frites were still outstanding enough to merit 4 stars despite the long lines and the other "food" we got. They use real potatoes and they are fried to perfection. The sauces were great. They have mayo and ketchup if you want to be on the safe side and not live a little. Their other sauces are pickles, bicky ketchup, bicky spicy, mason tartare, pili pili, chili, American, pepper, etc. Mason tartare (tartare sauce with mustard seeds), pili pili (spicy) and pepper (tastes like Cane's sauce) are my favorites. They're open until 1 or 2am. Located near Leopold Park. You can take your pomme frites and have a drink at the bars next to the shack. The one on the left of the shack is actually a partner of theirs so, it's absolutely ok to eat there.

Yelp
I've done quite a few Frites places in Brussels over my five visits in two years, so I knew this trip I had to find Maison Antoine. As you'll see from my pictures, there's always a huge line, especially (as it was with me) Sunday afternoon. As well, the, uh... Smell is distinctive, and not in a good way. I'm not sure if it was the garbage bins or something else, but as a local would say, it was dégueulasse. I don't mind waiting for good Frites - it's part of the charm - and the staff was pleasant and friendly. The people in front of me were told if they weren't eating their fries immediately they wouldn't give it to them in a cone - that cones are meant only for immediate consumption. They package it differently (to keep it fresh and crispy) if you're talking it away. Now, the folks in front of me found this hilarious and made fun of the staff... I, on the other hand, saw this as exceptional service. One more star then to cover the smell issue. The fries were good. Not great. They were very small, and almost overcooked because of it, but not quite. I normally love Andalouse sauce... A tangy, sweet and slightly spicy sauce that complements grease well. In this case though there was way too much acid and it left my stomach churning. I'll likely return to the Place Flagey to see if that friterie still stands up to my two-year long memory. Maison Antoine? Go for the vibe, this quarter is pretty cool, you can take your fries into the pubs for a drink... But I'd probably omit the fries next time.
google avatar

Scott S.

Yelp
You know your frites are the shit when people line up in the rain to pay 3,3 EUR for your frites. You know your frites are world-class, however, when the local economy adjusts its serving policy to allow your frites to be consumed on their premises, which is the case with Maison Antoine and Place Jourdan. I decided to garnish my order of frites cornet with Maison Antoine's "Samourai" sauce and then immediately realized why Maison Antoine's frites game is so strong; there's probably a million different things inside that cone which is bad for you but you'll still find yourself digging in frite after frite because that's how good their chicken-fried potato sticks are. Crispy, crunchy, warm, and oh-so-full of lard until the very last bite. It's a wonder Belgians keep the kind of shape they do here.
google avatar

Annie N.

Yelp
Only came here for the fries. Popular, so expect a wait. Worth the wait? Probably not. However, I would give the fries a 4. Because there's a constant stream of people, the fries are made fresh and come out steaming hot. Overall, the fries are nicely salted, crispy with pretty decent fluffy filling. However, the fluffiness factor on the inside isn't as amazing as this other place I tried. What's nice is that you can take your fries and eat them at one of the cafes surrounding this vendor, but of course, you'll have to pay for a drink. You can locate these cafes by a sign that features the iconic fries in a cone picture.

Yelp
Well, the virus has subsided, for now, and Fries Day is back. The wife and I gave Maison Antoine a shot tonight, as it's pretty close to where we live. They're wasn't much of a line, but I suspect that with a proper influx of tourists, this place would be swamped in the summer. We ordered two petit frites. I got my go to Andalouse sauce, and the wife tried the pita sauce. Now, for the record, the fries... great. How Belgian fries should be. Crispy, but not overcooked or oversalted. The sauces were spot on and of quality. That wasn't the issue. However, in this post-Corona world, again at least for now, it really seemed like Maison Antoine wasn't really doing much to promote heathy practices. For example, the little fry forks were just in a tub on the counter for you to reach in and grab. That means anyone and everyone could have touched any of those forks. Second, c'mon, only cash? I don't understand the logic. And third, the woman at the counter who prepared our fries seemed to be talking right into and over them, without wearing a mask. I don't feel like she should have been wearing a mask, but still, I think a little more attention could have been paid to where the fries are set after being put into the cone. So again, spectacular fries. Maybe some of the best in Brussels, but it was the forks, only cash policy, and mouth to cone proximity that makes Maison Antoine a 4 outta 5.
google avatar

S Y.

