Yelp
11 rue d'Astor (no relation to the hotel name), a quiet street in the otherwise chaotic but very chic 8e arrondissement (district) of Paris, near the Faubourg Saint-Honoré, the affluent neighborhood between Champs-Élysées and Boulevard Haussmann, upscale retail shops, tree-lined boulevards, cafes, bistros, and patisseries, the renowned Printemps, Galeries Lafayette, haute couture fashion houses, art museums, Arc de Triomphe, Palais Garnier, Place de l'Opéra, Musée Jaquemart-André, and numerous monuments.
Maison Astor Paris is a Curio Collection Hotel by Hilton, a collection of boutique hotels, under the umbrella of one of the largest hotel chains in the world.
Over a century old, Maison Astor Paris was founded in 1907 as Hotel Royal Astor, by the aristocratic John Jacob Astor, heir of one of the wealthiest American families, considered one of the wealthiest men in the world with a fortune of $87 million, his pregnant wife wishing to give birth to their child in the US, they boarded the doomed RMS Titanic on its maiden voyage in Cherbourg, France, whilst his wife survived, sadly he perished, due to his fame his character has been played in many movies, recently by german born American actor Hans-Jörg Gudegast, aka: Eric Braeden in the 1997 movie Titanic.
The charming Maison Astor Paris Hotel reopened its doors in 2017, everyone of its 131 "apartments" have been renovated, it retains its Parisian architecture highlighted in the Haussmann Plan, guests are warmly welcomed in the sophisticated hotel lobby by a very capable porter, efficient check-in desk clerk, and superb concierge staff.
The building is stunningly beautiful, the lobby is luxurious, restaurant posh, and a warm but small bar, two small elevators, meeting rooms, and a very small "fitness center".
My beautiful bi-level 1 bedroom duplex rooftop suite #709, was home for 3 nights, room size was 430sqf (40sqm) large enough for 4 people, and a private terrace considered huge even by US standards, had a breathtaking 270 degree view of Paris cityscape from the Sacré Coeur to the Eiffel Tower and beyond, the well appointed room was upholstered in luxurious Hèrmes furnishing fabrics and wall coverings, a king-size bed and 2 single sofa-beds, foyer, suite had two 50' LED TVs one in the bedroom, one in the living room, terrace has a large table and 6 chairs, a wet bar with soft drinks minibar (€3.50 per item, though on Hilton's own booking portal, it says complimentary), and nespresso machine, work desk, safety deposit box should fit a 17' laptop with ease, free and very fast WiFi, bathroom with single sink, separate tub and shower, a wc with japanese style toilet and tiny sink, SOTHYS toiletries, robes and slippers
Ultimately any hotel has minor issues or weaknesses, and Maison Astor Paris is no different, there is no spa or swimming pool, fitness center is tiny, the size of the elevators very small, I suggest you ask the staff to deliver your luggage to your room, though room service is available 24/7 menu is limited, the air conditioner didn't work properly (main complaint by other reviewers), though room was clean, and bathroom was impeccable, the bar area was drab and grimy, lastly insufficient power outlets, and the lack of universal power sockets is a big oversight for a hotel that caters to business travelers and also tourists guests.
Whilst Maison Astor Paris is not on my top Paris hotel list, it's a fine hotel and a great place to stay, centrally located, great restaurants nearby, decent breakfast, phenomenal staff, specially the concierge was outstanding, and an landmark worth visiting.
