"Unassuming and discreet, this hotel overlooking the canal is an intimate 30-room affair – and surprisingly quiet, considering its location in buzzy Navigli. Four years of sensitive restoration were needed to revamp the 19th-century casa di ringhiera, a typical Milanese house with a shared balcony. The result, finished in 2011, is all the more tasteful thanks to the vintage furnishings chosen by collector Raimondo Garau. The main part of the hotel wraps around an internal courtyard and each floor’s railings are covered in sweetly scented jasmine. Under a coffered ceiling on the ground floor, Ristorante Bugandè serves chef Davide Brovelli’s contemporary versions of Lombard classics, including the omnipresent cotoletta (veal cutlet) and creamy risotto."

"Milan’s canals may not be the equal of Venice’s, but that doesn’t make Maison Borella’s waterside setting any less special. This charming 18th-century building, with its interior courtyard and its hybrid historic-contemporary interior design, offers a welcome break from Milan’s urban pace, as well as its prevailing ultra-polished aesthetic. The rooms and suites are full of character, and are more spacious than you might ordinarily expect. Bugandè, the restaurant, offers indoor and outdoor seating, season permitting; meanwhile you’re just to the southwest of the city center, with easy access to all Milan’s best." - Tablet Hotels

We stayed 2 night here. Lovely boutique hotel in a great location. Staff were really friendly and the hotel and rooms really clean. |The rooms were a little on the small side but we were only staying for 2 night so perfectly fine. Rooms were clean and comfortable beds. We had rooms overlooking the courtyard, which were quiet at night ( some reviews say canal facing rooms were noisy at night) |The location was perfect, right in the canal, with plenty of bars and restaurants right on your doorstep. Really enjoyed staying in Navgali area… great friendly vibe and not too far from the centre

The location is divine with tons of shops and retail near it. It's also near metros, trams and buses you can get anywhere in Milan within 30 minutes by public transport. Staff is one of the nicest I've met whenever you lose their key they will sort it out for you. Breakfast was great but can't rate the dinners as we did not go there. Rooms were nice and cozy spacious bathrooms and comfy beds. Overall I would recommended this to any travellers or families stay for anywhere under a week. I recommend different variants of rooms for different groups.

The hotel is listed as a four-star property, but in reality, it would be more accurately rated as a three-star. Aside from a lounge and a restaurant, there were no other facilities available. There was also no coffee or tea provided in the rooms. The breakfast was very typical of Italy, primarily consisting of sweet pastries, croissants, and toast. There was a very limited selection of toppings, with little to no options for items like bacon. The coffee was weak and served from a thermos, and if you wanted a cappuccino, it came at an additional cost. As a traveler from the Nordics, this was a disappointing breakfast experience. We had two rooms, both of which were fairly worn and showed signs of ingrained dirt, especially on the doors and other surfaces. On the positive side, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel’s location is excellent – right along the canal in the lively Navigli district, surrounded by plenty of restaurants and bars. It’s also just a short 5-minute walk to the nearest metro station.

Nice hotel in the Naviglia area. Sort of on the outskirts of the centre of Milan. The area is very quiet in the morning and very busy in the evening.

Very attractive hotel, inside and out. On the grand canal of the Navigli district - which is a great place to stay in....in winter anyway. The hotel was nicely decorated throughout and the staff were most helpful. Our room, on the first floor, away from the canal was pleasant enough. The bed was comfortable and the room was generally ok....but. There was little in the way of storage/drawers for clothes etc and the wardrobe, such as it was, was a challenge. The room was overheated to start with but the temp could be lowered. Tea making facility in the room would have been nice. The biggest drawback for us was the noise in or around the hotel. We struggled to get a decent sleep on any of the 3 nights we stayed - and that was at back of the hotel not on the canal! The worst noise seems to come from within the hotel and from the lounge area and possibly from people going out of the lounge to smoke. It seems to be the way 'courtyard' hotels are with people not realising sound seems to be amplified within them. The noise from that lounge area on the Saturday night was very bad, making sleep nigh on impossible. Breakfast was good and tried to cater for most. Maybe more coffee choices and hotter water for tea or coffee would be nice. As mentioned in another review, sweet items easily outnumbered the savoury but the overall choice was good. For us, the noise was a great pity as it is a good looking hotel in a very interesting area of Milan.