Yelp
The sauces were ok, but yes the fries are good. I think it could've been a bit more crispy and flavorful. The hype of this place doesn't justify trekking so far to get here. It wasn't something I would return for.
google avatar

Brian L.

Yelp
Over hyped. I found out about this place after a typical Google search. "Pommes Frites" in NYC trumps this place. The frites aren't BAD, they're just not all that bomb diggity. They're nice and crispy, but other than that I don't see them as that special. I went to a kebab place the previous day that had frites that tasted exactly the same. I didn't wait long as I got there at opening time. But a queue quickly formed and it was instantly hoppin (on a gloomy overcast October day) Maaaaybe it's worth a visit, but it's never gonna be worth the wait like everyone else claims. I mean, the fries at Burger King are comparable to the frites here.
google avatar

Jamie L.

Yelp
Worth the wait!!!! Don't give up on the line. They are slow but you will be happy. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Perfection....
google avatar

Janni E.

Yelp
I ordered both brochette and fries and it was excellent. The meat was super tender and the fries were perfectly done. I cannot give the highest score as you have to wait in line more than 30 minutes sometimes, and the sauces are not that great.
google avatar

Lucie L.

Yelp
Best. Chips. Place. In. Brussels. Chips are golden, non greasy, and cheap. I'm ashamed to admit I go there every week. I'm in love with their homemade tartare sauce.
google avatar

Isabella L.

Yelp
On my most recent trip to Brussels, I had done my research and knew that I absolutely had to come here for the fries. It's a random store in the middle of a plaza full of other restaurants with a pretty extensive menu for sauces and other deep-fried foods. I ordered a small cornet of fries and me and my friends tried the American, Brazilian, Curry Ketchup, and Spicy Chinese sauces. My favorite was hands down the curry ketchup and the spicy chinese which was essentially sweet chili sauce. To be honest, I wasn't blown away by the fries here as I was expecting to be. I went to a little fry stand in Bruge, Belgium that had better fries than this and was more unique.
google avatar

Sheila S.

Yelp
These are the best fries we had in Brussels, way better than any we tried by Grand Place. I really liked how all the surrounding cafes in the square allow you to bring your fries to enjoy at their tables while ordering a beer or other drink. The fries were perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft inside, and served in a hand-wrapped newspaper cone. An order of fries was 2,20 euros, plus 0,60 euros for a sauce of choice. I liked the pepper sauce which was mayo-based. Come here for a snack and enjoy a beer at one of the bars with free wifi, such as First which is right on the corner.
google avatar

Paul W.

Yelp
Decent frites in a nice location. They best part of this whole situation is that you can buy your frites and take them to any of the bars in the area. The frites themselves are good (but not incredible). The service is incredibly slow, thus the sometimes long line. I swear if they got a few decent employees they could probably double their business.
google avatar

Ester D.

Yelp
For Brussels' outsiders this place looks like any other place for fries. Don't be misled: the food is how it should be. Fat and good. When I arrived in Brussels, working in the Schuman area, we came here every Thursday night before going for a drink. Ordering fries with mayonnaise and eating them on the surrounded terrace while drinking a beer. In the weekends I was a regular client as well, bringing my visits for some afternoon snacking. Nothing fancy, maar de frietjes zijn gewoon lekker.

Katie R.

Yelp
Long wait, but worth it. I don't like fries, but when in Belgium...! I ordered the Maison Tartare on the side since I don't like mayo. Honestly most fries taste the same to me so I'm not a pro, but I did like the thick cut and fresh crunch of the potatoes. Felt crisp and fresh. Definitely worth the visit!
google avatar

Vic T.

Yelp
WORTH THE WAIT!! Great cheap, fatty meal! We waited in the rain for about 20 minutes for these frites and it was awesome! Twice cooked, crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside! The best! Get the larger size, only 20cents more and very generous servings! Massive selection of sauces as well! We got the curry ketchup (great twist to ketchup), mega (like bigmac sauce and tartare sauce had sex!) and speciale(mayo, ketchup & onion). All were excellent! Workers were very nice as well. Def recommended!

