Maison Bonaparte

This significant house, the childhood home of Napoleon Bonaparte, offers a glimpse into the lifestyle, furniture, and daily life of the family. However, the experience could be enhanced and made more educational. Unfortunately, there were no English text provided, and the audio guides were unavailable. As a result, we felt that we didn’t get as much as we had hoped. We would appreciate it if they could incorporate movies or videos that showcase the daily life of the family, their habits, and a brief history of the family tree. This would provide enthusiasts with much more to explore and learn. The ticket was 7 Euros per adult.

Nice little piece of great European history. Museum dedicated solely to Napoleon's early life, without emphasis on his military career. Well organised and not very crowded. Ten minutes waiting for entrance is to be expected and no liquids allowed inside.

Napoleon's birthplace. Interesting museum, although not much is the same as when he lived there. His history and that of his family is well outlined. You are given an audio tour device at the door and the narration is pretty good in English. In early October there was a small line up to get in, but it went quickly. Note that the museum is closed for about 45 minutes around lunchtime. Avoid bringing large backpacks if you can. Security check at the door.

If you’re fascinated by history, this is a must-see. It’s amazing to visit the actual house where Napoleon grew up, so much to take in and imagine from that era! But they could have made effort to make it a better experience.

So this was the childhood home of Napolis whom left at 9 years old to go to France military academy. He led a troubled youth on the island. So his dad shipped him off to military school with his brother. Inter sting note. This is not where he was as exiled to. Just where he started life. Family was poor. Rented rooms in the home. It was only many years later the family came into favor and money with the military escapades of Napoleon. Who interestingly sought to place his sisters and brothers in positions of power all throughout Europe. A very modest old building. Nothing really great to see but history as it occurred.

Fascinating glimpse into life in the 1700’s in Corsica and its history involving the British and Italian peoples who colonised the Island from time to time 😉 The audio guide is essential to get the most from your visit as the info panels are only in French. The queue was exceptionally well handled and ensured that the rooms in this house were never overcrowded as they are typical of houses of this period.

If you visit Ajaccio, you should definitely stop by this place — the house where Napoleon spent part of his life, now turned into a museum. The entrance fee is €7 for visitors over the age of 25.

When we were in Ajaccio, we did a history walking tour about Napoleon Bonaparte and Corsica. Maison Bonaparte was one of the stops we made during our trek of the capital. This historical building, where the Bonaparte family lived and is Napolean's birthplace, was turned into a museum that offers audio self-guided tours of house (takes less than an hour). You learn about the entire Bonaparte family, which gives you a peek into Napoleon's childhood before he left the mainland and went on his path of becoming a military commander and political leader.

Ajaccio, capital of Corse, is the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte and a visit to his home is a pilgrimage of sorts. in this parental home he lived until age 9(1779) when he was packed off to school in the mainland. in the 19th century it was a site almost of cult worship and today considered a hallowed place rich in memorabilia of the Emperor and his siblings, whom he planted in the thrones of Europe. his birthday is still celebrated each year on Aug 15 with fireworks & parades and people visit the maison natale to pay homage. did you know he established the Napoleonic(civil) code, which laid the administrative and judicial foundations for much of Europe, the Americas and Africa? une grande histoire.

Disappointed in this experience. Was eager to learn about the history of the Bonaparte family and to tour the house in which young Napoleon grew up in. I read on google reviews to make sure to request the English audio tour to assist in getting a comprehensive overview of the home and family history. When we asked for the audio tour we were told flatly they didn't offer that, even though the audio tour devices were right behind the attendant and the reviews said "the English electronic audio tour was very helpful". Instead we were handed a brochure, that was thankfully in English, that gave a general history of the Bonaparte family rather than translated each exhibit. As we walked around there were in fact audio tour prompts on each exhibit. Wish we could have really enjoyed the experience by learning more about the house and family but ended up mindlessly looking at artifacts. Avoid if they aren't offering audio tours in your language.