Yelp
Pro tip: buy fries, realize how GIANT the small size is, eat ALL the fries. Best fries I've ever eaten. They were piping hot when I got them and the double fried method leaves a super crispy exterior and a soft and fluffy interior. The price is also unreal for the amount of food you're getting, the cone seems to be never ending (the best). The menu of sauces is also very extensive, but I would recommend the classic, the Andalouse sauce. My friend also got the Samurai sauce which claims to be spicier. However, I'm pretty wimpy about spice and I really enjoyed it. The sauces are creamy, a bit tart and very flavorful, a perfect match for the warm fries. Our fries made a perfect on-the-go dinner for a chilly evening in Brussels. Also, don't be intimidated by the line. First of all, it's way worth it, and second of all, it moves relatively quickly.

Yelp
Yes, it hit the spot! Fresh Frites, nough said. Highlights: Frites made fresh, Ample quantity, Perfectly fried so crispy outside and moist inside, Reasonably priced, Several dipping options and Friendly customer service fluent in English. Can improve: They should focus on frites and simplify the menu, Have 3 windows during rush hours to move the line quicker, Have option to cut the line for sauces and Maybe consider taking online orders. Benchmark: We tried few spots for frites and they were the favorite. Their location is away from the city center but were right outside our hotel so was great if you stay in Sofitel. Ate their twice in 3 days in Jan 2016 and will return if visiting the area.

Yelp
The hype surrounding the supposedly "best fries in Brussels" was huge when I arrived at Maison Antoine. Luckily, it didn't disappoint: perfectly crisp fries (double-fried, I think), in portions big enough to turn them into a main course , and a wide variety of sauces to go with (andalouse will always be my favorite). Nearby bars allow you to take them with you while you drink a beer.

Yelp
When I studied abroad in Brussels I lived right down the street from Maison Antoine. This is easily the most famous, and the hands-down best, frites stand in Brussels, and going here is both a food delight and a stop at kind of a cultural landmark. My roommates and I used absolutely any excuse--it's dinnertime, it's Wednesday, it's been two days since we ate them--to get these frites. I don't think I ever walked right up to the window without a wait, but that only gives you more time to choose your sauce. The frites here are perfection--crispy on the outside (due to double-frying) and soft on the inside. They come in two sizes, petite and grande, and are served in a paper cone with the sauce smothered on top. The samurai sauce, a creamy and spicy mayonnaise-based sauce, is the best for dipping, and the sauce Andalouse is a close second. If you're not a big fan of sauce ask for it on the side. The price is next-to-nothing (2€ or so) and it's enough for an entire meal. Local tip: The restaurants surrounding Maison Antoine on Place Jourdan are frites-friendly, and if you purchase a beer they don't mind if you grab a seat at an outdoor table to eat your frites. Another good idea is to walk out of the place and across the street to eat your frites at Parc Léopold, a cute park with a lake, benches, and lots of people-watching. You can even see the European Parliament building in the distance! Bon appetit!

Yelp
This place is renowned for their fries, my Belgian co-workers recommended it for that and other Belgian staples. Well, my group did enjoy the fries but they were not earth shatteringly different from any other Belgian fry we had. Perhaps they were a little thicker than the US fries I am used to. The other items, meat balls and kebobs were not so great, the meat was tough and overcooked to my taste. Over the next three days everyone who had dined here with me got food poisoning. I am not sure if it was this place or another but I am wary to recommend it to anyone after our experience.

Yelp
This was one of the few places that showed up on Yelp for Brussels so we knew it had to be good. We walked by it on a rainy day and saw a large group of people standing in line...in the rain. For what? We would later find out Belgian frites! Wow, if a line could form in the rain for fries, we would make sure we would stop by after an evening of drinking ;) Before we walked back to our hotel, we stopped by and got a large order of fries (big enough for two) along with two dipping sauces. I don't know their exact names but one was mayo based and the other was curry based. They were delicious! We got some other appetizers as well. After ordering we learned all of the other menu items are typical fried bar fare (possibly from the freezer) and not worth trying. By the way don't get anything other than the fries. You'll be deeply disappointed. My hubby ordered a "burger" and they just dropped it in the fryer. No bueno. Stick with the frites and you'll be good to go!

Yelp
Our tour guide said to look for the most ran down shabby looking fries stall because that is were you'll find the best fries, fried in the authentic beef fat. That is what this place is. You can smell the deliciousness from a few hundred feet away and was worth the waiting line. While visiting the European Parliament visit this place while you're in the neighborhood! We only tried the fries.

Yelp
Not worth the long wait! Spent a weekend in Brussels and our taxi driver told us about the best frites in brussels was in a little cabin right across the road from our hotel. How could we not join the queue of fellow hungry people to try the famous fries?! While waiting in the line for an age and googling terms trying to make sense of their menu board i settled on the beef skewer in a baguette with a cone of the frites. Definitely not impressed. The chips were not that crispy and were nothing special. The meat in the baguette was ok but not great. What is useful is some of the cafes and restaurants in the square along you to bring your food from maison antoine and eat it there while having a drink. I would recommend skipping maison antoine and the long queues and instead sit down and relax in one of the nearby restaurants or cafes and have some of their delicious food. Its not that i don love this type of food. If you want to sample the frites i recommend going to Belgian Frit'n toast which serve delicious frites and yummy baguettes! Much nicer place to visit. Get a seat upstairs with a view over the square.

Yelp
To be honest, Maison Antoine just does not live up to the hype that it gets. While on a day off during the summer, I visited the nearby Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences and thought, "Hey, Place Jourdan is right around here, why don't I finally try those fries everyone raves about?" So I did. It was already later (13.00) and during the week, so I thought we would miss any lunch rush. Man, were we wrong! Despite it being later, we still waited a whole hour to be served! We were already quite hungry but from looking at the line, we thought it would move fast (I've seen worse lines on a Friday evening that went on forever). Wrong again. The staff would take multiple smoke breaks (I hoped they washed their hands?) while leaving 1 or 2 people to deal with customers. I'm all about taking breaks but when you've got a line, take care of your customers first. Finally, we got our fries (with andalouse sauce) but I felt I couldn't even enjoy them because I scarfed them down so fast out of hunger! I also didn't feel the fries tasted any different from what I've had before, which was probably most disappointing after waiting that hour in line, if I was going to wait that long those fries better have been heaven, which they weren't. The only cool thing is that nearby bars let you eat your fries at their place, to wash it down with a beer--smart idea! Needless to say, I won't be returning.

Yelp
Food: 4.5S Service: 5S Ambiance: 4S This place apparently has been around a long time, about 60 years, when I visited Brussels. When in Belgium, I had to try two things on my list (1) beer and (2) fritz. I researched and chose this place. The fries were pretty good! The fritz came out perfectly cooked and crispy. All the sauces are amazing. Really it's always about the sauces isn't it? My personally favorite is the Tartar sauce. To each his own and I own this sauce. Place your order and enjoy.

Yelp
It's been several months but yay, Belgium is on Yelp so now I can review what I remember here! My lunch on my one full day in Brussels is clearly the most important: a cone of frites with a cute little fork. I convinced several other people to get some and they were totally raving about it, even the professor who had pretty much insulted me for wanting to have them so badly. I had my frites with some kind of curry mustard I think, there were so many things to choose from. They were good even without the sauce perfectly crispy and oh so good. I have been missing them ever since. The line can get really long, but the whole ordering process is really quick after you've been able to see the menu so long. The fries are cheap and delicious, and in my dreams.

Yelp
This is the tale of 2 different experiences you can have here. First, the wait on most times is anywhere from 10 minutes to 60 minutes. So you base your measurement of quality depending on how long you have to wait. This is where this place does amazing and awful at the same time. Many times you wait 30 minutes and get the crispiest best tasting fries around. However, recently it seems there are just as many times where you wait 30-45 minutes and the fries are soggy and not good. I go to this place about 5X a week and it seems the # of bad experiences is happening more often than when I first went. I hope they fix that as for 3.30 euro and for 30-45 minutes of your life you would hope to walk away with amazing frites and not soggy ones that you can buy anywhere.

Yelp
Perhaps the best fries in Brussels. Worth a visit if you are in the area. The curry ketchup isn't great, but their sauce selection is second to none. Enjoy!

Yelp
We're these fries good? Yes. We're these fries worth an hour wait? No. I don't think the popularity of this place as one of the best places to get frites matches the time spent to get them. I had similar quality frites at multiple other places in Brussels.

Yelp
This place is a Brussels institution and worth a visit. But probably just the one. The lines are long and move slowly. The food is ok, I'm just not sure it's worth waiting 30+ minutes for.

Yelp
Well, after 7 hours on the train my friend said we have to go to Chez Antoine. Since he lives a few hundred metres it, I'll be able to try it again. The Frites were definitely some of the best I have tasted. This review was written in 2009.

Yelp
The fries are perfection and definitely worth the wait/out-of-the-way location. I got the maison tartare sauce - yuuum. I ordered the large fries and ended up getting three sauces. Added bonus - the bars in the square allow you to bring in these fries.
